He first began to act in 1957, when he appeared in ''The Imperial Nightingale'' and would make his first film appearance six years later in ''Film/BillyLiar'', followed by other films such as ''The Family Way'', ''They Came from Beyond Space'', ''Twisted Nerve'', ''Catch Me a Spy'', ''Alfie Darling'' and ''George and Mildred''.

Parkinson was a regular face in TV comedy too, with small roles in ''Series/DadsArmy'', ''Series/ItAintHalfHotMum'', ''The Kenny Everett Television Show'', ''The Liver Birds'', ''Series/OnTheBuses'', ''Series/RisingDamp'', ''Shelley'', ''Series/TerryAndJune'', ''Series/WhateverHappenedToTheLikelyLads'' and ''Series/TheYoungOnes''.

In TheEighties, he provided narration for ''Button Moon'', and joined the cast of '''Allo 'Allo!'' in Series 7 to replace the recently deceased Derek Royle.
