After becoming blind due to suffering the effects of deprivation and labor after the Germans stormed the capital of Duke of Mantua, Carlo Gonzaga, he became a sculptor using clay. His patrons included UsefulNotes/GrandDukeOfTuscanyFerdinand and UsefulNotes/PopeUrbanVIII.

He had ten children.
