Edward Sinclair, born Edward Sinclair Perry, (3 February 1914 -- 29 August 1977), was a British actor best known for playing the Verger in ''Series/DadsArmy''.

He appeared in the films ''The Bells'', ''Tower of Terror'', and ''Saraband'' before moving into a career in radio. In The60s, he was noticed thanks to his radio work and began playing small parts on the TV, including guest shots in ''Series/DangerMan'', ''Beggar My Neighbour'', ''Hugh and I Spy'', and ''Series/ZCars''.

He played the Verger in one episode of ''Dad's Army'''s first series and returned for another episode in the second. From the third series onwards, Sinclair's [[AscendedExtra role was expanded]], when Creator/FrankWilliams joined the cast as his boss, TheVicar.

During his ''DA'' stint, Sinclair returned for TheMovie, ''Film/DadsArmy1971'', and appeared in other films such as ''Film/TheMagicChristian'' and ''No Sex Please - We're British''. When ''DA'' ended, Sinclair was offered work in panto.

He died shortly after of a heart attack at the age of 63.
