Colin Bean, (15 April 1926 -- 20 June 2009), was a British actor best known for playing Private Sponge in ''Series/DadsArmy''.
His first time acting came when he was a shepherd in a school play. Despite his parent's disapproval, he took up acting as his career, which was against his parents' wishes. His acting work briefly paused when he fought in UsefulNotes/WorldWarII, but he managed to graduate from drama school in 1952.
