* CreatorBacklash: A case where creator and fandom have similar opinions. In her interview in ''Magazine/DoctorWhoMagazine'' #595, she has complicated feelings about her original run on ''Who'' - she thinks she was awful, trying too hard, but acknowledges that Mel's a sweet character, who's earnest and has integrity (albeit because there wasn't much else to her). That said, she unwittingly walked in on some major behind the scenes drama (Creator/JohnNathanTurner and Creator/EricSaward weren't speaking, Creator/RobertHolmes died mid-production on ''Trial of a Time Lord''...) [[LockedOutOfTheLoop without anyone telling her what was going on]], and feels that a lot of the reason she tried too hard was her attempting to sort things out and have everyone get along. By contrast, she enjoys appearing in the revival and getting the chance to rehabilitate Mel.

Mel is generally remembered as one of the worst companions in Series/DoctorWho history, but the fandom has become increasingly willing to acknowledge that this is not entirely Langford's fault, as the poor quality of writing for the show at the time and unusual circumstances of her introduction, follwed by Baker's firing denying her the chance to have a more conventional introduction, meant she never had a fair crack at the whip.

!! Tropes applying to her work:

* ScreamingWoman: Langford has done a ''lot'' of screaming in her acting career:
** In ''Just William'' her character's catchphrase was "I'll scream and scream until I make myself sick!"
** In ''Series/DoctorWho'' she was reportedly cast as Mel specifically for her ability to scream. For the first cliffhanger of her debut story, "[[Recap/DoctorWhoS23E3TerrorOfTheVervoids Terror of the Vervoids]]", producer Creator/JohnNathanTurner specifically asked her to scream in key F, in order to segue into the start of the closing theme music.
