The Underburbs is an indie comic book series created by Joe Haley and T.J. Dort, started in 2005, and continuing to this day. It centers around "Countess" Winifred Pale, a vampire bent on taking over the world with a scroll that turns people into monsters, unfortunately, due to incompetent subordinates and general lack of knowledge about our world, she has yet to succeed. Angela, a human-turned-witch from our world, serves as her {{Sidekick}} and viewpoint character.

Eleven issues have been released so far. Issues 1-3 were reprinted as a Trade Paperback with added material. It does not have national distribution, so ways to buy the comic are limited to some Massachusetts comics shops, via www.comixpress.com or by ordering them from the creators themselves at the_underburbs@yahoo.com.

!! This comic book provides examples of:

* ActionMom: [[spoiler: Angela's Mom]]
* AffablyEvil: Winifred
* AlphaBitch: Bel.
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: Bel to Winifred
* AntiVillain: Winifred.
* BadAssNormal: George's father.
* BecomingTheCostume: A major plot point in the story, as when exposed to Winifred's scroll, people become the things they're dressed as. [[spoiler: At one point, the creators even had an idea to make Angela change into anything by wearing a costume of it, but this was dismissed as "too video-gamey."]]
* BerserkButton: Winifred ''does not'' want Angela to misbehave in front of her father.
* ButtMonkey: The Hammer.
* CelestialBureaucracy: [[spoiler: The big demon at the end of Issue 6 and throughout Issue 7.]]
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: George.
* CreepyChild: Death-Ann, though it isn't really her fault. Basically she's a grim reaper with the ability to remove people's souls from their bodies. Problem is she's only a toddler and doesn't really know any better.
* CuteWitch: Angela and [[spoiler:her mom]].
* DoubleAgent: Angela is only working with Winifred to make sure that she fails. Although, [[spoiler:they later develop as much of a genuine friendship as Winifred's selfishness will allow]].
* EverythingsDeaderWithZombies: [[spoiler: Issue 3. 'Nuff said.]]
* EvilCounterpart: Bel, in terms of Winifred, though both of them self-identify as "evil".
* FantasticRacism: Werewolves versus "wolfmen".
* FauxAffablyEvil: Bel
* FridgeLogic: Angela's main goal is to undo the spell connecting her town to the evil dimension. There's just one problem. That same spell created her cat, Bristle. So if she undoes the spell, Bristle ceases to exist. Then there's Death-Ann, a three-year old monster from the evil dimension who was adopted by a human family. If the spell is broke, Death-Ann either goes back to being an orphan, or gets trapped in the human world. Meaning her parents would either have to hide her, or she'd become a lab experiment.
* {{Halloweentown}}: The Evil Dimension and also the town of Pendleton, after Winifred turns people into monsters.
* {{Jerkass}}: Damon, especially after [[spoiler: he's turned into Death Lantern.]]
* LackOfEmpathy: In self-absorbed (Winifred) and more sadistic (Bel) flavors.
* NerdGlasses: Shelley's glasses.
* ObstructiveBureaucrat: [[spoiler: The man with people for fingers in Issue 7.]]
* RaisingTheSteaks: The zombie [[spoiler:organ grinder's monkey]]!

Hot Mom has been disambiguated. Examples not clearly fitting into one of the tropes other than Fetish Fuel mentioned on Hot Mom are being removed. If you think it fits one of these tropes, feel free to readd with proper context. Same with Hot Dad.

* HotMom: Angela's mother.
