* TenMinuteRetirement: Kara gave up on being Supergirl when she became a Red Lantern. At the end of the storyline she dons her blue-and-red outfit again.

* AnIcePerson: Tora uses her ice powers to help Guy and his Red Lanterns when they fight Shadow Thief in Red Lanterns #28.

* APlanetNamedZok: Leaving aside the obvious example (Krypton), Kara visits some weirdly-named world such like Ysmault, Grax or Primeen.

* DropTheHammer: Rankorr forms a hammer construct to fight Atrocitus.

* EldritchAbomination: [[spoiler:Worldkiller-1]] is an omnicidal, shape-shifting, sentient alien black goo which steals -and often consumes- bodies and is bonded with an indestructible armor suit. And it's nearly as strong and invulnerable as a Kryptonian. And it isn't vulnerable to Kryptonite.

* HurtingHero: Kara felt so hurt, betrayed and lonely that she joined the Red Lantern Corps because she needed to belong with ''someone''.

* EleventhHourSuperpower: During the climactic final battle, Supergirl tricks the seemingly invincible Worldkiller-1 into dunking her into the Sun as she's dying. The sudden influx of solar energy boosts Kara's powers up to insane levels, and she proceeds to completely annihilate Worldkiller-1.

* JerkToNiceGuyPlot: Kara's ordeals show her how to move past her angry, rotten attitude and go back to be the kind, nice girl she was before losing her world and most of her family.

* ArmorPiercingSlap: In Red Lanterns #31 Bleez slapped Supergirl when Supergirl's impulsiveness and recklessness almost destroyed the very city that they were trying to save.

* BattleOfWits: Supergirl cannot beat or shake off Worldkiller-1, or stop it from taking over innocent people to coerce her into being possessed. Kara then says she will agree to become its new body if it releases its current hostage. Wordkiller-1 starts bonding with her... and Supergirl uses her Red Power Ring to teleport into the Sun. She then pulls her Ring out (an automatic death sentence for a Red Lantern like herself) before it can take over. Annoyed, Worldkiller-1 releases her body and leaves her for dead...before realizing the influx of solar power has restarted her heart and is healing her wounds and amping her powers up. As she beats Worldkiller-1 for good, Supergirl ponders it was a risky gambit...but it paid off.

* BigDumbBody: Subverted. [[spoiler:Wordkiller-1]] transferred his soul into the body of [[spoiler:Supergirl]] because she was crazy powerful and inmensely strong, and he thought she was only a stupid girl. By the time he realized she wasn't dumb at all and [[spoiler:she had outsmarted him to force him out of her body and kill him, it was too late.]]

* HoistHeroOverHead: In Supergirl #33, Kara does this to [[spoiler:a living Kryptonian suit]] before hurling it into the Sun.

* EverythingsBetterWithSpinning: In Supergirl #30, Kara used a spinning move -combined with grabbing an enemy and use it as a blunt weapon- to defeat a cohort of Diasporan invaders.

* DynamicCharacter: Kara starts off full of grief, depression and anger due to months of losses and conflict. Thanks to her new teammates she grows out of her angst, learns how to handle her rage in constructive ways, and becomes more thoughtful and happier.

* BadassMustache: Guy has a very large and bushy moustache.

A short while after the events of ''ComicBook/HelOnEarth'' and ''ComicBook/KryptonReturns'', Supergirl picks a fight with ''SelfDemonstrating/{{Lobo}}'' in the research facility known as "The Block". Realizing he can't go toe-to-toe with a Kryptonian, Lobo does everything he can to push her buttons and to make her so irrationally angry that she can't fight effectively.

* KubrickStare: In ''Supergirl 28'' Kara does this when ''SelfDemonstrating/{{Lobo}}'' [[http://abload.de/img/supergirl28-2lvkbh.jpg tries]] and [[http://abload.de/img/supergirl28-3otkq6.jpg manages]] to drive her mad, and it is used to hint that she is about to completely lose it.

* EvilCostumeSwitch: When Kara flies off the handle and becomes a Red Lantern, she wears a red-and-black version of her costume, completed with a red domino mask and a different ChestInsignia.

* EvilMakeover: It happens at the beginning of the arc, when Kara sees red. She becomes a Red Lantern and starts wearing a red-and-black version of her Supergirl costume.

'''TONY:''' I was going to have Blaze create a trio of henchgirls called the Furies. Remember Siobhan’s roommate and her two friends? They were all orphaned in superhero battles and had sworn themselves to finding a way to make super-people pay. They were going to beat Supergirl and take her back to Blaze’s home dimension. Hilarity would ensue. I wanted to get Siobhan in there more, to make her and Kara a team. I had one issue where the newly Red Lanterned Kara fights Silver Banshee, and I contrasted their fight with flashbacks of Kara and Siobhan just having fun roommate moments. That remains one of my favorite things from the run: just letting her have a friend. Michael returns in my final issue, and we’ll see if they do anything with him after that. If not, it was enough that Kara met a guy who had every reason to hate life and yet retained a positive outlook. He was in many ways a good role model for her, and he didn’t want to trick or use her, which is nice for a change. And Shay I wanted to keep playing sort of mysterious. Is she really a friend to Supergirl, or does she view her as another science project? Shay’s still a bit of a cypher to me, which is okay if she’s played for mystery. But I liked doing scenes of her staff at the Block talking about what it’s like being stuck there, having to wear her face, alternating between admiration and resentment. It gave the whole Block set-up a little complexity.

* AnIcePerson: Tora uses her ice powers to help Guy and his Red Lanterns when they fight Shadow Thief in Red Lanterns #28.

* WeUsedToBeFriends: Kara befriended Siobhan "Silver Banshee" Smythe shortly after arriving in Earth. However she broke it off when she thought Siobhan was using her. When they meet again in Supergirl #29, they fought. Shioban blamed herself for their friendship's end, but after a while Kara thought she was the one ruined it.
