* AccidentalTruth: Mandy scares Claire's {{beta bitch}}es by claiming that instead of going to college, she's going through a Tamaranean passage of initiation in which she finally gets her powers and has to fight a terrifying monster. Then Blackfire shows up with her own idea of "initiation", which is essentially as Mandy described.

* LikeFatherUnlikeSon: Gender-inverted. Mandy is the opposite of her mother in so many ways: she's gloomy, she's fat, she dyes her vibrant orange hair black, and she doesn't have access to her Tamaranean powers yet.

Trying to revise this, partly via using a term I feel is more fitting.

17-year-old Mandy is the daughter of ComicBook/{{Starfire}}, but how she looks and acts is nothing like her - she's chubby, she's a goth, she hates the world and she doesn't have super powers. As Starfire wants Mandy to have a better life and pushes her to go to college, Mandy has a secret of her own -- she walked out on her [=SATs=] and is planning to run off to France to live her own life away from her mother and anything superheroic.

* AdaptationalNameChange: Beast Boy eventually started going by Beast, probably because the name stopped working when he became an adult.
* AdaptationalSkimpiness: Blackfire in the normal comic continuation usually wears full body outfits. In this comic she wears an outfit that exposes more of her skin.

A couple of things: This example reads more like a YMMV entry, rather than a trope actually explored within the story itself. Looking at the trope page itself, I couldn't even find similar examples that weren't In Universe characters, or actual fan fiction. This is an published, official Alternate Universe book

* SelfInsertFic: One of the main criticisms about the comic. As there have been comparisons between both Mandy and its author Mariko Tamaki looking similar, as evidenced [[https://forums.sherdog.com/threads/dc-comics-embarrassing-daughter-of-starfire-ya-book.4150656/ here]].
