* HistoricalDomainCharacter: Jofuku/Xu Fu was a Chinese alchemist who went to Japan in search of an elixir of immortality and never returned. Here, he's immortal, bound to Saga, and capable of raising the dead.

* HopeCrusher: Its entire goal is making Saga fade into obscurity and eventually stop existing as a prefecture, and while it mostly does so through killing people, it's also open to manipulating situations to mentally break people so that constant contrived deaths aren't needed to destroy Saga. Due to its more subdued nature, its acts are less obvious than The Curse but its effects are well recorded as it is responsible for giving the power of the Hyodo Farm's onions the power to seal the Sagako that the Saga Sagako Busters fought against, as well as the incredible good fortune that Kotaro and Tae have.

* AmbiguouslyHuman: His vague history with Yugiri and his brief confusion of the Zombie Land Saga Project as being about [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hizen_Province Hizen Province]]--a territory that was dissolved early in the Meiji period--indicate he's [[Really700YearsOld much older than he seems]]. He’s later confirmed to be an immortal being.

* MeaningfulName:
** "Jofuku" is the Japanese name of [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xu_Fu Xu Fu]], court sorcerer of [[UsefulNotes/QinShiHuangdi Qin Shi Huang]], who was ordered by the emperor to seek an "immortality elixir" at the top of the mythical Mt. Penglai. But he never returned from his quest. He was speculated by later scholars to have ended up in Japan as a king and cultural hero, some stories going so far as to declare Mt. Kinryu in Saga the "Penglai" of legend.
