* AmbiguouslyBi: He's attracted to females as he clearly gets smitten with a female hyena[[note]]actually "she" was Sharko's fin ([[SincerityMode yes, really]]) disguised as that[[/note]] in "Fishy Story". And in [[spoiler:"The Scent of the Hyena", he falls in love with himself. While the latter was while he was effected by a LovePotion-like [[SmellsSexy deodorant]], it's unclear if the smeller's sexuality effects it or not]].

* CosmicPlaything: ''Ohhh boy''. Outside of the rare [[ThrowTheDogABone bones]], this universe hates Zig. It generally [[YankTheDogsChain yanks his chain]], has him experience CantGetAwayWithNuthin, and makes hardly anything go right for him (including via making most of the series a huge HumiliationConga with his name on it). He also oftentimes goes hungry and clearly gets the most abuse in the show, much is due to [[ArchEnemy Sharko]] who's a LightningBruiser with SuperStrength. Oh, especially (but not exclusively) in season 1, the other animals usually treat him like [[AnimalsHateHim a punching bag at worst]] or [[AllOfTheOtherReindeer a joke at best]].

* DemotedToExtra: He's the overarching villain of the original series, but takes the backseat to Bernie in the AfterShow.

* DirtyCoward: His response in [[spoiler:"Father in Law" when [[PapaWolf Poseidon]] and [[BigDamnHeroes Sharko arrive to rescue Marina from him and Bernie]]? [[ItsAllAboutMe He]] tries [[NeverMyFault blaming Bernie for everything]]! (Though it didn't prevent him from being a KarmicButtMonkey again.) Granted it's unclear if Bernie devised the plan or not, but Zig obviously participated in it]].

* {{Flanderization}}: While generally not [[ExaggeratedTrope overwhelming]], Zig has experienced this {{trope}}.
** In season one, Zig could [[EvilGloating mock Sharko whenever he thought he gained an advantage over him]]. Episodes afterwards, however, have him ridicule him ''almost everytime'' he believes he's gotten the upper hand over him.
** Justified. But, while he can be immature, it gets dialed up in [[AlliterativeTitle "Lightning Love"]]; [[LightningCanDoAnything after getting struck by lightning]], he [[ManChild constantly acts like an infant]]. Granted, [[StatusQuoIsGod it didn't last]].
** Yes, he's now obsessed with eating Marina. But according to flashbacks (at least those from the second season), he wasn't as fixated on eating her when he was younger.

* HumiliationConga: Most of the show's episodes are this for [[CosmicPlaything Zig]]. However, "Daddy Little Doggy" deserves a special mention. During one of his attempts to eat Marina, she makes him into her pet dog (though he's fine with this as he thinks it means he could get a chance to eat her). Later, Zig tries to run off with her, only for [[ArchEnemy Sharko]] to [[YankTheDogsChain stop him]]. And he makes him to play fetch, but [[AmusingInjury the stick he throws hits him in the back]] causing him to FacePlant. Zig then tries to return the stick to Marina and Sharko, but they just make him go back and return it on all fours. Sometime after arriving at Marina's home, Zig tries to eat her but [[YankTheDogsChain she unintentionally ruins it via blunting his claws]]. Subsequently, Sharko [[HatesBaths forces him to bathe]], with him later drying him via harshly spinning him. The two then dry him off with a hairdryer, which [[FluffyDryCat greatly puffs up his fur]]. Next, Marina gives him one [[GagHairCut embarrassing hair cut]]. She then makes him participate in a dog show and [[DidntThinkThisThrough he tries to vore her before it starts]]... [[YankTheDogsChain only for it to begin and for her to unknowingly thwart the attempt via dragging him]]. She accidentally causes [[AmusingInjury him to hit the lower part of a gymnastics beam]] and later tries to get him to transverse on it. However, he quickly falls off the beam causing [[TheFreelanceShameSquad the audience to laugh at him]]. Later Marina starts dragging him again and forcing him through a [[BuffySpeak tube-ish thingy]]. Then Sharko takes off on dragging him and he causes [[AmusingInjuries him to get hit by a seesaw's side. And the two run him face-first through some poles]]. The audience boos them, with Marina and Sharko soon [[AmusingInjury harshly pulling Zig while fighting over him]]. He's soon given the choice to pick between the two. Natch, he picks Marina and happily starts walking towards her. But Sharko jealously [[MakesJustAsMuchSenseInContext somehow shines his some of his muscles so they emit a light that causes a nearby plane's engine to fall in front of Zig]]. And [[YankTheDogsChain it pushes him towards Sharko]], who kisses and later pets him several times. [[spoiler:When Marina's castle catches aflame with her in it, [[ManipulativeBastard he tricks Sharko]] he's going [[BigDamnHero to save her]]. He then gets in the building and [[NearVillainVictory gets close to eating her]]...[[YankTheDogsChain but then part of the castle falls onto part of the platform they were on which launches the two out of the building]] which causes Zig to FacePlant. Then, he's kissed by her and Sharko, not that he likes it]].
* TheHunterBecomesTheHunted: He [[spoiler:spends most of the series trying to eat Marina. But, in one season 3 episode, she tries to eat ''him'']].

%%JerkWithAHeartOfGold is a less villainous version of NobleDemon, as stated on the latter's main page. However, Zig is shown to be a villain.
* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: Although it's clear he has [[NobleDemon good qualities]], he still has some moments of this {{trope}}.

** Possibly PlayedForLaughs but in [[spoiler:"The Conquistador" he realizes a conquistador was about to finish [[FriendlyEnemy Sharko]]. And he intially seemed like he was going to [[VillainousReacue rescue him]]. [[DefiedTrope But]], [[RefuseToRescueTheDislike he actually was just grabbing some ketchup to eat Marina with]]]].

* NeverMyFault: [[spoiler:After [[PapaWolf Poseidon]] and [[LightningBruiser Sharko]] both [[BigDamnHeroes arrive to foil his and Bernie's plot]] in "Father in Law", Zig tries pin the blame on Bernie (not that it saves him from being a KarmicButtMonkey again). Granted, it's never revealed if Bernie did come up with the plan or not. However, Zig still clearly chose to participate in it]].
* NiceGuy: It's implied in "Lightning Love" that [[UsedToBeASweetKid he was this when he was a cub]].

* NobleDemon: Yea, he's usually shown to be villainous. However, he does have [[EvenEvilHasLovedOnes loved ones]] (including his [[EvenBadMenLoveTheirMamas adoptive mother]]), [[PetTheDog likable moments]], and [[EvenEvilHasStandards some standards]]. He can also be a [[EvilVirtues good team player]]. And, the rare occasion where Marina isn't around, [[FriendlyEnemy he (more or less) gets along with Sharko rather well]].

* TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou: Sorta. He wants to devour [[NiceGirl Marina]] and he doesn't want anyone else to. It's justified given that, if somebody else eats her, he'll obviously never be able to devour her.

* PetTheDog: He has moments when he displays a heart beneath his sneakiness. For instance, before [[ItMakesSenseInContext escaping from a whale]] in "[[ShoutOut Moby Zig]]", Zig offers a [[Franchise/{{Pinocchio}} Pinocchio]]-[[{{Expy}} like]] character to leave with him. [[spoiler:He also congratulates the pilot for saving a ship in "The boating [sic] license [sic]"]].

* PsychopathicManchild: While often more mature than [[WomanChild Marina]] (nor [[HarmlessVillain is he as threatening as most cases]]) and can hide it well when going BitchInSheepsClothing, Zig still can resemble a BrattyHalfPint stuck in an adult's body. Not only does a [[NoseNuggets gag from "The Elevator Trip" imply he still picks his nose]], he can also [[VillainousBreakdown throw fits when stuff doesn't go his way]]. Special note goes to "Banana peel [sic]" when he starts crying like a 7-year-old child who's losing in ''VideoGame/{{Fortnite}}'' because he can't eat Marina. And when Bernie tries calming him via offering him a nearby banana, he [[UngratefulBastard rejects it and throws a wobbly]] about how he ''only'' wants to eat the mermaid. While that's partially PlayedForLaughs, there's also his tendency to be childishly [[EvilIsPetty petty]] towards Sharko (e.g. [[BlowingARaspberry blowing strawberries]] at him and occasionally mocking him via making him faces). It's most notable, though, in "Bionic Zig" when his treatment of him is like a youngster dismantling their toy.
* PsychoticSmirk: When he's plotting something, Zig can make evil smirks.

* ScaryBlackMan: An inverted example. "Goin' Home" (or [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YESNrRRuA6E at least its official description]]) reveals Zig is UsefulNotes/{{Africa}}n. He's also a HarmlessVillain who's naturally smaller than most of the main cast and he naturally isn't muscular.

* SignatureLaugh: Or rather, [[JustForFun/DrinkingGame take a swig whenever he lets the same laugh rip]].

* SinisterSchnoz: Subverted. He's a villain and he has a [[GagNose big nose]]. It's also shown in "Goin' Home" [[spoiler:and, to a lesser extent, "Desert Island Drought"]] that his nose is average-sized for hyenas (like himself) in this universe.

* SociallyAwkwardHero: He inverts this; as he's generally no hero but [[TheCharmer he's]] sometimes shown to avert NoSocialSkills.

* StarterVillainStays: He's the first threat to [[NiceGirl Marina's]] life in the series, and he's made '''''far''''' more attempts to eat her afterwards. It's downplayed given that he's basically always been a HarmlessVillain and a VillainousUnderdog.

* SuperPersistentPredator: This hyena will almost '''always''' attempt to eat [[OurMermaidsAreDifferent Marina]], regardless of what would happen if he fails. Special note goes to "Fishing for Hyenas", when he runs through a swamp of [[PiranhaProblem violent piranhas]]. Then a porcupine somehow gets in his mouth and he gets eaten by a plant. Also, none of this does anything to stop him from pursuing Marina.
* SuperSpeed: He's fast enough to run around UsefulNotes/{{Earth}} in seconds as Bionic Zig.

* TeensAreMonsters: It's shown in "Teen Rebels" that he wasn't above trying to eat [[NiceGirl Marina]] when he was a teenager. Also, when he briefly gets turned back into a teen in "The Cloud", he still attempts to swallow her.

* TokenRobot: During most of "Bionic Zig", Zig is the main cast's sole robot.

* VillainousBreakdown: He has plenty of these, albeit of varying intensities. Granted they're justified as being upset is understandable given he's such a CosmicPlaything. Also, they can be caused by interference from [[SuperStrength Sharko]], a LightningBruiser prone to beating him.
** He's in the mood for these in [[AlliterativeTitle "Tinky Toys"]] as he loses his composure several times during said episode.
** Implied to be subverted in [[spoiler:"Bodyguard". When Sharko thwarts his final attempt to kidnap Marina, [[NiceKitty Zig begins sacredly backing away]]. However, it's implied he was just acting and he intended for Sharko to do that]].
** Occasionally PlayedForLaughs. In "Banana peel [sic]" for instance, after Sharko ruins one his schemes, [[PsychopathicManchild Zig]] starts crying like a SpoiledBrat who didn't get ice cream.
** Played straight during one of his attempts to eat [[NiceGirl Marina]] in "The Invaders"; he starts off as confident as ever but begins freaking out when [[spoiler:Sharko's brain ([[DidntSeeThatComing of all things]]) starts pulling a BigDamnHero moment]].

** PlayedForLaughs in "Zig's Shadow"; Bernie feeds [[IneffectualSympatheticVillain Zig]] a Marina-like apple, a shrub resembling her (including its [[ExtremeOmnivore pot]]), and a [[ExtremeOmnivore painting]] of her. However, throughout the whole ordeal, his [[GrowlingGut stomach was growling hard enough to shake the ship they were on]]. And, even when [[ItMakesSenseInContext he accidentally swallows a camera]], it's implied he was still hungry.

* VillainousUnderdog: He's physically weaker than [[HeroAntagonist Sharko]] (who has SuperStrength). And for the "Villainous" part, just look at some of these {{trope}}s!

* VillainsWantMercy: While not as noticeable as some cases, sometimes [[IneffectualSympatheticVillain Zig]] tries to get [[HeroAntagonist Sharko]] to spare him. At least kinda justified because [[LightningBruiser Sharko]] isn't above pummeling him and he's got SuperStrength.

* WalkOnWater: He zigzags this ability (at least in season one); [[RuleOfFunny sometimes he can transverse on water]].

* WentCrazyWhenTheyLeft: [[spoiler:After his adoptive brother and [[HeterosexualLifePartners Heterosexual Life Partner]] Bernie leaves him in "A Brother's Tiff", Zig eventually [[GoMadFromTheIsolation begins losing it]]]].
* WeWantOurJerkBack: A downplayed one in "Veggiezig [sic]". After being hypnotized by Sharko, Zig quits being a sneaky villain. And the main cast seems to like the change (though [[BrainlessBeauty Marina]] doesn't seem to notice the difference). However, later in the episode, [[CrazyJealousGuy Sharko]] later wants him to return to his typical self.
* WhiteMaleLead: Inverted in the episodes when he's the protagonist, as he's UsefulNotes/{{Africa}}n (which is revealed in the Website/{{YouTube}} channel's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YESNrRRuA6E description for "Goin' Home"]]). It's also zigzagged as not all episodes center on him.

* WouldHarmASenior: Apparently PlayedForLaughs, but in "The Mime" he throws a elderly turtle off her chair. Doubles as WouldHitAGirl for an obvious reason.
* WouldHitAGirl: Even if you don't count him trying to devour Marina, a few instances have Zig attempting to drop something on her (e.g. a tree in "A Mysterious Guest"). He also tries blowing a stick of TNT at another mermaid in [[AlliterativeTitle "Manic Mermaid"]], which [[HoistByHisOwnPetard spectacularly backfires]].

* VeryPunchableMan: He's a villain and [[CosmicPlaything this universe has had more things happen to him than just being punched]][[note]]though that's [[AmusingInjuries happened several times]] too[[/note]]...

* BlackSheep: [[spoiler:Of sorts. It's shown in "Desert Island Drought" that Zig has (at least several) family members who are successful hunters. Zig himself, however, is an IneffectualSympatheticVillain and [[FailureIsTheOnlyOption his attempts at eating Marina are doomed for the get-go]]]].

* EvilIsSexy: He's sorta this InUniverse, ''especially'' when Marina [[CrushFilter sees him as]] a MrFanservice. Though, she was effected by his LovePotion-esque [[SmellsSexy deodorant]] at the time, which was during one of his plans to eat her.

* HesGotLegs: He gets a long, well-toned pair of legs when [[spoiler:Sharko turns him into… some-ballerina-thingy]]. And his outfit puts emphasis on 'em.

** [[spoiler:"The End of the World" ends with [[CryCute his eyes quivering like he was about to cry]]]].

* OverarchingVillain: He serves as the main villain of ''Zig and Sharko'' and he appears in every episode of that show. And, while [[DemotedToExtra he doesn't reprise this role]] in ''The Adventures of Bernie'', he still appears in {{Imagine Spot}}s and serves as Bernie's motivation to get home.

* OlderThanTheyLook: A brief, yet Downplayed and PlayedForLaughs example; he temporarily looks a lot like a baby in "Toys Attack!" despite being an adult. However, his face doesn't look like a baby's.

* AccidentalPervert: Kinda. While not lecherous himself, in "Let's Dance!" [[DidntThinkThisThrough he hides in a bathroom stall in hopes Marina would enter it so he could eat her]]. However, a [[FishPeople fish woman]] enters it instead...though it's unclear if he saw anything.

* VillainsWantMercy: While not as noticeable as some cases, sometimes [[IneffectualSympatheticVillain Zig]] tries to get [[HeroAntagonist Sharko]] to spare him. At least kinda justified because [[LightningBruiser Sharko]] isn't above pummeling him, he's got SuperStrength, and can be as cruel as [[WesternAnimation/OggyAndTheCockroaches Joey]].
