* InsecureLoveInterest: [[spoiler:She breaks up with Kanoko mainly because the latter still has feelings for Hime, but Sumika is also genuinely convinced that she can't support Kanoko as her girlfriend and will only be a burden to her if they stay together. This shows how much she undervalues herself and her role as Kanoko's new LivingEmotionalCrutch.]]

She tries to convince herself that her affection for Kanoko is just sisterly love because she's her Schwester, but Nene makes her start to realize that what she actually feels is romantic love.

* LoveEpiphany: [[spoiler:At first, Kanoko only asked Sumika to be her girlfriend because Yoko told her to. After Kanoko admits her real reasons, Sumika decides they should break up because both deserve better than a FakeRelationship. This leads to Kanoko realizing that she ''wants'' Sumika to still be her girlfriend, having fallen in love with her for real.]]

** In chapter 63, [[spoiler:she finally feels guilty for taking advantage of Sumika's kindness until that point and makes the effort to repay her by lending an ear and reassuring her that she definitely isn't worse than Yoko for not noticing Nene's true feelings and unwittingly breaking her heart.]]

* RomanticFakeRealTurn: [[spoiler:Kanoko asks Sumika out, having been influenced by Yoko. Turns out both Kanoko and Yoko want Sumika to get over her opposition to romance, even though Sumika knows Kanoko is still in love with Hime. After Kanoko admits to Sumika her real reasons for having asked her to date, Sumika is convinced that Kanoko will never love her and gently asks her to break up so Kanoko can face her real feelings for Hime. However, this causes Kanoko to realize she has really fallen in love with Sumika for always loving and supporting her, and she asks her to become a couple again, for real this time.]]

* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: Same-sex example. Kanoko eventually develops feelings for Sumika, who is a very kindhearted, compassionate, and selfless girl always watching out for Kanoko's well-being.

* SkewedPriorities: She has such a strong need to deny the possibility of Hime ever falling for Mitsuki, that she would rather [[spoiler:try to downplay the fact she was sexually assaulted over admitting sexual intimancy has any significance, purely because the latter option leads to her admitting Hime didn't mind being kissed by Mitsuki because she has feelings for her]]. Sumika has to snap her out of those self-destructive thoughts.

* TookALevelInJerkass: In the early series, she's relatively tolerant of Mitsuki, although she discourages Hime from trying to get closer to her(mainly due to Mitsuki's hostility toward Hime) but as Mitsuki and Hime grow closer, Kanoko becomes more hostile to Mitsuki, jealous and emotionally unstable.

* UnrequitedLoveLastsForever: Kanoko believes a romantic relationship with Hime is impossible because Hime's dream is marrying into money. Kanoko still refuses to give up her feelings for Hime and swore to never fall in love with anyone else, even planning to become Hime's maid and forever stay by her side platonically after Hime gets married to a rich man.

* AmIJustAToyToYou: When she meets Yoko again, Nene tries to confront her about whether she was ever serious about their relationship or she was just in it for fun. [[spoiler:After a one-night stand, Nene asks Yoko to be serious about loving her if they get back together, but then Yoko brings up Sumika and how she wants to see her reaction to them being a couple again. Nene then confirms that Yoko won't ever see her as anything more than a means to mess with Sumika emotionally. Afterwards, she refuses to go back to Yoko when the latter offers her to seek her if she wants comfort after being rejected by Sumika.]]

* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: [[spoiler:She was in love with Sumika, but knows she handled her relationship with her very badly when she tried to make her jealous with Yoko instead of telling her how she really felt. Now that Sumika has fallen in love with someone else, she only wishes that Sumika's relationship with Kanoko works out in the end.]]

* TheBusCameBack: Returns in Chapter 45.

* JerkassHasAPoint: Her treatment of Kanoko, ''especially'' the borderline sexual assault, is horrid, but she does have a point in that Kanoko keeps trying to delude herself into thinking that things like kisses and sex mean nothing because otherwise she can't cope with the fact that Mitsuki has kissed Hime and Hime didn't dislike it because she does have romantic feelings for Mitsuki. Even after everything Yoko put her through, Kanoko ''still'' wants to think a kiss is irrelevant, but even Sumika, who hates Yoko, does agree that Kanoko should acknowledge the importance of physical intimacy.
