* AdaptationalVillainy: ZigZagged. He's a total jerk and shown to be bit of a tyrant unlike his counterpart from the second anime but it wouldn't be entirely far off with his counterpart from the first anime. On the other hand, the original source implied he was always a benevolent ruler to his people, whereas Abridged turned Yami into an evil tyrant who enslaved all of his kingdom.

** During his duel with Kaiba during the Duelist Kingdom and Battle City Finals arcs, he makes several jabs at the fact Kaiba is an adopted child.

Given his behavior towards Kaiba in TheMovie (making obvious sexual passes and then feigning obliviousness), he seems to do it to {{Troll}} people ForTheLulz.

* InnocentFanserviceGirl: Seems unaware of or indifferent about how attractive she is to other people.

* AmbiguouslyBi[=/=]AmbiguouslyGay: Each of them have depicted quite a lot of homosexual behavior throughout the course of the series. Case in point, Yami is ([[HeManWomanHater usually]]) shown to be interested in women, yet his relationship with his friends (sans Téa) practically ''drip'' with HoYay.
* CharacterExaggeration: Traits that were prominent to their original counterparts tend to go UpToEleven (i.e. Téa's firm belief about ThePowerOfFriendship and Kaiba's jerkass behavior).
