to:

* EverythingsBetterWithSamuraiDoesNotLikeMagic: He doesn't have ''any'' Spell or Trap Cards in his StoneWall deck and just relies on his monsters' effects. This proves to be more CrazyAwesome than people gives it credit; most of his monsters' effects require a graveyard free of Spells and Traps to work. This is the other reason why he never uses Action Cards.

One of Yuya's friends; he isn't actually a You Show student, but seems to hang around there a lot.

* Acrofatic: Well, he's more ''big'' then fat, but the sizeable guy goes on morning runs.
* TheBigGuy: He is very definitely one of the bigger characters.
* CatchPhrase: "Unforgivable, This is unforgivable, person name".
* EverythingsBetterWithSamurai
* GentleGiant: He can be a bit stuffy, but he's a pretty nice guy.
* HotBlooded: He's this to the point that he dislike's Yuya running around to find Action Cards in Duels.
* LargeHam: The man, Gongenzaka, is most definitely this.
* ManlyTears: Both in a dream and when Yuya finally Pendulum Summoned again.
* StoneWall: His deck, Superheavy Samurai, focuses on monsters with high defense points.
* SixthRanger: Gongenzaka isn't actually a member of the You Show, but hangs around a lot.
* ThirdPersonPerson: Not only does he refer to himself by his last name, but adds "the man" onto the front (or something around those lines).
* UndyingLoyalty: Without any knowledge of the circumstances, he refuses to believe that Yuya attacked Shingo Sawatari, and encourages the other students to do the same.

!!Reiji Akaba
--> '''Voiced by:''' Yoshimasa Hosoya

CEO of Leo Corporation, Reiji quickly develops an interest in Yuya's Pendulum Summoning, working on finding out about it from behind the scenes.

----
* BadassBookworm: Being a CEO at age 16 and a professional duelist at age 15 certainly qualifies him even before we see what he can do.
* BigBadDuumvirate: Possibly with his mother, Himika Akaba.
* EvenBadMenLoveTheirMamas: How "bad" he is is anyone's guess, but he's on very good terms with his mother Himika, though she's also bad and they're quite formal with one another.
* {{Expy}}: CEO of a gaming corporation, eh?
* TheManBehindTheMan: It's quite clear that he's the one pulling the strings of Shingo.
* PaperThinDisguise: Subverted. His disguise using a hooded sweatshirt is probably more to avert suspicion, as the people he's hiding from don't even know about him.
* TheStoic
* [[YouGottaHaveBlueHair You Gotta Have Silver Hair]]: Aside from that, it's actually fairly subdued.

!!Sora Shiun'in
--> '''Voiced by:''' Mie Sonozaki

A mysterious boy who decides to become Yuya's apprentice, joining You Show Duel School. He uses his looks to charm the pants off everyone he meets, and constantly seems to know more than he lets on.

----
* AnimeHair: Par for the course, closely resembling Rua's/Leo's, but blue.
* {{Badass}}: [[spoiler:He beat up Shingo and his friends in an instant. He is also just a kid.]]
** [[spoiler:He went freaking ninja on us on episode 6.]]
* BrattyHalfPint: Yuya is the only one immune to Sora's cute face and the only one that sees him as the annoying kid he is during episodes 5 and 6. Later episodes have characters previously enamored with Sora's cuteness being clearly annoyed to his actions.
* DeliberatelyCuteChild: Sora plays his cuteness to the hilt, charming the pants off of Yuya's mother, friends, and teachers alike.
* {{Expy}}: In looks, he's similar to Rua/Leo of 5D's.
* GenreSavvy: Sora knew that Yuya could cancel out his Trap Card's effect, so he set two of the same card and used the other when the first was negated, making him one of the few characters in the the entire franchise to run more than one copy of a single card in his deck.
* HiddenDepths: Kinda. There's no clue on what they are, but Sora's not just an annoying kid.
* MrExposition: Oddly enough. He is the only good guy (if a bit shady and secretive) that seems to know of the mechanics of the advanced Summoning methods of Fusion, Synchro and Xyz.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: Sora acts like a cute and defenseless child in his Duel with Yuya to make him lower his defenses and then counters him to the point of almost winning.
* PuppyDogEyes: When his [[DeliberatelyCuteChild act of cuteness]] isn't enough, Sora weaponizes the puppy eyes pout, and he can even add some CrocodileTears for extra power.
* StalkerWithoutACrush: Sora in episode 5 was more or less stalking Yuya.
* SweetTooth: Sora is always eating something sweet. ALWAYS.
* TheThingThatWouldNotLeave: Hoo boy. Sora spends half of episode 5 following Yuya. From his house to his school, from his classroom to his ''toilet break''. [[spoiler: And even after Yuya beats him in a Duel, he joins the You Show to become Yuya's friend rather than his apprentice.

!!Shingo Sawatari
--> '''Voiced by:''' Shogo Yano

An LDS student with an ego that rivals that of the series' finest. He's a fan of Pendulum Summoning, being currently the only person other than Yuya to use it, but quickly develops a grudge against him.

----
* AmbulanceCut: Inverted. [[Blatent Lies After being stated to be in great pain by his friends]], we cut to Shingo happily chowing down on melons in his hospital bed.
* AttackBackfire: His duel with [[spoiler: The Dark Duelist.]] [[spoiler: The Dark Duelist]] starts off by setting five Spell/Trap Cards. Shingo takes the bait and, using a new deck he made, sends all of them to the graveyard. This allows [[spoiler: The Dark Duelist]] to win the duel, via Spell and Trap Cards with effects that activate from the Graveyard.
* ButtMonkey: Shingo has lost both of his two on-screen duels despite painting himself as a great duelist. Whenever he tries to brag, people either don't listen him, cut him off, or chew him out for his small talk being used to cover his incompetence whilst acting like a brat for losing. Even his loyal friends notice this sometimes.
* DeliberateInjuryGambit: Well, kinda. Whether he actually had any plans after playing up his injuries from his duel with [[spoiler: the Dark Duelist]] isn't disclosed.
* GotMeDoingIt: After being defeated by Yuya, Shingo seems to have adopted some of his hamminess, even as his minions [[LampshadeHanging comment]] on it he can be heard in the background saying: [[BorrowedCatchphrase "Ladies and Gentelmen!"]] while making a bunch of dramatic gestures.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: [[spoiler:Yuya beats Shingo with a card Shingo gave him as an insult.]]
* ITakeOffenseToThatLastOne: Yuzu calls Shingo a "coward, sore-loser, and second-rate duelist". The last one is what causes Shingo to react, especially when Yuzu says that he's not even on that level and calls him a "hundred-rate" duelist.
* {{Jerkass}}: Shingo steals Yuya's Pendulum Monsters and then forces Yuzu and the kids into danger so he can test the cards out.
** [[spoiler:After he loses, he tries to get his friends to help him steal the cards by force.]]
* LargeHam: After Yuya Gets Him Doing It, Shingo ups his hammieness.
* LaserGuidedKarma: [[spoiler:Shingo was defeated by a card he threw away and called trash.]]
* RealityEnsues: [[spoiler:After Shingo loses to Yuya, he just tries to steal the Pendulum cards by force.]]
* SmallNameBigEgo: Big time.
* TookALevelInBadass: After getting his new Monarch cards, he claims that he's done this, and given that the cards are fairly strong in the real game, you can kinda agree. Only for him to get curb-stomped in the next duel.

[[folder:Main Characters]]

!!Yuya Sakaki
--> '''Voiced by:''' Kenshō Ono (JP)

The main protagonist of ''ARC-V'', an eighth-grader who attends You Show Duel School. He aspires to become an Entertainment Duelist and bring laughter to people through his duels like his father did before him, at least before his mysterious disappearance three years ago.

He owns a good-luck charm pendant his father gave him when he was younger, which mysteriously glows during his televised exhibition match against Noboru Gongenzaka. This ends up giving him the ability to unlock the power of an entirely new form of Summoning; Pendulum Summoning, which quickly sets off a chain of events that may go well beyond his control.
----
* AnimeHair: Like his predecessors in other ''Franchise/YuGiOh'' installments, his hair is pretty out there. However, it's more subdued in comparison, and the "out there" part comes more from the hair colors; half red and half green.
* BerserkButton: Don't threaten the You Show Duel School around him. It's the school his father set up.
* BrokenPedestal: In episode 2, after finding out that Pendulum Summoning requires special cards, most of his fans begin thinking of him as a cheater.
* CatchPhrase: He has two during duels: "Ladies and gentlemen!" and "The fun's just getting started!"
* ChildhoodFriends: With Yuzu. This becomes the reason why Yuzu's meeting with the Dark Duelist disturbs her so much, due to hi resemblance to Yuya.
* CoatCape: He likes to wear his jacket this way. It never seems to fall away from him, even in situations were it reasonably should, like when he's performing all his acrobatic stunts.
* CombatPragmatist: His Dueling style is this. He Summons a speedy animal and runs around to find Action Cards, allowing him to disable his opponents attacks and such.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: He has red eyes, which matches with most of his hair.
* DisappearedDad: Yuya's father Yusho was a popular Duelist, but three years ago, he no-showed an event and hasn't been seen since. Mentioning anything about his father is one of the only times Yuya won't be smiling.
* DragonRider: He can ride his Odd-Eyes Dragon and Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon in Action Duels.
* FreezeFrameBonus: After he bumps into Noboru in the first episode and takes off his goggles, you can see tears in his eyes, hinting at his stepford smiler personality.
* FunPersonified: Yuya lives to entertain people and bring smiles to their faces.
* GogglesDoNothing: His goggles don't seem to have any practical purpose, though he does use them to hide his feelings.
* IdiotHero: Even accounting for unfamiliarity with it, there's no way it should have taken someone with average deductive abilities so long to replicate Pendulum Summoning as it took Yuya, especially not if they reviewed recordings of Yuya's duel as he himself did. Nonetheless, Yuya somehow takes nearly three hundred Duels to successfully perform another Pendulum Summon.
* InstantAwesomeJustAddDragons: Yuya's ace, Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon. Which is odd, as the Monster with the "XXXX-Eyes YYYY Dragon" name format is usually the rival's ace instead of the main character's.
* LargeHam: He tends to treat Duels like a show, so he is very large and dramatic.
* LaserGuidedKarma: His teasing of Futoshi in the first ending earns him a quick smack from Yuzu's fan.
* LetsGetDangerous: When Yuya is going to win he loves to say, "the fun is starting".
* LivingEmotionalCrutch: Well more like Dueling Emotional Crutch, but Odd-Eyes functions as this for Yuya. If Odd-Eyes is destroyed, Yuya is crushed.
* LoserSonOfLoserDad: His father got a reputation as a Dirty Coward for his no-show and disappearance. Many people mock Yuya and suggest he must be a coward as well.
* MulticoloredHair: His hair is both red and green.
* NiceGuy: He's shown to be fun-loving and relatively easygoing.
* RedHeadedHero: Yuya is the protagonist and has almost completely red hair, notably being the first main character in the ''Franchise/YuGiOh'' spin-offs to have it.
* SadClown: Confirmed to be this by his mom in episode 1. She states he makes fun of himself before others can. This might be lampshaded when Yuya enters his match against Strong Ishijima dressed as a clown.
* SavvyGuyEnergeticGirl: Inverted in his dynamic with Yuzu, with him as the energetic guy and her as the savvy girl.
* StepfordSmiler: He's the "sad inside" type. According to Yuya's mother, he created his Fun Personified persona to cope with his father's disappearance and the negative stigma it brought him. It's a result of his father's advice to "laugh when you feel like crying".
* StopHavingFunGuys: Inverted; he argues that the point of Dueling is so people can have fun.
* TrainingFromHell: Well card game version, but between episode 2 and 3, Yuya and Noboru dueled through the night and at least had 291 duels.

!!Yuzu Hiragi
--> '''Voiced by:''' Yūna Inamura

The heroine of ''ARC-V'' and Yuya's childhood friend, she is the daughter of the owner to You Show Duel School. Where Yuya is energetic and upbeat, she is more rational, though rather quick to lose her temper. She has a habit of whacking people, particularly her father and Yuya, with a paper fan whenever she's annoyed with them.

----
* ActionGirl: She's a duelist in training, same as Yuya, and proves it in the second episode when she duels him and wins.
* AmazonBrigade: Her deck seems to contain mostly female Fantasia-type monsters.
* ChildhoodFriends: With Yuya, which is why her meeting with the Dark Duelist disturbs her so much. He looks like Yuya, making her question just how much does she really know about her best friend.
* CoolBigSis: She acts this way to the younger students of You Show Duel School.
* ExplosiveInstrumentation: In the first episode, Yuzu loses her temper and pounds on a keyboard, which damages the school's Solid Vision system and forces them to get a replacement
* GirlishPigtails: She wears her hair in this style, complete with blue barrettes.
* NiceGirl: She's kind-hearted and shows it most of the time, though she won't hesitate to use her paper fan as a weapon when the time calls for it.
* RoseHairedGirl: Her hair is two different shades of pink.
* PaperFanOfDoom: She smacks her father with a paper fan whenever he does something stupid. Her other target is usually Yuya.
* SavvyGuyEnergeticGirl: Inverted in her dynamic with Yuya; where he's the energetic guy and she's the savvy girl.
* Tsundere: Yuzu is a type B; she is generally kind, but Yuya's messing around annoys her.
* ZettaiRyouiki: She is a Type S, having Type A, being a Tsundere and having twin pigtails.
