* CreatureOfHabit: In ''Ralph Breaks the Internet'', Ralph revels in the life he and Vanellope have had for the past six years. Every day they go to work, every night they get to have fun and play in the many games in the arcade, they watch the sunrise together, then they do it all again the next day. For Ralph, he's living the dream. This is at odds with Vanellope who wants to mix things up in her life and face the rush of the unpredicable.

Not considered a trope anymore as per TRS

* CryCute:
** Starts crying when she discovers [[spoiler:Ralph went behind her back and struck a deal with King Candy]]. Proceeds to get worse until [[spoiler:Ralph smashes her car to pieces]], at which point she completely loses it.
** A more straight and positive example occurs [[spoiler:after ''Sugar Rush'''s restoration and the reveal of Vanellope being its ruler, where she tears up while offering Ralph a place in her castle.]]

* ObfuscatingStupidity: While not a super genius, Ralph is still intelligent and contemplative enough to understand how undesirable his life is at the beginning of the first movie, and to yearn for a better life. But when he talks to Felix after trying to enter the game's anniversary party, he acts a lot more awkward and oafish, pretending not to know things that he does know (such as it being the game's 30th anniversary.) Presumably, he feels the need to act the part of the big, dumb brute, since that's what the Nicelanders and Felix think he really is. As the movie goes on, he eventually drops this act and shows his more thoughtful side to the other characters.

* IAmWhatIAm: His Bad-Anon Creed: "I am bad, and that's good. I will never be good, and that's not bad. There's no one I'd rather be than me." Repeated at the end — he feels proud of being a hero in Vanellope's eyes, even if the rest of the world views him as a villain.

* DemotedToExtra: In the sequel, where she's only present for a handful of scenes along with Felix near the beginning and ending. She even ends up with one less scene than Felix, who gets a scene between him and Ralph. She and Felix were originally going to appear in a plot (that eventually rejoined with Ralph and Vanellope's) where we would see how the couple was handling the racers, but it was reportedly cut due to time constraints (though no explanation exists for why it received lower priority than the cameo scenes).

* DrowningMySorrows: Joins Ralph in doing this in the wake of taking in [[BrattyHalfPint all 15 displaced Sugar Rush racers outside Vanellope]] when the game is unplugged. There's a point in their conversation where it dawns on him that he's stuck babysitting such an unmanageable number of unruly children and he downs the rest of his entire mug of root beer in one swig.

* BewareTheNiceOnes: Ralph can be a great guy to befriend, but [[BerserkButton that doesn't mean he doesn't have his limits]].

* MeanCharacterNiceActor: In his game, Ralph is a hulking, raging brute that fully intends to smash a building full of innocent tenants. When the game isn't being played, he is a sweet, gentle, and well-spoken person who appears to have a friendly and professional relationship with the other video game characters. Interestingly enough, the game actually hints at this in the intro sequence, where Ralph is presented as happy and friendly and just taking a nap in a tree trunk, only to wake up with his home forest destroyed, at which point he goes [[BerserkButton berserk]].

* AbdicateTheThrone: [[spoiler:(Debatably) retroactively subverted. When she becomes Princess Vanellope, she decides she doesn't want to be a princess, abolishes the monarchy, and declares it a democracy, announcing her intent to continue ruling as President. The "debatable" part comes in with the idea that Vanellope was apparently playing her scheming cards right to avoid being attacked or seen as an intruder, and the returning crew's apparent distaste of their lack of creative freedom on RBTI [[https://www.thewrap.com/ralph-breaks-the-internet-director-rich-moore-to-join-sony-pictures-animation/]], including Vanellope diverging from her established character to accomodate a cameo scene]].
