* WithAFriendAndAStranger: Osamu and Chika were friends before the start of the story, while they meet Yuma only in the present.

* BadassOnPaper: Osamu's accomplishments were hyped up to sound a lot better than they actually were; especially since he took credit for Yūma's some of yumas accoplishments to help hide Yūma's Neighbor identity, and fought no 3 attacker Kazuma to a draw(in a mock battle, after over 20 loses)

* CoolLoser: Inverted. Osamu seems like typical bully pickings--nerdy and awkward--but once his status as a Border agent is revealed, he becomes something of an idol and the school bullies promptly begin avoiding him.

* NaiveNewcomer: All of them are relatively new to Border, as Osamu's only been enlisted for a few months before the present.

* BroughtDownToBadass: By service agreement made between Border HQ and Tamakoma, in exchange for the enlistment of Neighborhood-born {{Super Soldier}}s Yūma and Hyuse, the two of them are forbidden to use their Neighbor-grade Triggers; especially the Black Trigger owned by Yūma. Both Yūma and Hyuse are regulated to only use the standard Border equipment for combat, and are not allowed to use any form of Tamakoma’s customized weapons. With these challenges set, how Yūma and Hyuse would use Border weapons creatively are the highlights in Border competitions; and they certainly showed off big time.

* FriendlyRivalry: Less direct than Yuma's rivalries, as snipers don't typically have to fight each other, but she becomes sniper buddies with Ema and Hiura, the latter of whom she refers to as her [[SenpaiKohai senior sniper]].

* SenpaiKohai: This seems to be basically his relationship with Hairein, where he is the Kohai and Hairein the Sempai. Also surprisingly forms a similar relationship to Yotaro of all people.

** Calm and collected on appearance, Osamu has one heck of a deep ChronicHeroSyndrome mentality, and insists, as in “stubborn,” to fend for what he believes is right. At the same time, Osamu is shown to be [[NervousWreck timid, cautious, and often confused]] in unexpected situations; [[RedShirt with practically no Trion power, no physical strength, nor Side-Effect superpowers]] to defend anyone, nor for himself; no matter how much TrainingFromHell [[RefusedByTheCall he’s willing to go through]]. Osamu’s initial reasons for serving in Border was simply to give himself a bit of self-worth to help civilians, and not out ToBeAMaster; most likely because he knows his own weight. As he begins a new journey with Yūma and Chika, we see Osamu’s constant struggle in wishing to become physically powerful. But reality slaps him in the face one after another to ground him, forcing him to look to his colleagues to show him other ways to become a competent man. [[AnAesop The Aesop]] for him is you don’t have to be flashy to earn people’s respect. Learn to work with what you have, reach to what you can achieve, then use whatever skills you have honed to support your work environment, then people can see you and respect you for who you are.

* TheIdolsBlessing: Osamu is a mild HeroWorshipper to Jin, who saved his life one time from Neighbors. Thanks to Jin [[{{Seer}} affirming]] Osamu’s importance to Border, Jin became the most important backer of Osamu; granting Osamu’s enlistment into Border as a combat agent, and helps ensure Osamu is able to remain in Border despite breaking any rules.

In order to protect Yūma and Chika from central Border resource abuse, and to pursue their shared goal of joining the expedition force, as much as he understands his limited capabilities as a combat agent, Osamu agreed to lead as Tamakoma-2’s squad captain.

* AmbiguouslyHuman: Looks like a human but is a humanoid neighbor in truth. The white hair might give a hint (though it actually isn't entirely natural). Given that his father may very well have been a Japanese human, though, it's debatable if he's even a biological Neighbor (if any pnysical differences between them and humans even exist).
