A new hire much like Higashida, Saiki spent much of his childhood out of Japan, and as a result he can barely read or speak Japanese. When a friend sent an application with his personal info on it as a prank, he was obviously at a loss at what to do about it. Despite this communication problem however Sakaki hires him ''anyway'', and as a result he's now under Kisaki's dubious tutelage.

* BrutalHonesty: Since Saiki never grew up in Japan, he never developed the usual societal filters the rest of his co-workers have. As such whenever he notices something, it's likely that he'll comment on it, regardless of the possible consequences. For example, him noting that Shiho should just stop being mean for Yuuta rejecting her ''years'' ago nearly made Shiho attack him.
* GratuitousEnglish: Despite the fact that Saiki is a native English speaker who has very little knowledge of conversational Japanese, most of his actual dialogue (including conversations in which he's being corrected after saying the wrong thing) is in Japanese. However, at one point after he messes up a Japanese phrase to a customer, he has a on-screen conversation with Kisaki in English. However, very little of it is comprehensible without subtitles.

Unfortunately, his linguistic mistakes are generally timed in a way that makes him come off as a total space case.

He eventually gives the ticket away due to fearing for his life and genuine regret at making her cry. Said act had the benefit of not only getting him on Shiho's good side, with the added bonus of a ¥500 (~$5) reduction to his debt, but it turns out the ticket was worthless anyway.

He's a little annoyed at how the rest of his family seems to be taking their current financial situation so lightly, but realizes that he now needs to get used to his situation, both at home and at work.

* BrutallyHonest: Whenever it comes to Miyakoshi or her family situation, the guy has no filter. And since Miyakoshi has caused him to have a NearDeathExperience on more than one occasion because of her cooking, she usually lets him get away with it.

* ContrastingSequelMainCharacter: Unlike Takanashi, he doesn't have any strange, outstanding quirk other than being incredibly smart and at least to start, is less likely to get involved with the staff's zany antics.

* NotSoAboveItAll: Higashida is generally the StraightMan at the restaurant, but he has moments where his logic and reasoning is just about as wacky as everyone else's. For example, he agrees to start dating Miyakoshi because he figured if he refused, she would keep bothering him about it, and that if he went out with her, she would figure out that they're not a good match and would break up with him. This is already pretty wacky logic, but its even worse because Higashida knows that Miyakoshi only wants to date him because she was told by a shared hallucination that it would somehow improve her cooking ability.

* BookDumb: Incredibly. She's the floor chief while still in high school, but she can't answer elementary level history questions and when faced with high school level math, she didn't even know it was math.
