* CharClone: Inverted - Heinel predates [[Characters/GundamCharAznable Char]][[note]]''Voltes V'' was released in 1977, while ''Anime/MobileSuitGundam'' was released in 1979[[/note]]. [[Creator/YoshiyukiTomino Tomino]] actually worked on ''Voltes V'' for a short while before leaving later on.

* LastVillainStand: Deconstructed. His drive to keep serving Zambajil pushes him into more and more grief until he has no choice but to resort to [[OneWingedAngel Godol]]. Even after Godol fails, he still challenges Kenichi using Lozaria's dagger. When Lozaria's former husband recognizes it and realizes that Heinel is his son, he uses his last remaining moments to save Kenichi and accepts his death in the flames, while crying at his father.

* DumbBlonde: Inverted. He graduated as the top cadet at the Boazanian Institute of Military Sciences and Warfare, and was the only one competent enough to lead the Earthern Invasion. Even Zaki, who hates him, admits it.

* SilkHidingSteel: Heinel dresses like a wealthy aristocrat, but is capable of fighting like a warrior when he has to. It's said that he studied sparring at the aforementioned Institute.

* HonorBeforeReason: Continues to fight the Voltes team in the last episode, even though it is obvious his side is about to lose. The only reason for doing so is that he is a noble. The terrifying thing is that even though he's a OneManArmy at that point, he nearly ''does'' murder the Voltes team's leader pilot.

KillOnSight: He wants to systematically eliminate the members of the Voltes Team through this method. He personally tries to finish off Kenichi this way.

* ObliviousToLove: Heinel doesn't understand that Katherine loves him, and assumes that all her actions are for the sake of TheEmpire. This makes him have ChasteHero characteristics as a result.

* TheKingslayer: It is Heinel who delivers the final blow to ''Voltes V'''s BigBad, Emperor Zambajil, after realizing that he is a self-serving bastard who has no code of honour and would abandon Boazania if it benefits him. In a twist of {{Irony}}, had [[SelfFulfillingProphecy Zambajil's intense paranoia not driven him to antagonize Heinel]], this would have never happened.
* KinslayingIsASpecialKindOfEvil: Heinel believes in this, which is why he's sickened when he finds out that Kenichi, Daijirou and Hiyoshi are his younger half-brothers, and that Kentaro is his father, Gohl - meaning that he's been fighting against his own flesh and blood this whole time. He tries to appeal to his [[TooDumbToLive uncle Zambajil]] to stop the war, but he refuses and insists they kill Heinel. Zambajil bites the dust for that one.

The primary antagonist that the Voltes V team faces, sent by his uncle, Emperor Zambajil, to conquer the Earth. Despite being a member of the royal family, Heinel was subjected to relentless abuse and humiliation ever since he was a child because his father betrayed TheEmpire. He wants to quickly conquer Earth and prove his loyalty to them.

* AChildShallLeadThem: A variant. Heinel's age isn't specified in the anime[[note]]Supplementary material states he's 18[[/note]], but it is mentioned that he graduated from a military academy, and he's old enough to be a commander. This puts him at odds with Zuhl, who thinks that Heinel is too young to lead the invasion. He plots for the death of Heinel in the hopes of replacing him, but is caught in the act and then put through a HumiliationConga that ends with Heinel executing him.

* CainAndAbel: [[WarriorPrince Heinel]] is the older half-brother of Kenichi], Daijiro, and Hiyoshi through Gohl. However, none of them learn this until the GrandFinale.

* HeartwarmingOrphan: He was this as a kid before he became more jaded and cynical.

** When Hiyoshi is separated from the Voltes Team, Heinel and his aides discuss plans on how to capture and kill him. He also orders Girion to hold the Volt Frigate hostage, which he pilots. This is before he realizes that Hiyoshi is his youngest half-brother and that whole reveal doesn't happen until the GrandFinale.

* TheHero: Heinel is this within the story of Anime/VoltesV according to WordOfGod and not his younger half-brother, TheLeader Kenichi, as he's the one who TheBigBad Zambajil actually wants dead.

He even recalls Heinel being very popular with the kids watching the show during that time period of the late 1970s and early 1980s.

He also enjoys dangling the possibility of the Go brother's father being alive in their faces,[of course, this does work against him at times, however, such as in Episode 15], and even takes advantage of unexpected situations like Katherine luring Kenichi away from the Earthling base.

* RoyalBrat: He doesn't hesitate to remind people[or more accurately, his naysayers] that Zambajil is his uncle and that he is the Prince of Boazania, [[AppealToForce brandishing his sword]] to his aides when they suggest that Zambajil doesn't have his best interests at heart. Zaki knows full-well it's a sore spot for him, and enjoys pushing his buttons by reminding him that Zambajil hates him.
