* CrazyPrepared: Due to his training by Cain, he spends quite a bit of time to plan out his strategy, and is quite DangerouslyGenreSavvy. In one battle while letting Haruto borrow his body, he leaves a lot of detailed notes telling Haruto exactly what to do, and when to do it. And by following said notes, he manages to win.
* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: He plans his strategies out almost play by play, can often anticipate what others will do in response to what he does, and plan a counter against almost anything that comes up. Only Cain, his mentor, is able to outmaneuver his plans on a regular basis.

win.

* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: He notices that Valvrave's main strength is in close range combat and has little long range capability, so he specifically crafts a strategy to counter it. And it would have worked too if [[SpannerInTheWorks their plan wasn't foiled by]] Saki activating a second Valvrave unit.

* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: He doesn't seem to act out of the ordinary for much of the series, but seems to know a lot about what may be going on much like L-Elf, and in episode 11, outmaneuvers L-Elf, ramming Module 77 at high speed along with launching a BoardingParty onto the ship when their defenses were laid back shortly after Haruto's LimitBreak attack.

** IdiotHoudini: Shoko never suffered any consequences except her MyGodWhatHaveIDone moment courtesy of Pino.

to:

** In addition, she was standing ''right next to the ARUS president'' when he basically confessed to framing the students in Module 77 by shouting "I thought we sealed up the docking bay!" when Akira pulled a BigDamnHeroes moment saving her from the ARUS military, but still bought in to the BandwagonFallacy that the Valvrave pilots are all man-eating monsters because the vast majority of Arus says they are.
** IdiotHoudini: Shoko never suffered any consequences except her MyGodWhatHaveIDone moment courtesy of Pino.Pino, although she winds up being the pilot of Valvrave 01, and we all know ''that's'' not pleasant.

Added DiffLines:

* DidNotSeeThatComing: There was only one significant flaw in his master plan to frame the residents of module 77 as monsters, and initiating ThePurge. Akira ''lives and resides'' in her Valvrave unit, completely circumventing his plans to seal off the docking bay.

* {{Badass}}: Absolutely destroys the enemy forces with minimal effort after accepting the Valvrave's contract.

* '''{{Badass}}''': Two years before the start of the story, he apparently singlehandedly wiped out a batallion of ''five thousand'' men on his own, which led to his status as TheDreaded. He also nearly destroys an entire military base on his own.
** BadassBiker: Shows a high level of competence with a bike in Episode 19.

* '''''{{Badass}}''''': As of Episode 12 of Season 1 ''the'' most badass character in the series. Shown off when he beats the shit out of an armed L-Elf with his bare hands and later tears the living shit out of Unit 01 in the first episode of Season 2.
** BadassBoast: Gives a surprisingly direct one to L-Elf and Haruto in his Valvrave:

** BadassLongcoat
** BadassNormal: During a flashback in Episode 17, he takes out an entire armed terrorist group with just a sword and a knife to save H-Neun and X-Eins.
*** EmpoweredBadassNormal: Became a Magius two years later, which only upped his badassery even further.
** BadassTeacher: Remember how {{Badass}} L-Elf is? This is the man who taught him all that.
** ColonelBadass: His official rank. However due to being a part of the Magius order, his authority most likely expands far beyond his rank.
** FourStarBadass: With no less than 3 Medals of Honor to his name.
** HandicappedBadass: He's missing an eye, meaning he doesn't even have depth perception. He still manage to kick the most ass out of any character in the show.

* BlondGuysAreEvil: It's heavily implied that this used to not be the case before Cain was possessed by a Magius, but now that he is, it's played straight.

* ImAHumanitarian: She's a Magius, and ultimately reveals that this is what all Magius do to survive.
-->Lieselotte: "I survive by eating humans".

* SpoiledSweet: She's a princess, yet she's still very kind.

* KarmaHoudini: As far as we know the punk gets of Scott Free for condemning a bunch of innocent students to death by hopping on "the Magius tricked me" bandwagon.

* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: He has no need for the Magius anymore at the end of the series, and sells them out.

** BeneathTheMask: Debatable. He carries himself this way, however he participates in the Jior government election when he doesn't have to or their school festival (insisting Haruto should join him in his stand) when these are useless to his plans. He tolerated Haruto when he didn't have to, as well. Saki could have been expendable, but left her a letter and her Valvrave. He keeps insisting Haruto was this and that A-drei is now useful and that's why he is helping him in the CD drama when all characters finally realize he's putting an act. He changed after he was forced to kill F-Sechs (explained further in the CD drama 5) then he changed again after meeting Haruto. His only slip (Marie) was because of his reminder of F-Sechs that switched him back to his former operandi briefly. He's really saddened by Shoko's and Haruto's pain in the special 'message from the future', he's joyful when Takahi and Satomi married, etc.

* MaybeMagicMaybeMundane: It's not clear whether L-Elf's extremely accurate predictions are because of some supernatural ability or if he's really just that brilliant.
** Debunked as Mundane, he was taught by the greatest man in Dorssian military history: Cain.

* RescueRomance: Not in the traditional sense, but he falls in love with her after he holds her hostage, and she gives him "half of her life", signified by cutting off part of her hair. This prevents the Dorssian guards from killing him after he attempted to escape, and he then devotes his life to try and free her from the sheltered life she was forced into.

* VillainProtagonist

* EasilyForgiven: Remember infiltrating Module 77's academy and shooting unarmed civilians? Remember stealing Jior battleships in the harbor and ordering that they open fire on an obviously unarmed civilian structure? Remember escorting and defending Cain's drill which was documented spewing poison gas, in violation of international law, resulting in numerous civilian deaths? Not to mention being the reason Saki was impaled and revealed the truth of the Kamitsuki, leading to the deaths of many JIOR inhabitants? No? Well, neither do we. Come attend a wedding in NEW JIOR!
** To be fair, freeing Saki, and helping L-elf expose Fuhrer Amadeus probably made his "pardon" a bit easier to swallow.

* WhiteHairBlackHeart
** Subverted. He's called ''too nice'' by L-Elf and by Saki.
