The Fourth Anguis berates her for this, noting that it hasn't even been that long since Leonhardt's passing, whom Vita herself was apparently heavily interested in, and she's already showing interest in another guy. It's also worth noting that around this time she's already well acquainted and close with Crow. Downplayed in that she's not exactly all that bad compared to the other villains in ''Cold Steel II'' and by ''III'', she drops the "bitch" part.
* BrokenPedestal: For Machias and Eliot after finding out that she's part of Ouroboros. For Emma as well for breaking an unknown taboo of their clan.
* TheCastShowoff: In-universe, she shows off her singing voice by performing an impromptu rendition of [[CallBack Whereabouts of the Stars]] during a broadcast. Then she gets called out for it.
* ClarkKenting: Her disguise as Misty consists of glasses, a hat, and simpler and more conservative casual clothing. No one, could tell who she was, not even people who were fans of both her personas such as Machias and Elliot.
* CombatHandFan: Uses one in ''Cold Steel III'' after she loses her staff in ''Cold Steel II'' thanks to Rufus.
* ContraltoOfDanger: A low regal voice befitting her abilities, mysterious nature as a witch, and former occupation as an operra singer.
* CoolBigSis: She was this towards Emma when they were younger. Even now, though they're on opposing sides, it's clear that Vita still cares for the former in her own way and is willing to give her advice too.
* DeathGlare: Gives a FRIGHTENING one to Duke Cayenne after [[SpeakIllOfTheDead insults the recently killed Crow]] while holding Prince Cedric at blade point, complete with glowing BattleAura and [[PowerEchoes booming voice]].
* DragonWithAnAgenda: In ''Cold Steel II''. Although she's ostensibly subservient to Duke Cayenne for a majority of the game, she's not particularly interested in his goals and is merely pursuing her own aims irrespective of the Noble Alliance's well-being.
* EarlyBirdCameo: In an interview with [[WordOfGod Kondo]], she was the woman flirting with Kevin at the beginning of ''The Third.''
* EasyAmnesia: She has a form of memory-manipulating ability. If you speak to Trista Radio's manager before the final battle, he'll tell you that he honestly doesn't remember ever hiring 'Misty'. She also performs it on the Jaegers who were hired by Duke Albarea in the prologue, making them forget about what they saw in addition to having them leave Ymir.
* EnemyMine: In ''Cold Steel II'', She and Crow team up with Class VII to defeat the out-of-control Vermillion Apocalypse.
** [[spoiler:And then in ''Cold Steel III'' she lends her assistance to the heroes when they go up against Osborne and the other members of Ouroboros. What prevents it from being a full [[HeelFaceTurn Heel-Face Turn]] is that she's still loyal to the society - she just disapproves of their current operation.]]
** [[spoiler:Carries on in ''Cold Steel IV'' as well. She is even invited to the Imperial Wedding.]]
* EvenEvilHasStandards: When the Anguis discuss Weissman's death, she, Arianrhod, and the 1st Anguis consider him an AssholeVictim. And then there's Ymir where she thinks it was too much for Duke Albarea to raze Ymir just to grab Princess Alfin.
** [[spoiler:Happens in ''Cold Steel III'' as well. The whole reason she teams up with the heroes in it's climax is that she finds the Great Twilight plan to be way too dangerous to enact. As the ending shows, she was absolutely right.]]
* {{Familiar}}: Grianos, a blue-feathered bird capable of transforming into EldritchAbomination to attack enemies. It later died at Rufus' hand during the finale of ''Cold Steel II''.
* FanNickname: In-universe. Her fans call her the Azure Diva.
* GenkiGirl: When she's hosting Abend Time as Misty.
* GrandStaircaseEntrance: Her first appearance during Rean's field study in Heimdallr is this. There are only members of Class VII (and front desk) down there and clearly, two of them are awed by her appearance.
* GreaterScopeVillain: For the Erebonia arc as a whole, but particularly the first game and much of the second, when she's pulling the strings behind the scenes to enact the Phantasmal Blaze Plan, but does not get directly involved until her proxy, Crow, is in danger. It's hinted she may also have been heading up operations in Crossbell around the same time, making her this to Zero and Ao as well.
* HotWitch: Very beautiful and is a witch just like Emma.
* InstantFanclub: She's a famous opera singer. Well, famous in Erebonia at least and the idol of the capital. Machias and Eliot are ''huge'' fans. Goes double for her when she's also Misty.
* LimitBreak: Her S-Craft is "Aria of the Abyss."
* MagicStaff: She fights with one in ''Cold Steel II'' but later loses it thanks to Rufus.
* MasterOfNone: Not as extreme as Emma, Eliot and Alfin but she has rank for all attack type with relatively lower individual rank than most fighters. The difference is that unlike 3 other MagicStaff users, she manages to score B on "thrust" and "pierce" type.
* MsFanservice: She's very beautiful, something several characters (both male and female) comment on, and her default dress in the first two games is a [[SexyBacklessOutfit Sexy Backless Outfit]] that shows plenty of her ample cleavage and long, shapely legs.
* NotInThisForYourRevolution: Much like the other members of Ouroboros joined with the Noble Alliance, Vita has no interest in their goals and says as much towards Duke Cayenne during the finale of ''Cold Steel II''.
* NoodleIncident: Was apparently banished from the Hexen Clan after breaking an unknown taboo seven years ago. What the taboo was and her motives for doing so and her reasons for joining Ouroboros remain a mystery.
* OperaGloves: Wears these in her outfit in the third game onward. Fitting considering her former occupation.
* OptionalPartyMember: You can make her playable in ''Cold Steel II'' using DLC item in Japan. For the rest, all players just need to do is to buy a Phantasmal Mirror for 200,000 mira.
* OutGambitted: By Osborne at the end of ''Cold Steel II''.
* PetTheDog: Seems to have genuinely cared for Crow and is clearly upset over his death. She even apologizes to Class VII and asks them to take care of him. Partnering them up at the Reverie Corridor and she refers to him as an ideal knight in their victory quote.
* PimpedOutDress: When not disguising herself as Misty, her main outfit is a flowing blue dress befitting her status as an opera singer. She eventually trades it in for a somewhat more practical yet still just as fancy outfit in ''Cold Steel III''.
* PromotedToPlayable: While ''Cold Steel II'' allows players to use her via Phantasmal Mirrors, she isn't physically present herself. [[spoiler:''Cold Steel IV'' finally allows her to be playable once again alongside a lot of characters.]]
* PurelyAestheticGlasses: Justified because it's part of her double identity as Misty. Only Rean sees through it and this is because of his powers being able to detect through her illusion.
* PurpleIsPowerful: Her eyes are purple denoting her status as a powerful witch.
* PurposelyOverpowered: [[spoiler:While she's decently strong on her own, her Brave Order in ''Cold Steel IV'', "Secret Art - Azure Peacock", allows all characters a flat 100% increase in damage for eight turns, effectively doubling their attack power. She's only available for her dungeon's boss and the TrueFinalBoss fight. It's balanced by the fact that it costs 5 Brave Points to cast but at that point, players already have ways to regain BP pretty quickly.]]
* RapunzelHair: Her hair goes to her thigh.
* RedBaron: Nicknamed as the "Azure Diva" among her fans. Her her title as an Anguis on the other hand is "Azure Abyss".
* SecretIdentity: In addition to being an opera singer she took on the Misty persona and a job at Radio Trista for fun. Rean is the first person to find out about it and rewards him with a Misty sticker when she drops it off at his mailbox.
* SexyBacklessOutfit: Her default blue outfit
* ShowSomeLeg: Her usual dress.
* SignatureScent: Lavender
* TokenGoodTeammate: [[spoiler:In ''Cold Steel III'', all the other Anguis were willing to side with the gnomes in order to reclaim the Phantasmal Blaze Plan. Vita disapproves and goes independent.]]
* TranquilFury: When Cayenne is holding Prince Cedric hostage and calling a dying Crow a worthless wretch from a destroyed country, Vita stands, closes her eyes, and calmly orders him to unhand the prince before she makes him do it by force which is punctuated by her opening her eyes in her extremely creepy, shrunken-iris spell-casting expression.
* VillainousFriendship: Despite Crow not being an Ouroboros member, her friendship with him is genuine, as shown by their Combat Link and when she mourns his death.
* TheUnfought: In the first game. She's also this in the third game, [[spoiler:but that's because she and Class VII technically aren't enemies since Vita is currently opposing the current operations of Ouroboros.]]

!! Georg Weissmann, "The Faceless"/Professor Alba
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/georg_weissmann_s_craft_sc_evo.png]]
-->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/HideyukiTanaka (Japanese), Creator/KeithSilverstein (English)
-->'''Appearances''': ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfHeroesTrailsInTheSky FC]]'' | ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfHeroesTrailsInTheSky SC]]'' | ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfHeroesTrailsInTheSky The 3rd]]''

An archaeologist whom Estelle and Joshua meet in the Prologue of FC and appears several times since. He is researching relics of ancient Zemuria. At least, that's what he claims. He is in fact a high-ranking member of the secret society Ouroboros.
----
* AbsentMindedProfessor: Has shades of this as Professor Alba.
* AdaptedOut: Does not appear in the OVA.
* AdventurerArchaeologist: Double Subverted. In ''FC'', he appears to be a weak archaeologist who explores the Tetracyclic towers regardless of the risks, only to be revealed as the BigBad. Then ''SC'' reveals that despite his false name and persona, he actually is a certified archaeologist.
* AssholeVictim: [[spoiler:As cruel as his method of execution was, it's hard to feel the slightest bit of pity for him.]]
* BarrierChangeBoss: The first half of fight with him[[spoiler: at his [[OneWingedAngel second transformed form]] after merging with Aureole]], thanks to the mooks around him. The vulnerability exist even after the mooks were defeated and he can summon those indefinitely.
* BigBad: Of FC and SC
* CardCarryingVillain: [[spoiler:Zigzagged. He's a proud {{Sadist}}, yet he still views himself as the savior of humanity.]]
* TheChessmaster: Combined with ManipulativeBastard. [[spoiler:He was playing Cassius, Joshua, and the Bracer Guild since the opening cutscene of the first game by making Joshua a ManchurianAgent. Years later, he brainwashes Richard into starting a coup that allows Ouroboros to further undo the seals on the Aureole.]]
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: [[spoiler:Very ''very'' cruel. He is shot with a Salt Bolt, a 'cursed' weapon that slowly transforms the victim into salt from the inside out. Weissmann is fully aware what is happening to him as his body succumbs to the effect, cursing his killer with his last breath. After his whole body was turned into salt, Campanella ''shattered'' his salt body to pieces.]]
* CutscenePowerToTheMax: His True Evil Eye outright traps the party in cutscenes. In battle, it simply deals AOE damage while inflicting confusion and AT Delay.
* DarkMessiah: This is essentially how he sees himself. [[spoiler:Not for nothing is the final battle BGM of SC called The Merciless Savior. Though this might be a subversion because he seems to be the only one who believes he's doing any "saving." The Enforcers working under him all have their own agendas and consider their teamwork with him to be a matter of convenience.]]
* DeaderThanDead: [[spoiler:As a consequence of being killed with a Salt Bolt]]
* DeathGlare: His Evil Eye craft is far stronger than Joshua's.
* DyingDeclarationOfHate: His last words before dying are used to insult his killer.
* EternalRecurrence: His view of human nature is such that he is convinced that humanity can't be trusted to not make disastrous decisions over and over. The fact that about half of the known issues with the modern world are Weissmann's fault or are otherwise attributable to Ouroboros seems to have passed him by.
* EvilSoundsDeep: [[spoiler:In the ''Evolution'' remakes, when his voice sounds basically really deep, especially when he is gloating about his plans]].
* FaithHeelTurn: He used to be an academic priest after being taken in by the Septian Church, but his fascination with the Aureole and meeting with the Grandmaster led to him discarding the path of faith, in his own words.
* FauxAffablyEvil: [[spoiler:After his cover is revealed in FC, he tries to come off as an affable ex-boss to Joshua, while still planning on making his life miserable and turning him into a puppet again. At the end of SC, he even gives the party a historical lecture before forcing Joshua to kill Estelle in order to break him.]]
* FlawExploitation: He pulls this on Estelle, knowing that if some of her comrades are put in danger she'll [[LeeroyJenkins charge in to rescue them]]. [[spoiler:[[MagnificentBastard Cassius]] and [[ManipulativeBastard Kevin]] pull this on ''him'' at the end of the game, knowing that he won't possibly be able to resist the temptation to be a completely sadistic asshole once he regains control over Joshua. [[BatmanGambit They're right.]]]]
* ForTheEvulz: Subverted for the most part. [[spoiler:While he's a card-carrying sadist, his acts of cruelty are usually related to advancing his agenda in some way, with everyone's suffering being treated as the cherry-on-top. Even the trauma he puts Joshua through is supposedly part of an experiment for brainwashing humanity.]]
* FourEyesZeroSoul: He wears glasses before and after the reveal. He's also the most evil character in the trilogy.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: A Type 4 for the Anguis. No one in Ouroboros likes him but they are forced to put up with him, as he is the only one who knows how to find the Aureole.
* FromNobodyToNightmare: A series of coincidences turned an ordinary young man into one of the most dangerous people in Zemuria. [[spoiler:First, the [[CataclysmBackstory Salt Pillar Incident]] devastated his homeland and led to him being taken in by the Church. Then, his curiosity led to his desire to study [[TheseAreThingsManWasNotMeantToKnow the Sept-Terion and the Stigma phenomenon, which is forbidden.]] His desire caught the attention of [[TheAce Rufina Argent]], who [[AllThereInTheManual informed higher authorities about it.]] Weissmann was eventually excommunicated, but not before making a great deal of progress studying Stigmas... and not before he was approached by [[AncientConspiracy Ouroboros]].]]
* GoodEyesEvilEyes: His eyes are [[EyesAlwaysShut mostly shut]] as Professor Alba. As Weissmann, however...
* GreaterScopeVillain: Probably more so than any other members of Ouroboros as a lot of tragic events can be traced back to him. [[spoiler: He was involved with the Hamel incident that does change the lives of Joshua, Loewe, [[VideoGame/TheLegendOfHeroesTrailsOfColdSteel Rean, Osborne, Lechter and Ash]] which then spiraled with Osborne becoming the chancellor and started conquering other countries, Joshua and Loewe becoming Enforcers, Rean having a SuperpoweredEvilSide because Osborne had to transplant his heart to Rean, Lechter joining the Ironbloods to atone for his father's sins, and Ash carrying an Erebonian curse with the activation that he has "shoot the ones responsible for the incident", culminating with Ash shooting the emperor (who was innocent but offered his life to cure Ash of the curse) with a gun from Calvard and allow Osborne to declare war on Calvard.]] In short, ''the entire series'' can be blamed on him for pulling the metaphorical trigger!
* HateSink: He has absolutely ''no'' redeeming qualities. Not even his fellow Ouroboros members seem to like him all that much: His treatment of Joshua earned scorn [[EvenEvilHasStandards even from the other Anguis]], such as [[spoiler: Vita]] and Arianrhod. To top it all off, [[spoiler: after Kevin shoots him with a salt arrow, Campanella makes sure he'll ''stay'' dead, by smashing him to pieces.]]
* HolierThanThou: Estelle calls him out for acting this, complete with outright telling the trope name. [[spoiler:Made [[{{Irony}} ironic]] and somehow an [[InvertedTrope inversion]] since he was excommunicated from Septian Church due to his heresy act.]]
* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: He "cured" [[spoiler:Joshua]] of his catatonic state, but only because he wanted to use the boy as a brainwashed pawn. Not to mention he was behind the tragedy that caused the latter's trauma in the first place.
* KarmaHoudiniWarranty: [[spoiler:At the start of ''The 3rd'', most of the party thinks Weissmann escaped and became a KarmaHoudini for all his atrocities. They have no idea that Kevin delivered karma in the form of a Salt Bolt.]]
* KnightOfCerebus: His reveal as the BigBad establishes that the lighthearted mood of FC isn't going to last.
* KnightTemplar: A completely unsympathetic example. [[spoiler:He insists that humanity is hopelessly flawed and is doomed to either constant warfare or complacent hedonism, so he wants to use the Aureole to brainwash them via Stigmas like he did to Joshua. He also likes to conveniently ignore his own role in actively causing conflict between Liberl and Erebonia and insists that the fact that he easily manipulated these conflicts is proof that humans are sinful. He sees himself so far above humanity that he thinks his sadism is justified.]]
* LightIsNotGood: His name certainly indicates this [[spoiler:and even his OneWingedAngel form actually looks angelic in a way.]]
* LimitBreak: His S-Craft is "Another Dimension."
* MagicStaff: Uses one in combat, one given by the Grandmaster along with Loewe's Kernviter.
* MeaningfulName: His fake and real name mean "white" and "white man" respectively, which is the [[LightIsNotGood color he dresses in]] after TheReveal. His real name could also be considered a pun on "wise man", which fits as he is a scientist.
* NeverMyFault: [[spoiler:Even when Loewe gets him to admit to starting the 100 Days War, Weissmann has the audacity to claim that it was humanity's fault for being so easy to manipulate.]]
* NietzscheWannabe: [[spoiler:The ultimate explanation for his Gospel Plan and why his final battle BGM is called The Merciless Savior: He believes humanity is doomed to continually repeat the mistakes of the past and that everything will be pointless unless he forces the species into a new direction. Other characters (namely Estelle) are only too happy to point out that part of the problems are ones ''he'' caused and get a few points for thinking more like Nietzsche had in mind when they tell him that ''they'' don't think humanity is hopeless and are working to overcome their flaws.]]
* NotSoWellIntentionedExtremist: [[spoiler:He claims to be fixing humanity's flaws by using the Stigma to make them perfect, thus preventing their ViciousCycle of complacency, regression, and violence. Given that he constantly instigates human conflict and enjoys the suffering caused by his schemes, it becomes obvious he's a misanthrope who cares more about [[ControlFreak controlling]] and toying with humanity than actually saving them. This is further shown in his interactions with Joshua and Kevin. He claims the Stigma can save them from their tragic pasts, but is angered when their friends help them overcome their issues with their own free will, since that robs him of the opportunity to experiment on them and mold them to his liking.]]
* ObfuscatingStupidity: Downplayed. He actually does own his archeology credentials, but he pretends to be ditzy in order to hide his role as the BigBad.
* OneWingedAngel: [[spoiler:Twice, as a result of his merging with Aureole. His first transformation is into a gigantic white monster with what look like wings folded over the front of his body, no legs and [[EyesDoNotBelongThere too many eyes.]] When Aureole forcibly transforms him further, the 'wings' unfold to reveal enormous arms, a serpent-like tail attaches to his lower body and actual glowing wings sprout from his back with a halo completing the angelic imagery.]]
* PeoplePuppets: [[spoiler:His specialty, and it's implied his plan for "evolving" humanity is going to involve brainwashing.]]
* PerpetualPoverty: Professor Alba's excuse for never hiring Bracers.
* PsychoticSmirk: [[spoiler: His default expression after TheReveal.]]
* RedBaron: [[spoiler: Weissmann the Faceless.]]
* RedEyesTakeWarning: [[spoiler:His eyes glow bright red when he finds opportunities to engage in sadism.]]
* {{Sadist}}: [[spoiler:Ragnard accuses him of being unable to feel joy unless he's making his fellow humans suffer, which Weissmann takes as a compliment.]]
* SimpleStaff: His weapon is a staff given to him by the Grandmaster[[spoiler:which like Kernviter is described as being connected to the 'Divergent Laws' and was apparently given to Weissmann as a test and failsafe in case he went rogue]]
* SinisterMinister: [[spoiler:SC reveals that Weissmann was once a member of the Septian Church who was excommunicated for unspecified reasons. He certainly dresses the part. Outside material explains in more detail that he wanted to conduct research the church considered to be [[BrideOfTheMonster tampering in the Goddess' domain]], particularly concerning the Sept-Terion and the Stigma phenomenon.]]
* TheSociopath: He feels no guilt for the lives he ruined, acts charming to manipulate others, can only feel joy from tormenting others, and believes he's superior to the rest of humanity.
* SquishyWizard: His human form has less HP than all the Axis Pillar Enforcers while having the highest ATS, though he still has high DEF thanks to being about 5 levels higher than all of them except Loewe.
* TakenForGranite: [[spoiler:His death at the hands of Kevin is essentially this.]]
* {{Ubermensch}}: [[spoiler:He sees himself as this. The fact that his ideal is a new kind of human who will always make the 'right' decisions (as determined by Weissmann) should let you know how far off the mark he is.]]
* WeCanRuleTogether:
** [[spoiler:He tries to convince Estelle to join Ouroboros under the rationale that she can reunite with Joshua this way. Though this is a ruse because he only kidnapped her to lure Joshua out of hiding.]]
** [[spoiler:In Phantasma, a copy of him tries to convince Kevin to throw away his humanity to control the Stigma and be free from his grief. When Kevin refuses, the professor sics two devils, Rostrum and Astarte, on him to force him to change his mind.]]

Seventh Anguis of Ouroboros known as the "Steel Maiden". First appearing in ''Ao'', she makes a cameo appearance in ''Cold Steel I'' and later makes a full return as an antagonist in ''Cold Steel III'' and ''IV''. Due to the sheer number similarities between her and the legendary "Lance Maiden" of Erebonian history, many assume her true identity to be Lianne Sandlot herself. It's later confirmed in ''Cold Steel III'' that she truly is Lianne Sandlot, having survived her historical death through mysterious means.
----
* TheAce: Easily one of the strongest fighters on Zemuria.
* AllLoveIsUnrequited: Averted with Dreichels himself as her feelings were reciprocated but circumstances prevented them from getting together. [[spoiler:Once Dreichels had reincarnated as Osborne, a part of her had hoped that this time she would have been able to get together with him. Unfortunately for her, by the time that she found him, Osborne had already fallen in love with Kasia and started a family with her that resulted in Rean. Lianne, for her part, muses that so long as he was happy then it was alright.]]
* AntiVillain: Easily one of the least villainous members of Ouroboros.
* AmazonBrigade: The Stahlritter are Arianrhod's bodyguards ([[BodyguardingABadass not like she needs them]]) and they are exclusively female.
* {{Archenemy}}: [[spoiler: Ever since she learned about Ishmelga from Dreichels, she has made her number 1 goal to destroy him.]]
* ArmoredVillainsUnarmoredHeroes: Guess which side of the spectrum she's on.
* BackFromTheDead: [[spoiler:''Cold Steel III'' reveals that she did die as Lianne Sandlot, but she mysteriously came back to life. It's because as an Awakener, her life is tethered to her Divine Knight.]]
* BadassBoast: In ''Cold Steel III'' she delivers one towards [=McBurn=] when he asks for a fight.
--> "I, too, shall enjoy the night breeze if you break my helm."
* BigDamnHeroes: In ''Cold Steel I'' she appears in time to rescue Rean's field study group in Lohengrin Castle. It's revealed retroactively in ''Cold Steel IV'' that the reason she rescued him and his group is because [[spoiler:he's the son of the reincarnation of the man who she once loved.]]
* BlueBlood: As Lianne Sandlot, she was a Countess who ruled Lohengrin Castle and Legram, which were then taken over by her retainers of the Arseid Family.
* CharlesAtlasSuperpower: She is able to crush a truck engine simply by throwing her spear from faraway.
* ContraltoOfDanger: One of the most powerful women in all of Zemuria with a suitably low voice.
* DualBoss: In ''Cold Steel III'', you actually fight her and ''all 3 members of the Stahlritter at the same time'' in Chapter 3. [[spoiler:And then in the final chapter, you have to fight against her and '''Demon [=McBurn=]'''. Then in ''Cold Steel IV'', she ends up fighting alongside Osborne and this time, [[{{Foreshadowing}} they're ARCUS linked.]]]]
* EarlyBirdCameo: Along with the other Anguis, she made a voiced appearance in ''The 3rd''.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: She steps in to prevent a swindler from fleeing to Calvard with stolen medicals goods following Crossbell's raid by the Red Constellation because she can't stand such a distasteful behavior towards civilians.
* FallenHero: Once she was Lianne Sandlot, a heroic legend of Erebonian history who joined forces with Dreichels the Lionheart to put an end to the "War of the Lions". Over 250 years later however, she joined Ouroboros (a terrorist organization) and becomes one of the highest ranking members of the Society in addition to being one of its two strongest fighters.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: Unlike her DualBoss fight with [[spoiler:[=McBurn=] in ''Cold Steel III'', she's ARCUS linked with Osborne in ''Cold Steel IV'' despite having no known relationship with him at the time. It's a sign that she trusts and loves Dreichels and his reincarnation.]]
* FreudianExcuse: [[spoiler:The reason for her being an antagonist throughout the series? All done out of loyalty towards Dreichels, who in current times has now been reincarnated as Giliath Osborne. She feels responsible for not being there to aid him when he needed it most, aka the death of his wife and near death of Rean, which resulted in Osborne making a literal DealWithTheDevil. She decided to join Ouroboros as a means to an end, and later sides with Osborne himself directly, in order to help put a stop to the curse of Erebonia once and for all.]]
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: One of the nicest member of Ouroboros, and has blonde hair.
* HeelFaceDoorSlam: [[spoiler:After her defeat, it seems like she's going to accept Rean's offer to save her life and join the heroes' side. Then Rufus shows up...]]
* HistoryRepeats: [[spoiler:Her final fate directly parallels that of her student, Loewe.]]
* HonorBeforeReason: [[spoiler:She tells Roselia the reason why Dreichels never told Rose about the curse is because it would have been a terrible and feeble life for someone who is nearly at the end of his life and the problems of man still linger on.]]
* HumongousMecha: In ''Cold Steel III'', she appears alongside the Aion Type Alpha II. [[spoiler:Said game also reveals that she's been the Awakener of Algreion the Silver Knight since before the War of the Lions.]]
* IAmNotLeftHanded: She is so strong that she was holding back '''every time''' we see her fighting. [[spoiler:Not even Aurelia, the then strongest woman in Erebonia at the time, was enough to make her fight seriously.]]
* ILetYouWin: [[spoiler:It's revealed after the fight that despite her kneeling against Rean and Crow, they both note that she threw the fight in order for Rean to absorb Algreion's essence. Unfortunately, she didn't expect Rufus to back stab her at her weakest moment.]]
* {{Immortality}} : [[spoiler:A trait common to all Awakeners as they cannot die so long as their Divine Knights remain. This is how she was able to survive her historic death.]]
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: [[spoiler:Rufus fatally wounds her by running her through with the Gold Knight's sword.]]
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: [[spoiler:After finding Osborne and discovering him married with a child, she finds herself content enough that he is living an happy life.]]
* JeanneDArchetype: As Lianne Sandlot, she was an inspirational warrior and general who lead the Eisenritter to help Dreichels put an end to the War of the Lions and was canonized as a Saint after her purported death.
* JoustingLance: Her weapon of choice. [[spoiler:Even her Divine Knight has one.]]
* LadyOfWar: One of the most beautiful, graceful, and powerful women in the entire series.
* LawOfInverseFertility: [[spoiler:As it turns out, this is the reason why she left Dreichels as she was left unable to bear any children after coming back to life.]]
* {{Leitmotif}}: Unfathomable Force and Aria of the Saint.
* LikeASonToMe: [[spoiler:How she views Rean after spending years looking out for him from afar, imagining him to be the son that she could have had with Dreichels.]]
* LimitBreak: Her S-Craft in both ''Ao'' and the later ''Cold Steel'' games is "Grand Cross." [[spoiler:Also her finishing move when piloting Algreion.]]
* LivingLegend: As Lianne Sandlot, the Lance Maiden.
* MeaningfulName: Arianrhod was a goddess of Celtic/Welsh Mythology with dominion over time, fate, fertility and rebirth. All three of which symbolize reveals of her origins and true motivation. Both also were rulers of a castle of great renown and signifigance(Caer Arianrhod and Lohengrin Castle.)
** Arianrhod also means 'Silver Wheel' in Welsh. [[spoiler:She's the Awakener of the Silver Knight, and is motivated by breaking the cycle of misfortune caused by the Curse of Erebonia.]]
* MetallicMotifs: Lead a group of knights as Lianne and Arionrhod respectively named the Eisenritter (Iron Knights) and Stahlritter (Steel Knights), is known as The 'Steel' Maiden, [[spoiler:and pilots the Argent (Silver) Knight.]]
* MysteriousProtector: Briefly plays this role in ''Cold Steel I'' during Class VII's field study in Legram for reasons unknown. [[spoiler:''Cold Steel IV'' reveals that this was because ''Rean'' was there. It's also revealed that she had been secretly watching over him as he grew up, to the point that Osborne actually refers to her as one of Rean's mothers alongside Kasia and Lucia.]]
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: [[spoiler:By not telling Rose all about the curse that's stalking Dreichels, Osborne ends up making a deal with Ishmelga that nearly starts a global conflict all over the world.]]
* OldFriend: To Roselia. [[spoiler:She's the one who guided her to Algreion, her Divine Knight, a few years before the War of the Lions happened.]]
* OnlyTheWorthyMayPass: She serves as this in ''Ao'' where she tests the SSS's conviction and strength under [=KeA=]'s demands.
* PaperThinDisguise: It's quite obvious she didn't even bother to try and disguise her identity as Lianne Sandlot. Everyone who's ever heard about Arianrhod are quick to assume that she has something to do with her past self.
* ParentalSubstitute: She is one for the youngest members of the society and the Stahlritter. She explicitely calls Duvalie her child in ''Cold Steel IV''.
* PhysicalGod: A contender for being the most powerful character in the series. Very few could hope to match her, with Ein Selnate and [=McBurn=] being such people. Lloyd and the SSS were lucky enough to break her helmet when they fought her. [[spoiler:Even after Aurelia Le Guin (a contender for Erebonia's strongest warrior) manages to bring Arianrhod to her knees in battle, it's revealed that she was holding back and only fought with the strength she had as a human when she was Lianne Sandlot.]]
* PoorCommunicationKills: [[spoiler:Because she never told Roselia about the curse and Ishmelga stalking Dreichels for 250 years, the issues with Erebonia continued on.]]
* RedBaron: "The Steel Maiden." And formerly, "The Lance Maiden" when she was still Lianne Sandlot.
* ReligiousBruiser: Technically, since she was canonized as a Saint for her role in the War of the Lions.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: From a chronological standpoint, she's well over 250 years old despite looking like a young woman in her early twenties.
* TheReveal: ''Cold Steel IV'' reveals the reason why she joined with Ouroboros without saying anything to Roselia for twenty years: [[spoiler:she's been looking out for Osborne ever since she found Dreichels' reincarnation. Then tragedy struck towards Osborne's life which she then takes it upon herself to help out Osborne get rid of the curse for good. Roselia did not take it well when she finds out about it.]]
* SingleTargetSexuality: In all of her centuries-long life, she never loved anyone but Dreichels. [[spoiler:To the point that her feelings even extend to his reincarnation in Osborne.]]
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: [[spoiler:The only female Awakener of the seven Awakeners. She's also the oldest of them all.]]
* StarCrossedLovers: With Dreichels. Both fell in love and had sworn to live with each other after the "War of the Lions" ended, but circumstances such as her "death" prevented that from ever happening. [[spoiler:It turns out that she left him due to her inability to have children after coming back to life. She clearly regrets this however as by the time Dreichels reincarnates as Osborne she once again has a desire to be with him. Unfortunately for her she missed her chance since Osborne had already married Kasia and had a son with her (Rean) by the time Lianne finds him.]]
* TakeUpMySword: [[spoiler:Or rather her name, as Lianne asks Laura to continue the tradition of having the initial letter "S." in the Arseid line as one of her last wishes before she dies.]]
* ThatManIsDead: When Laura calls her Lianne Sandlot, she describes that name as an "illusion of the past".
* TheStoic: She is a little bit short on the emotions scale.
* TogetherInDeath: [[spoiler:With Dreichels[=/=]Osborne and Rutger at the end of ''Cold Steel IV''.]]
* TurnsRed: In her bossfight in ''Ao'', when her HP reach a certain threshold, her mask will break and she will stop holding back. [[CurbStompBattle By the end of the fight, her mask is probably not the only thing who is broken.]]
* UndyingLoyalty: [[spoiler:To Dreichels. So much so that she even ends up developing feelings towards his reincarnation in Osborne, and later joined Ouroboros out of a sense of duty towards him.]]
* YouShallNotPass: [[spoiler:She and [=McBurn=] serves as the first opponents guarding the Gral of Erebos.]]
* WalkingSpoiler: Much of the white tropes come from ''Cold Steel III'' and ''IV'' revelations.
* WalkingTheEarth: [[spoiler:After her resurrection she decides to travel around outside of Erebonia for decades until Dreichels' deathbed. Afterwards she then spends the next two centuries looking for his reincarnation out of worry that the curse that haunted him would come back to do so again. It's during this time that she meets the Grandmaster, but it's not until she finds Osborne and believes him to be safe that she decides to join Ouroboros.]]
* WeaponTombstone: [[spoiler:After her death, the Stahlritter used her lance and helmet to make a grave in Crossbell.]]
* WhamShot: [[spoiler:When she summons her own Divine Knight at the Naval Fortress. Even her Stahlritter were shocked and were unaware of its existence.]]
* WhoWantsToLiveForever: [[spoiler:She says as much after she's defeated in ''Cold Steel IV''...]]
-->[[spoiler:It's been a long journey. So long...]]
* WreckedWeapon: [[spoiler:Her iconic lance finally breaks in ''Cold Steel IV'' while fighting Class VII. [[{{Foreshadowing}} Considering what happens next...]]]]

!! Tropes applying to all of the Enforcers

----
[[folder:No. 0 - Campanella The Fool]]

!Campanella
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/campanella_cs3.jpg]]
-->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KanaeIto (Japanese), Creator/ZachAguilar (English, ''Cold Steel IV''), Creator/MaggieFlecknoe (''Sky'' anime)
-->'''Appearances''': ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfHeroesTrailsInTheSky SC]]'' | ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfHeroesTrailsInTheSky The 3rd]]'' | ''[[VideoGame/ZeroNoKiseki Ao]]'' | ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfHeroesTrailsOfColdSteel Cold Steel III]]'' | ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfHeroesTrailsOfColdSteel Cold Steel IV]]''

A young boy who comes to Liberl on behalf of the Grandmaster to observe the progress of the Gospel Plan. Enforcer No. 0 of Ouroboros, known as The Fool.
----

* AmbiguousGender: He looks and dresses like a boy, but his Japanese VA is female and his gender has always been listed as either 'Male (?)' or 'Unknown' in official sources.
* AmbiguouslyGay: Campanella speaks and dresses in a very flamboyant manner, has a female VA, jokes about swapping skin-care tips with Joshua, and even dresses up in drag when hosting one of the (non-canon) quiz events in ''The 3rd''.
* BadassFingersnap: Some magical things he does involve this; [[FingerSnapLighter Burning Gilbert]] or [[TeleportSpam teleporting]] are the most prominent example.
* BalefulPolymorph: He can use True Mirror to transform a character into a strange creature for several turns, limiting their abilities.
* BlowYouAway: His normal attack is a small [=AoE=] razor beam in ''Cold Steel III''. When fought in Chapter 3 of the same game, he can cast the srongest wind arts available.
* TheBusCameBack: Fully comes back in ''Cold Steel III'' [[http://i.imgur.com/5QogXde.jpg without any changes to his appearance]], save for being rendered in 3D for the first time.
* TheCracker: He breaks into the systems of Orchis Tower, steals the floor plans and then locks down the security system during the subsequent terrorist attack. He's forced out of the system by resident PlayfulHacker Tio, with help from Jona.
* CreepyChild: He looks like he might be around thirteen at best but he's easily the creepiest of the Enforcers.
* DeadpanSnarker: One of his major character traits; he almost never stops snarking so when he does, [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness it's significant.]] [[spoiler:Specifically, his demeanor ''completely'' changes and he becomes the soul of respect when speaking to the Grandmaster, even though he was snarking at all six remaining Anguis only a minute previously and goes back to snarking immediately afterwards.]]
* DragonWithAnAgenda: [[spoiler:His job is to observe the various plans Ouroboros has in motion in order to provide a firsthand account for the Grandmaster. This doesn't always go hand in hand with helping the person in charge of carrying out those plans, as Weissmann learned]]
* EnigmaticMinion: [[spoiler:To Weissmann. He's more of a straight [[TheDragon Dragon]] to the Grandmaster.]]
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Campanella might not be the nicest character in the series but in ''Cold Steel III'', even he thinks that [[spoiler: George blowing up the Courageous with Olivert, Toval, and Victor inside the ship]] was a bit too much.
* EverythingsBetterWithRainbows: He has a new attack in ''Cold Steel III'' called Seven Spheres where he uses seven balls of varying colors to units in an area for seven random strikes.
* IdiotHair: Has two of these. Despite this, he's far less of an idiot and more of mischievous.
* LeaningOnTheFourthWall: On several occasions, Campanella will talk as though he knows he has an audience even when nobody else is present. On one occasion, he addresses the player directly, telling them to stop watching him.
* LemonyNarrator: He serves as the narrator for the Ouroboros Report drama CD and as per usual, he [[FirstPersonSmartass snarks his way through the entire thing]] when he's not LeaningOnTheFourthWall. [[spoiler:Except for when he's speaking to the Grandmaster]]
* TheJester: He is the least restrained member of Ouroboros and will tell other members of the Society ''exactly'' what he thinks of them. [[spoiler:Except for the Grandmaster]].
* LimitBreak: In ''Ao'', his S-Craft is "False Salt Pale."
* ManipulativeBastard: He orchestrated the terrorist attack on Orchis Tower [[spoiler:then "forgot: to mention to the terrorist groups that ''his'' plan called for them to be captured or killed by some of his other catspaws shortly after they escaped.]]
* MasterOfIllusion: He can create large-scale illusions, an ability he uses to screw with the SSS in Ao on multiple occasions. Also, it's stated that most of the flames he creates are illusory.
* MidairBobbing: It's reeeeeally subtle but you can see him bobbing in Ao's battle sprite.
* MouthOfSauron: Generally fulfills this role for the Grandmaster; it appears that only he and the Anguis speak to the Grandmaster directly and even then Campanella is frequently tasked with delivering the Grandmaster's orders and observing the operations of the Anguis and Enforcers.
* MyRulesAreNotYourRules: His bag of tricks includes infinite Arts Reflection until you knock his HP down to 50% and the ability to redirect your S-Crafts from himself to your allies.
* OlderThanTheyLook: Joshua claimed that Campanella was this due to his seemingly unchanged appearance. Campanella jokingly answers he "Never miss skin care even one day".
* PeekABangs: A "showing deception" variation considering his personality.
* PetTheDog: [[spoiler:Ends up paying respects to Arianrhod's death alongside Bleublanc, Vita, Joshua, and Renne.]]
* PlayingWithFire: Although his flames are illusory, the pain is very real.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: His age is officially listed as 'Unknown' and in SC Joshua comments that he hasn't appeared to age a day in the ten years since he last saw him, despite looking like a young boy who really should be visibly older.
* RedBaron: Campanella the Fool.
* TeleportSpam: When fought in Ao, he spends as much time teleporting himself around the arena (or teleporting your party around randomly to mess with your formation or you when casting a line AOE art) as he does actually attacking you.
* TheTrickster: Plays the role perfectly, right down to his title.
* {{Troll}}: Seemingly loves to get under people's skin and almost never acts in a serious manner.
* TheUnfought: The only agent of Ouroboros we meet in the ''Sky'' trilogy who never fights directly. Averted in ''Ao no Kiseki'' and Cold Steel III when Lloyd and co (and Rean and co in Cold Steel) fight him.
* VillainOfAnotherStory: Spent the entirety of FC causing problems off-camera so that Cassius would be too busy to interfere with Ouroboros' plans in Liberl.
* VillainTeleportation: Frequently makes use of this when escaping the heroes.

[[folder:No. I - McBurn, The Almighty Conflagration/Blazing Demon]]

![=McBurn=]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mcburn_sen_ii.png]]
-->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/JunichiSuwabe (Japanese), Creator/MaxMittelman (English)
-->'''Appearances''': ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfHeroesTrailsOfColdSteel Cold Steel II]]'' | ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfHeroesTrailsOfColdSteel Cold Steel III]]'' | ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfHeroesTrailsOfColdSteel Cold Steel IV]]'' | ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfHeroesTrailsOfOrigins Origins]]''

Enforcer number I known as "Almighty Conflagration" appearing in ''Cold Steel II'' as one of Enforcers supporting the Phantasmal Blaze Project. He has some connection to the power sleeping within Rean...
----
* AntiVillain: Really, the only reason why he could even be called a "villain" is because he's working for Ouroboros. Otherwise, his only goal is to have a good fight with someone who can take all of his power. He doesn't even start fights on towns as he knows he could easily burn things. Nor does he fight anybody who is significantly weaker than him unless they attempt to and even then, he holds back for them. [[spoiler:When he finally remembers his true self and mission, he immediately stops fighting Class VII, apologizes for the trouble he caused, gives Rean and Valimar a gift and then teleports away from the place to take care of the problems that he needs to deal with.]]
* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: An Enforcer's number doesn't always correlate to their strength. He's unique in that he's stated to hold the title No.1 while also being the strongest of them all and a possible match for Arianrhod for the strongest in the entire Society. [[spoiler:Played staight when the Grandmaster in ''Cold Steel IV'' reveals that he was once a king.]]
* BadassBaritone: One of the strongest characters in the series, with a deep voice to match in the [[Creator/JunichiSuwabe Japanese version.]] His [[Creator/MaxMittelman English VA]] also uses a lower than usual tone of voice, though not as much.
* BadassLongcoat: A red-orange one that goes with his monicker.
* BewareTheSillyOnes: Sure, he acts lazy, doesn't seem to care about anything going on around him and leaves his allies to fight on their own because it looks like a boring battle but when he gets serious, he reveals why he's considered competition for Arianrhod's place as the strongest fighter in Ouroboros.
* BareYourMidriff: The lower buttons of his shirt are unfastened, leaving his abs and navel exposed.
* BerserkButton: Do NOT hold back on his account as he will try killing you just to make you go all out. Rean finds this out the hard way and was only saved by Sharon who takes the hit.
* {{BFS}}: He has one called of Demonic Sword Angbar which he claims to be paired with Kernvitter, a sword [[Videogame/TheLegendOfHeroesTrailsInTheSky Loewe]] used.
* BirdsOfAFeather: Get along well with Crow, probably as the two of them are slackers and Crow is strong enough to interest him.
* BlackEyesOfCrazy: When he reveals his real power, his eyes turn black with red and gold irises.
* BloodKnight: The only times he every breaks away from his usually lazy demeanor is when he's found an interesting opponent. Then the trouble lies in getting him to ''stop''.
* BrilliantButLazy: Is every bit as powerful and dangerous as his rank and title implies, but usually too tired, bored, and apathetic towards everything around him unless he thinks he's found a WorthyOpponent.
* CombatCompliment: If his opponents manage to withstand his initial barrage, he compliments them and then tries harder.
* CoolShades: Wears a pair of yellow glasses most of the time. [[TheGlassesComeOff He loses them]] after his fight with Class VII before going all out. He does retain them in ''Cold Steel III'' though.
* DesperatelyLookingForAPurposeInLife: Because he was so strong, nothing can really challenge him and longs for someone who can actually make him serious. [[spoiler:In his final battle against Class VII in ''Cold Steel IV'', he finally remembers who and what he is, immediately stops fighting and goes back to his human form. He then apologizes to Class VII for the trouble he caused, gives Rean and Valimar a divine flame and teleports out of there, [[SequelHook taking care of the mess that he needs to clean up.]]]]
* EvenEvilHasStandards: [[spoiler:"Evil" may be too strong of a word here, but the Courageous blowing up was enough to kill his mood to fight, him even going as far as to turn off his SuperMode]].
** When meeting Class VII in Crossbell in the third game and hearing them complain about his BloodKnight tendencies, he claims [[ArrogantKungFuGuy Walter]] and [[CuteButPsycho Shirley]] are even worse than him.
* FashionableAsymmetry: His left sleeve is rolled up while some string is wrapped around his forearm, while similar strings are wrapped along the length of his fully sleeved right arm. A long strand of hair also comes down the left side of his face and lands over his left collar bone.
* [[{{Fireballs}} Fireball]]: Releases a huge one in his S-Craft Incandescent Blaze.
* FunWithAcronyms: [[spoiler:[=McBurn=] is not his real name but an acronym to his real name.]]
* FusionDance: [[spoiler:It's revealed in ''Cold Steel IV'' that he remembers the part where his human self from Zemuria mixed with his form from outside of Zemuria which is why he refers to his mixed self as "All of me."]]
* HamToHamCombat: With Victor when the two finally duke it out during the Finale of ''Cold Steel II''.
* HiddenDepths: He's clearly possessed of a working knowledge of things that only a few characters in-universe (and no players as of ''Cold Steel II'') understand, even though the knowledge doesn't directly serve his obvious interests of [[BloodKnight fighting, fighting and more fighting]].
* HPToOne: [[spoiler:In his final fight in ''Cold Steel IV'', any damage inflicted on him that will reduce his HP to zero will be reduced to one instead and after that, he erects a barrier that prevents any kind of damage dealt by anything. This can be pierced however by having Rean deal the killing blow by summoning Valimar and hitting him with Millium as the sword.]]
* HypocriticalHumor: Claims to not be a fan of one-liner speeches, yet when he finally is able to go all out, he goes all ham against Victor.
* IdentityAmnesia: [[spoiler:He's been amnesiac on Zemuria for decades before Valimar with Millium as the Sword of Demise cuts through his barrier. Once Rean manages to cut him with it, he finally remembers who he is and immediately stops fighting against Class VII.]]
* ImprobableWeaponUser: His weapon ''is'' fire.
* ItWasAGift: WordOfGod claims that Angbar was something that he received from the Grandmaster. And in ''Cold Steel IV'', [[spoiler:he gives Rean and Valimar a divine flame before he leaves. In-game, it fully restores HP, EP, CP, Brave Points, and removes negative status effects and debuffs for the final Divine Knight battle against Osborne.]]
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[spoiler:He gets "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tnu-mwwTE1c The Enforcers Super Arranged Version]]" from the ''Sky'' series as his theme song when he reveals his true demon form.]]
* LetsFightLikeGentlemen: He might be a BloodKnight, but he never does any surprise attacks nor does he continue to fight the other side when they're not at their best. Best shown in ''Cold Steel III'' where after the Courageous blows up and Laura is hit with a HeroicBSOD, [=McBurn=] puts away Angbar and regresses to his old self then starts musing that he wanted to fight Victor again with respect.
* LimitBreak: His S-Craft is "Incandescent Hellfire"[[note]]"Zillion Hazard"[[/note]]
* MarkOfTheBeast: When he releases his full power, his hair and eyes change color and tattoos appear all over his body. While exactly ''what'' is happening is unclear, both he and Rean remark that their power is something from 'outside' manifesting through them. While it's hard to tell with Mcburn, in Rean's case the transformation definitely acts like a SuperpoweredEvilSide at first.
* MeaningfulName: A character with "burn" on his name using fire as a weapon? What are the odds?
* MulticoloredHair: His hair is a light shade of blue/green that shades to pink at the ends.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: When your RedBaron happens to be the "Almighty Conflagration" and you start throwing fire at everything, you would be afraid too.
* NobleDemon: He might be an enemy, but he's at least civilized about it. He doesn't even start fights on towns and leaves the vicinity quickly if the other side doesn't have anyone worth his time. [[spoiler:Then his real personality comes out in ''Cold Steel IV'' and he's not amused that he was being used by Campanella and Ouroboros. He immediately stops the fight with Class VII and apologizes for the trouble that he caused then gives Rean a Divine Flame to help fight against Osborne's Ishmelga.]]
* NoSell: Casting fire on him is useless as he's immune to it and fire is his main weapon anyway. [[spoiler:His final battle in ''Cold Steel IV'' has him putting up a barrier that negates all attacks once players drop his HPToOne. Fortunately, the game prompts players to summon Valimar after a few turns where Millium comments that she could do something about it.]]
* NoShirtLongJacket: Downplayed - he does have a shirt, but it doesn't cover much of his chest.
* NotInThisForYourRevolution: [=McBurn=] shows virtually zero interest in Ouroboros' plans and only goes along with them if it promises a strong opponent for him to fight. Otherwise, he usually leaves his comrades behind to do his own thing. [[spoiler:When Class VII defeats him and he regains his memories, he finally remembers his true mission and goes back to persuing it, with implications that he's done with Ouroboros as a whole]].
* OlderThanTheyLook: He is revealed in Cold Steel IV to be over 50 years old. [[spoiler:His human form that is. His true form might be far older.]]
* OneHandedZweihander: Wields Angbar one-handed whn he uses it.
* OneWingedAngel: [[spoiler:When he finally gets serious, he transforms into a gigantic, demonic being.]]
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Normally he doesn't even bother reprimanding anyone or just doesn't care what people say for the most part but if players bring Emma to fight him at the Infernal Castle, she starts suspecting about her powers till he tells her to stop finishing that explanation although he does tell her that she's right.
* PersonOfMassDestruction: When he goes all out after his boss fight in the second game he starts tossing huge balls of fire all over the place. Revisiting the area afterwards shows the entire stratum wrecked. After his boss fight at the end of the Crossbell Chapter in Cold Steel III, he effortlessly melts an [[HumongousMecha Aion]] into a pile of slag.
* PlayingWithFire: Considering his WeaponOfChoice, this trope automatically applies.
** HavingABlast: A secondary effect of his power over flame.
* PowerDyesYourHair: When revealing his full power, his hair turns blond.
* PowerEchoes: His voice gains an echo when he speaks while in his GoldenSuperMode.
* PowerOfTheSun: He can cast the [[LostTechnology Lost Art]] Sol Eruption. It actually does ''more'' damage than his [[LimitBreak S-Craft]]... which [[ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill was already essentially a one-hit kill]]. And it [[ArmorPiercingAttack bypasses Arts Reflection]].
* ReallyRoyaltyReveal: [[spoiler:The Grandmaster reveals that [=McBurn=] is a king from a different dimension.]]
* RedBaron: The Almighty Conflagration. In his SuperMode, he's known as The Blazing Demon.
* TheReveal: [[spoiler:He's actually not from Zemuria but from a different world and was called to Zemuria.]]
* SatanIsGood: [[spoiler:His true demon form is definitely devilish but when he regains his true memories, he's actually a really chill dude.]]
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: [[spoiler:After regaining his memories in ''Cold Steel IV'', he throws the fight and decides to leave Ouroboros after finally remembering his real mission. He gives Rean and Valimar a gift before he departs.]]
* ShipperOnDeck: PlayedForLaughs in ''Cold Steel III'' where he believes that Duvalie's type of men is "[[ChickMagnet that Ashen kid.]]"
* StatusBuffDispel: Three of his moves cancel any buffs, which also means they're [[UnblockableAttack unblockable]].
* ThoughtControlledPower: He explains his ability to manipulate flames as being this. If present for the final battle, Emma suspects that it is connected in some way to [[ContinuityNod Divergent Laws]].
* UnwittingPawn: [[spoiler:He's not amused that Campanella and Ouroboros were using him after he regains his memories.]]
* VillainRespect: If his opponent manages to make him fight at his fullest, he will give them compliments. He then raises the stakes a lot more.
* VillainousFriendship: Used to have one with Loewe. Nowadays, he strikes one with Crow.
* WalkingSpoiler: He becomes this in ''Cold Steel IV'' due to the revelations surrounding him [[spoiler:not being from Zemuria but from a different world. Or rather, there are other worlds that exist in the series.]]
* WhamLine: His response when asked about where his power is concentrated: ''All of me''. For comparison, [[SuperpoweredEvilSide Rean's power]] is centered around his chest. [[spoiler:The real reason for why he says that all of him is mixed is that according to him from what he can remember, his form from the different world where he came from had merged with his human form from Western Zemuria during the time of the Orbal Revolution.]]
** Unusually for the trope, Rean is the one who delivers this trope as TheReveal for him in ''Cold Steel IV'': [[spoiler:the revelation that [=McBurn=] is not from Zemuria but from a different world.]]
* WhenHeSmiles: [[spoiler:In ''Cold Steel IV'', he flashes one of his most genuine smiles after he regains his memories and congratulates Class VII for holding out against his true form.]]
* WillfullyWeak: Even in his base form, he's already powerful enough by himself and only those who could actually make him ''slightly'' serious are allowed to face off against his GoldenSuperMode. [[spoiler:And even that's not his true and final form.]]
* WorthyOpponent: He thinks of Loewe as one and mentions that since he died he's been unsatisfied with the lack of challenge. While he does think of Class VII as this considering they made him use his SuperMode, at the end of ''Cold Steel II'' he finds one in Victor. In an interview in ''Cold Steel III'', WordOfGod states that [=McBurn=] felt dissatisfied with Victor and he claims that Rean might be able to surpass him. In-game however, after the Courageous blows up, [=McBurn=] calls the fight off against Laura, Emma, and Gaius and regresses back to his regular self and claims that he really would want another bout with Victor. And at the climax of ''Cold Steel III'', he believes that Osborne could actually do it. [[spoiler:In ''Cold Steel IV'', despite Class VII clearly being out of their league against him, he praises Class VII for actually managing to hold on against his true form.]]

[[folder:No. II - Leonhardt The Bladelord (Loewe)]]

!! Leonhardt "Loewe" (Fake name: Lorence Belgar)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/leonhardt_sc_evo.png]]
-->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/HikaruMidorikawa (Japanese), Creator/PatrickSeitz (English, games), Justin Doran (English, ''Sky'' anime)
-->'''Appearances''': ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfHeroesTrailsInTheSky FC]]'' | ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfHeroesTrailsInTheSky SC]]'' | ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfHeroesTrailsInTheSky The 3rd]]''

A mysterious young man wearing [[CoolMask a mask]] who was a member of the Army Intelligence Division. Joshua seems to know him. He's actually Enforcer No. II of Ouroboros, known as the Bladelord.
----
* AbsurdlySharpBlade: His sword Kernviter.
* AffectionateNickname: [[spoiler:Rather than call him Loewe like everone else, Vita refers to him as "Leon."]]
* AloofOlderBrother: [[spoiler:To Joshua. The two would've likely become brother-in-laws had Karin not died.]]
* AllThereInTheManual: The Loewe Monogatari manga published in Falcom's own magazine focuses on him, starting shortly before he joined Ouroboros and covering the events of the series from his perspective.
* AlmightyJanitor: He might be an Enforcer, but he's as strong or stronger than some of the Anguis, including Weissmann.
* AnimalMotifs: Lions, obviously. Olivier even takes the time to remark on Loewe's name.
* ArtifactOfDoom: [[spoiler:Kernviter's incredible power comes at a price: It makes its wielder more aggressive and can significantly alter the personality, eventually transforming its user into a figurative (if not literal) monster.]]
* AntiVillain: He has a very good reason for resenting all parties involved in the Hundred Day War. He fits all the sliding scales, really:
** Noble Anti-Villain: He willingly carries out the destruction of Ravennue Village, but he holds back to minimize the damage. He could have slaughtered the entire population if he tried, but didn't.
** Woobie Anti-Villain: Life has ''not'' been easy for him. Even battle-hardened General Morgan says that Loewe has "stared into the pits of Gehenna with his own two eyes".
** Well-Intentioned Anti-Villain: Genuinely believes the Aureole is the only thing capable of saving mankind from continually hiding from reality and destroying themselves. Joshua convinces him otherwise.
** Villain in Name Only: The only really "evil" things he does are attack Ravennue Village and shoot down the Arseille. Once he runs out of reasons to support Ouroboros he pulls a [[HeelFaceTurn Heel-Face Turn]] immediately.
* TheApocalypseBringsOutTheBestInPeople: He wants to unleash the Aureole to see if people can stop being complacent and forget tragedies when convenient to them. In a way, [[VillainHasAPoint he got his wish]], since many people such as Duke Dunan, the Ravens, and the Fishing Guild turned out to be surprisingly useful during the country-wide Orbal Shutdown Phenomenon.
* AwesomeMcCoolName: Leonhardt, which translates to Lion hearted and just sounds cool. His nickname, Loewe, also rolls off the tongue and translates to Lion.
* BadassBaritone: What few lines you hear in English show that he has a deep, rich voice, in some contrast to his youthful looks.
* BadassBoast : [[spoiler: Following his bossfight ([[ThatOneBoss which is considered one of the hardest fight in the game]]), [[TheBattleDidntCount he just gets up and prepare to face the party again]], while telling them they have no chance of winning]]
--> '''Loewe''': [[spoiler: Only those who have attained enlightenment can hope to match one such as myself. The trial is over. Now comes the execution.]]
* BadassLongcoat: Wears a gray longcoat with a HighCollarOfDoom, and is the strongest character in the Sky series behind Cassius.
* BigBrotherMentor: To Joshua in their youth. Also to Renne.
* Bishonen: Hard to deny he's good looking.
* BoringButPractical: Despite being the Bladelord, he doesn't have much variety in crafts, since he only uses Zero Storm, Body Split, and his two S-Crafts. However, his Body Split craft is more than enough to pin down an unprepared party with extremely powerful normal attacks and Zero Storm has a huge AOE for an impede craft. Not to mention that being one of the few MagicKnight bosses in the game somewhat makes up for his lack of craft variety.
* BreakoutCharacter: Although a very important character to begin with, he proved popular enough that Falcom gave him his own prequel manga [[spoiler:and has kind of sort of brought him BackFromTheDead on multiple occasions]].
* BrokenAce: Handsome, intelligent and powerful. Also completely broken as a result of the Tragedy of Hamel.
* BrutalHonesty: Probably the biggest example in the Trails series. He often has harsh but true words for the party, like when he criticizes Kloe for not fully understanding Liberl's political situation, Agate for being blinded by rage and grief, and Kevin for trying to deny his past.
* CharClone: Let's see: A man with blond-ish hair wearing a mask? Check. Extraordinarily good at combat? Check. Is an WellIntentionedExtremist and an EnigmaticMinion to the BigBad? Check. And he also has a past with Joshua, who's one of the main characters.
* ClimaxBoss: [[spoiler: He is the last Enforcer you fight in the Axis Tower before dealing with Weissmann.]]
* CoolMask: Worn as part of his 'Lorence' disguise.
* CoolSword: Kernviter
* CynicismCatalyst: The Tragedy of Hamel, along with Karin's death were this to him.
* DespairEventHorizon: Crossed this a long time ago after Hamel.
* DragonRider: [[spoiler:He briefly rides Ragnard in SC when the Ancient Dragon is being controlled by one of the Gospel devices and consciously tries to minimize the damage caused as he gathers the data Weissmann needs.]]
* DoppelGangerAttack: He creates many, many clones that can attack you (or summon another clone) and don't disappear until you defeat all of them normally or you defeat the real one.
* DualBoss: [[spoiler:A copy of him forms a tag-team with a copy of Cassius in the Nightmare Arena.]]
* EmotionSuppression: His aloof attitude is entirely a conscious choice on his part [[spoiler:in order to supress the [[PowerAtAPrice dangerous side-effects]] of his sword]]
* TheFettered: His combination of a code of chivalry and his emotional repression mean that he isn't nearly as powerful as he ''could'' be. The flip side is that this makes him a much better person.
* FreudianExcuse: His home town of Hamel was wiped out, resulting in the death of his fiancee Karin and his surrogate little brother ending up a traumatised EmptyShell. Then he learned it was actually his country's government that ordered his home's destruction, which then swept the whole thing under the rug. All of this, completely shattered his faith in humanity and resulted in him seeking out Aureole to see if they still had worth.
* FromNobodyToNightmare: Started off as just some guy from some minor village dreaming to become a Bracer. After the Tragedy of Hamel, he joined Ouroboros and became one of the strongest members, who helped bring Liberl to its knees.
* GoOutWithASmile: Dies at the end of the game with a smile on his face, finally figuring out what Karin felt like when she died.
* HeelFaceDoorSlam: [[spoiler:Shortly after deciding to help Joshua take down Ouroboros, he gets injured by Weissmann. Shortly after that he is fatally wounded while helping the party fight the Aureole-empowered Angel Weissmann. He manages to go out in ''style''.]]
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:Even though he's still injured from Weissmann's earlier attack, he shows up in time to break Weissmann's barrier, though he's hit by a fatal point blank attack.]]
* HeterosexualLifePartners: He used to have this relation with [=McBurn=].
* HopeSpot: [[spoiler:After his HeelFaceTurn, he considers reigniting his dream of becoming a bracer, only to sacrifice himself to stop Weissmann.]]
* {{Hypocrite}}: [[spoiler:Joshua points out that Loewe denies that Karin's sacrifice counts as an example of humanity's worth. Realizing this cause Loewe to have a minor VillainousBreakdown and then a HeelFaceTurn.]]
* IAmNotLeftHanded[=/=]JustToyingWithThem: He's the first of many bosses in the series to go easy on the party during the in-game battle, only to reveal his true strength during the next cutscene.
* ItWasAGift: [[spoiler:How Loewe acquired Kernviter in the first place; it was a gift from the Grandmaster.]]
** Expanded upon in Loewe Monogatari. [[spoiler:After breaking the first sword he was using (an ordinary saber) Arianrhod actually makes the offer, knowing about the blade. The two then approach the Grandmaster together and Loewe is granted the sword after he accepts the consequences of using it]]
* LightningBruiser: In SC, all of his stats are very high compared to all the other bosses, especially his STR and SPD.
* LimitBreak: In all 3 ''Sky'' games, he has the S-Craft "Demon Flames." The latter 2 games also give him "Sword of Abaddon."
* LiterallyShatteredLives: "Dead Emperor Sword" involves Loewe freezing the entire battlefield, then shattering the ice (and [[InterfaceScrew screen]]).
* TheLostLenore: [[spoiler:Joshua's sister, Karin was this, and her death in the [[DoomedHometown Hamel Incident]] is the [[StartOfDarkness cornerstone of his motivations.]]]]
* MagicKnight[=/=]MasterOfAll: He's known for being the Bladelord, but he's also a powerful arts user who covers attack, healing, and support. The magic part is emphasized during the battle on the balcony, where he'll spam healing and support arts to win in a battle of attrition.
* MasterSwordsman: It's right there in his Enforcer title. According to WordOfGod, he's the strongest fighter in the Sora trilogy in terms of battle prowess. In Ao we get to meet his former sparring partner Arianrhod. She's considerably stronger, although she considered Loewe capable of surpassing her in time. And in the ''Cold Steel'' series, [=McBurn=] really liked fighting him and felt empty after he died as he couldn't find anyone else to fight against in his full power. All the more impressive since his sword skills were completely self-taught, whereas other examples in the series are either practitioners of a FantasticFightingStyle (Mueller), taught by a legendary swordsman(Colonel Alan), or both(Cassius).
* TheMourningAfter: [[spoiler:Following [[TheLostLenore Karin]]'s death, he never show interest in another woman, despite [[MsFanservice Vita]]'s teasings.]]
* MoralityPet: Joshua [[spoiler:and Renne]] are both this for him and he tries to watch out for both of them.
* NobleDemon
* NobleTopEnforcer: Literally, as it turns out. He's by far the nicest active member of the Society and so much more virtuous than [[SmugSnake his]] [[BigBad boss]] Weissmann that it's not even funny. [[spoiler:He pulls a HeelFaceTurn at the end after Joshua provides him the answer he joined Ouroboros to find.]]
* NotSoDifferent:
** [[spoiler:It's suggested in Loewe Monogatari that one reason Arianrhod thought Loewe could surpass her is because they're similar in so many ways]]
** Also, he thinks this is true of him and Agate. His WarriorTherapist turn in FC comes off as a subtle attempt to ''avert'' this by nudging Agate down a different path and he appears genuinely glad to see how Agate turned out if he's in your party the next time you fight him.
** In the manga, he notes that Richard shares his disappointment that people become complacent during times of peace.
* NotSoStoic: [[spoiler:When Joshua asks him why he doesn't consider Karin's bravery during Hamel to be worthy of answering his trial, Loewe loses his composure.]]
* OddlyShapedSword: Kernviter.
** [[spoiler:His Phantasma counterpart also uses an oddly shaped sword, although there's nothing explicitly special about it.]]
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: You can count the number of people who call him Leonhardt on one hand. Pretty much everybody calls him by his nickname, Loewe.
* OnlyOneName: No official last name given besides the one from his Lorence Belgar alias.
* PrivateMilitaryContractor: Richard first met and recruited him while Loewe was masquerading as a member of the Jester Jaeger Corps.
* RedBaron: The Sword Emperor / The Bladelord.
* RedemptionEqualsDeath[[spoiler:: After he commits a HeelFaceTurn, Weissmann greatly injures him. In that condition, he [[HeroicSacrifice destroys Aureole's barrier using Kernviter so that the party can damage Weissmann]]. Said event ends in his death.]]
* SelectivelyLethalWeapon: Kernviter seems to operate this way.
* TheSouthpaw: While not confirmed verbally, he is seen in most (if not all) artwork and sprites wielding his Kernviter on his left hand
* SpinAttack: Demon Flames combines this with KillItWithFire. He has a new attack called ''Senpuuzan'' in his Alternative Saga appearance which also works this way.
* TheStoic: He almost never displays strong emotion. [[AllThereInTheManual Loewe Monogatari]] explains this. He deliberately set out to ''become'' this (having previously had some rather extreme [[DarkAndTroubledPast if understandable]] anger management issues) because [[spoiler:his sword [[PowerAtAPrice enhances aggressive impulses and is suggested to be able to turn weilders who ''can't'' control themselves into figurative if not literal monsters.]] Presumably this wasn't considered serious enough for the Grandmaster to discard the weapon but it was serious enough to ''Loewe'' that he decided to do something about it.]]
* SummonToHand: It's implied that he can do this with his sword in the games and made explicit in the OVA, where he even throws the sword and then summons it back to his hand in mid-flight.
* SwordBeam: In Alternative Saga, Loewe gets two of these. His new attack ''Hienzan'' creates a wave of [[PillarOfLight energy pillars]] while his nameless charged attack throws an energy blast [[AnimalMotifs shaped like a lion]] at the target.
* TheseHandsHaveKilled: Took his first kill during Hamel, and was clearly sick from it at first. [[ItGetsEasier Not so much the case in the present.]]
* TogetherInDeath: [[spoiler:Implied in The 3rd, explicitly shown in Loewe Monogatari as he and Karin are together and smiling, watching Estelle and Joshua paying their respects at Hamel]]
* UsedToBeASweetKid: Before [[spoiler:Hamel]] was destroyed, he was planning on becoming a Bracer to protect people.
* VillainousFriendship: Clearly cared for Joshua and Renne, and holds strong respect for Arianrhod.
* VillainRespect: If Estelle, Schera, and Kloe manage to beat "Lorence" in Grancel Castle, he'll apologize for holding back and admits Estelle has potential ... right before getting up and taking everyone down with one strike.
* WeaponTombstone : Following his death, Kernviter is put in Hamel alongside the monument to the villagers. The cast of ''Cold Steel'' pay respects to it in ''Cold Steel III''.
* WreckedWeapon: In Loewe Monogatari (but not the original game), Kernviter is broken in the backlash from destroying Aureole's barrier, with most of the blade being completely disintegrated. Joshua leaves what's left on Karin's grave as per the game. It's still whole when the cast in ''Cold Steel III'' and ''IV'' visit his grave.

Enforcer VI of Ouroboros, known as the Bewitching Bell.
----
* AbsoluteCleavage: Goes all the way to her navel.
* BareYourMidriff: Thanks to the above, her midriff is exposed.
* BreathWeapon: At least it looks like this in her Second S-Craft "Hellfire". She appears in (presumably illusion) gigantic form and starts spewing fire on the party. She also has a lesser version of this [[spoiler: in The 3rd]].
* BlowYouAway: Her S-Craft "Tempest Dance".
* {{Cameo}}: She appears as [[spoiler:a fortune teller in the amusement park in ''[[VideoGame/ZeroNoKiseki Ao no Kiseki]]''.]]
* CutTheSafetyRope: Downplayed. [[spoiler:Before plummetting to her DisneyVillainDeath, Schera caught her with her whip. However, Lucciola allowed herself to fall down by cutting Schera's whip. * LimitBreak: Her S-Craft is "Hellfire."
* MasterOfIllusion: Her specialty. She can create many types of illusion (so far revealed are auditory, sensory and visual) with one chime of bell.
* PaperFanOfDoom: Lucciola uses a pair of fans as part of her attacks and as part of her illusion-crafting ability.
* PlayingWithFire: It's illusory with real burning pain.
* RedBaron: The Bewitching Bell.
* SoProudOfYou: [[spoiler:If Schera is in the party for her second battle, she'll compliment her former friend for becoming a successful Bracer.]]
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Her name is often spelled with one C.

-->'''Appearances''': ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfHeroesTrailsInTheSky SC]]'' | ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfHeroesTrailsInTheSky The 3rd]]''

Enforcer VIII of Ouroboros, known as the Direwolf.
----
* AmbiguouslyBrown: As a DarkSkinnedRedhead with a German name who hails from a country with a lot of [[{{Wutai}} Eastern Zemurian]] immigration, Walter's ethnicity is up in the air.
* AnimalMotifs: [[SavageWolves His title says it all.]]
* ArrogantKungFuGuy: Deconstructed according to Zin, who believes Walter would have been even stronger if he had stayed faithful to Taito's teachings instead of blindly seeking power from other styles while [[MasterOfNone never fully mastering any of them]].
* BadassInANiceSuit: Has the fashion sense of a mafioso or {{Yakuza}} bodyguard.
* BareFistedMonk: The most physically imposing Enforcer so far and he does it all with just his fists and feet.
** He does, however, wear [[PowerFist spiked brass knuckles]] over his FingerlessGloves, hinting at his unorthodox approach to martial arts techniques (see above).
* BarrierBustingBlow: [[spoiler:Grancel Castle has a massive double-gate that could hold off tanks. Walter does not care and takes it down with a ki attack. The only reason it takes two hits to break it open was because there were two sets of doors.]]
* BeardOfEvil: A goatee stubble, mirroring Zin's somewhat fuzzy chin.
* BloodKnight: He exposits to Estelle on the joys of fighting and not knowing if this is going to be the one you don't come back from. Estelle is suitably creeped out.
* TheBrute: The muscle of the Enforcers that appear in ''Sky'', as the EvilCounterpart to Zin.
* CoolShades: Or possibly SinisterShades since he's, y'know, an antagonist and a BloodKnight. But they do look cool, [[InvokedTrope even characters in-universe think so.]]
* EvilFormerFriend: Of Zin and Kilika.
* GenderedInsult: He taunts the the party, including Zin, Olivier and potentially Agate, by casually referring to them as "ladies". Later does the same to Grancel's (presumably mostly male) army before beating them.
* HeelRealization: When he belatedly realizes [[spoiler:what his master was trying to teach him when he agreed to their duel.]] We haven't seen Walter since then so it's not clear to what extent this has affected him.
* KiAttacks: Used in part of his S-Craft Ultimate Blow and his regular Craft Razor Bullet.
* KickTheDog: In the OVA, he sees Estelle drop Joshua's harmonica. Rather than simply pass by or pick up the harmonica, he kicks it away from her.
* LimitBreak: His S-Craft is "Ultimate Blow."
* LoveMakesYouEvil: Downplayed. His second post battle dialogue with Zin implies that part of the reason he was upset at losing succession of the Taito style is because he felt he needed the succession to become worthy of his master's daughter.
* NightmareFetishist: In his first appearance, he describes how he wants people to die in a rather graphic manner, and he definitely has the power to make that happen.
* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome: Yin mentions having fought him to a draw in ''Zero no Kiseki''. [[spoiler:Renne]] wishes she could have seen it.
* PetTheDog: In ''The 3rd'', [[spoiler:if you bring Renne to the WolfPackBoss against him, Bleublanc and Lucciola, Walter will tell her afterwards that whether she remains in the Society or not is her choice to make, and offers to train her should she choose to remain.]]
* RedBaron: The Direwolf.
* SirSwearsALot: Rivals Agate as the game's most foul-mouthed character.
* SmokingIsCool: He enjoys his cigarettes, as seen in his S-Craft.
* UnluckyChildhoodFriend: Kilika officially dumps him after his first boss fight because she can't stand how he thinks of romancing her and inheriting the dojo as one and the same.
* WorthyOpponent: Walter seeks enemies stronger than him for the experience and the thrill. Loewe got him to participate in Weissmann's plot by telling him there's another Bracer in Liberl besides Cassius Bright who is strong enough to give him a run for his money. [[note]]It's Zin, although Walter had assumed he meant Cassius' daughter.[[/note]]
* WouldHurtAChild / WouldHitAGirl: The reason for his title.

[[folder:No. X - Bleublanc, Phantom Thief B.]]

!Bleublanc
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/blbranc_sen2.jpg]]
-->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/HiroakiMiura (Japanese), Creator/TroyBaker (English, ''Sky''), Creator/KirkThornton (English, ''Cold Steel''[[note]]Later patched into ''Sky'' as well[[/note]]) (English)
-->'''Appearances''': ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfHeroesTrailsInTheSky FC]]'' | ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfHeroesTrailsInTheSky SC]]'' | ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfHeroesTrailsInTheSky The 3rd]]'' | ''[[VideoGame/ZeroNoKiseki Zero]]'' | ''[[VideoGame/ZeroNoKiseki Ao]]'' | ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfHeroesTrailsOfColdSteel Cold Steel]]'' | ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfHeroesTrailsOfColdSteel Cold Steel II]]'' | ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfHeroesTrailsOfColdSteel Cold Steel III]]'' | ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfHeroesTrailsOfColdSteel Cold Steel IV]]''

Initially introduced as "Phantom Thief B", Bleublanc is a master thief who also happens to be Enforcer No. X of Ouroboros, the Phantom Thief.
----
* {{Ahoge}}: He has a single pronounced hair antenna when going around unmasked in ''Cold Steel''. You shouldn't trust him any more then than when he's masked.
* AllThereInTheManual: An in-universe version in the form of the Phantom Thief B Report, a special publication by the Imperial Chronicle of Erebonia which analyzes his actions and offers suggestions to his past.
* BeautyIsNeverTarnished: Despite his last appearance in SC being of him bleeding after the party breaks his mask ''against his face'', the next time he's seen unmasked he is completely unscarred. Possibly explained by Ouroboros' access to extremely advanced technology.
* BigDamnHeroes: [[spoiler:His entire role in ''Cold Steel IV'' is to rescue the heroes from the villains. A far cry from who he normally is.]]
* BishieSparkles: A part of his 'Baron' disguise.
* CampStraight: His voice and mannerisms are incredibly camp, but see the entry under TheCasanova below, and there are definite IHaveYouNowMyPretty undertones in his interactions with Kloe in SC.
* TheCasanova: Has, on at least one occasion, stolen somebody's wife.
* CriminalMindGames: He loves setting up riddles and watching people struggle to solve them. All evidence suggests that he really doesn't steal for material wealth at all, though for particularly beautiful things he will at least attempt to keep it for himself.
* DoppelgangerAttack: He can clone himself during battle while also [[TeleportSpam teleporting each time he's making one]], and each of the clone can attack you. Once you hit the real one though, all the remaining fakes disappear until he makes another set.
* EarlyBirdCameo: While the first time Estelle and company knowingly meet him is chapter one of SC, Estelle and Kloe had unknowingly met him while in disguise a couple times in chapter two of FC. [[spoiler:He's this again in ''Cold Steel IV'' where he actually shows up in ''Cold Steel III'' as a sidequest in chapter 3 but it isn't even his usual modus operandi although it is consistent with his shtick of appreciating beauty in general.]]
* EnemyMine: [[spoiler:His stance in ''Cold Steel IV'' with the heroes. He's still with Ouroboros but he a least stays out of Rean's way and actually ends up helping them a few times.]]
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: In ''VideoGame/ZeroNoKiseki'', he thanks Lloyd and his party for [[spoiler:helping out Renne]]. And as revealed in ''Cold Steel III'', he was pretty close with Vita which is why [[spoiler: when she went against Ouroboros for siding with the gnomes, he also decided not to partake in the recapture of the "Phantasmal Blaze Plan". In fact, he's not even fought in ''Cold Steel IV''; he's ''an ally instead''.]]
* EvilCounterpart: He's presented as one to Olivier, who disagrees with his definition of "beauty". They both share the trait of being extremely flowery in their manners of speaking; they both annoy the party, albeit in different ways.
* {{Expy}}: Of Literature/ArseneLupin.
* GracefulLoser: He accepts his final defeat and acknowledges the strengths of Estelle and her party before leaving.
* GrailInTheGarbage: Many of the things of "beauty" he steals are things that he considers underappreciated, so he takes them takes them away and leaves them somewhere they will be appreciated more. Examples include artwork that had been left unviewed in a museum's storage area for years and a TrophyWife. [[spoiler:Or as of ''Cold Steel III'' because of TheReveal in ''Cold Steel IV'', a logbook of a pirate instead of the more valuable quartz New Class VII keeps.]]
* HiddenDepths: He apparently has enough expertise in singing to partake in a duet with [[spoiler:Vita, a world-famous opera singer,]] in ''Cold Steel IV''
* HPToOne: His S-Craft Death Magic in ''Cold Steel II'' will decrease target's HP to one as well as inflict poison. It fortunately is a single-target attack.
* ImpossibleThief: His specialty. Highlights include stealing a prototype tank from the middle of a highly-guarded army base, a statue from Crossbell's city hall and his ultimate goal in FC and SC: [[spoiler:"Hope".]]
* JustLikeRobinHood: He's noted to be popular in the Empire, partially because of how awesomely crazy some of his thefts are and partially because the poor tend to find themselves with free money after 'B' has stolen something. The authors of the Phantom Thief B Report caution the readers not to romanticize him since he's still a thief.
* LargeHam
** HamToHamCombat: His encounters with Olivier more or less turn into this.
* LaughablyEvil: He's one of the more amusing members of Ouroboros, especially when he makes the party go through his sidequests and exasperates them with his audacious means of hiding clues.
* LimitBreak: His S-Craft, in both the ''Sky'' and ''Cold Steel'' games, is "Death Magic."
* MagicStaff: The first unit shown in the series to use one in combat. It can be changed into a sword in the middle of his S-Craft.
* MasterOfDisguise: So much so. He has disguised himself as random passers-by, a person investigating one of his thefts and at his most audacious [[spoiler:as a member of your party. Although as Rean points out in ''Cold Steel IV'', he can't change his gender which is why Rean ends up clearing him when someone else is doing his shtick.]]
* MultipleChoicePast: The Phantom Thief B Report examines three individuals who may or may not be the man behind the mask. These include: a womanizing thief and con artist who was last seen escaping from prison dubbed "X"; a former painter/forger gone missing after suffering a tragic loss (whose forgeries B is in the habit of tracking down and destroying) dubbed "Y"; and a perpetually bored, noble-born martial artist with combat skills somewhat similar to B called "Z". The paper is unable to conclude which of these theories (if any) is correct. However, the ''player'' may be able to figure out the correct answer: [[spoiler:Blueblanc sent the paper a note saying that they were getting close, and that "his number reveals all". Given his Enforcer number "X" (which is 10 in Roman Numerals), that would imply that his real identity is that of X.]]
* NotMeThisTime: An entire sidequest in ''Cold Steel IV'' has the party investigate puzzles just like what Bleublanc would normally do. [[spoiler:It turns out to be Mariabell's doing and Bleublanc shows up afterwards.]]
* PaperThinDisguise: In ''Cold Steel'', his 'disguise' is simply to take off his mask while still going around calling himself by his usual name and acting much as he usually does. Of course, he's smart enough not to do it in front of people he knows could identify him and instead jerks around Class VII for his own amusement.
* PhantomThief: It's his [[RedBaron Enforcer title]]. He of course has skills to show he's truly one.
* PutOnABus: He doesn't show up in ''Cold Steel III'' [[spoiler:because Vita is going against her fellow Anguis for siding with the gnomes and supporting a war. Except that it's a subversion and he does show up in ''Cold Steel III'' thanks to him showing up in ''Cold Steel IV'', disguised as a NPC named "Alistair" and it's not even one of Bleublanc's usual modus operandi sidequests though he still does appreciate the lost beauty of an old logbook.]]
* RecurringCharacter: The only character in the ''VideoGame/KisekiSeries'' to appear in every game in some form.
* ShadowPin: He has the ability to perform this in cutscenes using knives and has done it to the player in SC and ''Cold Steel II''. The latter game finally included a means to turn it into a gameplay mechanic but didn't actually give it to him as a combat skill. Both times it happens the party has to be rescued by a third party, via dispelling the shadows in one case and removing the daggers in the other.
* SpotTheImposter: At one point in ''Cold Steel II'', he kidnaps [[spoiler:a member of Class VII]] and impersonates him purely to see if Rean can figure out who he switched places with.
* WorthyOpponent: Considers Olivier to be his.

A young girl that Estelle and company encounter during ''SC''. She seems sweet enough, but there's something... off about her at times. She turns out to have quite a few secrets... like turning out to be the murderous tool of Ouroboros.
----
* AbusiveParents: [[spoiler:They sold her to a brothel to cover the cost of a business mistake. When she was ''five''.]]
** [[spoiler:Well, that's how she saw it, but there turns out to be more to the story. When Renne was a child, her parents were burdened with debt, and found themselves constantly on the run from collectors and feared the eventual involvement of TheMafia. To keep Renne safe while they tried to pay off the debt, they entrusted the care of Renne to a friend. A year later, once the debt was resolved, they returned to pick up Renne, only to learn that the friend's house was destroyed in an unsolved arson (Renne was among the children kidnapped by the D∴G Cult and was given to the brothel). Renne's parents mistakenly presumed her dead, and were almost DrivenToSuicide at losing their daughter; only the discovery that they were pregnant with Colin (Renne's little brother) encouraged them to keep on living. In summary, her parents ''never'' meant to harm her and had no idea what she had went through all this time - on top of that, they turn out to be very decent people in the Crossbell games. Renne finally [[TearJerker learns this for herself]] in ''VideoGame/ZeroNoKiseki''.]]
* TheAce: Magically speaking at least: She has the best Orbment setup possible (one line, no restrictions), the best ATS and her STR is higher than Olivier or Kloe and almost as good as [[JackOfAllStats Estelle.]] Her main weaknesses are her low natural MOV, [[SquishyWizard her horrible HP and her low DEF]] although she still beats the other dedicated casters and Joshua in the latter stat. Also, as an enforcer and a certifiable genius, she's seen as this in-universe.
* AnimalMotifs: Estelle frequently likens Renne to a cat due to her love of and skill at hide and seek, her mannerisms and her ability to get to unreasonably high places despite her size. She even mimics a cat in a rare alternate VictoryPose and [[spoiler:in ''VideoGame/ZeroNoKiseki'' when hacking into the Orbal Network she goes by the alias 'Kitty'. It even extends to her weapons. Her first scythe is called "Nine Lives," and she has another named "Cat Killer."]]
* AwesomeButImpractical: The Gordias-class archaism is an extremely powerful weapon, but Ouroboros has never built more of them after the prototype Pater-Mater because the neural control interface is so difficult to adapt to that every test operator other than Renne has ended up dead, comatose or insane after trying (and given that Renne was ''already'' crazy when they stuck the interface in her, the only thing distinguishing her from the others is that she's still functional).
* AxCrazy: Her real default state of mind; she's the most emotionally disturbed member of the cast by a mile and a half. Even in The 3rd she's a bit quick to suggest scything things as a perfectly acceptable solution to problems.
* BrokenBird: ''Very'' broken. Estelle and Joshua's entire motivation in ''Zero'' is to help her get better.
* BunniesForCuteness: She carries a stuffed animal around with her [[spoiler:which becomes extra creepy when you learn her backstory.]]
* ChildProdigy: It's obvious ''very'' early on, even to the other characters, that Renne is ''far'' more intelligent than her tender age would suggest. She uses this to help Estelle and crew early on in SC. [[spoiler:Too bad the price she was forced to pay for her intellect was ''horrific'' abuse at the hands of D∴G, robbing her of her childhood and turning her into a psychotic killing machine.]]
* CreepyChild: When she stops pretending to be normal, she alternates between borderline insane creepy and outright AxCrazy.
* CuteAndPsycho: Mostly cute even after TheReveal but when the scythe comes out all bets are off.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Renne probably has the hardest childhood of any character in the series. [[spoiler:Beginning at the age of ''five'', she was used as a child sex slave.]]
* DefeatMeansFriendship: [[spoiler:Ultimately how she's brought around; her defeat and subsequent [[VillainousBreakdown epic breakdown]] force her to think about what Estelle and company have been telling and showing her all throughout SC.]]
* DoubleConsciousness: [[spoiler:Renne struggles with her dual identity of Renne the eleven year old girl and Renne the Angel of Slaughter and the girl isn't winning.]]
* DualWielding: [[spoiler:For her new S-Craft in ''Cold Steel IV'', she dual wields scythes.]]
* EarnYourHappyEnding: [[spoiler:It took three games but by the end of ''VideoGame/ZeroNoKiseki'', Renne finally has a family and a place to call home.]]
* ElegantGothicLolita: That is one frilly dress she wears, and she even carries a little stuffed black rabbit around with her. In the latter parts of ''SC'' and especially ''The 3rd'', this serves to drive up the creepy factor around her character a good deal. By the time she's a teenager in ''Cold Steel IV'', where she loses the stuffed animal and trades her dress in for a more normal outfit.
* EnfantTerrible: She's a cute girl around 11-12 years of age who also happens to be known as [[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast "The Angel of Slaughter"]].
* EverythingsBetterWithSpinning: Taken UpToEleven with [[spoiler: her ''Cold Steel IV'' S-Craft, Nemesis Party, in which she pirouettes while twirling around a scythe in each hand to decimate her foes.]]
* EvilKnockoff: [[spoiler:One of the last bosses in ''the 3rd'' is the "Gordias Type-0," which looks like a golden variant of the normally red Pater Mater.]]
* GoGetterGirl: [[spoiler:According to Cold Steel's promotional materials, she's been balancing her studies at Jenis with her job as a Bracer Guild receptionist AND is busy helping with introducing the Orbal Network to Liberl.]]
* HappilyAdopted: [[spoiler:At the end of ''Zero'', by the Brights. Awwwwww...]]
* HumongousMecha: Her partner and form of transportation, the giant [[DeathRay cannon-toting]] Pater Mater who she named herself. This winds up [[AbusiveParents saying a lot about her...]]
* HyperAwareness: [[spoiler:One of the effects of her exposure to Gnosis is enhanced senses.]]
* HyperspaceArsenal: Her scythe is larger than she is, yet she's able to surprise people when she pulls it out on several occasions (particularly Lloyd in ''VideoGame/ZeroNoKiseki''), suggesting this trope must be in effect. The [[AnimatedAdaptation OVA]] makes this explicit.
* IJustWantToBeNormal: [[spoiler:Her ultimate reason for turning away from Ouroboros, as Estelle and crew help her realize that [[GoodFeelsGood being a regular kid actually feels pretty good]], and her life doesn't just have to be dominated by constant battle and murder. She still struggles somewhat with [[AxCrazy just how much she enjoys a bit 'o the ol' ultraviolence]], though.]]
* InterfaceSpoiler: Invoked. During the short time when Estelle and co. have to escort her, trying to cast a friendly spell on her will reveal that she has 10202 HP (at a time when the party members have around 3-4k HP). Also in ''Zero'', during the short time when she's with the party the player will find that she is at level 72 (far above pretty much anything you can encounter in ''Zero'') and has 9999 HP.
* LimitBreak: [[spoiler:Her boss battles in ''SC'' give her the S-Craft "Rennede." She retains it as a party member in ''The 3rd'', which also gives another one that summons "Pater Mater." Finally, her S-Craft in ''Cold Steel IV'' is "Nemesis Party."]]
* ManipulativeBastard: Renne does an amazing job of ''acting'' like a normal (if extremely mischievous) eleven year old girl when Estelle and co first meet her. Then you find out what she's [[AxCrazy really]] [[PersonOfMassDestruction like.]]
* MidBattleTeaBreak: In the final parts of [[spoiler:her new S-Craft in ''Cold Steel IV'']], she inexplicably pulls out a saucer and a cup of tea, taking a sip while [[spoiler:her opponents are being torn to shreds behind her by her scythes.]]
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast[=/=]RedBaron: The Angel of Slaughter, does anything else really need to be said? The original name "The Angel of Extermination", isn't much better.
* NoPronunciationGuide: Her name was the subject of some dispute pre-localization. The spelling of "Renne" suggested a pronunciation of "Ren-nay", but the voice acted portions of the Japanese games went with "Ren" instead. XSEED opted for the latter pronunciation when they localized ''The 3rd'', as well as a throwaway line in ''Trails of Cold Steel''.
* OnlyOneName: She is almost never referred to by her full name, either in-universe or in official materials, and the ''only'' time she acknowledges her last name is when she's jerking Estelle and co around by having them look for her "missing" parents, which required her to provide their full names.
* PlayfulHacker: She's picked up hacking the orbal network as a hobby in ''Zero no Kiseki'' under the handle "Kitty", and it's shown in an event that she can outperform Tio, a skilled hacker in her own right, and Jona, Crossbell's most elusive KnowledgeBroker, ''working together''..
* PrecisionGuidedBoomerang: Somehow Renne is able to throw a ''scythe'' and have it return even after it's potentially struck multiple targets, in cutscenes as well as in battle.
* PurpleIsPowerful: She's an [[SuperSoldier Enforcer of Ouroboros]] with a HumongousMecha companion and an [[SinisterScythe enormous scythe]], is bar none the best caster in the entire franchise and she wears a purple-accented dress and has purple hair. Oh, and her mecha is also purple.
* RedBaron: Angel of Slaughter.
* SelfHarm: [[spoiler:Her arms and legs are covered with self-inflicted wounds. Loewe speculates (and is correct) that it was a means of maintaining some control over her identity while in Paradise.]] If official artwork and her subsequent appearances in later games are of any indication, she has since gotten better.
* {{Sex Slave}}: [[spoiler:She was formerly this at the hands of the D∴G Cult. It explains a lot of her current behavior.]]
* ShedTheFamilyName: [[spoiler:Renne did this a long time ago, which might have something to do with the fact that as far as she knew, her parents sold her into sex slavery at the age of five and she refuses to acknowledge them as her real parents.]]
** [[spoiler:Following the events of ''Zero'', she has a new family and a new name: Renne Bright.]]
* ShesAllGrownUp: [[spoiler:During a flashback from Tita in ''Cold Steel III'', players see Renne sporting the Jenis Academy uniform and a bit taller now.]]
** [[spoiler:And she's been confirmed to appear in person in ''Cold Steel IV'' (see [[https://www.falcom.co.jp/sen4/img/main/ss/ss_03.jpg here]]).]]
* SinisterScythe: Her WeaponOfChoice. According to the drama [=CDs=], Ouroboros made the scythe especially for Renne.
* SpinAttack: Blood Circle
* SplitPersonality: [[spoiler:Renne ''did this to herself'' in Paradise as a coping mechanism. The extent to which any of the other children were ever real is a debated issue in the fandom.]]
* SpotOfTea: Although she sometimes uses the term as an UnusualEuphemism, she also appears to genuinely enjoy having tea parties with Loewe and Joshua. Crossbell Archive even lists 'Black Tea' as one of her Likes. [[spoiler:She also ends up sipping a cup of tea at the end of her S-Craft in ''Cold Steel IV''.]]
* SquishyWizard: In the 3rd, she has the highest ATS and one of the lowest HP and DEF.
* SummonToHand: It was suspected she could do this in the Liberl arc but made really obvious in ''Zero no Kiseki'' where she couldn't possibly have been wandering around Crossbell with her weapon without Lloyd noticing. He's shocked when she pulls it out to fight off a group of monsters. The OVA explicitly shows her doing this.
* SweetTooth: Renne really likes ice cream.
* TeenGenius:
** In ''The 3rd'', Renne is the first person to realize that Phantasma is reacting to the wishes of the characters, within a few minutes of her arrival. She also mentions to Estelle that she writes Ph.D. level theses on multiple subjects (under pseudonyms). And remember that at this point in the story, she's only ''12''.
** In ''Zero no Kiseki'', her hacking skills in the Orbal Network outclass that of Tio, a fellow ChildProdigy that was "raised" in similar circumstances and Jona, a boy who is Crossbell's most elusive KnowledgeBroker. When Tio and Jona teamed up to find her real life location via her "Kitty" alias in the Orbal Network, [[spoiler: she led them on a WildGooseChase, hacked both of their terminals and left behind an email containing a fake address with an attachment saying "Congratulations!". However, as a last attempt to save face, Jona managed to find her real address which is the Rosenburg Studio... which he couldn't believe it because there aren't any cables connected to that area, unaware that the studio's basement has an orbal terminal.]]
** She's smart enough that in ''Cold Steel IV'', a certain [[spoiler:eight hundred year old witch calls her and [=KeA=] cheaters for being smart enough to speed up the search for the missing Rean in just one day instead of the method taking several days.]]
* TheAllSolvingHammer: Once she gets angry or afraid, Renne has a two-step approach to handling the problem: First, she'll try to scythe it to death. If that won't work, she'll call [[HumongousMecha Pater Mater]] to crush, atomize or otherwise maim the problem.
* TheBusCameBack: [[spoiler:She was one of the first few characters teased in ''Cold Steel:The Last Saga'' [[https://i.imgur.com/E0zoTly.jpg and not just rendered as a flashback character]].]]
* ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill: [[spoiler:When Grancel Castle's gate apparently proves impregnable, Renne's idea is to call out Pater Mater to blow the door down, never mind that this would take a good chunk of the castle with it.]]
* ThirdPersonPerson: More common while she's still pretending to be a normal child, but even after her [[TheReveal reveal]], Renne will occasionally refer to herself in the third person [[spoiler: (including one of her voice clips when chosen for the party in ''The 3rd'', where she calls out "Leave it to Renne!").]]
* TookALevelInKindness: In ''The 3rd'', she's surprisingly considerate of the party members' troubles, [[spoiler:as shown when Joshua has to face a copy of Loewe in the Farewell Arena]]. This is in contrast to her more selfish behavior in ''SC''.
* TroublingUnchildlikeBehavior: Motivates Estelle's interactions with Renne because [[ShapedLikeItself eleven year olds should act like eleven year olds]], not like AxCrazy killers.
* {{Tsundere}}: Played mostly for drama in ''The 3rd''. Though she still initially acts like an AxCrazy psychopath, as the game progresses it's clear she's starting to enjoy [[spoiler: being part of the party, as she shows genuine concern for some of her party-mates (though she immediately denies it if pressed about it). Her final scene in the game is her running away from Estelle and Joshua in tears, screaming that she hates them... and loves them.]]
* UnusualEuphemism: If a little girl in a frilly dress invites you to a tea party, politely ask where it is and when it is, then make sure to be in another country at the appointed time. Unless your name is Loewe [[spoiler:or as revealed in ''Cold Steel IV'', Arianrhod]], in which case she [[MoralityPet really is]] inviting you to tea, Renne's idea of a fun tea party involves chaos, explosions, and cutting things to bits with her scythe.
* WalkingSpoiler: She appears in five of the nine games in the franchise to date and is a major character in three of them. It's virtually impossible to talk about her without mentioning the twist that occurs about a third of the way into SC.
* WhatIsThisFeeling: [[spoiler: Renne has a hard time processing love and affection, likely due to her traumatic upbringing. Her first reaction whenever Estelle shows her genuine care is unease and confusion, sometimes bordering on outright panic. This is best demonstrated in the final scene of The 3rd, where Renne reacts to Estelle and Joshua's offer to join their family by promising that she will run away, so far and so fast that they will never catch her, before screaming that she hates - and loves - them both.]]
* {{Yandere}}: [[spoiler:Before she meets Estelle, Renne considers killing her for partially causing Joshua's defection.]]

The right-hand man of the former mayor of Ruan, Dalmore.
----
* AmbitionIsEvil: He's willing to resort to all sorts of corruption and crime to get ahead in life, even if it means burning down an orphanage or taking his Alma Mater hostage.
* TheBusCameBack: [[spoiler:Reappears in ''Cold Steel IV'' after how many years of not knowing what happened to him.]]
* ButtMonkey: [[spoiler:To all of Ouroboros, who know that he's Campanella's personal chew toy. He also manages to get himself imprisoned by unintelligent monsters multiple times throughout the events of The 3rd. To add insult to injury, he loses an aerial dogfight to the Capua family, the GoldfishPoopGang of the first game.]]
* CatchPhrase: "I am an elite, damn it!"
* {{Determinator}}: [[spoiler:His boss fight in ''Cold Steel IV'' at Elin has him fight against the party on foot despite them destroying his G-Apache.]]
* DragonWithAnAgenda: Combined with TheStarscream. During his days as Dalmore's steward, he secretly planned to usurp the mayor.
* EnemyMine: At the end of ''the 3rd'', he helps the party invade Phantasmagoria because they're his only hope of escaping Phantasma.
* FutureCopter: He eventually becomes the pilot of a G-Apache, one of Ouroboros' advanced Overmuppets. In one of the arena matches in ''the 3rd'', he'll directly pilot G-Apache rather than fight alongside it like he did in the prologue.
* HiddenDepths: He wrote and published a book called "From Fat to Fit" at some point.
* IFightForTheStrongestSide: Since Ouroboros practically rules the world from the shadows, Gilbert joins them in hopes of getting a slice of their pie. Needless to say, this plan isn't really working out for him.
* ISurrenderSuckers: He has ''weaponized'' this as one of his Crafts. Humorously, it doesn't do much damage, but does debuff the target's strength - [[IneffectualSympatheticVillain by being so pathetic that his enemies lose the will to hurt him]].
* IneffectualSympatheticVillain: He is often defeated in humiliating ways and is treated as a joke by enemies and allies alike despite being part of a nearly [[InvincibleVillain invincible]] NGOSuperpower.
* KickTheSonOfABitch: He's on the receiving end of this trope when his knees are shot at by [[spoiler:the Intelligence Division soldiers]] and when [[spoiler:Campanella]] roasts him figuratively and literally. Of course, he could have avoided all of this if he wasn't ruled by his selfish ambitions.
* LaughablyEvil: His failures are amusing, though he'll still stick with Ouroboros in the hopes of gaining glory.
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QohzIEHmJZk "I've Forgotten You"]] in The 3rd.
* MilesGloriosus: So very much.
* MookPromotion: Gilbert was somewhat forgettable in FC, but then gains minor prominence in the society and an expanded role in SC. In your first battle against him, he is barely more powerful than the mooks with him. By the third battle, he's definitively stronger than other Jaegers, but still weaker than your individual party members.
* RecurringBoss:
** You fight Gilbert three times in SC. The first is a pseudo HopelessBossFight (actually more of a challenge boss), the second is optional, and the final is in the final dungeon.
** In the 3rd, he's the boss of the prologue alongside his G-Apache and he shows up in Sun Door 1 as a minigame boss.
** He also shows up as a boss in [[spoiler:''Cold Steel IV'' and is fought at three times, one of them being an optional boss at Elin.]]
* SmugSnake: Most of his appearances are just a cycle of him getting smug about moving up in the world through illegal means, and then paying the price for his actions.
* TankGoodness: [[spoiler:His DualBoss fight in ''Cold Steel IV'' at Elin has him piloting his G-Apache and accompanying him is an automated Achtzen tank.]]
* TimeBomb: His mines, which he'll set randomly on the map every few rounds.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: According to Dean Collins, Gilbert used to be a WideEyedIdealist who wanted to use his academic knowledge for good. Then he met Mayor Dalmore, who taught him that political power and status are the only things that matter.
* VillainForgotToLevelGrind: He ''claims'' he's stronger than before each time you fight him but he's not really. [[ConservationOfCompetence However, his backup does get progressively better.]]
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: He has a prominent blue hair [[spoiler:that he still keeps in ''Cold Steel IV'']].

One of of Arianrhod's Stahlritter battle maiden sent to oversee Erebonia's side of Phantom Blaze Project in her stead during ''Cold Steel II''. In ''Cold Steel III'', she along with two other battle maidens Ennea and Ines joins Arianrhod in continuation of Phantasmal Blaze Plan.
----
* AlmightyJanitor: She, along with her fellow members in the Stahlritter (and the useless Gilbert), are the only Ouroboros members who aren't an Enforcer. This DOES NOT mean that she's weak in anyway, with both Bleublanc and Sharon themselves explicitly stating that she's just as skilled as one despite not having a number. To wit, she once won a fight against ''Loewe'', though she proceeded to lose 99 times after that.
* ArmoredVillainsUnarmoredHeroes: [[spoiler:She ends up siding with the protagonists while ditching the armor in ''Cold Steel IV''. Played with that she eventually put it back during the Salt Pales.]]
* [[ArrogantKungFuGuy Arrogant Swordswoman]]: Will not miss a chance to boast how strong she is thanks to her mistress' training. ESPECIALLY to Laura, who she mocks by claiming the Arseid school as an insignificant branch school. Though she hastily backs down when the Radiant Blademaster offers to give her satisfaction for whatever grievance she has against his family.
* BadassBoast: She may well be, well... see immediately below, but that doesn't stop her from delivering this line...
-->'''Duvalie''': We may have fought before, but that was a mere taste of what I'm truly capable of. Come at me with all that you have. I am the head knight of the Stahlritter, Duvalie the Swift... ...and I shall defeat every one of you.
-->'''Laura''': WellSeeAboutThat.
* BookEnds: Her first appearance in ''Cold Steel II'' saw her eating in Legram's inn pestering about the Arseid.[[spoiler: Her last appearance in ''Cold Steel IV'' shows her eating in the Imperial Wedding next to Laura.]]
* ButtMonkey: Poor Duvalie is constantly on the receiving end of humiliations, whether it's being abandoned by her apathetic partner [=McBurn=] or repeatedly beaten down (and sometimes pitied) by Class VII. And that's in spite of her surprisingly strong combat capabilities. She can't seem to escape this status in the third game, since her first appearance alongside Shirley has the latter grope Duvalie's boobs. Later on, Innes and Ennea tease her that she might be into [=McBurn=] as the both of them see her together with him. Then [=McBurn=] starts teasing that Duvalie might be into Rean. Yeah, girl can't catch a break.
* CombinationAttack: She loses "Prism Calibur" in ''Cold Steel III'', and instead has joint S-Crafts with Innes and Ennea. One with each of them and one with all three attacking together.
* TheComicallySerious: Seems to be one of the few members of Ouroboros who actually takes her position seriously, making her a perfect foil to her partners, Bleublanc and [=McBurn=].
* ConflictingLoyalty: [[spoiler:She starts doubting her master about the Phantasmal Blaze Plan in ''Cold Steel III''.]]
* ContinuityNod: She appeared as one of mooks SSS fight on the way to the top of Stargazer Tower along with Ines and Ennea.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Duvalie comes across as the overly serious comedy relief, a chew-toy whose only role is to get beaten up by the protagonists and shown up by the more dangerous bad guys. However, she's actually an extremely capable fighter, as Rean and company discover in their fight against her in the Infernal Castle.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: [[spoiler: She was a minor noble from a foreign land until bandits destroyed her village. Following this, she was taken by Arianrhod.]]
* DidntThinkThisThrough: [[spoiler: She intended to leave Class VII after helping Crow in the 1st Rivalry, only to be reminded that she has no means of transportation and no back-up from the Society to leave Bryonia Island forcing her to stick with Class VII.]]
* DoppelgangerAttack: Her S-Craft "Prism Caliber," complete with FlashStep.
* EarlyBirdCameo: The Stahlritter appear without characterization in the Crossbell arc, and before her formal introduction as a character in ''Cold Steel II'', she can be seen sampling Legram's cuisine at the inn, enjoying the food but hating how respected the Arseids are in the area.
* ElementalPowers: Her crafts include elemental slashes that inflict status ailments
** AnIcePerson: Inflicts freeze status.
** PlayingWithFire: Inflicts burn status
** ShockAndAwe: Inflicts paralysis status
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Tells Duke Albarea that she would have gladly gutted him on sight for razing down Celdic if her master hadn't ordered her not to. [[spoiler:''Cold Steel III'' ramps this UpToEleven when she sees the Courageous destroyed in the most anti-climactic fashion and is shocked at it.]]
* {{Fangirl}}: Of Arianrhod.
* GoodIsNotNice: [[spoiler:Even though she mellows out, she keep her temper as a party member.]]
* HairTriggerTemper: As a result of having to play the [[StraightMan straight woman]] so often.
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:She pulls it in the intermission of ''Cold Steel IV'', when she and Crow help Rean escape from the Black Workshop. It carries after the end of the game where it is stated that the Stahlritter did not come back to Ouroboros.]]
* HiddenBuxom: According to Shirley, her bust might look small, but it's actually around the same size as Mariabell's. Though she's apparently still smaller than Ines and Ennea.
* InferioritySuperiorityComplex: While she may have bragged about being equal to Loewe to the SSS, she admits to Rean that she was never much of a match to him.
* InstantCostumeChange: At one point changes from a blue dress to her brown BattleBallgown between camera shifts. While Rean is in the room talking to her. And judging by his lack of comment on the matter, without him seeing anything naughty or being asked to look away.
* IOweYouMyLife: Arianrhod saved her when she was a child.
* LastNameBasis: [[spoiler:When she becomes an ally in ''Cold Steel IV'', she refers to Rean and Crow as Schwarzer and Armbrust.]]
* LettingHerHairDown: One of her alternate skins in Akatsuki no Kiseki is her at the beach. [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fn9rq08u9od31_5.jpg The result]] [[BeautifulAllAlong may surprise you.]]
* LightningBruiser: In her case, it's literal in that she incorporates lightning in her attacks, especially with her S-Craft.
* LimitBreak: Her S-Craft is "Prism Caliber."
* LuminescentBlush: [[ChickMagnet Rean]] manages to make her blush after complementing her for being a sincere woman.
* MasterSwordsman: Once beat the Bladelord in a duel. Granted, Loewe won the other 99 times they fought, but still, being able to stand against the #3 melee fighter to so far appear on screen in the ''entire series'' (Numbers one and two being her idol Arianrhod and Ein Selnart, the First Dominion of the Gralsritter, in indeterminate order) is quite an impressive feat.
* MoodSwinger: Can go from cocky and proud to utterly pissed in a really short amount of time.
* MinionWithAnFInEvil: Pretty much all of her attempts to sound threatening fall completely flat.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: [[spoiler:Asks herself, Ines and Ennea this after seeing what she helped to realize at the climax of ''Cold Steel III''.]]
* NotSoAboveItAll: While she might play the sane woman among Ouroboros, she also has some quirky moments like attempting to taunt Laura about not revealing how similar the Eisenritter and the Stahlritter are in the most childish way possible, only for her to get pissed off at Laura not biting, and for her over the top praising she gives towards her master.
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: Don't let her status as the ButtMonkey fool you into thinking she's weak. She's part of the Stahlritter for a good reason, as Class VII find out in the Infernal Castle.
* OnlySaneWoman: Paired with the apathetic [=McBurn=] and the [[LargeHam hammy]] [[PhantomThief Bleublanc]] puts her into this position by default. And then the third game pairs her with Shirley.
* PetTheDog: Despite grumbling about it, she help Wayne & Jessica in their training by sparring with them and pointing the flaws to improve in their styles.
* PromotedToPlayable: [[spoiler:Becomes a party member in ''Cold Steel IV'', cementing her HeelFaceTurn.]]
* PsychopathicManchild: Ironic given the above trope. If she loses her temper ([[HairTriggerTemper which is often]]) she will throw childish tantrums, whine a lot, and make all kinds of violent threats to anyone in her vicinity.
* PureIsNotGood: As noted above, she is ''incredibly'' powerful, with her strength surpassing even some of Ouroboros's Enforcers, yet is not an Enforcer herself. Talking to her aboard the ''Pantagruel'' will reveal that the major reason she isn't is because the Grandmaster of Ouroboros requires that a person must have some kind of deep "darkness" in their heart to be an Enforcer. After learning this, Rean can immediately tell that Duvalie has nothing of the sort in her nature.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Gives one towards Duke Albarea for him even thinking that she's there to defend him and states that he better be happy she didn't gut him personally.
* RedBaron: Her overwhelming speed earns her alias "Duvalie the Swift."
* SayMyName: [[spoiler:Screams "Master!" in the trailer of ''Cold Steel IV'' as of unknown reasons. Then the game reveals the [[ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice horrifying]] [[HeelFaceDoorSlam context...]]]]
* SailorFuku: [[spoiler:Her DLC costume in ''Cold Steel IV'' has her wearing a white school girl uniform with a black skirt.]]
* SecretKeeper: [[spoiler:She knows her master is Lianne Sandlot. However, she did not knew that she was also Argreion's Awakener.]]
* SpiritedCompetitor: Duvalie is a pretty competitive woman, may it be in swordmanship where a hundred loses against Loewe didn't hinder her motivation or in more trivial topics[[spoiler: like drinking contests.]]
* UnknownRival: She absolutely ''loathes'' the Arseid family for as-of-yet unknown reasons and is always eager to fight Laura when given the chance. Laura doesn't really care and is quite bewildered about the whole deal.
* UndyingLoyalty: To Arianrhod.
* VillainForgotToLevelGrind: Though she's still strong in her own right, it's apparent that by the time of ''Cold Steel III'' she hasn't really improved all that much during the time between II and III. As a result of this the original Class VII members are now capable of standing off against her on even footing with Rean himself being potentially better than her. She's aware of this too, as she goes from looking down on Rean and Laura to treating them like dangerous opponents worthy of her time.
* WorfHadTheFlu: The only reason she loses to Class VII in Aurochs Fort during ''Cold Steel II''was because she just came back from a battle with the SSS in Crossbell without any break.
* WorthyOpponent: She considers both Rean & Laura to be this by the time of ''Cold Steel III''.[[spoiler: Post HeelFaceTurn, Laura becomes her regular training partner.]]
