[[caption-width:96:The Host]]

->"''The great thing about lawyers is, that they make LOTS of copies.''"

-->''Voiced by:'' Christian Potenza

Chris [=McLean=] is the host of the program. He speaks with a "skater" accent. Easy-going and fairly sadistic, he enjoys making the campers suffer and many of the challenges are clearly geared towards this end, saying his trademark phrase "Awwwee-some!!!" whenever a challenge is particularly life-threatening. He clearly has no regard for their well-being, remarking that he doesn't care what happens on the show so long as he still gets paid. ([[EvenEvilHasStandards Despite this,]] [[PetTheDog he cares about the campers/contestants at least a ''little'' bit,]] as shown in ''Haute Camp-ture'' and in the Total Drama Action Special.) His talents include speaking and figure skating. He frequently mentions that he hired interns in the pre-production phase of the show, most of whom apparently died during the process of setting up the challenges.

* ActorAllusion: He has a surfer/skater accent that is similar to [[{{Sixteen}} Jude's.]]
* AssholeVictim: In "Eat, Puke and Be Wary" and "Brain vs Brawn: The Ultimate Showdown".
* {{Asspull}}: Chris is the master of this trope.
* AttentionWhore: In spades. See CelebrityEndorsement and ItsAllAboutMe below.
* AxCrazy
* BadBoss: While Chris treats the contestants poorly, he treats his interns ''worse''.
* BigBad: WordOfGod states that Chris will always be the true villain of the show.
* BerserkButton:
** Hearing anyone mention his age.
** Being interrupted.
** Being corrected.
* BreakTheHaughty: Although he is usually a KarmaHoudini, he occasionally gets what's coming to him. Each season has a trend of him getting hit with some sort of karma at the end.
* BrokenPedestal: To Sierra.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: That's why they pay him the big bucks!
* CatchPhrase: "Awwwee-some!!!"
* CelebrityEndorsement: Chris will put his name and/or face on anything. In ''Revenge of the Island'', he has his own brand of products, including hot chocolate, soaps and conditioners, instant coffee, etc.
* TheDanza
* DeadpanSnarker
* DracoInLeatherPants: In-universe, Sierra's mother has a crush on him. Sierra herself thinks he's an amazing host, only realizing the full extent of his cruelty when he leaves her behind in "Planes, Trains, and Hot Air Mobiles".
--> '''Sierra:''' ''(confessional)'' Okay, mom? I know how hard it is to end a crush, but he's a total JERK-FACE!
* DreadfulMusician: On at least one occasion, he has been shown to be a terrible singer.
* DungeonMaster: His job is to make the challenges ''interesting'', and constantly [[ScrewTheRulesIMakeThem pays lip service to his own rules.]]
* EvenBadMenLoveTheirMamas [=/=] MommasBoy: Implied by Dakota in "The Treasure Island of Dr. [=McLean=]", when she mockingly asks him how many times he'd called his mother that day.
* EvenEvilHasStandards:
** He was genuinely disgusted when Heather read Gwen's diary on National Television. Though this was in the first season, before he TookALevelInJerkass.
** Also, when an actual [[OverlyLongName psycho killer with a chainsaw and a hook]] encounters Gwen, even ''he'' was shocked about that.
** When the cast of season two seem to be about to drown, he is worried while Chef doesn't seem to care. It's clear though that it's because if ''all'' the players die, [[PragmaticVillainy he'd be out of a job]].
** He sure wasn't happy when [[LovableCoward DJ]] made it passed Leshawna because of all the animals he has been unintentionally hurting/killing due to his implied curse.
** Mike calls him out on this in "The Treasure Island of Dr. [=McLean=]", stating that burying someone alive is dangerous, even by Chris' standards.
* EvilLaugh: He pulls off a pretty impressive one in the first episode of ''Revenge of the Island''.
* FauxAffablyEvil
* ForTheEvulz: Before the start of the Yukon challenge, Chris mentions that in the past, he noticed that teams tend to work much harder during elimination rounds. [[ForTheLulz Just because he can]], he promises that every challenge ''COULD'' result in an elimination from that point.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: In the ''Revenge'' finale, he tries to blow up the contestants on the boat... only to blow ''himself'' up because Chef switched the explosives' location.
* IKnowMaddenKombat: His role as badminton player, the Flipper in ''Badminton: The Movie'' in "Get A Clue".
-->'''Chris:''' It's not Badminton, it's Goodminton, Heck, it's Greatminton!
* ILied
* ItAmusedMe: Chris does a lot of stuff just for this. He set up a pit of quicksand on Boney Island, but couldn't believe [[TooDumbToLive someone would actually be stupid enough fall into it.]] [[EvilLaugh Cue the laughter.]]
* ItsAllAboutMe: Chris runs the show, and his personal tastes influence both the challenges and their outcomes at times.
-->'''Chris:''' Hey, it's my show! I can do what I want!
* {{Jerkass}}
** JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: The only reason he ever worries that the contestants might die is because the show would be canceled if they did.
* KarmaHoudini: He ends up getting away with nearly everything he does, aside from the occasional mishap here and there just for laughs.
* KickTheDog: In the Yukon, Bridgette gets her tongue stuck to a pole. Instead of giving her his hot water bottle, he drinks it in front of her, then tosses it aside.
* LackOfEmpathy: One notable example is how he treats the interns. When he unleashed the carnivorous scarab beetles in Egypt, he was standing on top of an intern, who was raising him up off the ground like a piece of furniture. The scarabs begin to crawl up the intern, who was then quivering in fear. The next scene shows all the kids running away, but when we pull back to Chris, the intern was stripped clean to the bone. [[CrossesTheLineTwice He continues to use the intern's skeleton as a footrest later on in the episode, not even batting an eyelash about it.]]
* LargeHam
* MadBomber: He enjoys [[StuffBlowingUp blowing stuff up]], especially so in ''Revenge of the Island''.
** In "Who Can You Trust?", he uses mild explosives as an obstacle in the rock climbing challenge and later in the blind toboggan race.
** In "Bigger! Badder! Brutal-er!", he blows up, with [[RunningGag [=McLean=]-Brand]] explosives, the new contestants' yacht, Dakota's paparazzi entourage, and [[TheCameo Owen]]. Also, he rigs the teams' totems with bombs with 7-minute timers.
** In "Backstabbers Ahoy!", he puts mines out in the lake, with Dakota and Bridgette getting blown up while demonstrating the challenge.
** In "A Mine is a Terrible Thing to Waste", due to pressure from a government environmental agency, he sends the campers into an abandoned mine turned toxic dump with bombs strapped to their backs. After the campers evacuate the mine, he blows it shut.
** However, he did NOT like it when Sierra accidentally blew up the Total Drama Jumbo Jet in "Awwwwww, Drumheller" or when Duncan blew up Mount Chrismore in "Grand Chef Auto".
* ManipulativeBastard
* NoOSHACompliance: He often [[InvokedTrope invokes]] this trope in challenges, sometimes taking it UpToEleven, especially in later episodes of a season.
-->'''Zoey:''' This challenge looks a little unsafe.
-->'''Chris:''' No, it's '''''[[LampshadeHanging totally]]''''' unsafe!
* OldShame: In-universe, Chris was NEVER in a boy band. DON'T ever insinuate otherwise. Nor should you mention his cooking show and the godawful films about talking cats.
* PermaStubble
* ScreamsLikeALittleGirl
* ScrewTheRulesIMakeThem: Chris practically runs on this trope, as [[LampshadeHanging lampshaded]] by Heather in "Masters of Disasters" and Alejandro in "The Am-AH-Zon Race".
* SurferDude: His voice actor is most known for this, and he sounds like one himself.
* TalkingToHimself: In Quebec, his actor (Antoine Durand) is also Owen and Harold. Also, Christian Potenza voices Chris' cousin Jerd in "Newf Kids on the Rock".
* TookALevelInJerkass: He levels up in every season.
* VillainProtagonist
* VillainousBreakdown: Chris loses it when Sierra accidentally blows up his plane.

[[folder:Chef Hatchet]]
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/TDI_chef.jpg
[[caption-width:96:The Scary Cook]]

->''"I slave over a hot stove cookin' dolphin... no appreciation!"''

-->''Voiced by:'' Clé Bennett

Chef Hatchet is the mess hall's chef. Chef is a big, loud, (mostly) silent, tough, intimidating man with a permanent sneer on his face. He is a LethalChef and bares a humorously distorted resemblance to SamuelLJackson or [[{{GI Joe}} Roadblock]].

Aside from cooking the meals, he also assists Chris in tormenting the campers, such as when he dresses up as a spider to scare Leshawna and flies a rickety plane with Owen and Izzy- in fact, he and Chris appear to be close buddies.

He is also known to be good at playing the... HARP?!?

[[hardline]]
* ADayInTheLimelight:
** Twice in season one. First he's put in charge of a boot-camp / military-themed challenge in "Basic Straining", and later he has to host the entirety of "Are We There Yeti?" because Chris was busy attending an awards show.
** He also got more of the spotlight when he formed an illegal alliance with DJ in ''Action'' and Blaineley in ''World Tour''.
** In season four, he had to host "Eat, Puke and Be Wary" because Chris had accidentally gotten caught in one of Scott's snare traps.
* BerserkButton:
** Don't ever get caught in his kitchen, otherwise known as "Forbidden Territory".
** Don't touch or mess with ANYTHING that belongs to him.
* CampCook: [[CaptainObvious Obviously]].
* {{Crossdresser}}
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Fleeting snippets of dialogue imply that he has one. During one episode, he saw Geoff and Bridgette making out and said, "I once knew a love like that," and in the same episode, when he thought he killed Izzy, he said, "Oh no, not again."
* DeathGlare: His default look.
* TheDragon: In many ways.
* DrillSergeantNasty
* DungeonMaster: Twice in ''Island'' and once in ''Revenge of the Island''.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: He was a little shocked when he thought he killed Izzy during the alien challenge.
* EvilChef
* EvilLaugh: Most of the time, he is a [[GigglingVillain Chuckling Villain]]; however, he pulls off impressive evil laughs in "Grand Chef Auto" and "Eat, Puke and Be Wary".
* FanDisservice: Anytime Chef crossdresses.
* [[spoiler:HeelFaceTurn]]: At the end of ''Revenge of the Island''.
* HypercompetentSidekick: To Chris.
* ITakeOffenseToThatLastOne
-->'''Izzy:''' If I can handle hand-to-paw combat with a polar bear... (''chuckles'') I can handle a bald, emotionally-withdrawn cook in a Halloween costume.
-->'''Chef:''' Who you callin' a cook?
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: On rare occasions. Mainly reserved for DJ.
* KickTheDog: He puts Dawn in a garbage bag before catapulting her off the island.
* LethalChef: [[InvokedTrope Intentionally invoked]], most likely by Chris. He is actually a [[RealMenCook competent cook]], usually when the food is for himself and/or Chris, but it's his job to make barely edible slop for the campers.
* TheMedic: One of his secondary roles.
* TheMunchausen: Nobody's quite sure what war he was in.
* PsychoForHire: Enjoys what he does (most of the time).
* TheQuietOne: Most of the time.
* RealMenWearPink: But he wishes they didn't.
* ScaryBlackMan
* SuddenlyShouting: He tends to do this quite often. One example is his BaitAndSwitchComment to Lindsay when she quits one of the challenges in "Basic Straining":
--> "Listen here, you have nothing to be ashamed of... EXCEPT FOR BEING A LITTLE BABY AND LETTING YOUR TEAM DOWN!!!"
