* BelligerentSexualTension: With Duchess Fayette. Even though he frequently insult and bicker with her, he definitely cares about her.

* BelligerentSexualTension: With Vance. She frequently derails him/beats him up, but later admits that she enjoys travelling with him.

A wandering monk who rescued Vance in Pittsboro after the latter was LeftForDead by Benson. He later joined the party to find new challenges, but is revealed to have a much deeper involvement with the conflict than he initially lets on.

* AmbiguouslyHuman: Vance believes him to be [[spoiler:a Kaibutsu Lord, namely Teachy the Discordian]]. That last part was eventually disproved, but his exact nature remains unclear.

* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Kanna is blonde, and is frequently considered very beautiful by other characters. She is also one of the nicest characters in the game, despite initially coming off as suspicious and enigmatic.

* BountyHunter: Was hired as one in Branchville. Most of his involvement in the conflict comes from the fact that the Dukes needed his Bounty hunter services, and most of the obtainable money from the game does come from his job.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He's rude, lazy, selfish and greedy, but he does care for his friends (especially North and Fayette).

* HeroicBSOD: North experienced a massive BSOD after facing Catawba the Perserve Idealogue [[spoiler: when the latter revealed that she had been posing North’s fiancée and that their relationship was a big, fat lie]].

* VengeanceFeelsEmpty: After having his revenge by [[spoiler:killing Duke Greene for the first time]], he stated that revenge is not as satisfying as he thought it would be, and he almos lost his will to live.

* TheWomanWearingtheQueenlyMask: When her father was killed, and she was forced to assume his place as the leader of Burlington duchy, Fayette remains determined to fulfill her obligations and faced Ramseur’s challenge head on.

* AmbiguouslyHuman: Vance believes him to be [[spoiler:a Kaibutsu Lord, namely Teachy the Discordian]]. That last part was disproven later, but his exact nature remains unclear.

* FightsLikeANormal: He is powerful enough to single-handedly destroy an entire army, but apparently holds back in normal fight. See ThatManIsDead.
* LightningBruiser: Has the highest attack, defence and HP, above-average agility, and can randomly stun enemies with his attacks, and one of his strongest weapons can actually deal damage to the entire party. His only drawback is that his skills aren’t particularly useful.

* ThatManIsDead: When Lockhart remarked how Anderson has gone soft for not immediately killing him (when the former stole something Anderson was after), Anderson replies that the man he used to be is already dead.

* BountyHunter: Clifton is another one of Lauren’s bounty hunter, and was tasked to help Vance out in one of his first missions.

* {{Jerkass}}: Clifton’s attitude is even more crass than Vance’s, and he does not have the latter’s redeeming quality.

* OverprotectiveDad: Clifton is an overprotective uncle to Holly. He disapproves her involvement in the quest, and repeatedly attempts to get her leave because he thinks it's too dangerous for her.

* LovableRogue: Holly is a thief – or, to put it bluntly, a criminal – but she is amiable enough that she could befriend the morally-upright North.

Tatum, otherwise known as the Bandit Queen, is the leader of a group of bandits who hides out in Kershaw. She accompanied Kanna to Kershaw Lighthouse when the latter needed to rescue Vance. She has a crush on Anderson.

* WhyCantIHateYou: Even after Duke Greene destroyed her hometown and killed her sister, she cannot hate him due to their past friendship.

* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: The Kaibutsu don’t appear to age, and Ramseur, in particular, looks exactly the same as he did 65 years ago.

* EnigmaticMinion: His goals frequently clash with the rest of his group’s ideals, and he had occasionally assisted the heroes, but he makes it clear that he’s not on their side either. When the party finally meets him, he went out of his way to reveal Ramseur’s [[spoiler:and Marion’s]] plans to them, then tried to kill them all right afterwards.

* FaceOfAnAngelMindOfADemon: Catwaba is almost angelic-looking, having a pair of tender blue eyes and a sweet smile. Of course, being a Kaibutsu lord, she is actually cruel and manipulative/

* ChekhovsGunman: Both Teachy’s human and demon form can be encountered long before he was introduced. His human form is [[spoiler: Alex, the wannabe hero who frequently lingers near Branchville’s pub]], while his demon form is [[spoiler:the strife dragon Vance and North encountered in the Sardinia sidequest in Halifax]].

* TheGadfly: Manteo would go out of his way to annoy the party and make them hate him.

* ChekhovsGunman: She can be encountered early in the game, under the identity of [[spoiler:Iva of the Govan]].

* MysteriousWaif: When she was introduced, she appears secretive and enigmatic, and her affiliations with [[TheOmniscientCouncilOfVagueness the Govan]] and Duke Greene causes both her team mates and the audience to question her loyalty, [[SubvertedTrope but she turned out to be more straightforward than she initially seemed]]: she wasn't lying about her motives -- she genuinely wants to help the heroes, not realizing the darker intentions of her order when they sent her to aid Vance and the others, and her cryptic persona is caused by her lack of social skills rather than a deliberate attempt to keep secrets.
* MysticalWaif: Kanna is a [[ReallySevenHundredYearsOld centuries old]] alchemist who belongs to the [[TheOmniscientCouncilOfVagueness mysterious order called the Govan]]. She's quiet, soft-spoken, and enigmatic to the point that several characters considers her "weird"; and while her alchemical items can utterly decimate bosses, she's otherwise useless in normal battles.

* HeadbuttingHeroes: Vance and Clifton would insult and derail each other every chance they get, and Vance was absolutely disgusted by the idea of hanging out alone with him.
* HiddenDepths: Vance appears to be a rude and foul-mouthed country bumpkin who thinks too highly of himself, but he’s actually quite witty and observant, being able to analyze Duke Greene’s intentions regarding his invasion of Bragg.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He's rude, lazy, selfish and greedy, but he does care for his friends -– especially North and Fayette.

* TheStoic: Described by Vance as being "as cold as ice"

* MysteriousWaif: When she was introduced, she appears secretive and enigmatic, and her affiliations with [[TheOmniscientCouncilOfVagueness the Govan]] causes her team mates to question her loyalty, but she turned out to be more straightforward than she initially seemed: she wasn't lying about her motives -- she genuinely wants to help the heroes, not realizing the darker intentions of her order when they sent her to aid Vance and the others, and her cryptic persona is caused by her lack of social skills rather than a deliberate attempt to keep secrets.

* TheSmartGirl: Having been alive since the first Kaibutsu wars, she is one of the more knowledgeable members of the party, and is quite familiar with some of the Kaibutsu lords.

* GlowingEyesOfDoom: The leader of the Kaibutsu, Ramseur, sports a pair of glowing [[SupernaturalGoldEyes gold eyes]].

* UnderestimatingBadassery: He does not consider the heroes as a threat, especially since Haselle is aiding him, and did not fight them seriously. This bites him back in the ass when [[spoiler:the then unconscious Vance kills her while he was still fighting the others, and that distraction actually lead to his demise]].

* WildCard: His goals frequently clash with the rest of his group’s ideals, and he had occasionally aided the heroes, but he makes it clear that he’s not on their side either. When the party finally meets him, he went out of his way to reveal Ramseur’s [[spoiler:and Marion’s]] plans to them, then proceeds to attack them.

* PragmaticHero: He does most of his good deeds for money, is willing to cheat and blackmail others to get more cash. He does know enough to not cross the line, though.

* OnlyInItForTheMoney: At first. He only agreed to help Fayette because he’s expecting huge payments for it. However, by the final act, he actually offered to aid her for free (as a part of her 21st birthday gift).
* SheIsNotMyGirlfriend: He would adamantly proclaim that Fayette is NOT his girlfriend. A subversion occurs in Severn, where a pixie calls him Roper’s boyfriend, yet neither seemed to mind.

A practitioner of the Kita martial arts, and Vance's best friend. North went missing at the start of the game, and Vance’s quest to search for him led them both to the heart of the conflict.

* DamselInDistress: Kidnapped by Duke Greene twice, and had to be rescued by Vance and the others.

* TheBigGuy: He's the strongest and most physically aligned among the playable character. He uses either an [[AnAxeToGrind ax]] or a [[CarryABigStick mace]] as his WeaponOfChoice and is the only main character with no MP.

* LightningBruiser: Has the highest attack, defence and HP, above-average agility, and can randomly stun enemies with his attacks. His only drawback is that his skills aren’t particularly useful.

* BloodKnight: Used to be one in the past. Lockhart described him as a mass-murdering madman.

An alchemist who belong to the Govan order. She first appeared in Burlington, in which she intervened with the battle between Burlington and Dillon by blowing up the field. She later joins the party after saving Vance and Anderson from Benson and Mauldin.

* {{Bookworm}}: She spends most of her free time reading. She even uses [[ThrowTheBookAtThem books as her primary weapons]].

* LikeFatherLikeSon: Vance's father is as much as a jerk as he is. Lampshaded by Fayette when the group visits him.

* SheIsNotMyGirlfriend: He would adamantly deny that Fayette is NOT his girlfriend. A subversion occurs in Severn, where a pixie calls him Roper’s boyfriend, yet neither seemed to mind.

* NoSocialSkills: He doesn’t really get along with anyone in the group, and prefers to hangs out by himself.

* ActionGirl: She is quite a capable fighter, which is presumable why her bandit underlings respects her so much.

* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Despite his cruelty, Greene appears to genuinely care for his sister [[spoiler:Lucama]], his friend Roper and his lover Castallia, and his final words before his death was to regret for failing them.

* SquishyWizard: His magic skill (Static Bolt) is extremely useful in combat, being able to deal significant damage to the entire party and could inflict paralysis on them – but otherwise, McDonald has very low HP, attack and defense.

* SatelliteCharacter: His sole purpose is accompanying McDonald and providing extra muscle in the quest. Not much is known of his character beyond this fact.

* UnderestimatingBadassery: He does not consider the heroes as a threat, especially since Haselle is aiding him, and did not fight them seriously. This bites him back in the ass when [[spoiler:the then unconscious Vance kills her, distracting him, and leading to his demise]].

The second strongest of the Kaibutsu Lords, who seem to have a very different agenda from the others.

When the party finally meets him, he went out of his way to reveal Ramseur’s [[spoiler:and Marion’s]] plan to them, then proceeds to attack them.

* MasterOfIllusion: She is capable of fabricating images and, before her defeat, would reveal that [[spoiler:North’s RescueRomance encounter with Cary was an illusion she created. The real Cary died before North arrived, and Catawba assumed her form and pretended to be North’s fiancée to mess with him]].

* DroppedABridgeOnHim: He and several of his men were killed by Ramseur when they [[spoiler:arrived at the cult of Zebulun, intending to arrest them all for their ties with Teachy the Discordian]].

* UnholyMatrimony:[[spoiler:With Ramseur]]. It is heavily implied that she bore to [[spoiler:Carolus and Olanta]] through him.

* DarkAndTroublePast: Her entire family was massacred before her eyes and she, too, died during the whole ordeal.

* AmbiguouslyHuman: She is an immortal being alchemistho controls Gargoyles and is a part of an ancient order called the Govan (whose existence is but a myth to most people).

* DatingCatwoman: Subverted. She briefly flirted with [[spoiler:Manteo]] while the group was visiting Thershale, but dropped the idea almost immediately after, when he whispered some horrible stuffs to her.

!!Duke Salem
The oldest of the three dukes, Salem is the ruler of Burlington duchy, and is Fayette’s father. He is also quite well-known for his liberal views, which clashes against Duke Greene’s conservative ideals.

* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: For all his cruelty, Greene appears to genuinely care for his sister [[spoiler:Lucama]], his friend Roper and his lover Castallia.

The ruler of the Beaufort duchy who tends to take the middle ground in the conflict between Duke
Salem and Duke Greene.

* ShootTheDog: He ordered [[spoiler:Anderson to MercyKill him]] when he realized that he no longer has the power or influence to protect the people.
* UnwittingPawn: The events that led to his ascension as king was orchestrated by [[spoiler:his mother, Marion, who intends to use him as a puppet king to control Durham]]. His realization of this fact is what drove him to make the ShootTheDog decision above.

* EmbarrassingNickname:: His mother calls him “Vancie”, much to his chagrin.

* RedHeadedHero: North is the classic RPG hero to Vance's AntiHero. Whereas Vance would try to extort money before he would do anything to help, North would volunteer because it's the right thing to do. He's also much more emotional and passionate than Vance (who, despite his abrasive nature, is actually quite detached).
