* IdentityAmnesia: They lost their memory after Lady Meng made them drink Meng Po tea, and was made to believed that they were a servant of Meng Po Tea named Lycoris instead.

* LineageComesFromTheFather: Their demigod status and position in Kongsang all come from their father, while their mother is merely a human. [[spoiler:{{Subverted}} when their mother’s true identity is revealed though.]]

* PowerIncontinence: [[spoiler:After regaining their memory, the young master inexplicably loses control of their spiritual power and wreck havoc in the Underworld Office by controlling the ghouls and summoning meteors. Lady Meng explains to them afterwards that because their divine spiritual power was too much for their human body, Yizhi had to put a seal on them to protect them, and [[PentUpPowerPeril it caused an outburst when the seal was lifted]].]]

One of the four great chefs during ancient times, the current
Food Deity God, and Master of Kongsang. He’s the father of the young master.

* BenevolentBoss: He gives the Food Spirits of Kongsang a "home" to spend their existence without fear of being forgotten and disappear, and in return he’s well-loved by them.
* CoatCape: He wears his BadassLongcoat this way to show his authority as a god.

* {{Determinator}}: When Yaoji disappeared, Yizhi searched through the realms for her and finally found a lead from her memory as a bird, which was preserved in the Hall of Memory deep in the Underworld Office. They reunited [[spoiler:in the 21st century with Yaoji having been demoted to a mortal.]]

* HappilyMarried

to:

* HappilyMarriedGodsHandsAreTied: He can’t interfere directly when [[spoiler:the young master is trapped in the Underworld Office]] ''exactly'' because he’s a god. If he were seen [[spoiler:bringing the young master back from death]], he would be considered as violating the balance of the Three Realms and stripped of everything he has, from his divinity to Kongsang itself.
* GoneHorriblyWrong: He became a DisappearedDad and made the young master handle most of Kongsang’s affairs by themself so that they can be ready to inherit his title in the future. This however [[spoiler:got them killed in the Kong’s Mansion incident and Yizhi blames himself for it as he tries to personally go to the Underworld Office to get their soul back.]]
* HappilyMarried: He went on a very long holiday with his wife during the main story to make up for the time they were separated by her disappearance, and leaves the matters of Kongsang’s Spring Festival to the young master since they’re touring the mortal realm together in ''Snow of Fortune''.
* InTheHood: His appearances before the end of Chapter 10 show him in his disguise with a hood hiding his face. It somehow hides his beard and his {{Hunk}} physique too.
* MistakenForCheating: Peng Keng and the Realm of Melanya portray Yizhi as an ungrateful man who charmed the goddess Yaoji to get her assistance for the contest and then dumped her for a mortal woman after he became the Food God. [[spoiler:That mortal woman is actually Yaoji herself who reincarnated into a human after unfortunate circumstances.]]

* OutlivingOnesOffspring: [[spoiler:His child was killed at the end of Chapter 8, though averted once they are BackFromTheDead.]]
* PapaWolf: He almost risked his own deity title and the entirety of Kongsang to [[spoiler:bring his child back from the Underworld Office]], and only stopped once Taichi Taro Paste talked some sense into him.
* ParentsAsPeople: He loves his child unconditionally, but is willing to let them go through live-threatening hardships to prepare them for inheriting his title in the future. That said, he is always there to rescue them whenever the situation gets out of control…[[spoiler:until the Kong’s Mansion incident, where things escalated beyond what he expected and the young master was killed.]]

[[quoteright:1000:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/45fb8cd7_4ddd_4a25_9eb9_94f79508e267.png]]

Wife of the Food Deity Yizhi and the young master’s mother. She’s the reincarnation of the goddess Yaoji who lost her divinity after an incident with Peng Keng.

* HappilyMarried

to:

* HappilyMarried AndIMustScream: Yaoji spent her first reincarnation stuck in the form of a bird that hopelessly tried to return to the Empyrean until death.
* EarlyBirdCameo: Though she made her first appearance in ''Snow of Fortune'', Yao Ji has actually been in the game since the start: a picture of her is on the tablet pc in the young master’s Study. Her previous incarnation Yaoji is also mentioned several times.
* ForcedTransformation: Since she didn’t actually die and still kept her memory, Yaoji’s first reincarnation into a bird would be this.
* GoodSamaritan: In ''Snow of Fortune'', she’s heard helping a bullied old lady by asking the bully to apologize…[[WeaponForIntimidation with the sword she took from Yizhi]]. Yizhi’s reaction implies that this is typical of her.
* HappilyMarried: She went on a very long holiday with her husband during the main story to make up for the time they were separated by her disappearance, and leaves the matters of Kongsang’s Spring Festival to the young master since they’re touring the mortal realm together in ''Snow of Fortune''.
* InterfaceSpoiler: {{Inverted}}; In the ''Snow of Fortune'' event released before Chapter 9 and 10, her name was only listed as "Ji", as revealing her full name "Yao Ji" would be spoiler for her [[{{Reincarnation}} true identity]].
* OutlivingOnesOffspring: Her child was killed at the end of Chapter 8, though averted once they are BackFromTheDead.
* NoGoodDeedGoesUnpunished: Yaoji tried to prevent her friend Peng Keng from making the fatal mistake of erasing his name from the Book of Life and Death and violating the rule of the Three Realms, but she was pushed into the Well of Reincarnation during the struggle. This led to her AndIMustScream situation, as well as making her and Yizhi StarCrossedLovers for hundreds of years.
* {{Reincarnation}}: She’s the 21st century reincarnation of goddess [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yaoji Yaoji]], daughter of [[Characters/ChineseMythology the Yan Emperor]] who helped out with the Food Good selections under the instructions of Nuwa and fell in love with Yizhi during that time. Before that, Yaoji was forcefully reincarnated into a bird after being pushed into the Well of Reincarnation.

* UnaffectedBySpice: Befitting the embodiment of "Spiciness", he has quite a skewed perspective on a tolerable amount of spice and considers eating ''5kg'' of chilies a much lighter punishment to whatever the Empyrean would have given the young master.

* BuxomBeautyStandard: Lu Wu certainly thinks so when his first interaction with her is smacking her chests.

to:

* BuxomBeautyStandard: Lu Wu certainly thinks so when his first interaction with her is smacking her chests. She’s also featured on the cover of the "Beauty Magazine" item which is [[HandsomeLech Chili Oil Chicken]]’s favorite gift.

* ApologeticAttacker: [[spoiler:Before he knocks Spring Roll unconscious, he seems unhappy and apologizes to the boy, though it’s unclear if this is genuine.]]

* FairPlayVillain: When it comes to the upcoming Food God selection, Peng Keng has no intention to sabotage either Yizhi or the young master, since he believes that Yizhi played dirty in the previous selection and tries not to become a {{Hypocrite}} by winning with his own ability. All the things he has done to Kongsang so far are just for {{revenge}}.
--> '''Peng Keng:''' "Also, Yi Ya, don't do anything unnecessary. I want to defeat him fair and square! Otherwise, there's no meaning..."
* {{Hypocrite}}: He berates and wants to take revenge on Yizhi because of his betrayal of Goddess Yaoji. [[MistakenForCheating Not only is that untrue]], if one person were to be named for betraying Yaoji, it would be Peng Keng himself who pushed her into the Well of Reincarnation and indirectly killed her.
* LongHairedPrettyBoy: He’s such a beautiful man with his long, glossy black hair that the young master [[DudeLooksLikeALady mistakes him for a lady]] from behind, and only realizes their wrong when he turns back.

* SoreLoser: He couldn’t accept losing both the FoodGod title and goddess Yaoji to Yizhi, so he blames Yizhi for playing dirty and utilizes drastic measures to get his revenge.

* DragonWithAnAgenda: [[spoiler:His loyalty never lies with Peng Keng, and he’s working behind the latter’s back with Ku Wu for a greater plan.]]

* AbdicateTheThrone: He willingly steps down and crowns Shunde Raw Fish as the next Dragon King to allow the latter to go all out in his fight with Tiangou.
* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep: He is usually referred to as just the Dragon King, or "Father" in Shunde Raw Fish‘s case. Only Vermillion Bird calls him by his real name "Ao Guang".
* GoodParents: He’s quite caring and supportive to his godson, and gives Shunde Raw Fish a rallying speech about how there’s no one more deserving to be the next Dragon King than him when he displays HeroicSelfDeprecation.

to:

* AbdicateTheThrone: He willingly steps down and crowns Shunde Raw Fish as GodOfTheDead: As the next Dragon King to allow ruler of the latter to go all out in his fight with Tiangou.Underworld Office, she naturally is this.
* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep: He is usually referred HeelRealization: After Meng Po admits to as just her why she [[IChooseToStay refuses to return to the Dragon King, or "Father" in Shunde Raw Fish‘s case. Only Vermillion Bird calls him Empyrean]], Yama realizes that she has been obnoxious and inconsiderate to Meng Po despite believing the contrary. She makes up for it by his real name "Ao Guang".transferring the right to "punish" the young master to Meng Po and allowing them to be BackFromTheDead per Meng Po’s request.
* GoodParents: He’s HeterosexualLifePartners: She dotes on Meng Po unconditionally, to the point others pick up on it, and doesn’t hesitate to express her affection for Meng Po with both words and actions. Her urging Meng Po to go back to the Empyrean stems from her worry that Meng Po would soon lose the ability to return there and be stuck in the Underworld Office forever.
* HistoricalGenderFlip: Her historical counterpart is [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_Yan King Yan/King Yama]], who is male.
* NotSoAboveItAll: She doesn’t want Kongsang to disappear because it means the three realms wouldn’t be able to get good food. Quite unexpected from the GodOfTheDead.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: She has perfectly good intention when repeatedly asking Meng Po to return to the Empyrean, but fails to consider ''why'' Meng Po always refuses. As such, she comes off as inconsiderate and forcing what she thinks is best on Meng Po when it actually isn’t.
* SarcasmBlind: When asked if she has enough of everything at the manor, Meng Po complains that she’s running out of storage room ''because'' Yama gives her too many stuffs. Yama however misunderstands it and thinks that Meng Po needs more storage space, so she promises to have someone build another later, to Meng Po’s exasperation.
* SheIsTheKing: She’s referred to as "Lord Yama" even though she’s a woman.
* StoicSpectacles: She wears glasses and is normally an IronLady.
* ToBeLawfulOrGood: Yama is in
quite caring a tough spot when dealing with the young master: they’re the child of her friend who died young yet wasn’t supposed to die, are protected by her HeterosexualLifePartner and supportive to his godson, one of her most loyal subordinates, and gives Shunde Raw Fish a rallying speech about how there’s no one more deserving they wrecked the Underworld Office because of PowerIncontinence rather than an intentional act of offense. She initially chooses to be lawful and bring her army to detain and punish the next Dragon King than him when he displays HeroicSelfDeprecation.young master as the damage has already been done, but is later convinced to lessen the punishment.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: While Yama is a strict upholder of the Underworld Office’s rules and order, she is willing to listen and makes exceptions, as shown by how she handled the young master’s case.
