* XanatosGambit: [[spoiler:Her attempt to kill Korra can be seen as this. She's fully counting on the fact that Opal and Jinora wouldn't go down without a fight. If they do nothing, then she can kill Korra and be rid of a potential enemy. If they interfere, then it gives her just the excuse she needs to invade Zaofu.]]

** Kuvira gets very angry when [[spoiler: Jinora and Opal stop her from killing Korra]] and remarks that they had a deal for a one-on-one duel. However, Kuvira frequently lies and refuses to honor deals she makes when it suits her.

* SanitySlippage: He starts the season as fairly stoic and composed, but starting with ''Enemy at the Gate'', his actions and his attitude get gradually more reckless, irrational and angrier. In particular, he seems to really lose his cool when [[spoiler:his father and brother refuse to kneel before Kuvira, with his father [[DisappointedInYou calmly telling him how disappointed he is]].]]

* BatmanGambit: Becomes clear in "Battle of Zaofu". [[spoiler: Kuvira knew Suyin would act first and try to stop her, this was the reason she recommended a temporary truce to Korra. But doing this, she maintains her VillainWithGoodPublicity status by making it appear that Suyin and Zoafu were the aggressors against her army during peaceful negotiations. Lampshaded by Korra after she found out that Suyin and the twins were captured after their failed attempt by pointing out to Opal that people could see it as Kuvira defending herself.]]

** Took down a group of 20 bandits without even leaving her train.

* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: In "Enemy At The Gates", after noticing how [[spoiler:both Bolin and Varrick]] have started to question Kuvira's methods, he gets informed by guards that [[spoiler:the former tried to visit the latter]]. He immediately orders them to [[spoiler:check Varrick's lab, thus discovering their escape]]. And in "Battle of Zaofu", [[spoiler:he insists on Varrick walking him through every step of the process of his work with the spirit vines. It serves a double purpose of keeping Varrick from not working and gives Baatar the information he needs to do the work without Varrick's help. He didn't quite catch on to Varrick turning it into a bomb, but it still played out in his favor.]]

* ControlFreak: Very much so. When something goes wrong, she is [[TranquilFury polite, but angry]]. Taken to extremes in "Enemy at the Gates" where even the ''slightest'' challenge of her authority is grounds for immediate internment at a re-education camp.

* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: In "Battle of Zaofu", [[spoiler:she deduces that Su would attempt to take her out at night, and so ordered Zhu Li to sleep in her bed as a decoy, managing to capture Su and her twin sons as a result]].

* MaybeMagicMaybeMundane: Korra's spirit friend is seemingly able to see her, and she leads Korra to an earthbending fight club Korra couldn't have known about. Korra also reacts when attacked by the hallucination.

* AntagonisticOffspring: He has becoming this to his parents in "Enemy at the Gates".

* BenevolentBoss: Kuvira does not emote, but she is civil and polite of her subordinates. She openly praises Bolin and Bataar in front of others, never taking credit for them or diminishing their accomplishments. She even was merciful to Zhu Li after she begged to be spared.

** Beat Korra in a duel without breaking a sweat in ''"Battle of Zaofu"''. Granted, Korra wasn't in top condition, but Kuvira was still able to curb-stomp her with her earth and metal-bending, and ''dodged every single attack'' from the avatar. During the entirety of the fight, Kuvira wears a smile on her face, and it is pretty obvious that Korra is no challenge to her and that she is merely toying with her. It is only when Korra entered the avatar state that Kuvira got hit... Sadly, Korra wasn't able to maintain it, and Kuvira took that chance to neutralize Korra. In fact, had not Opal and Jinora intervened, Kuvira would have executed Korra on the spot with metal-bended sharp blades.
