''VisualNovel/TheFruitOfGrisaia'' is the first of a [[VIsualNovel/GrisaiaSeries series of visual novels]] by Front Wing. Unlike the later novels, it serves mostly to introduce the cast and is mostly a school based romance with only occasional hints as to Yuuji's true profession and life.

* DrivenToSuicide: [[spoiler:After her dog dies from starvation and the team [[EatTheDog eats it as food]], Komori becomes so distraught about it that she starts "talking to her dog with her dead cell phone" and eats a flower that renders her sick. She eventually hangs herself from a tree.]]

* MsFanservice: She's the character most often seen in the nude, and also the one who minds being seen nude the least - she even dresses in such a way as to accentuate her being the "sexy chick".

* AintTooProudToBeg: In the anime [[spoiler: she completely breaks down and pleads for mercy from Yuuji after he corners her in her office and shoots her in the leg. He has none and promptly fills her with lead.]]

* DirtyCoward: [[spoiler: In the anime, after an angry Yuuji sneaks his way inside her building and blows a hole in her kneecap, she's reduced to shamelessly whimpering and begging for Yuuji to stop. Needless to say, he's not feeling merciful and finishes her off in short order.]]

* {{Ojou}}: She tries to deemphasize it, but Yumiko is quite the sheltered rich girl. She’s prone to flattery, easily startled and has opinions she knows make her a total stereotype like finding the ocean unsanitary. The others also all come from decently wealthy families, but none are nearly as sheltered as her barring ''maybe'' Michiru.

* CaughtWithYourPantsDown: Though he doesn’t appear to have caught on, Yuuji clearly walks in on Chizuru masturbating when he barges in intending to ask permission for the class to go to the beach.

* {{Abusive Parent|s}}: [[spoiler:Michiaki neglected Yumiko at first because she was a girl and thus was unfit to inherit his company, sending her off to her uncaring grandparents without batting much of an eye. However when a newborn male inheritor unexpectedly died, he had no choice but to accept Yumiko as his future heir and he would stop at nothing to make that a reality. Even if it meant breaking her mentally and emotionally.]]

* HateSink: Kiyoka is completely devoid of any redeeming characteristics and easily set up as someone completely hateful. Many people hate her so much that they get the Makina bad end [[spoiler:just so they can see her die.]]

* GirlsAreReallyScaredOfHorrorMovies: She reacts exactly this way when Yuuji drags her into a haunted house attraction.

* {{Bishonen}}: Amane will comment on Yuuji looking similar to his sister Kazuki. [[spoiler:This gets taken to a nightmarish level in the sequel where Yuuji's backstory is revealed]].

* TranquilFury: [[In the anime, after Makina is shot and rendered comatose, Yuuji proceeds to infiltrate Kiyoka's headquarters and calmly unload his gun into her, deaf to her pleas for mercy.]]

* LieBackAndThinkOfEngland: Makina’s advice when she begins stripping off Sachi’s underwear.

* {{Keigo}}: One of the ways that Yuuji drastically stands out against his peers is his use of extremely formal, awkward speech. No slang, no casual speech, all keigo all the time.
