* KnightOfCerebus: (OAV) Things get serious once he appears, and he represents the only real time Tenchi was at risk of dying. Clay and Z have brief moments of tension surrounding them, but they never make the same impression that Kagato did. (Universe) This version fits the trope even better. Things were fairly light hearted until he appeared...he cleanly defeats Tenchi's grandfather, kidnaps Ayeka, and gravely wounds Ryoko. From there, Tenchi is forced into a life or death struggle to rescue Ayeka and save Jurai. Azaka, Kamidake and Ryoko all seem to die [[DisneyDeath but manage to recover.]]

!!Mashisu Makibi
* BodyguardCrush: Elects to work with Misao largely because she loves him.
* LoveMakesYouDumb: Knows that Misao's plan could lead to war with Jurai...and generally thinks that Misao is stupid but puts up with all of that for love.
* IneffectualSympatheticVillain: When you get your behind handed to you by a nine year old [[NewPowersAsThePlotDemands who up to that point had no previous indication of her martial arts prowless]], you've pretty much sunk as far as you can go on the villain scale.
* RomanticPlotTumor: The other half of this trope.
* TheWorfEffect: The main reason for the [[CurbStompBattle easy defeat for Mashisu and her team]] was just to show off how unstoppable the Masaki household has become.
* WhipItGood: Has this as part of her arsenal...among other things. They don't do her any good.

!!Misao Kuramitsu (OVA 3)
* DudeLooksLikeALady: Is often mistaken for Mihoshi if one doesn't look closely enough.
* IneffectualSympatheticVillain: Say what you will about Clay, at least he was fairly effective when all was said and done. Misao is treated as a joke from his first appearance and it only gets worse from there. Even the resident FauxActionGirl gets a good shot at his thugs.
* RomanticPlotTumor: Probably one of the shortest examples. Three quarters into OVA 3, an entire episode is spent exploring the budding romance between Misao and Mashisu. This might not seem like a big deal, but considering that OVA 3 is only seven episodes long and the love reveal distracted from other more pressing plot elements, this definitely fits.
* SissyVillain: Misao actually wears boots with high heels.

* NotSoHarmless: When put against Kagato, [[BigBadWannabe Dr. Clay doesn't seem so dangerous.]] But consider, he manages to capture Ryoko in a far more subtile manner than Kagato did, and could have killed her if his scientific curiousity didn't get the better of him. When the others go to rescue her, Clay isolates them in his maze aboard the ship and they would have been killed by the black hole if [[EleventhHourSuperpower Tenchi's powers didn't manifest themselves.]] Only Washu makes it to Dr. Clay, and she seems to have the upper hand until Zero shows up and enables Clay to capture her. Zero turns on Clay and it looks like the doctor is about to fall prey to AIIsACrapshoot, until he shatters his ring and deactivates Zero. Washu gets completely covered in gel, and only reason she wasn't a green doorstop somewhere is because Zero manages to reactivate herself, due to the power of Ryoko's gem she stole. Yes, Clay doesn't carry himself with the [[EvilIsCool same suave attitude as Kagato.]] But all things considered, he came closer to elminating the Tenchi crew than he did.
