* BizarreTasteInFood: It turns out the grass Liz and Silica were using to make rope is something they eat. Liz and Silica compare the stew they made with it with ''shirodatsu'' / ''niimoji''[[note]] dried and boiled taro stalk [[/note]].
* GratuitousForeignLanguage: They speak in a strange language described to sound warped and distorted, as if subject to several layers of noise filtering. Yui is able to realize that it's multi-layered Japanese based on the Seed Nexus, and is [[TranslatorBuddy able to decipher it to communicate with them.]]
* {{Stripperific}}: Noted to not cover up much skin, to the point that Silica notes that even if the grace periods before she and Liz can get new gear and they're forced to go around in their underwear, they probably wouldn't stand out too much as a result.

* GunNut: All the warriors in the village fight with muskets. When Sinon leaves their village, a pair of siblings gift her with their deceased grandfather's.

A giant red frog residing in the cave the Patter reside in, cutting them off from leaving. Encountered when the group attempts to reunite with Sinon, assisting her and some patter warriors in fighting it in the process.

* AmphibianAtLarge: Is a giant, fire-breathing frog.
* BreathWeapon: It uses magic to launch fire balls from it's mouth.
* MultiPurposeTongue: Naturally, being a frog. It uses it to grab Kuro, and Leafa's attempt to cut just ends in the both of them getting knocked away.
* PlayingWithFire: It's the first enemy encountered to utilise magic, namely a magical circle it creates with it's mouth that allows it to shoot fire balls. Upon defeat, it drops a fire magicrystal that's then given to Yui.
* WallCrawling: It's able to jump onto the ceiling of the cave
* SuperToughness: It has an especially tough, which makes it difficult to do any meaningful damage to it with her musket when it does it's WallCrawling, and she can't use [[GodzillaThreshold Hecate]] due to the angle when it's on the ceiling and it moving too fast on the ground.
* ZergRush: How it's defeated. [[spoiler: After Yui uses a Sonic Leap to knock it down, the rest of the group, with the Patter, attack and whittle it's health to zero, with Sinon finishing it off by jamming her Optical Pistol in its' mouth and firing.]]

A large, centipede-like creature encountered after it pursues Hyme and Argo to Ruis Na Rig. Appears to be a re-skin of the Skull Reaper from SAO.

A Long-Billed Giant Agamid and the first monster the groups' tamed monsters, courtesy of Asuna.

* BewareTheSillyOnes: It's description of a cross between platypus and dinosaur can bring a rather silly image to mind, but it's native to the same area as a Thornspike Cave Bear, which Kirito speculated to be level 10, and proves to be a capable combatant when the group gets into fights. In fact, during the fight to defend Kirito town from Bolan's associates, he's in charged with killing anyone who's ends up inside when knocked off the wall, preventing anyone from opening the door to let their allies in.
* MixAndMatchCritters: "Critter" undersells it in some respects, but it has the head and torso of a platypus and the teeth, hind-legs and tail of a dinosaur.
* OxygenMeter: {{Inverted}} example. Aga will apparently lose HP if he doesn't enter a body of water every so often.
* SilentSnarker: Less "silent" and more "unintelligible", on account of being an animal. After Kirito dramatically announces the beginning of the iron age upon making his first ingot, Aga responds by sniffing it and giving a quack that Kirito can't help but interpret as mocking.

A Lapispine Dark Panther that was tamed by Kirito during the search for Sinon.

* HeelFaceTurn: Very {{Downplayed}}. It does start out hostile, being a wild animal that was about Kirito's group before being fed meat, but is quick to be friendly to them once tamed, allowing them to use his fur for warmth.
* HorseOfADifferentColor: Large and strong enough for Kirito to ride and get to places faster than he would on foot.
* PantheraAwesome: A large panther monster that are said to be dangerous predators by the Bashin Tribe.

A Thornspike Cave Bear that Kirito, Asuna and Alice encountered while searching for materials to repair the log cabin, which they came into conflict with and killed. Respawning later, it's tamed by Silica after the group is forced to draw it out to deal with a group of invading players.

* BearsAreBadNews: When first encountered, it's a large threat to it's high level, the group effectively being BroughtDownToNormal, and [[TheAce Kirito]] accidentally deprieving himself of his equipment. Ultimately, they have the [[GuileHero be creative]] in order to defeat it.
* BearyFriendly: After Silica tames her though, it becomes a lot more relaxed and friendlier, and has no problem letting children ride on her back.
* FlechetteStorm: The "thornspike" in its name stems from it's ability to launch dozens of razor sharp quills at it's enemies.
* MightyGlacier: It's massive, hits hard, especially with it's FlechetteStorm, and it's tough enough to only lose 10% HP to Leafa's Lysavindr, noted by Kirito to be one of the greatest Ancient Class weapons in ALO that should deal great damage even in the hands of a level 1 player. However, it's not the fastest creature.
* SquashedFlat: How [[GuileHero Kirito]] beats it in their first encounter. With everyone holed up in the log cabin and the soon to be made Misha ready to smash the door down, Kirito decides to climb up to a beam above the door and have the girls trade all of the wood they collected to him, before dropping it all on the bear and crushing it under the weight.

A Leaden Long-Tailed Eagle. Originally used by [[spoiler: Mutasina as a mount during her attempted invasion of Ruis Na Rig, it ends up near death and abandoned by it's previous owner during the battle and is subsequently]] tamed by Kirito at Yui's request.

* DarkIsNotEvil: Like Kuro, it's deprives it's name from it's colour scheme, which consists of dark grey feathers, and an even darker beak and set of claws with blueish tints at the sharp points.
* HeelFaceTurn: It initially served as a mount for [[spoiler: Mutasina so she can cast Noose of the Accursed from the air uninterrupted, and initially tried attacking Kirito when he attempted to tame it. With enough persistence however, Kirito's able to pull it off, and it's now on their side.]]

* DeviousDagger: His weapon is a knife, which he uses to sneakily stab Kirito in the gut and wields with a good deal of skill when he and Bolan tag team him.

A female player in charge of the Virtual Study Society. Initially posing as an advocate for a peaceful alliance of players, she's quick to show her true colours by inflicting everyone who came with a unique status ailment that forces them to obey her whims.

* AwesomeButImpractical: When one of her [[ForcedIntoEvil new subordinates]] questions why she doesn't just inflict Kirito's group with Noose of the Accursed and is instead opting towards wiping them out, she claims that it's because it takes too long to cast and the magic circle for it is easy to notice, and she was only able to get away with it that time since she tricked them into thinking it'd provide a buff.

** She also argues that her reason for her use of "Noose of the Accursed" was because she realized that even if an alliance was properly, it'd eventually fall apart as the loss of other threats would prompt the other groups to split up and attack the other. While she's ''definitely'' taking it a step too far, her logic is eerily similar to Kirito's speculations about Bolan's group, who suspected that they would have even betrayed each other eventually to reach the "land revealed by heavenly light".

A race of rat people native to the natural border wall cave. Three of the youngest and supposedly bravest assist Sinon in making her way out before they come into conflict with the Goliath Rana. After it's defeat, twenty of them decide to join a expedition to go live in Kirito town.

* FarmBoy: It's evident that the Patter aren't exactly trained fighters, with their [[WeaponOfChoice Weapons of Choice]] consisting of farming tools like pitchforks and scythes.
