* PromotionNotPunishment: When initially recaptured by the Keepers, Iori is given a promotion in exchange to give Hopes back to the facility. It only lasts for a minute or so before he runs away again.

* VitriolicBestBuds: If he's the protagonist, he'll have this relationship with Hopes.

* DudeMagnet: If she's the protagonist, then her main romantic arc is with Hopes, Celric falls for her, and she gets enough ship teasing with Iori to make Hopes openly jealous.

* ShipTease: If she's the protagonist, then when the members of X-Cross ask if Iori is her lover, she quickly [[SheIsNotMyGirlfriend denies]] it. If Iori is the protagonist, Hopes asks about her impression of Iori "as a member of the opposite sex," which leads to this:

A parrot-like magical creature created by a Dogma. It can understand human speech, and it follows the protagonist on their journey to expand its knowledge. Hopes also rides in Xelguard and acts as support in battle.

* BarrierMaiden: Hopes' true identity is [[spoiler:an "infant form" of a divine beast whose original purpose was to be one of Ende's possible new vessels. But Hopes gained more of a self-conscience during his containment within The Order and [[DesperatelyLookingForAPurposeInLife wished to see the world and learn the meaning of life]], hence his [[TheRunaway plan of escape with the protagonist]]. As he ventured through the war against Ende, he understands he prefers to be fed with the will and emotions opposite of Ende, and hence, decide to [[ThePlan manipulate]] the [[ChronicHeroSyndrome nature]] of X-Cross, along with his divine powers to terminate Ende, and then to preserve, and uphold the world of Al-Warth by becoming their world's highest deity.]]

* EmotionEater: Hopes frequently comments on the taste of the party's emotions during Vault scenes. Unlike many examples of the trope, he doesn't actually ''drain'' the emotions he eats, but he does rely on their presence for sustenance.

* ObviouslyEvil: Nearly every single scene that Hopes is in features some sort of blatantly evil musing to himself: the game lays it on ''thick'' that he's a villain planning to betray the party in some fashion. In the end, [[spoiler:it's all to get even the player to buy into his ZeroApprovalGambit]].

* SpellMyNameWithAnS: His name was intended to spell as "Hopes," but some materials labeled him as "Hopps."

* TookALevelInKindness: Hopes starts off being about as ObviouslyEvil as they come, but gradually starts to mellow out over the course of the game.
* VitriolicBestBuds: If Iori is the protagonist, they'll have this kind of relationship. This is made especially clear on Stage 26, as from that point on, while Hopes will still refer to him as "Master," he stops using formal speech when talking to him, in sharp contrast to his behavior. They eventually end up with approximately the same relationship on Amari's route, though heavier on the vitriol.

* EmotionEater: Unike Hopes, Ende doesn't actually rely on human emotions for sustenance, but likes the taste of them anyway. Also unlike Hopes, he's gluttonous enough to suck them out and leave the victim a soulless husk, and even when he ''doesn't'' do that, his favorite emotions are hate, fear, and anguish.
* FinalBoss: Of ''Super Robot Wars X'''s Normal Route. That being said, in the IF route, Hopes seizes control of his body to become the TrueFinalBoss.
