The "Steel Dragon Battle Group" (''Kouryuu Sentai''; officially named in the ''Second Original Generation'') are the collective protagonists of ''Super Robot Wars Original Generation''. Although there are multiple characters from many different games appearing in this group, those listed here are the ones who debut exclusively in ''Original Generation'' {{Continuity}}.

The [[HeterosexualLifePartners lifetime partner]] of [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Sanger Zonvolt]], Elzam von Branstein is the AloofBigBrother of [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Raidiese F. Branstein]]. He hails from the esteemed Branstein family, HappilyMarried and a SupremeChef. Elzam debuts in ''Original Generation'', but it's filled with a GoodBadBug: due to programming errors, priority for his {{Leitmotif}} was given the highest, thus it always overrides any song, even the FinalBoss. Banpresto took it as a RunningGag and incorporated this "bug" into subsequent games. Although Elzam's one of the headlining generals of the [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsClassic Divine Crusaders]], with the death of [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsClassic Bian Zoldark]], he secretly aids [[TheFederation the Earth Federation Army]] to fight against the invading "Aerogaters". Following the end of the "L5 Campaign", the Earth Federation Army's offensive at defeating the Aerogaters, he and his crew of the battleship ''Kurogane'' vanishes.

Elzam reappears in the sequel, now sporting a [[PaperThinDisguise pair of glasses, calling himself "Ratsel Feinschmecker"]] (erroneously translated by [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsClassic Inspector Vigagi]] as "Mysterious Gourmet"). Once again, he and the ''Kurogane'' crew operate and support the Earth Federation Army in secret. To prove "[[MemeticMutation Real Men Ride Each Other]]", Ratsel's new MidSeasonUpgrade received when liberating the Tesla-Leicht Institute can ''[[TransformingMecha turn into a horse]]'' and have Sanger's own MidSeasonUpgrade mount it (no, '''[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGTlE8w5r_A REALLY]]''').

His debut was popular enough to warrant him a place in the ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsAlpha'' series, ''despite'' appearing first in ''Original Generation'' as his Ratsel persona (which is ''also'' the persona's debut), though he did exist in the background of ''Alpha'' and the earlier, yet obscure ''VideoGame/SuperRobotSpirits''. Still, his first on-screen appearance is in ''Original Generation'', thus he's placed in this category.

Elzam pilots a variety of machines, such as a Guarlion and Huckebein MK III, all painted with black/red/gold colors and called "Trombe", after his black stallion. His definitive mecha is the Dynamic General Guardian "Aussenseiter" ([[GratuitousGerman German for "outsider"]], or less literally, "[[EnsembleDarkhorse dark]] [[IncrediblyLamePun horse]]"). He embodies these tropes:

* AcePilot: A former member of the "Aggressors" (including him, Sanger, Kai Kitamura and [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsClassic Gilliam Yeager]]), a group that had the first use of a HumongousMecha InUniverse. To date, Elzam is still one of the best pilots in the world.
* AceCustom: A Huckebein MK II, Huckebein MK III and a Guarlion Custom, all of them following his [[LawOfChromaticSuperiority black/red/gold coloring motif]]. Although specially designed by Bian for him to use, the Aussenseiter qualifies more as a SuperPrototype.
** Exclusively in ''The Inspectors'', the AnimatedAdaptation of ''Original Generation 2'', Ratsel uses the "[=GuarBein=]" MK III (basically a Huckebein MK III outfitted with parts from his old Guarlion Custom) before receiving the Aussenseiter.
* AFatherToHisMen: He even cooks for them. As a result, the crew of the ''Kurogane'' is fiercely loyal to him.
* AloofBigBrother: As Elzam, he's very good at concealing his emotions, which causes his brother to misunderstand him. His Ratsel persona drops this trope, to the point of being goofy.
** It's possible he adopted the "Ratsel" personality as a means to move away from this trope.
* ArchEnemy: Archibald Grims for Ratsel
* ArtEvolution: Evident in the CoolShades he wears as Ratsel - while they were oblong in the games, they become hexagonal in ''The Inspectors''.
* BadassCape: Aussenseiter has one; in the "Sturm Angriff" attack for ''Original Generations'', the cape is thrown at an enemy to conceal its vision before being blasted to shreds. During the Earth Cradle event in ''The Inspectors'', the cape is used as an AttackReflector.
* BashBrothers: It's a good idea to be part of the good guys' side just to avoid being on the opposite side to him and Sanger. Enemies are unlikely to survive that.
* BGMOverride[=/=] MusicalisInterruptus: [[Pantheon/{{Music}} His trademark]]; in fact, the ''Second Original Generation'' makes it clear players ''cannot change his default BGM to anything else''. However, the games also downplay this as Ratsel is unable to override certain {{Leitmotif}}s such as "[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsDestiny Despair]]", "[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Twin Icon]]" and "[[spoiler:Ultra One]]", as well as the orchestrated version of "Destinies" [[spoiler:and the vocal versions of "Victory", "Skill" and "Wings of the Legend"]].
** Amusingly, the first music track Ratsel was unable to override was because an enemy from the anime ''Anime/GoShogun'' was playing ''The Blue Danube'' [[GameplayAndStoryIntegration with gigantic external speakers mounted on the ship]].
* BigDamnHeroes: His debut as Ratsel is basically doing this to the "[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha2 Project Terrestial Dream]]" crew in ''Original Generation 2''; he also did this earlier in ''Alpha 2'' for whomever is the protagonist in Scenario 31.
* CanonImmigrant: From ''Original Generation'' to ''Alpha''. Interestingly, he exists (sort of) before ''Original Generation'', appearing in [[AllThereInTheManual supplemental materials]] to ''Super Hero Sakusen'' ("Super Hero Operations"). While not directly named, Raidiese recognizes the emblem on a passing-by black mecha as the Branstein family crest. The same applies to the Aussenseiter - it does not appear in ''Alpha 2'', but winds up as Ratsel's machine for the ''Alpha 3'' finale.
* CaptainErsatz: The ''Kurogane'' to the "[[Film/{{Atragon}} Gotengo]]"; naturally, the character himself was created to fill one of the obvious casting holes in the first game (see below).
* CharClone: Primarily more of the {{Trope Maker}} [[TheMentor mentor persona]], [[Anime/MobileSuitZetaGundam Quattro Bajeena]]. He even gives a ShoutOut to Quattro by stating he's "Ratsel Feinschmeker: no more, no less". He also possesses similarities with [[VideoGame/DynastyWarriors Lu Bu]], with whom he shares his voice with.
** The comparisons continue when Creator/TetsuInada also voices another Quattro {{Expy}}, [[Anime/TurnAGundam Harry Ord]]; in fact, one of Ratsel's Gespenst Kick quotes is Ord's {{Kiai}}.
* CombinationAttack: ''Tatsumaki Zankantou'' ("Tornado Battleship-Cleaving Blade")
* CoolHorse: His black stallion Trombe back on his home colony of "Elpis"
* DueToTheDead: Temporarily shelves his Ratsel persona (by removing his shades, no less) during [[spoiler:Captain Daitetsu Minase's]] funeral.
* GratuitousGerman: All of the Aussenseiter's attacks are named in German
* GunsAkimbo: Aussenseiter's DualWielding "Lanze Kanone" {{BFG}}s
* TheGunslinger: Switches between "The Vaporizer" and the "The Woo", especially in the ''Second Original Generation''. Little bits of GunKata are also thrown in.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: Bordering on HoYay; the fact he spends so much time with Sanger has caused this to be a RunningGag among fans. [[spoiler:Taken UpToEleven in the end credits of episode 15 in ''The Inspectors'' with a '''LoinCloth''']].
* ICallItVera: Any machine he uses are always designated by him as "Trombe", ''including the [[CoolShip Kurogane]]'', which was the name of his favorite horse.
* KillTheOnesYouLove, ShootTheDog: When [[spoiler:his wife Cattleya Fujiwara-Branstein]] was held hostage in a hangar bay on Elpis being pumped with poison gas, the terrorist Archibald Grims threatened to gas the rest of Elpis. Elzam was urged by [[spoiler:Cattleya]] to destroy the hangar bay to prevent the gas from seeping into the rest of the colony. He complied.
* {{Leitmotif}}: Most characters have this, but "Trombe!" has reached memetic status due to a bug that caused it to override boss themes.
* LightningBruiser: Elzam carries the defensive stats of a super robot pilot, evasion stat of a real robot pilot and a well-balanced offensive stat tailored to ranged attacks. Coupled with the "Genius" pilot skill[[note]]+20 to accuracy and evasion stats and critical hit rate automatically[[/note]], and his Huckebein MK II "Trombe", Elzam becomes one of the best real robot pilots in the first game. Further augmented in the sequel when he receives the Aussenseiter, which comes with high attack power and armor, alongside mobility that most supers don't usually have and his "Ace Bonus"[[note]]When Ratsel achieves 50 kills or more, +10% to ranged stat[[/note]].
* MechanicalHorse: Aussenseiter's "Pferd Mode"
* PaperThinDisguise: No one knows why he insists on doing this, though the going theory is it's [[TheAtoner his way of turning over a new leaf]]. Everybody goes along with it since it's easier to play dumb than it is to explain why a former (and infamous) Divine Crusaders general is working with them.
** StartingANewLife: It seems he's not trying to hide ''who'' he is, rather he's trying to project a new image for himself. Elzam had a reputation for being aloof and hard to read, but as "Ratsel", he's much more approachable.
* RealMenWearPink: Even with a bare minimum of ingredients, [[RealMenCook Ratsel can still churn out a world-class gourmet feast]].
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: Subverted; began as a villain, but [[NobleDemon he's squarely built on original intentions of Bian's Divine Crusaders]]. When he pulls a HeelFaceTurn, he disappears soon afterwards, only to he reappear as Ratsel, gets the Aussenseiter, [[BunnyEarsLawyer but occasionally winds up playing exceptionally goofy that his brother considers it an embarrassment]].
* SupremeChef: Doubling with ChefOfIron, he's one of the few to be immune to the GargleBlaster made by [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Kusuha Mizuha]], going so far as to ''identify every ingredient'' in the dreaded drink.
* ATasteOfPower: In the prologue scenario of the first ''Original Generation'' game for Ryusei's route
* ThemeMusicPowerUp: "Trombe!" overrides all...except maybe [[Anime/GoShogun Bundol's]] "Blue Danube"
** Banpresto seems to be getting a little tired of the glitch as well. "Free Battle Mode" in ''Original Generation Gaiden'' allows players to force [=BGMs=] on battles, meaning they have the power to (finally) override "Trombe".

!!Latooni Subota (Voiced by Riko Hirai)

Latooni Subota is one of the "Boosted Children" of the "The School", a Federation-funded academy that trained children to become mecha pilots. Unfortunately, as the technology was still in its infancy, many were mentally and physically conditioned to handle the stress of piloting. It was so harsh that by the time advances rendered the program obsolete, only three students survived: Latooni was ''not'' one of them. During a routine training regiment, she was lost in a crash and deemed "killed-in-action" by The School. However, Latooni was found by two Federation fighter pilots, Giado Venerdi and Garnet Sandi, who took her to a hospital and, unable to find any identification other than her designation "Latooni 11", effectively raised her as their daughter and gave her a surname ([[TemporalThemeNaming "Subota" is Russian for "saturday", which falls between "venerdi" (friday) and "sandi" (sunday)]]). Despite being a child, she's allowed to become a fighter pilot, even placed in the same squad as Giado and Garnet. The rather shy and withdrawn girl responds only to them, but her skills as a pilot more than makes up for it.

When assigned to the ''Hagane'' battleship, Latooni meets the Ryusei of the "[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha SRX Team]]". Being around the AscendedFanboy considerably opens up her personality and loosens her reservations, including a wardrobe change, courtesy of Garnet. Sporting [[Main/ElegantGothicLolita a really cute, frilly dress]], she's complemented by many of the crew, furthering her CharacterDevelopment. After the [[CivilWar Divine Crusaders War]], [[Main/TheRemnant Divine Crusader Remnants]] attempt to seize the [[Main/TheKingdom Dukedom of Riskent]]. Assigned to protect the nation's headstrong [[MySignificanceSenseIsTingling and clairvoyent]] Princess Shine Hausen, Latooni is assigned to her as a bodyguard. Unfortunately, the princess is kidnapped by a Federation traitor and taken to Adler Koch, a Main/MadScientist who happens to be the former head instructor at The School. With the help of her allies, Latooni saves her new friend, and permanently rids the world of a big source of her early misery. Following the L5 Campaign, Latooni vows to find the rest of the Boosted Children.

In the sequel, Latooni is working alongside Raidiese and Kai as part of the reformed Aggressors. While testing the new Wild Falken, they are attacked by Divine Crusader Remnants and they [[GrandTheftPrototype steal the machine]]. To her horror, Latooni discovers [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Arado Balanga and Seolla Schweizer]], her former Schoolmates and close friends, are aligned with the Remnants, including their mutual CoolBigSis Ouka Nagisa. Worse, they are under the influence of Agilla Setme, another ex-School instructor [[MadScientist with a penchant]] [[MindManipulation for brainwashing]]. By ''Original Generation Gaiden'', she still continues to serve on the Aggressors, now accompanied by Arado, Seolla and ex-[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAdvance Shadow-Mirror operative Lamia Loveless]].

During the onset of the "Sealing War" in the ''Second Original Generation'', Latooni finds out there are ''more'' Boosted Children survivors. However, Chienne, Chien and Chiot are not as willing to reform like Arado and Seolla and turn from their new Gaia Sabers employer. Although she pities their delusions of being the greatest there is, Latooni is forced to kill them. At the end of the game, Princess Shine offers her a small job of being an IdolSinger for ceremonial purposes in Riksent.

Latooni originally used a generic fighter jet, but is quickly switched out to a spare Gespenst aboard the ''Hagane'' as soon as it's available. In ''Original Generations'', she ends up in Ryusei's hand-me-down "Wildraubtier"[[note]]To reflect what wasn't mandated by plot in the original release of the first game, but what virtually everyone did by the end-game[[/note]]. When Riksent is attacked by the "Neo Divine Crusaders" in ''Original Generation 2'', Princess Shine unveils the "Fairlions", a pair of ceremonial mecha she personally commissioned, giving Latooni the Fairlion-S(ilver) to use as her personal unit. By the ''Second Original Generation'', the old Wildraubtier is retooled into the new "Wildraubtier Schnabel", though she can use the Schnabel and Fairlion-S interchangeably. She and her machines follow these tropes:

* BadassAdorable [[ElegantGothicLolita Gothic Lolita]]: The "gothic" part's been retconned due to ''Original Generations''. To date, Latooni's only worn the outfit when piloting twice. She still wears it off-duty, though.
** The ''Second Original Generation'' takes this to new heights: when executing its CombinationAttack, the Fairlion-S will ''switch out her uniform for the outfit'', then switch back afterwards. It seems a sense of fashion is a crucial part of the attack.
* BeautifulAllAlong: To the point her ''adoptive parents'' briefly have trouble recognizing her.
* BiTheWay: ''[[ZigzaggingTrope Possibly]]''; while she generally seems very committed to Ryusei and doesn't really have eyes for anyone else, there's a fair bit of "suggestive" content with Shine (see her entry). That said, the tone is very different from her flat-out, textbook affection for Ryusei and is mostly limited to subtext, thus it's hard to say definitively.
* BreakTheCutie: Until she escapes The School, but even then, boatloads of this re-occurs as School instructors and surviving Boosted Children re-appear in her life.
* ChestBlaster: Fairlion's "Vostok Laser".
* CombinationAttack, DancingTheme: "Royal Heart Breaker".
* Deuteragonist: In ''Original Generation 2'', Latooni can be considered this (co-sharing with Arado) due to The School story-line being the one with the most focus next to the ''[[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsCompact2 Super Robot Wars Impact]]'' plot.
* DistaffCounterpart: Loosely to [[Anime/SuperDimensionFortressMacross Maxmillian Jenius/Sterling]], in order to fill the playable roster in the first game[[note]]Both characters fly [[TransformingMecha transformable fighter planes]], wear glasses, have [[YouGottaHaveBlueHair exotic-colored hair]], very good stats and growths (particularly evasion), yet socially distant from their teammates before opening up[[/note]]. As CharacterizationMarchesOn, this trope becomes less evident; the ''Second Original Generation'' brings this back a bit, if only because the Wildrauptier Schnabel's strongest attack literally looks like it's lifted frame-for-frame from one of Maximillian's maneuvers in ''Anime/SuperDimensionFortressMacross'', straight down to flipping between fighter plane and humanoid mode to stay on her target.
** Somewhat less obvious are parallels to [[Anime/MobileSuitZetaGundam Kamille Bidan]]: both characters despise conflict and desire some semblance of a peaceful life, are mechanical designers in their spare time and close to women who are forced into a machine that drives them mad; furthermore, the Wildraubtier is the [[Anime/MobileSuitZetaGundam Zeta Gundam]] with the SerialNumbersFiledOff. The primary difference between them are their personalities: while Kamille is open about his distate for war, Latooni isn't quite "screaming mad" about it.
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: The scene in ''Original Generation Gaiden'' where she helps Ryusei devise a CombinationAttack with his teammate [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Mai Kobaysahi]] carries undertones of IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy.
* DualWielding: Wildraubtier Schnabel carries a pair of "Blade Sai".
* FatalAttractor: Everyone near her always gets into bad situations - [[spoiler:her School friends die, Shine gets plugged into the GEIM System BrainwashedAndCrazy, Seolla gets placed with lots of memory modifications and attacks Latooni and Arado, Rai goes NotSoStoic when facing Archibald and almost gets killed, Ouka pulls a HeroicSacrifice and Lamia nearly gets KilledOffForReal from the ODE System]]
* FragileSpeedster: The Fairlion is extremely fragile, as in "generic fighter jet"-fragile[[note]]Justified since it's an "[[AMechByAnyOtherName Armored Module]]", which are derived from fighter jets[[/note]]. * TheGlassesGottaGo: Played straight in the original game, then subverted when ''Original Generations'' {{Retcon}}ned it into {{Meganekko}}.
* GotMeDoingIt: Due to Ryusei's {{Otaku}}ness, putting her into other mecha will result in her CallingYourAttacks, often with a dash of HotBlooded; at present, this has leaked into her attacks for her default mecha.
* HeroWorshipper: Of Ryusei, but in her case, it's more of a flat-out crush.
* IconicSequelCharacter[=/=]SeriesMascot: Although far from the first original character made by Banpresto, Latooni was just an "extra" character to fill in a gap left by the lack of licensed characters. Her contribution to the first game amounts to a single scene in one particular route players aren't required to follow, with no unique unit or dedicated {{Leitmotif}}. Nearly a decade later, she has two {{Ace Custom}}s to her name, two {{Leitmotif}}s, one of the most famous attacks in franchise history, and arguably the poster child for the OriginalGeneration concept. While not as franchise-defining as [[Characters/MasouKishin Masaki Andoh]], Ryusei, Kusuha or Sanger, Latooni's instantly recognizable to [=SRW=] fans.
* {{Leitmotif}}: Notably has two - her personal theme, "Brass Sincerity", and "Fairy Dang-Sing" (localized as "Fairy Dancing") when using the Fairlion.
* NerdGlasses: Before her major CharacterDevelopment, she wore these; following that...

A married man with a daughter, he's commonly known as a "Demon Instructor" for his nasty, but effective methods of training. He's also an acquaintance of [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsMX "Cry Wolves" commander Albero Est]]. Currently, he's training the new generation of Aggressors, starting with Latooni and Raidiese, but after ''Original Generation 2'', lets Rai go back to work with the SRX Team, while he drafts Lamia, Arado and Seolla; following the ''Second Original Generation'', he extends the same invitation to [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsMX Hugo Medio and Aqua Centrum]].

In contrast to other veterans, Kai prefers to use the good ol' fashioned mass-produced Gespensts, but is ''so'' [[{{Badass}} experienced and skilled]] he can make it perform on par with an AceCustom. As of the ''Second Original Generation'', Kai uses the new mass-produced Gespenst MK II Custom that can change between 3 different frames (by default, he uses the "Type-N"). A fighter pilot assigned to the ''Hiryu Custom'' battleship, Katina acquires Kyosuke's old Gespenst MK II (and painted it red) after he received his Alt Eisen. She has two sides to her personality: (excited) angry and REALLY angry. She tends to display an inferiority complex about her piloting skill whenever anyone else is chosen to pilot a unique mecha. Although she winds up using the "[[TransformingMecha R-Gun]]", she switches back to her good ol' Gespenst by ''Original Generation 2''. Unlike most characters, Katina is one of the more easily-suspicious people among the crews: if the others gladly welcome someone who pulled a HeelFaceTurn, she'll likely be the first to say "Hey, think twice! He/she was an enemy! What if...", only to be rebuked back and she usually accepts them again. She leads the "Octo Squad", originally consisting of herself and subordinate Russel, but drafts [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Tasuku Shinguji and Leona Garstein]] by ''Original Generation 2''.

The actual extent of their relationship is so low-key, it's rather hard to tell ''where'' it is. Both seem to think highly of each other (and often worry about how the other feels about their performance in combat), but show none of the usual UnresolvedSexualTension, problems or affection any of the other overt couples have. At the very least, they're close friends (whether they realize it or not) who have become completely comfortable with each other.

She first appears helping Gilliam Yeager protect a shuttle (and its cargo) from being seized by the Divine Crusaders. They succeed in keeping their enemies away, but Sanger (hiding his identity) disables the launch platform, forcing the ''Hiryu Custom'' to transport the cargo. After Mao Industries is attacked, Radha goes on to help the ''Hiryu Custom'' and its efforts to stop the United Colony Corps. It's during this time Radha introduces her personality quirk: she's a fan of yoga, albeit a ''big'' fan - so much she tries to teach it to everyone she meets. HilarityEnsues when this first happens: [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsCompact2 Excellen Browning]] and Katina loudly complain about their experiences, while Viletta is in so much pain she can't even speak. The reactions of the other pilots to Radha's offers of yoga lessons come close to rivaling the reactions to Kusuha and her GargleBlaster.

In ''Original Generation 2'', Radha's still working with Mao Industries. More details about her backstory are revealed: she was a test subject at the ICS (the same institute where the [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Kobayashi sisters]] were); however, Radha was released from the tests by Cuervo Cero, a scientist she worked for and developed a friendly relationship with some time before the accident involving Mai that destroyed the ICS. When Radha meets Arado Balanga and learns Cero worked at The School, she's heartbroken he had stayed to work on the divisive program. Radha commits herself to assisting Arado and Latooni in rescuing Seolla and Ouka from Agilla Setme's control and confront Cuervo. When she gets the chance to meet Cero during the Federation's assault on the Earth Cradle, he reveals he's always cared for the Boosted Children, but hated himself for putting them through the program. When the installation begins to collapse, Cero's injured and pinned down after an attack from [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlphaGaiden Uruz Egret]]. Radha tries to save him, but Cero tells her to leave take care of Boosted Children in his stead.

By ''Original Generation Gaiden'', Radha retires from piloting to become a civilian contractor with the Aggressors, but will return to piloting duties if the situation warrants. Her safety is compromised when she gets kidnapped by a mole in Federation Command and taken to Adler Koch, who places her in a Valsion Custom equipped with the "GEIM System", brainwashing her into a soldier to help him take down Federation Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. Fortunately, she's rescued before the system can cause permanent damage to her mind.

Riskent's invaded by the Neo Divine Crusaders ''again'' in ''Original Generation 2'', and Shine barely escapes capture. This time, however, she's ready to fight back; to that extent, she personally commissioned the Fairlions with the help of the Tesla-Leicht Institute. With Latooni helming the Fairlion-S, Shine uses the Fairlion-G(old) and joins the ''Hagane'' battleship to re-take her nation. Although Riksent is safe again, Shine takes the initiative to journey with the crew to combat and defeat the Shadow-Mirror, [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsCompact2 Einst]], and [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsClassic Inspectors]], to ensure they don't become a threat to not only Riksent, but the world.

When his younger sister Shouko's attacked by the invading [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsCompact3 Shura]], Kouta becomes desperate to protect her, until Roar gives him instructions to transform into his armor, becoming "Fighter Roar". While this doesn't seem to be enough to repel the Shura, his grandfather Kisaburou Azuma unveils the machine he's been hiding and repairing for years: Roar's Compatible Kaiser. Kouta goes to pilot it and fends off the attackers. Just when he believes he won't be using that power anymore, he manages to escape the ODE Incident, only to see Shouko get nabbed away by Folka Albark, forcing him to go on the run after his newfound rival, get in the Compatible Kaiser and save his sister. He manages to join the ''Kurogane'' crew along the way and learn more about their operations, even making peace with Folka, who recently [[DefectorFromDecadence defected from the Shura]].

Unfortunately, Kouta doesn't expect Shouko to wind up becoming a victim of [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsReversal Duminuss]] and its brainwashing, wearing the "Emi Armor" and piloting the G-Thundergate, the companion craft to the Compatible Kaiser. Out for Roar's blood, it takes large amounts of IKnowYouAreInThereSomewhereFight to break control over Shouko, thereby rendering her as the {{Henshin Hero}}ine "Fighter Emi" and face Roar's nemesis [[Characters/CompatiHeroSeries Dark Brain]].

Kouta winds up reappearing in {{Continuity}} via the ''[[EndlessFrontier Endless Frontier EXCEED]]'' SpinOff sequel. In the drama CD that occurs prior to the game, he's transported to the Endless Frontier, with Kouta meeting [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAdvance Axel Almer]] later, surprised at [[AmnesiacDissonance his shift in personality]] and the appearance of [[Characters/EndlessFrontier Aschen Blodel]], mistaking her as Lamia. Regardless, they manage to return to their world once the misadventure ends, but for the sake of not confusing everyone, Kouta decides to keep the majority of this detour to himself (and Axel).

But getting back to the real world doesn't equate rest for Kouta, as the Earth is now under siege by the [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsDestiny Ruina]], with the Gaia Sabers making things complicated. Kouta rejoins the Steel Dragon Battle Group and heads back to Asakusa City to retrieve the Compatible Kaiser, only to find delinquent Michiru Hanaten waiting to challenge him in front of his home. He had no time to worry, as extraterrestrials begin laying siege on Asakusa City. With Michiru's assistance, Kouta recovers the Compatible Kaiser and eventually goes on full force in helping the Steel Dragon Battle Group until the end of the Sealing War.

The Kaiser arrived on Earth where it was found by Kouta's grandfather Professor Kisaburo Azuma, who took the Kaiser and repaired it using the same technology behind the Dynamic General Guardians. Despite Kouta not being around, Michiru prepares to wait for him, to the extent of standing outside his home until he returns. Shouko wouldn't stand for this and allows him to stay in the Azuma residence while he waits. This was long enough for Michiru to develop a crush on her.

When extraterrestrial invaders attack Asakusa City, mass-produced [=JinRai=] arrive on the spot to destroy them. Unfortunately, they begin tearing apart the city because the Compatible Kaiser is hidden beneath the city's amusement park (the [=JinRai=] are programmed to destroy all Dynamic General Guardian units: the Kaiser was repaired with the same tech). Wanting to help, Professor Kisaburo leads Michiru into the underground bunker where the Kaiser is being kept and send it to street level so Kouta can use the machine to fend off the [=JinRai=].

Following the defeat of the [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Nashim Gan Eden]], Ing awoke and found himself within a badly damaged Huckebein MK II. Having no idea who he was or where he had come from, Ing soon found himself under attack from the Alpha Numbers, specifically those who had went to the BadFuture via ''Alpha Gaiden''. When they saw his face, they realized he was one of the Machinery Children and kept labelling him as "Egret". Ing managed to hold back the Alpha Numbers and caused a huge explosion, allowing him to make a quick escape.

Upon waking up from the explosion, Ing found himself under the care of the Alpha Numbers. Giving him a place to recuperate, Ing tells them his situation and how they kept referring to him as Egret. Suddenly, the place is attacked by mysterious Bergelmirs, mass-produced Huckebein MK II units mutated by Machine Cells, under orders to find and capture Ing. The Alpha Numbers retailate and Ing manages to hijack a Bergelmir of his own. Damaging one of the enemy pilot's mask reveals to Ing the attackers and him share the same face. After the enemies retreat, the Alpha Numbers tell him the location of the Earth Cradle and Ing sets out to find the truth about his existence.

Ing appears in the ''Second Original Generation'' escaping from the Gaia Sabers' headquarters on Aidoneus Island, but is caught up by Duvan Org in the Alles Geist and shot down in his escaping unit. Floating near-lifelessly in an escape pod in the Pacific Ocean, Ing is found by members of the "[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsReversal L&E Corporation]]" and brought aboard the ''Hagane'' for recovery. Unfortunately, [[AmnesiacDissonance Ing reawakens with no memories of who he is]], but willingly accepts to help the crew and their situation during their sojourn into La Gias by using the "R-Blade Custom". After returning to the surface world and sensing his extraordinary piloting capabilities, Ing is given a custom [=EXbein=] called the "Ashe" (the [=EXbein=] having [[CanonImmigrant first appeared in]] ''The Inspectors''), after Gaia Sabers member Amara Barton destroys all of Mao Industries' Huckebeins. This incident hovers over Daitetsu, as he swears he won't allow such a near-death incident to happen again. By then, he's moved to a rank of commandant of a military academy, where he trains his future XO and protege Tetsuya Onodera, Lee Linjun and Lefina Einfeld. Just as he becomes captain of the newly christened ''Space-Noah'' class battleship ''Shirogane'' (with Tetsuya as his deputy), Shu Shirakawa damages it with the Granzon before its maiden voyage. Despite two ship disasters on his record, Daitetsu's given command of the second ''Space-Noah'' battleship ''Hagane'' during the Divine Crusaders War. Fortunately, he has more success, as the ''Hagane'' single-handedly attacks its headquarters and achieves victory. During the Divine Crusaders War, she leads the ''Hiryu Custom'' and the ATX Team against the entire United Colony Corps defensive force and slowly matures into a dependable leader. Based on the [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsClassic same-named faction]] from the "[[FanNickname Classic Timeline]]", the Divine Crusaders ("DC") are an anti-Federation government force led by Bian Zoldark. The genius scientist formed the DC by using the "Extra-Over Technology Institute" as a smoke-screen to hide themselves from TheFederation. Similar to their "Classic" counterparts, Bian declares war on the Federation, rallying his followers and any newcomers to topple the current regime in ''Original Generation'', but with a twist: Bian unveils a meeting in the Antarctic between government representatives and extraterrestrials were meant to ensure the Earth would surrender to alien forces. Naturally, this causes anti-alien sentiments throughout humanity, leading many to enlist in Bian's newly revealed DC, igniting the first "[[CivilWar Divine Crusaders War]]". Unlike the "Classic" Divine Crusaders, the DC of ''Original Generation'' are also assisted by the "United Colony Corps", the primary military force belonging to the space colonies, headed by Bian's close friend Maier von Branstein of the Elpis colony. Bian's insurrection ultimately ends with his death at DC headquarters on Aidoneus Island by the Steel Dragon Battle Group.

After Bian dies, however, the Divine Crusaders undergo changes, due to a combination of the death of many of the organization's higher-ups and severe MotiveDecay from its existing commanders. By the time the L5 Campaign is underway, the DC is scattered and largely leaderless; nevertheless, these small "[[TheRemnant Divine Crusaders Remnants]]" continue their anti-government dissent by waging small skirmishes against the Earth Federation Army. However, Colonel Van Vat Tran manages to unite a majority of the Remnants into the "Neo Divine Crusaders" in ''Original Generation 2'' (''Neue'' Divine Crusaders in the Japanese version) and, [[HereWeGoAgain once again]], the Neo DC attempt to topple the Federation government. While many like Colonel Van are doing it in the belief they are upholding Bian's legacy, others have pettier reasons behind this second Divine Crusaders War. Unfortunately, the Neo DC are rendered powerless again after the disastrous results of "Operation Plantagenet", a joint Earth Federation Army-Neo DC campaign to push the Inspectors away from the planet. By ''Original Generation Gaiden'', many of its members have either left the organization or defected to the Earth Federation Army; only a few pockets of Neo DC regiments remain, commanded by Lorenzo di Montenego.

[[IKnowMortalKombat Recruited by the Divine Crusaders for his game-playing skills and talents]] at "Burning PT", an InUniverse MechaGame simulating mecha combat, Tenzan Nakajima drops out of a tournament in ''Original Generation'' to join the faction, allowing Ryusei to win by default (in ''Divine Wars'', Tenzan faces Ryusei in the tournament final and defeats him, becoming champion). Becoming a test pilot for the Lion series, Tenzan is one of the few people in the DC to use all three primary Armored Modules fielded by the Divine Crusaders (Lion, Guarlion and Barrelion). He eventually settles on the Barrelion as his personal unit as he doesn't like how the other two units handle.

Over the course of the Divine Crusaders War, Tenzan becomes a steady rival to Ryusei; unlike the latter, Tenzan [[{{Jerkass}} constantly belittles Ryusei]] and believes the war is a big game and doesn't take into account of his actions. When the Divine Crusaders decide to debut the Valsion Custom, Tenzan is given Unit #3 by Adler. Unfortunately, the GEIM System installed in the machine is far from working capacity, rendering him berserk and distorting his perception of reality further; now he ''really'' believes he's in a real video game. He dies during the Divine Crusaders' final assault on Federation headquarters at Geneva, Switzerland, leaving a serious impression on Ryusei.

Archibald seems like a mild-mannered person with a cunning personality. In reality, he's an AxCrazy PsychoForHire of the Elpis Incident. He set off a poison gas in the docking bay of the Elpis colony [[spoiler:that forced Elzam von Branstein to kill his wife Cattleya in order to save it]]. Archibald takes great pleasure in killing anything he sees, be it innocent or not. This causes some tension between him and those serving under him early on over military strategy, until Archibald defects and joins the Shadow-Mirror, fatally wounding Colonel Van during the surprise attack at the North American Langley Base. During the final showdown in the Earth Cradle, Archibald reveals he was in fact hired by the ''real'' mastermind behind the Elpis Incident from the Extra-Over Technological Investigative Council. This confession, in an attempt to save his own life, horrendously backfires and is killed in a tag-team assault by the Branstein brothers.

Archibald's an interesting character due to the number of {{Mythology Gag}}s surrounding his family name. According to the ''[=RyuKoOh=] Denki'' manga, supposedly set several centuries before ''Original Generation'', Archibald's ancestor Jabez Grims, a member of British royalty, excavates the [=JakuOhKi=] and [=BuOhKi=], two ancient ''Choukijin'' ("Super Mechanical Gods"). However, since Jabez doesn't possess the PsychicPowers allowing humans to control the Choukijin, he uses opium in large amounts to pacify the machines. With these two Choukijin in his possession, Jabez goes on a rampage; fortunately, his actions are stopped by Rishu Tougou's ancestor, Ryuuma. However, Jabez's actions have serious consequences: the Grims family is expelled from the British aristocracy and no longer hold any political power. As such, Archibald takes some measures to secure, and later, stop the revival of the [=RyuOhKi=] and [=KoOhKi=] in ''Original Generation 2'', but fails.

Once known as "Aurum 1", Ouka is the first of the Boosted Children at The School. During her time there, she befriends three younger children: Bronzo 27 and 28 (Seolla and Arado) and Latooni 11. She's one of the few remaining children after The School was shut down, and stays with researchers Agilla Setme and Cuervo Sero.

Ouka first appears to a surprised Latooni and her teammates, piloting an R-Eins loaned to her by the Shadow-Mirror. She initially believes the Federation has brainwashed Latooni into fighting for them and killing Arado, despite Latooni's objections that Arado's alive and that she's fighting of her own will. After discovering that Arado is not dead, Agilla decides to alter Ouka (and Seolla's) memories to make them believe Arado is dead. After the memory alterations, Ouka is given the Rapiecage, a SuperPrototype from the Shadow-Mirror based off of mecha from Project ATX. During the Rapiecage's first sortie, Ouka reveals it's equipped with a newer model of Alder Koch's GEIM System. Quiet, calm and exceptionally loyal, Wodan's initially mistaken for Sanger by the cast, who believes he's been BrainwashedAndCrazy by the Neo DC into joining them. When the real Sanger appears during Operation Plantagenet, Wodan develops a strong rivalry with the {{samurai}}, making it personal to be the only one to defeat him.

In reality, Wodan is an android based on the AlternateUniverse Sanger who was killed in action in the Shadow-Mirror dimension (most theories hint it was [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAdvance Vindel Mauser]] who landed the blow). His body was recovered and given to Lemon Browning to be resurrected as one of the W-Numbers to be a countermeasure against the Beowulves squadron of TheFederation. During Operation Planetagent, Wodan appears at the Tesla-Liecht Institute and stops the [[QuirkyMinibossSquad Inspector]] [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWars3 Vigagi]] from killing Sanger, cementing their rivalry. Wodan not only buys Sanger time to get his new Dygenguard working, but [[GiveMeASword recovers the Type-3 Colossal Blade]] for Sanger to use (in ''Alpha 2'', that role was handled by Ratsel). Afterwards, Wodan's reassigned to the Earth Cradle to protect it from the ''Kurogane'' and faces Sanger outside the facility for their ulimate duel. The sheer force from their respective attacks managed to destroy the outer shell (designed to withstand ''nuclear explosions'', for the record) and cause the Earth Cradle to cave in. Unfortunately, the attack (and subsequent fall) severely crippled Wodan. At that moment, Egret orders Magus to restore the Thrudgelmir, but Wodan refuses, admitting he has lost to Sanger and tells him Sophia is now Sanger's responsibility. Wodan launches a final, killing blow on Feff and the remaining Machinery Children, but the over-damaged Thrudgelmir explodes, destroying Wodan.

Making its debut in the 3-episode OVA ''The Animation'' and reappearing in ''Original Generation Gaiden'', the ODE (Omni Dendro Encephalon) System was created by Professor Wilhelm V. Jürgen, a former member of the Extra-Over Technological Institute. The system was intended to network a new "GESTALT" ([[FunWithAcronyms Global Expanded Stamp out Tactics works ALTogether]]) line of mobile weapons, rolled out by Wong Heavy Industries as the VTX-001 Bartoll. When the Aerogaters invaded and Jürgen's wife and child were killed in the attacks, he drastically redesigned the system to rely on capturing humans as a biological core to derive data. He rationalizes that if the rest of the world were [[AssimilationPlot united as a single consciousness, future conflicts with extraterrestrials would spare the pain of people losing their loved ones]].

In the OVA, Jürgen uses his own body to act as the living core of the mainframe for the ODE System, installed inside a single Bartoll. The system, completely fused with Jürgen's consciousness, slowly assimilates other people into its collective, eventually leading the mass-production machines in subjugating all of humanity. However, the Earth Federation Army successfully locates Jürgen in the abandoned Hellgate Facility and disconnects his uplink with the system. Jürgen dies in the assault, but not before the ODE System releases a stream of data, sending it into the far corners of space.

In ''Original Generations'', before the Aerogaters arrived, funding for the ODE System is halted by Adler Koch, after he assumes command of the Divine Crusaders. By ''Original Generation Gaiden'', Jürgen has relocated to Wong Heavy Industries to complete the system. Rather than act individually in his quest to unite humanity, he acquires the helping hand of Kyle Bean and Selcia Farm and instead of a Bartoll, Jürgen uses a Valsion Custom Type-CF. Similar events from the OVA follows suit, but Jürgen seemingly destroys Lamia, after she is rescued by Kyosuke at the Hellgate Facility. This was enough for Lamia's allies to put an end to Jürgen.

Kyosuke Nanbu of the Shadow-Mirror AlternateUniverse and captain of the "Beowulves" Gespenst squadron, under the designation "[[RedBaron Beowulf]]". According to Axel Almer, who used to fight alongside him in TheFederation, Beowulf was identical to the current Kyosuke Nanbu of the Original Generation universe and shared many personality traits (unwavering determination, stoicism, leadership qualities, etc.), except somewhere along the line, he went AxCrazy, rambling on about world destruction and its rebirth. This is what led to Axel defecting and joining the Shadow-Mirror, and the rivalry between him and his former comrade.

As the Shadow-Mirror were ready to jump to another dimension, Axel was left to fend the Beowulves off at the Tesla-Leicht Institute. While the GameBoyAdvance version of ''Original Generation 2'' told little of Axel's fight, the ''Endless Frontier'' drama CD and subsequent ''The Inspectors'' tells us Axel manages to wipe out the Beowulves singlehandedly and face the mad Beowulf. Although Axel comes out the loser, he [[VictoriousLoser announces his victory for having stalled enough time for his allies to escape to the other side]]. This leaves Beowulf screaming in rage of his defeat, despite having beaten Axel.

Beowulf pilots a machine similar to Kyosuke's Alt Eisen, but given a blue color scheme. While this machine is never given the Alt Eisen codename, it is actually ''accepted'' as the successor to the Gespenst MK II M, and receives the proper "Gespenst MK III" designation. However, there are hints that there is more to the mech than meets the eye.

To that end, he steals the Alles Geist and plans to harness the power of the [[Anime/MobileFighterGGundam Ultimate Gundam]] to break his "flaw" and intends to conquer mankind and rule them as their leader, [[{{Ubermensch}} believing it is his destiny as an idealized superior being to humans]]. Unlike his "sister" Ariel, who had experiences to expand her emotional aspects with the Preventers, Duvan never understood there are other means to live. He stubbornly continues to fight against Ariel and her allies, ultimately winding down to a final battle against her.

Duvan appears in the ''Second Original Generation'' in a similar role to his original counterpart. Needless to say, their methodology can be a little extreme. Stationed in the Garden of Baral, located somewhere in the Middle East, the faction controls the last two "God-class" Choukijin [=JakuOhKi=] and [=BuOhKi=], as well as the last two survivors of the "Evil-class" and all members of the "Spirit-class" (although only one is seen). A tiger- and baboon-based "Evil-class" Choukijin of a higher rank than the "God-class", respectively, the [=KyuKiOh=] and [=TouTetsuOh=] are two mythical machines revived by Kanan and Taihou and put back into service for the Garden of Baral. The [=KyuKiOh=] excels in speed and has the greatest appetite of all the "Evil-class", while the [=TouTetsuOh=] can take more hits and is responsible for the death of Kukuru's parents back in ancient times.

A long time ago they and their brothers (along with the "Sin-class" and all lesser Choukijin) broke off from the Garden of Baral and started the Kijin Wars, which gravely took its toll on Baral's sphere of influence in the world. It was in this war that the ''Four Calamities'' were renamed as the ''Four Evils'', the ''Four Punishments'' became the ''Four Sins'', and all classless Choukijin became the Youkijin.

He eventually settles on the Barrelion as his personal unit because he doesn't like how the other two units handle.

Over the course of the Divine Crusaders War, Tenzan becomes a steady rival to Ryusei; unlike the latter, Tenzan constantly thinks the whole war is a big game and doesn't take into account of his actions. When the Divine Crusaders decides to debut the Valsion Custom, Tenzan is given Unit #3 by Adler. Unfortunately, the GEIM System installed in the machine is far from working capacity, rendering him berserk and distorting his perception of reality further; now he ''really'' believes he's in a real video game. He dies during the Divine Crusaders' final assault on Geneva, Switzerland, leaving a serious impression on Ryusei.

After the "[[CivilWar Divine Crusaders War]]", "[[Main/TheRemnant Divine Crusader Remnants]]" attempt to seize the [[Main/TheKingdom Dukedom of Riskent]]. Assigned to protect the nation's headstrong [[MySignificanceSenseIsTingling and clairvoyent]] Princess Shine Hausen, Latooni is assigned to her as a bodyguard. Unfortunately, the princess is kidnapped by a Federation traitor and taken to Adler Koch, a Main/MadScientist who happens to be the former head instructor at The School. With the help of her allies, Latooni saves her new friend, and permanently rids the world of a big source of her early misery. Following the L5 Campaign, Latooni vows to find the rest of the Boosted Children.

A staff member at Mao Industries, Radha Byraban is introduced in ''Original Generation'' via Kyosuke's route. Although she has a custom white "Schutzwald", Radha mainly heads out to the battlefield when the need arises. She first appears helping Gilliam Yeager protect a shuttle (and its cargo) from being seized by the Divine Crusaders. They succeed in keeping their enemies away, but Sanger (hiding his identity) disables the launch platform, forcing the ''Hiryu Custom'' to transport the cargo. After Mao Industries is attacked, Radha goes on to help the ''Hiryu Custom'' and its efforts to stop the "United Colony Corps", the military forces belonging to the space colonies. It's during this time Radha introduces her personality quirk: she's a fan of yoga, albeit a ''big'' fan - so much she tries to teach it to everyone she meets. HilarityEnsues when this first happens: [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsCompact2 Excellen Browning]] and Katina loudly complain about their experiences, while Viletta is in so much pain she can't even speak. The reactions of the other pilots to Radha's offers of yoga lessons come close to rivaling the reactions to Kusuha and her GargleBlaster.

Archibald's an interesting character due to the number of {{Mythology Gag}}s surrounding his family name. According to the ''[=RyuKoOh=] Denki'' manga, which supposedly tells of events set several centuries before ''Original Generation'', Archibald's ancestor Jabez Grims, a member of British royalty, excavates the [=JakuOhKi=] and [=BuOhKi=], two ancient ''Choukijin'' ("Super Mechanical Gods"). However, since Jabez doesn't possess the PsychicPowers allowing humans to control the Choukijin, he uses opium in large amounts to pacify the machines. With these two Choukijin in his possession, Jabez goes on a rampage; fortunately, his actions are stopped by Rishu Tougou's ancestor, Ryuuma. However, Jabez's actions have serious consequences: the Grims family is expelled from the aristocracy and no longer held any royal powers. As such, Archibald takes some measures to secure, and later stop the revival of, the [=RyuOhKi=] and [=KoOhKi=] in ''Original Generation 2'', but fails. Tropes associated with Archibald are:
