**Ataru is not only acrobatics, Yoda uses it like that to compensate for his limited physique. It's called the Aggression form and it is energetic and only second to Vaapad/Juyo in aggressiveness, but puts all of one's chips on the attack, neglecting defense. Ataru's energetic nature is credited with overtaxing Qui-Gon, which along with the reduced space in which he fought Maul led to his downfall. Obi Wan uses it too during the Phantom Menace and it was thanks to Ataru's weaknesses being highlighted by his master's demise that caused Obi-Wan to switch from Ataru (an aggressive style) to Soresu (the most defensive style), though he kept up his Ataru knowledge and weaved it into his style from time to time.

A venerable if maverick Jedi Master who mentored the Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi. Discovering the young Anakin Skywalker on Tatooine, he comes to believe the boy to be the Chosen One of Jedi prophecy; it is at his dying request that Anakin is trained to become a Jedi. Following his death, he became one with the Force and communed with Yoda during the Clone Wars.
----
* Ambadassador: He and Obi-Wan are sent to negotiate with the Trade Federation at the start of The Phantom Menace. He luckily has his lightsaber with him when the Federation prove themselves in no mood for negotiations.

* Badass: Only Darth Maul managed to engage Qui-Gon on equal footing, and even though Maul emerged victorious, it took quite an effort from the Sith Lord.
* BadassBaritone: Liam Neeson's deep, husky voice only adds to Qui-Gon's commanding presence.
* BadassBeard: A quite full chin-strap and mustache.
* BadassGrandpa: Drafts of The Phantom Menace script have his age at 60.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: He's a maverick by Jedi standards, preferring to live in the moment rather than to fulfill one's own supposed destiny. His teachings still shape Obi-Wan into a wise and legendary Jedi Knight.
* TheCassandra: His belief that the Sith have returned and that Anakin is TheChosenOne are initially dismissed by the Jedi Council, but turn out to be true.
* TheChooserOfTheOne: When he meets Anakin and sees what he's capable of, Qui-Gon is convinced he's found TheChosenOne of Jedi prophecy.
* DeadPersonConversation: He appears in front of both Obi-Wan and Anakin on Mortis, and is able to speak to Yoda in "Voices", despite being dead for over a decade. Yoda later convenes with him again around the time of Film/RevengeOfTheSith, and teaches Obi-Wan to do the same between trilogies.
* DecoyProtagonist: Of The Phantom Menace. He gets top billing, takes up a sizable amount of space on the poster, and has the most influence and screentime out of the heroes in the movie, but it's all to set up Anakin as the true protagonist.
* EnergyBeing: Because his training to do so wasn't complete, he can't manifest himself as a spirit, but on a planet sufficiently strong in the Force, he can appear as a "flock of light".
* FriendToAllLivingThings: Qui-Gon is noted for having much compassion for all living things.
* HonorBeforeReason: Despite the Council's very clear and valid apprehensions towards making Anakin a Jedi, Qui-Gon is as determined as any to see the boy be trained.
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: How Darth Maul kills him.
* JediMindTrick: Uses this on Boss Nass to save Jar Jar's life and get them a transport to Theed. Later tries (and fails) to do the same on Watto to haggle over a needed starship hyperdrive.
* LaserBlade: Wields a green-bladed lightsaber.
* TheLastDJ: Obi-Wan believes Qui-Gon would've been on the Jedi Council long ago if not for his tendency to do things his own way rather than by the Jedi Code; needless to say, Qui-Gon doesn't seem to mind.
* LastRequest: His is for Obi-Wan to train Anakin in his place after he dies.
* LooksLikeJesus: Even wears robes as part of his Jedi outfit.
* MartialPacifist: He's the epitome of this, especially when his mid-battle meditation contrasted against Darth Maul's animalistic, restless pacing while the two were separated by a forcefield.
* MasterSwordsman: It comes with being an experienced Jedi Master, which lets him fight one-on-one against Darth Maul and his double-bladed lightsaber. His skills only help him for so long, though...
* MaybeMagicMaybeMundane: His first appearance as a spirit adviser on Mortis was ambiguous enough that Obi-Wan wrote it off as a hallucination of some sort. His second appearance as one to Yoda in the sixth season of The Clone Wars erases that ambiguity.
* MeditationPowerUp: Does so during one of the gaps in his fight with Darth Maul, thanks to some opportunely closed laser shields.
* TheMentor: To Obi-Wan and Anakin during The Phantom Menace. He becomes the one who teaches Yoda the way of retaining one's identity upon death, and manifesting as a Force-Ghost.
* MentorOccupationalHazard: He, as the mentor in the StudentAndMasterTeam against Darth Maul, does not survive the fight.
* TheObiWan: Notably serves as this to the man himself, no less, as well as to Anakin in The Phantom Menace.
* OldMaster: In The Phantom Menace, Qui-Gon is the first maverick master seen on-screen (chronologically), at odds with the Jedi Council but respected nonetheless. He trained Obi-Wan and was the person most accountable for introducing Anakin Skywalker to the way of the Jedi, all things considered.
* OurGhostsAreDifferent: Despite his inability to manifest himself under normal circumstances, he was able to appear in front of Obi-Wan and Anakin on Mortis, most likely because the planet was such a strong conduit of the Force.
* ParentalSubstitute: He's served as one to Obi-Wan for as long as they've been training together. Also acts as one to Anakin, who grew up (and was actually born) without a father.
* PragmaticHero: Being a Jedi doesn't stop him from manipulating Boss Nass into providing a transport to the capital of Naboo, trying to swindle Watto out of a hyperdrive generator, cheating at gambling to free a slave, or subverting the authority of the Jedi Council to ensure that Anakin is trained as a Jedi.
* SacrificialLion: His death at Darth Maul's hands shocks the Jedi into realizing the Sith have returned.
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: His tendency to do this has brought him at odds with the other Jedi, respected as he is. The most influential example by far is when he decides to have Anakin trained as a Jedi despite the Council explicitly telling him no.
* SpiritAdvisor: To Obi-Wan and Anakin during the Mortis arc.
* SupportingProtagonist: To Anakin in the long run of the prequels.
* TakeUpMySword: He dies before he has a chance to properly train Anakin, and tells Obi-Wan to take his place.
* TheUnfettered: A rare heroic example of an unfettered character; When Obi-Wan tries to call him out on his more questionable actions, he simply says, "I will do what I must," without hesitation.
* UnintentionalBackupPlan: Qui-Gon's original plan is for Anakin to be trained as a Jedi and bring balance to the Force. This seems to fail when Anakin falls to the dark side. In Film/ReturnOfTheJedi, however, Anakin does bring balance to the Force by destroying the last of the Sith (including himself).
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: His request to have Anakin trained as a Jedi spells doom for the Jedi Order along with the rest of the galaxy. It's not entirely his fault, though; if he lived to train Anakin on his own, things may have turned out differently.

->Appears in: The Clone Wars

-->"The value of moving slowly is that one can always clearly see the way ahead."

An elderly Cosian Jedi that instead of fighting in the war, turns his efforts to studying Coruscant's criminal underworld and training future generations of Jedi.
----
* Badass: Old age hasn't impeded his skill as a detective, nor has it robbed him of his abilities with a sword.
* BadassGrandpa: He's very old, but that doesn't stop him from easily disarming a lightsaber swinging bounty hunter.
* BadassTeacher: He drew his lightsaber and stood protectively in front of the Younglings he had been training, during Anakin's duel with the traitorous Barriss Offee.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: He sounds like a senile fool until that precise moment he cracks the entire mystery on his own.
* TheCameo: He occasionally shows up in the background. Two of his most famous ones showed him training the Younglings from the Young Jedi arc.
* CoolOldGuy: A skilled detective and master swordsman who is old friends with equally CoolOldGuy Yoda.
* EccentricMentor: He teaches Ahsoka to take things more slowly and think through her actions, a lesson which largely sticks, despite Master Sinube's slightly senile demeanor.
* Expy: His trolling BunnyEarsLawyer attitude, and his way of giving useful advice to a hot-headed youngster, makes him very similar to Iroh.
* GreatDetective: In his youth, now he's a RetiredBadass.
* LetsGetDangerous: He spends most of the episode being a GreatDetective, that is, until the criminal pulls out a lightsaber and he proceeds to utterly trounce them.
* Lightsaber Cane: His silver-bladed lightsaber is hidden in his cane, allowing him to easily pull it out and surprise his opponents.
* OldMaster: Don't underestimate him because of his age: he is still a capable trainer, detective, and combatant.
* TheProfiler: Once a GreatDetective, in his old age, he's more into theoretical work.
* RetiredBadass: An older Jedi Master, Sinube has dedicated himself to training younger Jedi, and hadn't gone into the field for years when Ahsoka asked for his help.
* SeniorSleepCycle: His introduction scene shows him having fallen asleep in the middle of some research in the Archives. Subverted in that he is never seen falling asleep while on the job, and Jedi generally tend to have more energy in them than non-Force users even when they reach old age.

-->"If an item does not appear in our records, it does not exist!"

A former Jedi Council member who now serves as the Chief Librarian for the Jedi Archives.
----
* ActionGirl: Mostly an informed trait, but given that she's a retired member of the Jedi Council, it's safe to assume it's true. When Cad Bane's Shapeshifting Clawdite accomplice caught Jocasta by surprise and took her form, she was easily defeated by Ahsoka, who commented that she had Jocasta's form, but not her abilities.
* BadassBookworm: She retired from active service to take care of the Jedi Archives.
%%* CoolOldLady
* GrannyClassic: Sort of. She's not doing any of the usual stuff associated with this trope, but she does act like one towards Ahsoka.
* LaserBlade: Wields a blue-bladed lightsaber.
%%* NeverMessWithGranny
* Pride: Despite being a Jedi, she can't help but have immense pride in the knowledge gathered in the Jedi Archives. Obi-Wan suggesting that the archives might be missing information annoys her greatly.
* RetiredBadass: Used to be a member of the Jedi Council.

-->"For the Republic! For the Twi'leks!"

A Nikto Jedi general who led the initial liberation force to free Ryloth before being killed during the battle.
----
* Badass: Manages to hold off a massive droid army alongside his men, giving his life to buy the Twi'lek resistance time to escape.
* BackToBackBadasses: Briefly with Captain Keeli.
* DyingMomentOfAwesome: He even invoked it when he and Keeli were the last ones standing:
-->Ima-Gun Di: Let's make the end memorable!
* HeroicSacrifice: He sacrifices himself (and his troops) to allow the Twi'lek LaResistance to escape.
* LaserBlade: Wields a blue-bladed lightsaber.
* LastStand: He continued fighting destroying several droids, after being shot multiple times, to buy more time for the Twi'leks to escape.
* MeaningfulName[=/=]PunnyName: Just read it out loud. "I'm-a gon' die." As in, "I'm gonna die."
* RubberForeheadAlien: He is a Kajain'sa'Nikto, a species with no nose and several facial spikes.
* YouShallNotPass: Holds his own against an entire battallion of droids, continuing to fight even after he was shot multiple times.

-->"You are strong in the Force, little one."

The Jedi Master and father figure of Asajj Ventress.
----
* Badass: He spent years fighting raiders and warlords on Rattatak with Asajj before eventually being killed.
* CanonImmigrant: He first appeared in a comic book, and the episode "Nightsisters" integrated him into the series' canon.
* DeathByOriginStory: He was killed during a battle on Rattatak, his death marking Ventress' StartOfDarkness.
* DiedInYourArmsTonight: He died in Ventress' arms.
* FacialMarkings: He had small tattoos on his face.
* InTheBack: He was shot by a Weequay sniper while fighting pirates.
* TheObiWan: He's the deceased older mentor of Ventress.
* SameStoryDifferentNames: His role is very similar to Qui-Gon Jinn's role in The Phantom Menace: They both rescued a slave child on a remote DeathWorld, who was very powerful in the Force, took, or attempted to take them as their apprentices, without the Council's approval and despite it's disapproval respectively, they both died before they could finish the training of the children, and both apprentices eventually fell to the Dark Side.
* ParentalSubstitute: He took in Ventress - who just lost the only "family" she had her slaver master - as his apprentice, and raised her since she was a small child.
* PosthumousCharacter: He is only seen in flashbacks to Ventress' past, having died many years before the Clone Wars.

-->"You will...never...get me to...unlock the...holocron."

A Rodian Jedi Master, who was tasked with protecting the Kyber Crystal, which contained the list of every known Force-sensitive child too young to be taken in by the Jedi.
----
* Determinator: He chose to be tortured to death rather than open the Holocron for Bane.
* EarlyBirdCameo: He appeared on a profile-photo in "Holocron Heist".
* ElectricTorture: Cad Bane used it on him to get him to open the Holocron. When he refused, Bane tortured him to death.
* FamilyUnfriendlyDeath: Even the battle droids seemed to have been shaken by how cruel his death was. Also invoked by the writers; they intended Ropal's death to be exceptionally brutal to further emphasize Bane's status as a KnightOfCerebus.
* RubberForeheadAlien: He was a Rodian.
* SacrificialLamb: He was only needed to remind everyone how dangerous and nasty Cad Bane is.
* SecretKeeper: He was the keeper of the Kyber crystal, which contains the names and locations of every Force-sensitive child too young to be taken in by the Jedi.

A Roonan Jedi Master, Halsey was the first Jedi victim of Savage Opress during the Battle of Devaron.
----
* BadassTeacher: To Knox.
* CurbStompBattle: Savage Opress defeated him without much problem.
* FragileSpeedster: He was fast and agile enough to temporarily drive Savage Opress back while fighting unarmed, but once Savage delivered his first hit, Halsey couldn't even make another move before being killed.
* LaserBlade: Wields a green-bladed lightsaber.
* TheMentor: To Knox.
* RubberForeheadAlien: He's a Roonan.
* SacrificialLion: He was Savage Opress' first Jedi victim, designed to show how powerful Savage was.

The head of security for the Jedi Temple and commander of the Temple Guard. He is also a lightsaber instructor for the Order.
----
* AscendedExtra: He appeared very briefly in security footage which showed him getting killed by Darth Vader in Revenge of the Sith, but appears in an episode of The Clone Wars assisting Anakin Skywalker's investigation of the Temple bombing.
* CharacterDeath: He is killed by Darth Vader when he leads the 501st in sacking the Jedi Temple.

A female Mikkian Jedi Master who fought alongside her twin sister Tiplar during the Clone Wars. She was killed by Count Dooku while hunting him and the Shadow Collective.
----
* ActionGirl: A given since she is a Jedi Master, but she managed to last against Count Dooku for a while before being killed.
* AlienHair: She has some sort of red hair that changes to purple at the end. She also has some sort of weird anvil looking thing coming out of the back of her hair.
* CoordinatedClothes: She wears the exact same outfit as her sister, only with the colors reversed.
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: During her and Obi-Wan's duel with Count Dooku, he used the Force to pull Tiplee onto his lightsaber, killing her.
* LaserBlade: Wields a blue-bladed lightsaber.
* MauveShirt: She gets a bit more development than her sister, but is still killed in her second appearance by Count Dooku.
* MindOverMatter: Uses the Force to pin Tup to the wall after he breaks out of his restraints, and Anakin has to calm her down so she doesn't do anything more to him.
* SiblingTeam: With Tiplar. She is devastated when Tup murders her.

* AlienHair: She has long thin yellow tentacle like hair.
* BoomHeadshot: During the battle on Ringo Vinda's space station, Tup comes up behind her and shoots her in the head before she can react.
