* ApocalypseMaiden: With the [[spoiler: Seraph of the end currently sealed up inside him]] he holds the power to finish destroying the world and bring about the deaths of many should he fall into the wrong hands or submit to it.

* AmbiguouslyGay: Yuu falls between this and AmbiguouslyBi in that while he occasionally blushes around girls (in the anime at least), he acts much more interested in Mika. Doesn't help that in the official fanbook, his answer to what he likes in the opposite sex is a blunt "shut up". The main protagonist of the Seraph of the End series. He is a member of the Japanese Imperial Demon Army as well as Shinoa Hīragi's squad in the Moon Demon Company. He, along with Mikaela Hyakuya and a few others, possesses the "seraph" gene, which is relevant to the forbidden taboo and the focal point of the story, "Seraph of the End."

[[spoiler: In Chapter 37 (Episode 22) he admits that he's glad that he chose to keep living, even after he's lost his reason to live due to the murder of the Hyakuya orphans, because living allows him to meet Mika again.]]

* {{Badass}}: Naturally, since he's wielding a Black Demon Cursed Gear. [[spoiler: His seraph form is even more badass; During the Battle of Shinjuku, he was capable of easily forcing Crowley back (anime only). Later, after he took the Second Trumpet, he's capable of defeating Abaddon of the Fifth Trumpet and turning it to salt particles with a few attacks]]

* AManIsNotAVirgin: Averted. Shinoa and Guren like to remind him of that ''all the time''. As Shinoa explains, they need people to procreate and rebuild humanity!

* CorrupttheCutie: Yuu agreeing to become a Namanari hold back the seraph has caused him to start the process of becoming a demon.

* TragicBromance: The murder of his best friend Mika affects Yuu so deeply that he decides that he has no reason to continue living except to avenge his death by devoting the remainder of his life to the extermination of the entire vampire race. Subverted when it's revealed that Mika is alive after all.

The author has made it known in a Q&A that Yuu's "unexpected special skill" is to make others love him — outright implying Yuu's whole squad has crushes on him. However, [[ChasteHero Yuu himself]] hasn't shown any romantic interest in anyone and focuses only on killing vampires and protecting his comrades and Mika.

He starts off in the series fighting the vampires simply for revenge, but after learning about the importance of teamwork and the fact that Mika is still alive in the Battle of Shinjuku, he establishes his purpose of fighting the vampires for protecting his comrades and [[FamilyOfChoice family]].

* BadDreams: After Yuu escaped from the vampire capitol, he frequently has [[FlashbackNightmare nightmares]] about his [[FamilyOfChoice family]] (with emphasis on Mika dying in Ferid's hand), causing him to relive the incident in which the orphans were slaughtered. Demons are fond of inflicting these to their masters in order to take over their bodies.
