* PowerTrio: The Academy trio, or the ABCs to the fans. Interestingly, they're the second ABC trio chronologically, as Morris's students Aosta, Barbara and Clio make up a prior one.

* YoungerThanTheyLook: She was a rune student under Morris before her death, which was at least 29 years before ''Mirage'', but she looks very youthful.

* CurbStompBattle: On both the giving and receiving end of this in rapid succession. At first, she effortlessly takes down Barbara and Tica, but then a ''very furious'' Charle almost obliterates her in retaliation.

A trio of Rune Academy students whose strong wills

* ADayInTheLimelight: They're the starter characters of the original Balzac's Heritage mission, and are perfectly capable of clearing it themselves.

* FanNickname: "The ABCs".
* HiddenDepths: It turns out that their seemingly shallow crush on Elio stems from their deep respect and admiration for him.

* LaserGuidedKarma: They try to bully Leah and end up getting sent on Leah's first assignment. They try and take Leah's reward and are [[LethalChef fed Charle's cake]].

* PowerTrio: As a group they're the original "ABC trio". Interestingly, they're the second ABC trio chronologically, as Morris's students Aosta, Barbara and Clio make up a prior one.
* SitcomArchnemesis: With Leah during Leah's Pride and Prejudice character story. Since then, they've been Fatima's.

* BloodMagic: [[spoiler:Possesses the "power from the North" which allows him to absorb blood and corpses to empower him.]]

* FinalBoss: He is the last enemy the player faces in ''Sunset'' arc. Despite his lousy reputation, however, he doesn't go down easy...

* UndyingLoyalty: He wishes to serve and be useful to Theodore no matter what, disregarding the king's constant verbal abuse and even his own safety [[spoiler:by using the power from the north]].

A former classmate of Elio's visiting the Desert Kingdom to find a way into the Mechanical Kingdom. He joins Sophie and Morgan's Marvelous Circus in the search for Elio.

* BrilliantButLazy: Claims he wasn't an honor's student like Elio, but developed the hologram technology he uses in combat, in addition to building the robot Chu Chu Maria keeps as a pet.
* GadgeteerGenius: He repaired Maria, whose construction is hundreds of years beyond the Applied Magic techniques taught at Rune Academy.

* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:First, he messes with Lazer to give his friends a chance to escape, resulting in him being captured and experimented on by Devious. Later, he intercepts a dagger Lazer tries to use to kill Rune, which speeds up his death.]]

* BlackCloak: With a handful of notable exceptions [[spoiler:namely Devious and Izumi]], they all wear full-body concealing dark clothing.

* BeleagueredAssistant: Particularly during Nigel's storyline, where she's shown to be much more concerned about the immediate situation after the riot than Nigel.

* MeaningfulName: [[spoiler: In Greek mythology, Hyacinthus died. The Death of Hyacinthus is well known and often depicted by painters. Take a wild guess on [[ZombieInfectee how she ended up]] when Void Monsters invaded the slums.]]

* {{Tomboy}}: Dresses boyishly and wears her hair short. It even takes Naya a while to realize that Cin is a she.

* TheFarmerAndTheViper: [[spoiler: After learning all he can from Nikolas and his books, Hyde lures Nikolas into the outskirts of a village, overwhelms him with brute strength, and leaves him to be eaten by monsters.]]

* MyBelovedSmother: Wanting to reconnect with your estranged daughter after not seeing her for years? Nice. Trying to practically lock up your daughter in your house so that she'll never leave you again? This lady's got a problem. Eventually Sophie calls her out of it, and she drops the shenanigans.

* PokeThePoodle: After an entire game's worth of build-up they're hardly nasty at all. Thankfully averted in part 2 and onward.

The current Queen of the desert kingdom. Constantly butting heads with the church.

The main differences are that Diana is trying to end the Desert Kingdom's bloody traditions, and she carries a ''giant crossbow'' hidden as a staff.
* MassiveNumberedSiblings: As a Lizard Noble, she would have been born in a creche with dozens of her fellows, and had many actual older and younger siblings. Holding the throne means she outlived most of them.
* TheStraightAndArrowPath: When threatened, Diana goes for the giant crossbow.
* TheWomanWearingTheQueenlyMask: Diana is an oddly benevolent ruler, for a place as harsh as the Desert Kingdom, but the Snake God help anyone foolish enough to mistake her gentleness for weakness. In private, she's mostly... tired.

* DarkIsEvil: He is wreathed in dark aura (making Charle highly suspicious of him), he controls the dangerous Void monsters, and he is involved in the resurrection of Sdorica.

* WeUsedToBeFriends: Despite the fact that he is antagonizing Angelia, Naya and Pang in the intro battle, the three seem to regard him as a friend, telling him not to go through with his dangerous plans. Alas, by then, his mind is already made up and he won't let them stop him.

* DarkIsEvil: He is noted to be wreathed in dark aura (making Charle highly suspicious of him), he controls the dangerous Void monsters, and he is involved in the resurrection of Sdorica.

* YouHaveFailedMeForTheLastTime: Twice in Mirage, both when the underlings had nearly exposed their existence to outsiders.

The General Commander of the Desert Kingdom and Diana's godfather. Assassinated King William, and was the first person to survive the Martyr's Colosseum.

* {{Foil}}: To Dylan. They both serve the daughters of former kings and provide advice and inspiration to their charges and citizens alike. The difference is that Dylan is a KnightInShiningArmor while Lazer is a former slave and gladiator turned royal assassin who ''killed Dylan's king''.
* HeroKiller: As the man who killed King William, he is this to the Sun Kingdom.
* MalevolentMaskedMan: He wears a black mask, and was the one who assassinated King William.
* MySpeciesDothProtestTooMuch: Rare human example, his outfit and high position show that he's elected to join the Desert Kingdom's Lizard ruling class. [[OutsideInsideSlur On one occasion he's called a "chameleon" for it]].
* SinisterScythe: This is his weapon in the present day.
* WorldsStrongestMan: The first human to survive the [[BloodSport Martyr's]] [[GladiatorGames Colosseum]], his victory was so shocking the entire institution collapsed.

Though her history is unclear, it's been said that she comes from the Mechanical Territory. She is pre-programmed with fighting abilities, but due to a malfunction, she's forgotten her raison d'etre, Secret Mission: @%^$!)(*!$&&@#*&. Her personality is that of an innocent toddler, with an immense curiosity regarding the world around her. She possesses abundant energy and has yet to understand jealousy, doubt, and other negative human emotions.

A strange mechanical girl found by Clark who calls him "Master" since he repaired her. She's forgotten everything about herself but is equipped with an enormous range of weapons and technology that far surpass anything on the continent--except the Mechanical Kingdom.

* DangerWillRobinson: Anyone else standing close to Clark sends her into a violent frenzy.

The difference is that Dylan is a KnightInShiningArmor while Lazer is [[TheGladiator a former slave and gladiator]] turned TheAssassin who ''killed Dylan's king''.

** Even apart from the war, he roasts Theodore for daring to abridge the privilege of Sun Kingdom's noble class even a little bit to help the Sun Kingdom's lower classes.

* TooDumbToLive: William saw a human in tattered rags in the middle of a battlefield. Instead of calling for a medic, he ignored his bodyguard and went in personally to ask if anything was wrong. Upon being stabbed in the chest, he was utterly shocked that a human would murder him - ignoring that (A) this human was found in the Desert Kingdom and most likely a Desert Kingdom citizen turned assassin, and (B) that humans will sometimes turn on each other for power if they're backed against a wall, like the rest of the nobles.

* TheWomanWearingTheQueenlyMask: Diana is an oddly benevolent ruler, for a place as harsh as the Desert Kingdom, but the Snake God help anyone foolish enough to mistake her gentleness for weakness. In private though, she's mostly... tired.

* LoveableCoward: Despite some early unjustified cruelty toward Rune, it's hard not to laugh at his antics.

* MalevolentMaskedMan: He wears a black mask, and
