Has to be directly called out

* FreudianExcuseIsNoExcuse: During the final battle in [[spoiler:Brooklyn]], Bowser rants to Mario as he tries to attack the plumber, stating that his wedding to Peach is the only thing that makes him happy, and now, because the wedding was ruined, Mario is going to suffer like him. However, his horrific actions prior to this (destroying the Penguin Kingdom, forcing Peach to marry him under threat of destroying her kingdom, trying to sacrifice all of his prisoners to a horrific fiery death, and then trying to kill Peach and carry out his threat of destroying her kingdom once she rejects him at the altar), coupled with the fact that Peach hates him and wants nothing to do with him, render this petty, and at the end of the day, Bowser cares for nothing but his own happiness and will do anything to achieve it, even if it mean destroying the happiness of others.

* AdaptationalRelationshipOverhaul: Implied - in the games, he is Bowser's adoptive father. While this isn't necessarily ''not'' the case in the film, his bootlicking is just vaguely flirtatious enough to cast doubt.

* {{Foil}}: To Luigi. It could be said that he's Bowser's wingman, just like how Luigi plays Mario up as "the best guy in the world". Unlike Luigi, [[BigBrotherWorship who loves Mario as his big brother]], Kamek is a sycophantic YesMan who tells Bowser what he wants to hear. It's likely that he only does so to save himself from the Koopa King's wrath.

* {{Foil}}: To Luigi. Both act as the right-hand man in a group (Luigi for Super Mario Bros. Plumbing, Kamek for Bowser's army) and have a strong admiration for the leader of the group. It could also be said that he's Kamek is Bowser's wingman, just like how Luigi plays Mario up as "the best guy in the world". Unlike Luigi, [[BigBrotherWorship who loves Mario as his big brother]], whose brotherly love for Mario]] comes from a lifelong bond of mutual care and support, Kamek is a sycophantic YesMan who tells Bowser [[BadBoss Bowser]] what he wants to hear. It's likely that he only does so hear out of a combination of blind obedience and to save himself from the Koopa King's wrath.
