* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: Trying to use Fran's [[spoiler: performance in the Ulmutt tournament to have her rank raised ran into stiff opposition. [[AppealToTradition First, there was opposition due to such an unprecedented, rapid rise in rank.]] [[JerkassHasAPoint Second was the fact that a controlled environment like a tournament is not an accurate assessment of true merit as an adventurer in the field.]] Third, most of those opposed simply don't believe Fran is ready for the position, and they're right.]]

* {{Camp}}: In the anime, he is extremely campy, wearing abundant eye-shadow, constantly grooming himself, and spraying perfume on himself and everything around him. The moment he loses his "Courtly Etiquette" skill, he suffers the SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome of developing an allergic rash to the excessive perfume and scratches himself so hard, he destroys his clothing and apparently his scratching is so severe, it also caused his hair to shed uncontrollably. Fran mistakes him for an undead considering how bad his appearance has become.

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: Just because the government of your country's most hated enemy country has changed doesn't mean that the resentment against that country is magically going to go away. If Johan's statements are accurate, and he believes they are, the attack his nation has launched upon the Beast Kingdom, spearheaded by Muriella and her dungeon army ''is retaliatory'' after 500 some-odd years of abuse and harassment.

* AnythingThatMoves: Quite literally. Although there's no mention of livestock, "Elza" has a strike zone that includes the 12-year-old Fran, the 80-year-old Guild Master Dias, and everything in-between, of both genders, with suggestions that Elza's "interests" [[PaedoHunt might actually be a broader field]].

* BoobsOfSteel: The manga and anime depict her with a large bust, and she's an experienced adventurer powerful enough to actually deliver a CurbStompBattle to Fran in their first fight.

* OverprotectiveDad: If you have romantic interest in Fran, you're going to have to go through him first, and he's not very forgiving.

* MyBelovedSmother: She's usually tame, but due to the [[MyGreatestFailure special circumstances]] involving Fran's late parents, Amanda dotes on Fran a little ''too'' much. This eventually culminates in Fran challenging Amanda to a fight just to get her to stop, and though Amanda wins, Fran's persistence gives her a much-needed reality check. Once she stops being so overbearing, Fran becomes more receptive of her.

* WhipItGood: Her weapon is a whip.

* KickTheSonOfABitch: Fran can be merciless in dealing with people she considers enemies, inflicting cold blooded torture before finally finishing them off. But considering most of them are violent bigots who have a long body count of innocent Black Cat victims behind them, it's hard to argue that they DON'T have it coming.

* AnArmAndALeg: One would be forgiven if they mistake him for the Black Knight from Monty Python after Fran gets through with him.

* HonestCorporateExecutive: All the other armor and weapons smiths are jealous of him and his establishment, trying to hire accomplices to acquire his goods to research and reverse-engineer them, because his work's not only high-quality, but he doesn't overcharge his clients.
* MagicEye: He's blessed with "Heavensight" skill that can let him bypass, at least partially, the "Identify Protection" skill where it concerns a weapon.

*** Subverted when she joins in on the Spider Den quest, she just flat out admits she was eavesdropping.

* KillerRabbit: She's a 12-year-old girl of the Black Cat Tribe, known as the weakest of Beastmen. She can mow down entire armies singlehanded.
