* DeaderThanDead: His ultimate fate, with his soul being essentially devoured by the Tree of Wrath.

* EvilIsNotAToy: Hinyu spends most of the series confident that the Tree of Wrath, a BotanicalAbomination filled with thousands of tormented ghosts is solidly on his side, is safe to borrow power from, and will never turn on him. He is proven horribly, horribly wrong by the final hour.

!! Princess Soyokaze / Yozora Yoshimoto

The leader of the Shade Rebellion, a member of the deposed royal family, and a former member of the Shade Kingdom's Pretty Cure team. Originally thought to be deceased, she proves to be alive and a major player in her own right.

* ActionMom: While she's not the best mother out there, she is fully capable of stepping up and kicking ass on her childrens' behalf when the moment calls for it.
* CallingTheOldManOut: On the receiving end of this, once it comes out that the twins are her daughters. Neither is happy to learn that they could have had a much more loving upbringing, had Soyokaze made slightly different choices.
* ChekhovMIA: Introduced as Seimono's long-thought-deceased friend, with the certainity of that death being on the dubious side. Indeed, she turns out to be very much alive and a major player in the story.
* DaddyHadAGoodReasonForAbandoningYou: Her sense of obligation towards her kingdom and desire to strike back against Kagemera led to her running out on her family and then giving up her two youngest daughters after they were born.
* AMotherToHerMen: Acts in this capacity towards the Shade Rebellion, who adore her, and takes every loss on her side very hard.
* ParentsAsPeople: While she's an overall heroic character, Soyokaze was more of a friend to her daughters than a parental figure when she was still in their lives, wasn't a very good wife to her husband, who she married for the sake of having someone to cling onto, and did more harm than good in her attempt to protect her youngest daughters. Even she is willing to admit that she screwed up majorly on this front.
* RegalRinglets: Wears her hair in this style, fittingly for a deposed member of royalty.
* ShockAndAwe: Controls lightning, a holdover from her time as Cure Kirin.
* {{Youkai}}: Based on an {{oni}}.
