Common Tropes:
* ChromaticArrangement: The colours that make up all or part of the flags for the Gaelic territories (Mann is red, Scotland is blue and Ireland is green).
* DysfunctionalFamily
* NiceHat: Beside UK's iconic top hat, England occasionally dons a flat cap, and Scotland often wears a tam o' shanter.

!The Nations

** Also don't violate neutrality.

* CompositeCharacter: England, Scotland and Wales usually appear as [=UKball=], although England tends to dominate the union and they are therefore often conflated for convenience.
* FootballHooligans: And not just about football. When he enters war, he is either AnOfficerAndAGentleman... or he curses like a sailor, hammers at people ferociously, and commits genocide/atrocities.
* HighClassGlass: Never seen (in modern times) without his gold monocle and chain.
* AnOfficerAndAGentleman: Some scenes show him as this in war, standing stoically against opposition in majestic poses.
* PerilousOldFool: Doesn't always realize that he isn't up to being the top world power anymore. Sometimes is put in a retirement home by the rest of the Anglosphere.
* QuintessentialBritishGentleman: Along with his stovepipe hat and monocle, he tends to use SesquipedalianLoquaciousness and behaves like a gentleman in general.
* RetiredBadass: Played with. He kicked ass back in the day, he still does it now... but there's a difference between being the worlds greatest industrial power and being a power that is, nevertheless, back to 1.5 of an island and significantly dwarfed by USA, China, and Russia.
* SeriousBusiness: Created and ran his empire for the sole purpose satisfying his demand for tea. Some might say it was to spread civilization, or for the power, but lets not kid ourselves, it was all about the tea.
* StiffUpperLip: He patented it; he has it. It saw him through hundreds of wars and disasters, and it will continually see him through.
* VagueAge: Is usually portrayed as an old senior with the colonies as his adult children, despite being around the same age or even younger than other country balls that aren't portrayed as particularly old.
* VitriolicBestFriends: He and France haven't forgotten all the years of fighting... but they're staunch allies now, and admit that with the other as a rival and companion, they can always find hope in their competition and cooperation.
** He is this with any of his allies really.

* BoisterousBruiser: He's always raring for a fight with UK, to mixed results.
* CompositeCharacter: An interesting case. Ireland [[DependingOnTheWriter may be treated as either or both of Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland]]. The former may appear as an individual or as part of a ''different'' composite character, although when he is not instead a part of [=UK=] the flag he uses is a point of contention.
* SixthRanger: Is not actually part of the UK, except for Northern Ireland, but often tags along.
* TrademarkFavouriteFood: Potato. The potato famine left him in a state of NothingButSkinAndBones. He also has had clashes with Latvia as to who is the true master of potato.
* TheChewToy: Got bullied by England before independence! England stole her food, and otherwise abused her!

* CompositeCharacter: Cornwall and, less frequently, other countyballs make an appearance alongside or instead of the rest of England.
* FootballHooligans: Is very passionate about football and will often get violent and unruly if things don't go his way.
* TheLeader: As stated above, dominates the Union and is treated in much the same way as [=UK=], albeit with a greater tendency toward violence and swearing.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: He's terrified of Normandy.
* WorkingClassPeopleAreMorons: In comics that contrast him with the posh UK, he's generally portrayed as being rather dim.

* TheUnintelligible: When speaking Welsh; comes close when speaking English as well, as seen by the fact that he is one of the only anglophone countryballs to use butchered grammar and spelling in some comics.
* WholesomeCrossdresser: Averted with the Rebecca Riots.
