* WorthyOpponent: She says she has met plenty of hotshot trainers that want to beat her husband Shining Armor and take his title from him, but none have what it takes to surpass him. However, she claims out of all of them, she believes Flash Sentry has the best chance of taking him on.

* TheBattleDidntCount: He claims after he loses to [[spoiler:Flash]] in the Balance Battle Tournament that it didn't prove anything because it wasn't a "real battle", just a "stupid game".

Added DiffLines:

* FatalFlaw: His absolute lack of teamwork. Although he already has a bad attitude, it is shown that when he and his Pokémon need to work with others they fail spectacularly, despite being strong individually. He views teamwork as something for weaklings to rely on because they can't accomplish anything themselves.
** He ends up losing Camp Everfree's double battle competition because he refused to cooperate with Trixie on anything, causing her Wizentice to get knocked out and his Chimplug to get double-teamed.
** In the Balance Battle Tournament, when three of his Pokémon need to battle together against three others, it is shown that his Pokémon have [[WeAreStrugglingTogether absolutely no teamwork together]], because he has not formed bonds with them they are all just strangers who happen to have the same trainer. This is opposed to Flash, who loves and respects all of his Pokémon like friends, and they have learned to work together and rely on each other. This results in [[spoiler:Lightning ''finally'' losing to Flash for the first time]].

** When he loses the Balance Battle Tournament to [[spoiler:Flash Sentry, after he spent the whole time boasting how he will never beat him at anything and after he beats him he will never accept another challenge from him, he just doubles down on his attitude, stating that [[TheBattleDidntCount the battle didn't prove anything because it wasn't a "real battle"]] and still refuses to see him as a strong trainer]].

* DarkIsNotEvil: Despite being part Dark type, Astro is pretty friendly, if a bit mischievous.

[[folder:Professor Cadance]]
Shining Armor's wife and Twilight Sparkle's sister-in-law.

* TheGhost: She is briefly mentioned in "The Equestrian Champion", when a fan of Shining Armor's says that he is married. She finally makes a physical appearance briefly in "Team Shadow Strikes Part 3".
* NaiveNewcomer: Despite being the oldest member of Flash's group, she ends up being this due to knowing the least about Flash or his accomplishments. She is surprised to see Flash and Springer are so close that he can understand what Springer says, and when she tries to talk Flash out of stubbornly insisting Astro will be able to beat Sugarcoat's Morgrem in a rematch, seeing it as an impossible matchup due to Astro's disadvantage, she finds herself without any support when everyone else, including Twilight, agrees with Flash.

Added DiffLines:

* TerribleTrio: A trio of criminals constantly causing trouble. Big Score acts as the leader with Rickashay and Boulder as his followers.
* VillainDecay: When they first appeared they posed as a legitimate threat, due to Flash still being a rookie with very little experience and planning skills. All subsequent appearances for them have them acting as little more than an annoyance to everyone. Even when they TookALevelInBadass by evolving their Pokémon and becoming threats again, they are easily defeated by Flash's team.
* WorfEffect: They both demonstrate this and suffer from this a few times.
** In their first appearance they easily defeat Flash and Twilight's Pokémon by ganging up on them, only to then be easily beaten by Doc.
** In "The Pokérus Training Ground" they are shown to have evolved their Pokémon and they make quick work of both Twilight and Doc, only to get [[CurbStompBattle curb-stomped]] by Flash and his team to show how much stronger they have become from all their training.

Added DiffLines:

* BreakTheHaughty: After being completely insufferable through his entire appearance, fighting dirty and talking down to everyone over how he and Fin will win the tournament, he is beaten in the finals by Flash and Riptide, the ones he insulted more than anyone else. He grows more unhinged as the battle between them goes on, until Riptide eventually wins. He is so shocked by this he doesn't say a word afterwards.
* BrilliantButLazy: He is clearly a smart trainer, managing to think of a clever (if a bit underhanded) strategy to easily win most of his battles in the Ocean Champion Tournament. But, he underestimates all of his opponents, especially Flash, and doesn't train at all due to believing his win is already guaranteed. This eventually leads to him and Fin losing to Flash and Riptide, even though Riptide has only been a Reptidal for a few days and is much less experienced than Fin.
* HateSink: It is clear from the moment he first shows up that he is ''not'' someone we are supposed to like. He talks down to Flash and Riptide, calling them both weak and mocking them for [[spoiler:their loss against Lightning Blitz]] and never stops boasting about how he is "guaranteed" to become the Ocean Champion. Plus he spends the entire tournament fighting dirty, something everyone calls him out on.

Flash calls him out on this, saying Wingill is the one avoiding actually batteling.

* BrokenPedestal: He idolized his grandfather Grand Hoof, the previous champion of Equestria, and thought he was the strongest trainer ever. But then six years ago, he saw Grand lose his title to Shining Armor, who Lightning viewed as just a nobody, and was shocked when Grand ''smiled'' after his defeat. This shattered Lightning's view of his grandfather completely, believing he had disgraced their family name.
* {{Expy}}: He is one for Paul. Both of them are huge {{jerkass}}es to TheHero of the series, constantly talk down to everyone around them, have an Electric type as their main Pokémon, a FreudianExcuse for their poor behavior, and believe that training weak Pokémon is a waste of their time. One of the ''only'' things they ''don't'' have in common, is that Lightning has yet to [[YouHaveFailedMe release any of his Pokémon for failing to live up to his expectations or losing a battle]].
* FreudianExcuse: He witnessed his grandfather Grand Hoof lose his title to Shining Armor, who he viewed as a "nobody", and saw Grand was smiling after he lost. This enraged Lightning, not understanding how Grand could be happy that he lost everything, even believing that Grand might have [[ThrowingTheFight lost on purpose]] since almost every Pokémon on his team he used was a new one. So now he is obsessed with being seen as the strongest trainer in Equestria to take back the title he believes was stolen from his family.
* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: Every time he shows even a sign that he isn't entirely bad, like helping save Flash and his friends, he covers it up with an alternative motive, like saying he was trying to catch the Pokémon that was attacking them, or saying he didn't want to risk the league getting canceled because Doc got hurt. Then he doubles down on all his jerkass traits in his next appearance as if to make up for it.
* NeverMyFault: After he and Trixie lose to Timber and Gloriosa, he blames Trixie entirely for the loss, even though he refused to cooperate with her at all during any of their battles, and his negligence got Trixie's Wizentice knocked out first, which lead to his Chimplug getting double by the two opposing Pokemon at once. Everyone else promptly calls him out on this, saying he is just being a SoreLoser, but he just storms out of camp, refusing to listen.
* TheRival: He is Flash Sentry's primary rival throughout the series, with both of them having conflicting views of a Pokémon's strength and how to bring it out.
* SoreLoser: Any time he loses he does not react well.
** When he lost to Doc in the Hoof Cup, he stormed out of the stadium in a huff, not even bothering stay and watch the rest of the tournament.
** When he and Trixie lose to Timber and Gloriosa in Camp Everfree's double battle competition, [[NeverMyFault he blames Trixie entirely for the loss]], even though he refused to cooperate with her in any of their battles. When he is called out on this by everyone else in camp, he just packs up his stuff and [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere leaves camp early]].
* UnsportsmanlikeGloating: It is undeniable that he is a strong trainer, but that doesn't give him the right to rub it in everyone's faces. This is what he does in every single appearance, mocking his opponents before and after their battles.

Added DiffLines:

* ArcVillain: Timber acts as the closest thing to a villain that the Camp Everfree arc has. Flash is constantly annoyed by his rude attitude to every Pokémon Flash tries to befriend at camp, and Timber acts as a [[ToxicFriendInfluence toxic influence on Twilight]], causing her to revert to her old way of thinking and nearly driving her and Flash apart, especially when Timber blatantly tries to steal her, and the rest of Flash's friends by extension, away from Flash.
* TheBadGuyWins: "The Summer of Adventures" ends with him and Politoad defeating Flash and Shuckle, despite Flash training all night with Shuckle to prove Timber wrong about it. To add further insult to injury, Celestia has Flash's cabin stripped of all but one pity point for staying up all night with Shuckle.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: He acts like a cool and friendly guy and jokes around with Twilight, but he blatantly talks down to many Pokémon at camp, not bothering to see what their true potential is and mocking anyone who ends p getting "stuck" with them (i.e. Flash). He also attempts to steal Twilight from Flash, trying to get her to join him on his own journey after camp, not caring how much this would set Flash back or if he would end up traveling alone because of it. After Twilight rejects his offer, Timber becomes a lot more antagonistic to her and Flash, even openly insulting Flash at one point during their double battle. This is also hinted at when Shine first hatches. Her official Pokedex entry states she can see into the hearts of others and hides away if she sense evil in them. While Shine instantly accepts Twilight and Flash, she is terrified of Timber.
* KnowNothingKnowItAll: He acts like he is an expert on Pokémon, but he really is just repeating the info he learned off their Pokedex entries. He views both Shuckle and Clauncher as being weak and lazy, but is shocked when they show how competent in battle they are, with Clauncher even [[CurbStompBattle curb-stomping]] a rampaging Gyarados.
* NotGoodWithRejection: On the last day of camp, Timber noticeable becomes a lot more hostile to Twilight and Flash after Twilight turns down his offer of traveling with him after camp.
* PyrrhicVictory: "Camp Town Races" has him just narrowly beating Flash in the race competition, but only because Flash stopped to save him from a fall. Also, Twilight ultimately decides to reject his offer of traveling with him and stay with Flash.

One of the co-directors of Camp Everfree and Timber's older sister.
----
* AdaptationalHeroism: She is never corrupted by magic here like she was in canon, and never went on a misguided rampage.
* CoolBigSister: When Timber tells her he wants to go on his own journey across Equestria and collect badges, she says he never needed her permission to leave.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: When Lightning starts causing trouble around camp, she puts her foot down with him. When it becomes clear that he doesn't care about the camp or the points given to the cabins, she punishes only him instead of taking points away from his entire cabin by forcing him to do dish-duty. Also, she actually ''thanks'' Flash for his efforts to befriend Shuckle, unlike Celestia, who punished him for staying up all night because of it.
* PetTheDog: After Flash spends the entirety of "The Summer of Adventure" as a ButtMonkey, she is the ''only'' person to show him any sympathy or respect by sincerely thanking him for helping Shuckle and becoming its friend.

Added DiffLines:

The youngest of a trio of sisters from Vocanctus, who holds a special connection with the Legendary Pokémon, Sirenity.
----
* AdaptationalHeroism: She isn't evil here like she is in canon, and wants to live a peaceful happy life with her sisters. She even legitimately [[spoiler:falls in love with Flash Sentry, but accepts that Twilight is better for him than her without issue]].
* BigNo: She lets one out in the first chapter of ''Voice of the Ocean'', after the apparent death of her sisters.
* BrokenBird: She becomes emotionally broken after the accident that apparently claimed the lives of her sisters. She spent the year afterwards depressed and unable to sing. She begins to get back to her old self after Flash befriends her and [[spoiler:she is reunited with her sisters]].
* TheGlomp: She tackles Flash to the ground in a hug when they meet again in "The Ocean Champion".
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: [[spoiler:She falls in love with Flash after everything he did for her in ''Voice of the Ocean'', but when she meets him and his friends again in "The Ocean Champion", she realizes that Twilight knows more about him than she does and is better for him than her. Instead of getting jealous or trying to compete with Twilight for him, she accepts this and happily hugs them both goodbye, whispering to Twilight that she gets it and Flash is all hers.]]
* KarmicJackpot: The act of stopping to help Springer get some water from the metal tap ended up helping her improve her life by having Flash notice her, and going out of his way to help her when she is attacked and help her overcome her grief.
* PetTheDog: She takes the time to help Springer get some water from a metal tap to cool himself off, even though she was still in a depressed state and had nothing to gain from it. She smiles a bit seeing Springer happy, until Flash arrives and she runs off.
* TookALevelInCheerfulness: She becomes much happier after Flash befriends her, and even more so when [[spoiler:she discovers her sisters are alive after all]].

* JerkassBall: She grabs it hard during the Camp Everfree arc. Upon arriving at camp and meeting Timber, she [[AesopAmnesia forgets everything she has learned since traveling with Flash and reverts to her old way of thinking]], also becoming a much bigger {{jerkass}} to Flash than usual, constantly insulting him and comparing him to Timber. This nearly leads to them deciding to stop traveling together entirely. Luckily, she drops the ball after having a JerkassRealization.
* WithFriendsLikeThese: Despite being friends with Flash, she constantly talks down to him condescendingly and never seems staisfied with what he does, leading to the two of them to have many arguments. She eases up on this a lot of the Camp Everfree arc, but still occasionally slips back into it, like when [[spoiler:she pushed his buttons too much during his HeroicBSOD after he lost to Lightning, leading to him to snap at her and the others]].
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre: She says this to Flash in "The Pokérus Training Ground" to help get him out of his HeroicBSOD, reminding him of everything he has accomplished and everyone he has helped, and how all their friends recognize he is worthy of being the next Equestrian champion, no matter how many times [[spoiler:he loses to Lightning]].

Added DiffLines:

* TheBabyOfTheBunch: She briefly shares this role with Hopper after she hatches, but then becomes the sole holder of it after he evolves. She finally grows out of it when Astro hatches from his egg, and she acts like a CoolBigSister to him.
* CryCute: She bursts into tears and leaps at Hopper hugging him when [[spoiler:Hopper needs to stay in the Dragon Kingdom to become the next king of the dragons, devastated that she is losing her best friend]].
* CoolBigSister: She takes up this role for Astro shortly after he hatches. She lets him bite her on her tail since she doesn't feel pain there, and then swings her tail around while he holds on to take him for a ride.
* ExcellentJudgeOfCharacter: Fitting with her official Pokedex entry, Shine can see into the hearts of others. Shortly after hatching, she immediately accepts Twilight and warms up to Flash quickly, but is terrified by Timber Spruce and hides away from him.

* BareFistedMonk: A Fighting type and knows moves such as Force Palm and Drain Punch.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: [[spoiler:When he was with his old pack, before he met Flash, he demonstrated its ability to use Aura Sphere without needing to evolve. The Lucario that acted as the pack leader recognized he was special and could easily take leadership from him if he evolved, so he lured him away and exposed him to the energy of an Everstone to prevent him from ever evolving, with implications he was also planning to kill him before Flash and Shining Armor interfered. Luckily things turned around for him quickly, when he was caught by Shining Armor and given to Flash after the two became quick friends.]]
* {{Foreshadowing}}: When first discussing evolution in "The Evolution Solution" and how Riolu normally evolve, the others say that Springer might be close to evolving soon due to his close bond with Flash and that it is surprising he ''hasn't'' evolved yet. Flash nervously says that evolution isn't everything and he doesn't care if Springer doesn't evolve. It is later revealed [[spoiler:Springer ''can't'' evolve because he absorbed energy from an Everstone, meaning he is unlikely to ever evolve]].
* PintSizedPowerhouse: Despite being small and unevolved, Springer shows he can still fight against opponents much larger than him.

Professor Celestia's assistant. Celestia has her join Flash on his journey so she can gain the experience needed to put her knowledge of Pokémon to good use. She frequently clashes and argues with Flash over their different views and approaches to situations. She eventually becomes one of his closest friends and confidants.
----
* AesopAmnesia: In the Camp Everfree arc, Twilight forgets everything she learned since traveling with Flash and reverts back to her old way of thinking. This is because she met Timber, who thinks a lot like how she ''used'' to think, and "justified" that way of thinking to her. She finally snaps out of it after having her JerkassRealization.
* AdaptationalJerkass: In canon Twilight could be a bit of a DeadpanSnarker at times, but was overall nice and helpful. Here, she is quick to throw insults at Flash for his attitude or questioning her judgment, and has even resorted to violence against him once or twice (albeit with it being played for laughs). She slowly grows out of this via her CharacterDevelopment.

Added DiffLines:

* AttackAttackAttack: Flash's original way of battling mainly consisted of just going full LeeroyJenkins and firing any attack at the enemy to see what works, without any real plan in mind. After he suffers a CurbStompBattle against Thorax, he finally realizes this way of battling isn't going to work, and starts training and strategizing more.
* AFatherToHisMen: Flash acts as this to all of his Pokémon, but it is especially this for Hopper. Flash was there for Hopper since the moment he hatched from his egg and has constantly encouraged him and helped him get stronger. Hopper himself realizes Flash has been [[ParentalSubstitute more like a father to him than a trainer]] which leads to him [[spoiler:evolving into Skeidran to save Flash from a Champagoon]].
* HeroicBSOD: Flash enters one after [[spoiler:his crushing defeat again Lightning Blitz in the finals of the Hoofington Battle Tournament]], feeling he let everyone down and failed to keep his promise to Grand Hoof, even wondering if his way of training his Pokémon is correct after all. This is unfortunately worsened when [[spoiler:he needs to leave Hopper in the Dragon Kingdom, so he can become the next king of the dragons]]. After pushing himself and his team for several days straight without resting, he finally comes out of it after letting his anger out to Twilight and [[YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre getting an encouraging speech from her]].
* IndyPloy: He initially didn't bother making a plan before his battles, because he knew it was impossible to plan for every little thing, and just made things up as he went, mainly by attacking a lot. He downplays this later when he starts making strategies beforehand, but still manages to come up with unexpected ideas on the fly that surprise his opponents.
* ObliviousToLove: Despite being a bit of a ChickMagnet, he is completely oblivious to their feelings for him. This is most prominent at the ending of ''Voice of the Ocean'', when [[spoiler:Sonata Dusk tells him she loves him, only for him to miss what she said due to the noise from the crowd nearby, and him being the only one in the group ''not'' to hear her confession]].
