The recreation instead rapidly found that the sheer immorality and societal decay of the Photoners was too much to handle, corrupting its photons into F-Factors and creating the Profound Darkness. For the hundreds of years that follow, these actions would lead to the extinction of their race, untold damages on a galactic scale, and the destruction of entire star systems and countless civilizations.

[[folder:Ancient Photoners (SPOILERS)]]
An ancient race responsible for the creation of the Oracle Fleet and ARKS. They were originally a race of space-faring humans, but upon coming into contact with Xion, they harnessed the ability to manipulate photons from which their society and technology grew at an expansive rate. Eventually, the Photoners decided to create a perfect copy of Xion that under their direct control, and after numerous attempts finally succeeded in at least one. However, their greed and evil only served to corrupt into the being that is now known as the Profound Darkness.

In response, the Photoners created the races of the Oracle Fleet who would then form the military organization ARKS as a way to combat the Falspawn threat. ----
* AGodAmI: The Ancient Photoners eventually adopted this attitude in regards to themselves as they saw all others as inferior and toys to play with and experiment on. Best seen in Luther and later in Shiva's group.
* AbusivePrecursors: Being the creators of ARKS and the Oracle Fleet races, they were this by the time they attempted to copy Xion. Their experiments resulted in the creation of Mother who, after being deemed a failure by the Photoners due to her free will and general weaker abilities, had been discarded into subspace and left to rot. This left Mother with a desire of vengeance against her creators, and that's not even getting into Shiva.
* EnergyBeings: At some point during the past the Photoners eventually became this, discarding their physical bodies in favor ones made of pure photons. The good ones that managed to remain eventually fused themselves with Xion and would later aid her in stopping Luther's plans.
* GalacticSuperpower: According to Aurora, the Photoner's reach once covered ''the entire known universe'' itself. Part of the reason they wanted to copy Xion was because they wanted something that could help govern their society because of how big their empire became.
* GreaterScopeVillain: To the setting ''Phantasy Star Online 2'' in general. Most of the bad things that happen during the plot are the direct result of the Photoner's machinations gone wrong be it the Falspawn in ''Episode 1-3'', Mother in ''Episode 4'', or Shiva in ''Episode 6''.
* HumanAliens: The Photoners were originally this, not looking any different from a regular human. To be expected considering that the Oracle Fleet races were created by them.
* UltimateBlacksmith: The original creators of the Cosmogenic Arms, powerful weapons that all ARKS weaponry are based off on.

After thinking about it, Ascended Extra doesn't really fit Sukunahime. Half of Episode 3's story is centered around developing her character and the history of Harukotan, and she ended up being the one responsible for the seal that ARKS would later use to bind Viel Matoi which gave the Protagonist the chance to save her. Knowing that it's kinda hard to actually call her an extra.

* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: Despite having a bodyguard, Sukunahime is very capable on her own, as shown in her introduction cutscene where she banishes a group of Black Folk with a flick of the wrist. She also provides support against Magatsu with the ''Sukunahime's Divine Protection'' buff, which boosts jump height, HP, and PP.
