Sanji is the fourth child of the Vinsmoke family, an infamous family of rulers-killers who once conquered the North Blue. Sanji had a highly abusive upbringing, and later cut himself off from his family, sick of the awful ostracism he received for being the only child among brothers and a sister born without genetic enhancements and a spiteful reminder of how his late mother bore a suicidal devotion to have her boys retain their humanity. His father, Judge, had Sanji retrieved in order to marry him off to one of Big Mom's daughters in order to form a political alliance. This reunion is deeply animous and forced upon him and only alleviated by his kind sister's presence. Sanji later must put his friendship on the line with his crewmates to deal with the threat of disobeying his family, who commands the clone soldier army for hire called Germa 66, and an Emperor of the sea, who could easily overwhelm the Straw Hat Pirates with her massive forces.

He has a bounty of 330,000,000 million berries [[note]] His first bounty was 77,000,000 Berries, awarded for his defeat of Jabra and involvement at Enies Lobby. He was, however, frequently unrecognized since his old wanted poster was a poorly-drawn composite sketch. His second bounty was 177,000,000 berries, received for simply being a member of the Straw Hats after Dressrosa. He also finally gained an actual picture for his poster (albeit a goofy take of him with his typical "heart" eyes). Due to his father's meddling, he was also briefly wanted only alive at this time, unlike the other Straw Hats and every other known criminal (who are all "dead or alive"). * AlmightyJanitor: At least at first. During the Alabasta Arc, he went around kicking ass without even being recognized as a Straw Hat. He wasn't as well known as even Usopp at that point, but he's still in the top three fighters of the crew. It still kinda applies, as despite being Zoro and Luffy's equal in fighting ability, Sanji still doesn't have the third highest bounty of the crew; that would be Usopp (originally, it was Robin). And his skill as a spy and saboteur would no doubt also merit him a higher bounty, if not the fact that he's so good at such things that the World Government ''hasn't found out about those skills yet''.
** Not to mention that the photo for his bounty poster wasn't even him, but a badly drawn picture that barely resembles him, meaning he was the hardest member to identify. That has changed after the time-skip, as someone finally got a solid picture of him (even if he is depicted going love-nuts in it).
** Averted as of after the Dressrosa arc, the World Government has caught up with his presence and real identity and has given him a 177 million Berries bounty, which increases further to 330 million Berries after the raid on Totto Land, currently making him the crew member with the third highest bounty after Luffy and Jimbei, but before Zoro.

** In fact, this is arguably Sanji's specialty in the crew, next to cooking. Sanji is a master saboteur and spy, and thus the only member of the crew that specializes in black ops skills besides Robin and, to a lesser extent, Nami. He's so good at it that for a long time, this skill set was unknown to everyone but the crew and a select few others, allowing him to essentially screw over many a villain's plan because they didn't know how dangerous he really was.
