Tomoko's and Tomoki's mother.

Tomoko's and Tomoki's mother.parents.

* ExhaustedEyeBags: Like both of her children, though hers are substantially less visible. Also, judging by [[https://www.reddit.com/r/watamote/comments/61m6y4/volume_11_bonus_postcard_young_watamom_and_her/ a bonus drawing by Nico Tanigawa]], she got eye bags at a later age than her children did. Mr. Kuroki is the same, going by Chapter 121.

* LockedOutOfTheLoop: She has no idea that Tomoko is a loner with no friends [[spoiler:until chapter 90, when Ogino mentions this during their parent-teacher conference]]. In fact, Tomoko actively tried to hide this from her mother, e.g. by lying to her about having fun with her classmates in one of the Christmas specials.
* NoNameGiven: The only reason we even know her last name is because we know her children's. She's exclusively called "mom" in-universe.
* ParentalFavoritism: Played with. She loves both Tomoko and Tomoki equally, but is often exasperated at her daughter for being lazy and irresponsible. This causes Tomoko to become slightly resentful whenever her mom praises Tomoki for his maturity and self-reliance.

* TheFaceless: Of all his family members, Mr. Kuroki the only one to not have his face be fully shown whenever he appears in the manga. The only hints we get are that his eyes look just like Tomoko's.

Added DiffLines:

* StrongFamilyResemblance: As we see in Chapter 121, she gets her particular brand of ExhaustedEyeBags from her father.

Added DiffLines:

* {{Jerkass}}: Downplayed. He's not outwardly hostile, but he's so apathetic that considering the needs of other people is just something he can't be bothered with. For instance, he rushes through his portrait assignment with Tomoko and leaves, not caring at all that she still needed to use him as a reference.

* OnlyFriend: For Yuri before Tomoko entered the scene.

to:

* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: The incident in chapter 99 that made Tomoko think that Mako might be a lesbian involved [[spoiler:Mako following Tomoko to the bathroom stall, covering Tomoko's ears so she wouldn't hear her classmates badmouthing her, then holding Tomoko's hands and asking Tomoko to be her friend (with her face very close to Tomoko's) - while they were still in the bathroom stall.]]

* CharacterDevelopment: Slowly but surely, Tomoko matures a good deal over the course of her second year. She dials back on her ill-thought schemes to become popular to the point where she eventually gives up on them entirely, doesn't stutter nearly as often as before, is more comfortable in public places like cafés, lets go of a lot of the resentment she felt towards her peers, shows occasional bouts of consideration for others, and is more studious and responsible in general. By the end of the year, she even manages to get herself a small group circle of friends and acquaintances to regularly socialize with.

* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Nothing frays Tomoko's nerves more than attractive boys. Even after her social skills improve enough that she can communicate with strangers without tripping over her words, she still turns into a nervous, stuttering puddle of goo in the presence of hot guys.

* CharacterDevelopment: Albeit slowly. By her second year, she's dialing down her schemes to become "popular" and noticed by everyone, just aiming to befriend and talk to people. She's also become more comfortable at cafés and other public places. She also doesn't stutter as much when talking to people she doesn't know. [[spoiler:However, she's also reignited an old feud with a middle-school classmate who ended up in the same school as her. Interestingly enough, during the second year school trip arc, she gets even more sociable than before]]. Chapter 116 openly acknowledges that the friendless girl from the beginning of the manga has managed to make some friends.

* TheHeart: Since Tomoko, Mako, and Yoshida are more friends with her than they are with each other, Yuri is pretty much the glue that holds them together. Despite being an introvert, she convinces them to attend the class end-of-the-year party with her just so they can all have one last chance to hang together.

* OnlySaneWoman: She notices how much of an idiot Tomoko is, but still makes an effort to befriend her. She does the same for Yoshida.

Added DiffLines:

* ObliviousToLove: Tomoko is completely unaware of Ucchi's growing fixation with her and is confused whenever Ucchi does something nice for her. More understandable than many examples, as after the school trip the two rarely interact directly, so Tomoko has few opportunities to notice Ucchi's overtures.

* NotSoDifferent: Her social life isn't actually that much better than Tomoko's. Both girls are shown to only have one person they consider a true friend (who in both cases is a girl who is more popular and sociable than themselves - Yuu in Tomoko's case, Mako in Yuri's) and aren't shown to be socializing much with other students (though eventually Tomoko and, to a lesser degree, Yoshida become Yuri's acquaintances). Before the second year class trip, when Yuri found out that she can't be in the same group as Mako, she did not join any other group of her own will. The main difference is that Yuri's OnlyFriend is in the same school and class as Yuri, unlike Yuu.
