* FinancialAbuse: While the family doesn’t technically get paid for being on the show, they get reimbursed for their living expenses. Jim Bob is the one who gets the money and uses it to keep his adult children under his thumb since they have no real means to provide for themselves. Notably, Jill got some sort of settlement for lost wages for participating in the show but has since been shunned by him.

* BrokenBird: With being unable to divorce her unfaithful husband (who also sexually abused his sisters), it's very clear that she's not the same person she was when we first met her.
* ExtremeDoormat: She's staying with Josh not only after it was revealed that he molested his younger sisters, but also after she learned that he cheated on her. Her siblings even offered to help her and the kids if she left him and she told them no.

The eldest of the titular nineteen kids. He is married to Anna Duggar, née Keller.

* BlackSheep: With her family's extremely conservative lifestyle, she is this, with being the most secular of them all.

* BlackSheep: Since getting married, she wears pants, tank tops, and short skirts, and shorts. She also moved away as soon as she tied the knot and waited more than a full year after marrying to become pregnant, unlike the rest of her sisters. She also lives in Los Angeles while the rest of her siblings have stayed fairly close to home.

* BlackSheep: With having a job prior to being on the show and wearing pants, she definitely doesn't fit the mold of a traditional Duggar wife.

* BlackSheep: She wears jeans, listens to rock music, and goes on dates without chaperones. According to Josiah in an earlier episode, even though she's "different", they still like her.

* {{Jerkass}}: He blatantly doesn't like anything that's outside of their lifestyle. He also makes fun of other cultures, such as not taking the time to learn some basic Spanish when he and the family traveled to El Salvador. There's also his OverprotectiveDad status towards his daughters and very sexist views on women.

* EmbarrassingNickname: "Turd" and "Pest" are his among the snarkers due to all the horrible things he's done.
* FreudianExcuse: While he’s done unquestionably horrible things, it’s also worth noting that he grew up in an extremely conservative household with little to no proper sexual education, no way to express his natural curiosity, and was forced to suppress all sexual feelings until marriage. It was probably inevitable that one of the kids would act out and it’s really no wonder why he turned out the way he did. It also doesn't help that his parents enabled him the first time he acted out and didn’t get him the help he needed, as, generally speaking, kids who do what he did as a teen grow up to have healthy sexual relationships [[https://smart.ojp.gov/somapi/chapter-5-effectiveness-treatment-juveniles-who-sexually-offend if given the proper help]]. They continue to enable him and put him on a pedestal.

John-David's wife and mother of their daughter, Grace Annette. She's an LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) from Oklahoma who works with geriatric patients.

Jill's husband and father of their sons, Israel David and Samuel Scott.

* EmbarrassingNickname: "Turd" is his among the snarkers due to all the horrible things he's done.

* IllGirl: She was born prematurely and spent months in the hospital before she could come home.

* AmbiguousDisorder: He seems to have a huge ego, and likes to manipulate people.

* AmbiguousDisorder: He seems to have a lack of empathy, a sense of right and wrong, and has a constant need for sexual gratification. In the words of his family, "he was a different person and living a double life". He was arrested for possession of child porn in the spring of 2021, ultimately being convicted of the charges on December 9, 2021.

* AmbiguousDisorder: She has admitted that she has some mental health issues, though there was no clear diagnosis as to what it is.

* AmbiguousDisorder: It seems she has a fear of people abandoning her, since both of her sister-moms (Jill and Joy) have been married off. She even had a few breakdowns during a couple episodes that focused on Joy's wedding.

* GenreSavvy: He's ''very'' aware of how much ExecutiveMeddling goes on with the show, which was one of the reasons he and Jill left. He's even named a few tropes such as TheTeetotaler in some interviews.

* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: While he may hold these views, his past comments on social media (you know the ones) [[AlternativeCharacterInterpretation could be seen as this to ensure that he and Jill would be fired from the show.]]

* PromotionToParent: This is taken UpToEleven. It's shown she runs the household, and even knows things about it that Jim Bob doesn't, like the password blocking access to the internet.

The eleventh child and sixth son, and Jedediah's twin.

* AmbiguousDisorder: He seems to have a lack of empathy, a sense of right and wrong, and has a constant need for sexual gratification. In the words of his family, "he was a different person and living a double life". He was arrested for possession of child porn in the spring of 2021.

* WeHardlyKnewYe: Didn’t make a single appearance on Counting On prior to its cancelation in June 2021.

* NotSoDifferent: Much to fan's dismay, she's starting to become this with her parents. It's not surprising since she's now the new favorite among the daughters for doing everything her parents tell her to.
