* {{Foil}}: To All Might. All Might is the highest ranking hero in the world and uses his fame to inspire others, while Aizawa has a slovenly appearance and shuns the spotlight. All Might in his prime has incredible strength and stamina, whereas Aizawa has great skill, but prefers to strike quickly and with the element of surprise, as he lacks the endurance for long, protracted battles. Lastly, All Might's power empowers him with the strength of many men, and his personality is to build up those who have the desire to do good. Aizawa's Quirk robs others of their powers, and his personality is to tear down those who he feels show no potential. Their relationship in several ways mirrors the one between American superheroes Superman (All Might) and Batman (Aizawa) with All Might as the mighty superhero who fights his enemies with overwhelming power and Aizawa as the brooding anti-hero who relies more on skill than brute force.

* LuckyTranslation: His Quirk comes from his eyes, and the first syllable of his last name, "Ai," is pronounced identically to the English word "eye."

** Unsurprisingly, he's also brutally honest with Aoyama regarding [[spoiler:his being the traitor at U.A., saying that his sins will stay with him forever, and he may not be able to return to U.A. once all is said and done. However, he also says he intends to protect Aoyama, and has no intention of letting him die alone, burdened by guit.]]

* BadassBaritone: Aside from being a very formidable Hero, Aizawa also has a pretty deep voice, courtesy of Creator/JunichiSuwabe.

* CharacterDevelopment: It's very subtle, but it's implied that thanks to 1-A being cut from a different cloth thanks to their experiences fighting dangerous villains way earlier than their peers, and this is what makes him lower his walls and start to treat students less aloofly. This starts with Izuku proving him wrong during the Quirk Apprehension test at the beginning, and even through his many threats to do so, he never ''actually'' expels any 1-A student despite being proven to have done so multiple times before. [[spoiler:Even when Aoyama is revealed to be the traitor feeding information to All For One, he reassures him that he ''still'' has no intention of expelling him, showing he has well and truly accepted the class as his own and lightened up on his strict teaching methods.]]

* SinkOrSwimMentor: Will expel entire classes if they're not up to his standards, and is not above showing tough love to the students that do meet them. For example, he doesn't warn Class 1-A in advance that [[ThePerilsOfBeingTheBest other hero schools will be out to get them during the license exams]], or that the competition knows about their Quirks for their own self-development. Real enemies won't give them warnings, so neither will he.

* CreepyGood: He looks like a villain, sometimes acts like one, but is second only to All Might and Deku in the ChronicHeroSyndrome department.

* CombatPragmatist: Since Aizawa's Quirk only impacts other Quirk users while offering him no direct physical advantages and operates under a strict time limit, he long ago figured out that fighting superpowered opponents "fairly" would only get him or others killed. So he instead uses whatever tools or tactics he can come up with to end fights as efficiently as possible. While he is a capable fighter, he tries to avoid direct combat if possible, preferring to ambush opponents when possible and timing his Quirk usage for maximum effect in fights. This is best shown during the USJ Arc when he purposely waits to use it in order to give himself an advantage and disorient his opponents. He encourages this mindset with his students as well, teaching them to treat their fights are matters of life and death and their enemies will not share their sense of honor.

* BatmanParody: A DownplayedTrope, mostly seen in contrast to All Might's SupermanSubstitute. He uses skill and tactics over brute force and power, is a PerpetualFrowner and TheStoic along with bein TheComicallySerious, and overall deals with threats in a more brutal nature akin to TheCowl. The main difference is that unlike Batman, he has powers, though they are of limited use.
