* PutOnABus: After spending the first game as a major part of the cutscenes, she's suspiciously absent from ''We ♥ Katamari'' while the rest of her family receives focus, and outside of the occasional [[TheCameo cameo]], she [[LongBusRide doesn't come back]] until ''Katamari Forever''.

* AscendedExtra: In ''Katamari Damacy'', Tomio was the Hoshino with the least focus, as he only appeared during the final two cutscenes once his family made it to the space center. In ''We ♥ Katamari'', he's instead the Hoshino with the ''most'' focus, as he's the client for the final stage in the game. Curiously, Mizue is [[PutOnABus nowhere to be seen]].

Tomio's wife. Spends most of ''Katamari Damacy'' trying to get her children to a place where they can watch her husband's ship take off, while ignoring Mutsuo's attempts to point out the weirdness unfolding around them.

* {{Flanderization}}: In the first game, he only yells "Called off!" in response to his lunar expedition being... well, called off. Come ''We ♥ Katamari'', however, and "Called off!" has become his CatchPhrase.

* ParentsAsPeople: The King's relationship with the Prince is... Complicated. As shown in ''We ♥ Katamari'', it's clear he does genuinely love his son, but his [[FreudianExcuse own complicated relationship with his father]] has given him a very skewed perspective on how to be a father; a fact that is sadly TruthInTelevision, as people who were abused by their parents as children are likely to be abusive to their own children when they have kids. Still, it's shown that the King is at least ''trying'' to be a better father than his own father was, as unlike his father, the King is at least willing to give the Prince praise whenever he does do a genuinely good job.

** In We ♥ Katamari, the Prince will often approach him with a fan's request, to which he will state that they do not have time for such frivolous matters, only to change his mind when the fan compliments him in some way, fixating on it
