!Light Cruisers (CL)
The next ship class from Destroyers, Light Cruisers have better armor and hit points compared to Destroyers, and can equip heavier guns as well (up to 20.3cm, the same guns Heavy Cruisers have). They have the second-highest evade values after Destroyers, and like them can still attack submarines via depth charges. They can also equip and launch seaplanes for scouting, but this is generally only done after they are remodeled.
* ThemeNaming: All of them but the ''Katori''-class[[note]]They are named after Shinto shrines, as they are training cruisers.[[/note]] are named after Japanese rivers.

In real life, Tenryuu and her sister ship were laid down as UsefulNotes/WorldWarI was coming to a close and went into active service after. They were already old ships when UsefulNotes/WorldWarII finally broke out, but unlike their contemporaries the ''Kongou''-class, they never received any upgrades [[note]]There were plans to convert them into AA cruiser shortly before the war, but this was never carried out.[[/note]], which made them hopelessly obsolete. This fact is reflected in their relatively poor in-game stats.
