* HundredPercentAdorationRating: In Episode 16, the higher-ups of Hiden convene to determine whether or not to remove Aruto as President. When they vote for Aruto's removal, ''no one other than Jun raises his hand.'' It also speaks volumes about the executive board when after [[spoiler:ZAIA buys out Hiden Intelligence]], most of them resigned instead of choosing to be demoted. Sanzo even asked Aruto to reconsider leaving the company and instead work as a lower-ranking member. Notably, even a large number of the ''villains'' have respect for him.

* TheChainsOfCommanding: He is responsible for the company and whatever happens with the [=HumaGear=] is automatically blamed on him. The pressure starts growing exponentially after [=MetsubouJinrai.NET=]'s attack on the hospital in episodes 9 and 10, leaving him pressured.

* {{Determinator}}: Like many Riders before him, he has a resolute streak that drives him forward through the good and bad. In the first episode he charges at the Berotha Magia unarmed to save people and getting knocked around doesn't stop him. He also does not lose his conviction even when [[spoiler:he loses the Workplace competition against ZAIA and thus his company, instead he just keeps walking with a face of grim determination complete with the episode title showing underneath him]].

* HonestCorporateExecutive: In contrast to villains such as [[Series/KamenRiderExAid Kuroto Dan]] or [[Series/KamenRiderBuild Juzaburo Namba]], Aruto runs on this in order to defend people from [=MetsubouJinrai=].net, as well as to clear Hiden Intelligence's reputation and have everyone live in harmony with the [=HumaGears=] without any form of misunderstandings. He begins asserting his credentials regarding this as early as episode 2, where rather than try to cover up the Magia situation as Jun tries to do, Aruto makes the identities of the true culprits public knowledge, complete with video evidence, and then in episode 4 where he reveals that the Daybreak Incident was also caused by [=MetsubouJinrai.net=] in order to exonerate a lab technician that was blamed for it. In the same episode, he also revealed his Zero-One identity to Isamu, making his secret identity last for only 3 episodes.

* NiceGuy: Aruto's dream is to make people smile. It was why he became a comedian. This dream also means ''protecting'' smiles, like [[Series/KamenRiderKuuga a certain other Rider who was the first of his era.]] And he respects [=HumaGears=] and cares for them very much. A good example is from episode 2, where Aruto has a friendly conversation with a security [=HumaGear=] named Mamoru and thanks him for protecting the employees at Hiden Intelligence. Aruto sees a wound on Mamoru's arm and it reminded him of his father, so he decides to give him a handkerchief bandage to cover up his wound. [[AndroidsArePeopleToo He even tells Mamoru that they are a family together after finding out his grandfather gave Mamoru his name]].

* SitcomArchNemesis: He considers Fukkinhoukai Taro as his personal rival in comedy for not only taking his job back in Episode 1 but also being better at making people laugh. Though the whole thing where he becomes a Magia and has to fight him as Zero-One is a different story.
** Even when Gai becomes his regular Arch-Nemesis, he ultimately ends up being the one to humiliate him more.
* StartMyOwn: [[spoiler:Starting from episode 30, Is creates a brand new company named HIDEN Manufacturing for him, with him as the president, with the primary purpose to rebuild and protect [=HumaGears=] following Gai Amatsu's recall.]]

** Compared to the [=MetsubouJinrai.NET=] Riders, whose rough and heavy armor has a deliberate lack of elegance to it, Zero-One's armor is sleek and lightweight. This even applies to himself as Zerozero-One, who otherwise shares the aesthetic of the other Force Riser users.

* PhlebotinumBreakdown: An engineered version. Episode 23 begins with Aruto discovering that the [=MetalCluster=] Hopper Key had some kind of effect on the Zero-One Driver that makes it not authorize any of his normal Progrise Keys anymore. This means that at the moment, Aruto's only choices are to use the highly dangerous and unstable [=MetalCluster=] Hopper form or to abandon being Zero-One entirely.

** Our view inside the Ark and later a direct analysis of the [=MetalCluster=] Hopper key makes it abundantly clear that the [=MetalCluster=] Hopper form is powered by this, specifically the Ark's hate. It is later replaced by ThePowerOfFriendship from all the [=HumaGears=] Aruto has helped between the first episode and episode 24.

* GoodIsNotSoft: Just because he cares about his former allies does not mean he will go easy on them, as he easily crushes Gai, Yua, and Fuwa with a disturbing amount of ease and disabling their ability to transform into Riders. This later takes a disturbing dive in episode 44 when he brutalizes Fuwa after Fuwa gets in his way as Ortheros Vulcan.

* NotSoDifferent: Losing Is and turning into the new Ark is somewhat similar to Gai's StartOfDarkness when he lost his pet robot Thouser as a young boy. The main difference here is that while Gai became a cold CorruptCorporateExecutive with [[LackOfEmpathy no empathy towards anyone]] other than himself, Aruto becomes TheBerserker hellbent on revenge and never goes to some of the extremes Gai did.

** Hellrising Hopper isn't designed for use by a flesh and blood human body, similar to forms like Assault Wolf. Unlike Assault Wolf, the safeties are so lax that just throwing a punch causes Aruto to break his arm, after which the suit agonizingly repairs it in a ''very'' painful way. The form also builds up energy with each attack, and at one point Aruto literally ''explodes'' while he's manhandling Eden, effectively turning him into an ActionBomb.

* GodzillaThreshold: The Hellrising Hopper Progrisekey is this. [[spoiler:Initially, Aruto attempts to use it in order to defeat S, but the second he accesses the form, he attempts to destroy the Progrisekey while its still inside the Driver as it drives him mad.]]

* CycleOfRevenge: The ultimate deconstruction of Aruto's vengeful descent into villainy is that it results in this situation: when Jin dies protecting Horobi from Ark-One's finisher, it causes Horobi to go through ''exactly the same process'' that Aruto did, complete with taking up an Ark form from As.

* KickTheSonOfABitch: Delivers an absolutely brutal beating to Horobi as Ark-One in retaliation for him killing Is.

* ViolenceIsTheOnlyOption: Deconstructed. With Is's death, Aruto discards all attempts in trying to get through to Horobi and becomes hellbent on destroying him if it means justice for Is. However, all this really does is ignite a CycleOfRevenge that only gets worse when Jin dies to stop him from destroying Horobi, leading Horobi to the exact same fate Aruto caught himself in.

* AllLovingHero: Is a DeconReconSwitch on this character archetype due to the series emphasizing that his deep empathy for humans and [=HumaGear=] alike and his desire to see them live and work together peacefully also means that he feels ''very deeply'' when either is hurt. The first hint comes when his anger at Gai causes Shining Assault Hopper's chestlight to glow with the same ominous red light as the Ark, and when [[spoiler: Horobi kills Is despite Aruto [[UngratefulBastard trying to reach out and appeal to his better nature for so long]], it drives Aruto to accept the power of the Ark and become Kamen Rider Ark-One. The reconstruction comes once he realizes that he's simply perpetuating a cycle of endless hatred that will destroy the world, leading him to reject Ark-One's power, allowing him to gain Realizing Hopper, defeat Horobi, and talk Horobi around to a HeelRealization and HeelFaceTurn.]]

** Another form of growth within Aruto applies to his fighting style as well. His first experience with a weapon, the Attache Calibur, in the series, had him fumbling with it and taking some time to properly deploy, an awkward moment since he was already transformed into Zero-One. The epilogue movie ''REAL×TIME'', on the other hand, has him wielding the Attache Calibur with such finesse that he's able to [[spoiler: fling it across a large church hall with enough speed and precision to stop [[TheStarscream Bell]] from killing [[HeelFaceTurn Rihito]] with a close-range attack]], ''untransformed''.

* PlotSensitiveSnoopingSkills: [[spoiler: Jin]]'s suspicions on [[spoiler: Ikazuchi]]'s abrupt HeelFaceTurn in #39 go entirely unheeded by Aruto despite him having been direct witness to the latter's history as a ManchurianAgent. It gets [[spoiler: Aruto beaten to the brink of death and his Driver seized by Ark-Zero]].

* SecondPlaceIsForWinners: [[spoiler: Double subverted. While he still lost his position at HIDEN Intelligence after the Workplace Competition, his grandfather's specific patenting assured that he still has ownership over what Gai was after in particular, leaving him free to use his resources to create HIDEN Manufacturing and continue their battle.]]

* TookALevelInBadass: Aruto was already fairly competent in the beginning of the series, but he goes through several more levels after fighting [=MetsuboJinrai.net=] and Gai Amatsu. To boot, he went from getting his ass kicked by Gai to serving multiple [[CurbStompBattle ass-whoopings]] in return with ease. Not to mention, his business savvy gets a major boost after being the CEO of Hiden Intelligence and [[spoiler: Hiden Manufacturing.]]

* RealityEnsues: In ''Real x Time'', Aruto attempts to destroy the Hellrising Hopper Progrisekey while its inside the Zero-One Driver so as to prevent S from using it and complete his plans. Sadly for Aruto, the Progrisekey's influence and S' interference prevents him from doing just that.

*** Of that same film, [[TheHeavy Will]]/[[ShadowArchetype Another Zero-One]]'s attitude can be considered a mirror reflection of Aruto's mindset during his time as Ark-One, with how they are each given their corrupt power (by Finis and Azu respectively) a direct parallel to each other. It should also be noted that the outfit Aruto wears when he first becomes Ark-One is the very same one he wore when he first met Will.
** Throughout the show, Aruto more and more has been using the Ark's power and technology. First, by using the Assault Trigger - a creation of the Ark - to bolster the powers of Shining Hopper, then, he is forcibly given Metal Cluster Hopper, giving Aruto a direct connection to the Ark and temporarily consumed by its power, even ''willingly'' using it when it was his only option despite the risks attached.
** During the Workplace Competition arc, it's been demonstrated that when exposed to or feeling enough malice, ''both'' [=HumaGears=] and humans can transform into the MonsterOfTheWeek, coming under the Ark's influence as a result.

* MyGodWhatHaveIDone:

** In the finale, he lets go the guilt and pain he has and fully becomes a hero once again, fighting Horobi out of catharsis instead of anger.

* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: Deconstructed. Despite insisting that his only objective is to kill Horobi, ''Zero-One'''s endgame illustrates just how much chaos he can inadvertently cause in such a simple pursuit, starting with all of the other human Riders losing their powers by his hand, escalating to Jin dying as collateral damage to save Horobi, and only getting worse from there as As takes advantage of the situation to make both of them cause even more destruction.
* SanitySlippage: Even as he insists that he's only doing the bare minimum required to deal with his obstacles, it becomes increasingly apparent that Aruto is losing his grip on reality, hallucinating the inevitable future where he and Horobi remain as Ark Riders and delivering a brutal assault on Fuwa to force him out of Ortheros Vulcan.
** He regains his sanity in the finale, shaking off As's influence and fully becoming a hero again, thanks to Soreo giving him a much-needed pep-talk that helps him regain his composure and remember the ideals that led him to start his journey.

* TraumaCongaLine: As a child, he lost both his biological father and his surrogate robotic one within the span of a few years. The events of the show proper are far from kind to him either, with every victory matched by a terrible setback.

* BerserkButton: In general, people who mistreat [=HumaGears=] or disrespect people's dreams. Gai quickly turns himself into Aruto's biggest berserk button of all, both because he's responsible for everything that's happened and because he's an arrogant prick.
* BokeAndTsukkomiRoutine: Although his intended comedy act falls flat, the show itself manages to derive much humor from him and Is playing off each other when she explains the joke. This ironically makes Aruto the tsukkomi in the dynamic, when he’s trying to play the boke, something Fukkinhoukai Taro lampshades in the [=YouTube=] special.

* TheChainsOfCommanding: He is responsible for the company and whatever happens with the [=HumaGear=] is automatically blamed on him. The pressure probably starts growing exponentially after [=MetsubouJinrai.NET=]'s attack on the hospital in #9 and #10.

* ContrastingSequelProtagonist: Aside from being the first of the new era to contrast with the last of the previous era, Aruto's goals and character are far more mundane than [[Series/KamenRiderZiO Sougo Tokiwa's]]. While Sougo was a seemingly normal high school student who was destined to become the ruler of time, Aruto is an adult CEO whose dream is to become a comedian. Sougo's dream is absurd, but well within his abilities, while Aruto's dream is modest, but impossible due to his utter lack of comedic talent. Instead, Aruto follows his dream to make people happy in a new way as CEO of Hiden Intelligence. It's impossible for Aruto to be comedian but it is possible to still make people happy in other areas. [[spoiler:They both used the malicious power (Oma Zi-O for Sougo and the Ark for Aruto) at the end of their series, but while Sougo used it to defeat the BigBad and repair all the damage caused, Aruto let it go and used his own power to end the conflict without killing his final enemy.]]

* ContrastingSequelProtagonist: The LightIsNotGood Ark-One is this to the DarkIsEvil [[Series/KamenRiderZiO Oma Zi-O]], as both are the forms the main characters have and eventually take on that symbolizes their status as a FallenHero and both are formed by the protagonist willingly embracing dark powers born from witnessing the death of a loved one; Geiz for Sougo and Izu for Aruto. However, Oma Zi-O, [[AllYourPowersCombined which combined the powers of all Heisei Riders]], originally belonged to Sougo's [[FutureMeScaresMe villianous future self]] which the present Sougo sought to avoid thoroughout his series, while Aruto, who has directly been fighting the Ark and its minions, becomes its host [[RevengeBeforeReason for revenge]] by using ThePowerOfHate before and during his time as Ark-One. How they are each dealt with is also notable: Sougo never fully succumbed to the power of Oma as proven when he willingly gave up the power to repair all of the worlds, while Aruto goes through an HeelRealization and allows Ark-One to be destroyed to overcome his malice.

* KickTheSonOfABitch: Delivers an absolutely brutal beating to Horobi as Ark-One in retaliation for him killing Izu.

* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:After a pep-talk with his father, Aruto lets go of the malice he has for Horobi once and for all, finally transforming back into Zero-One and becoming a hero once again. He even becomes the Aruto we all know and love once again, ending the show with a bright smile on his face.]]

* AntiVillain: Aruto may be on a mission to kill Horobi using the power of malice incarnate, but that is his only goal. When facing his former allies, he would rather avoid fighting them altogether. And when that isn't an option, he merely resorts to non-lethally incapacitating them. When he kills Jin by accident, he starts to have a panic attack.

* CruelMercy: It's hard to consider pulverizing Fuwa as "merely" Zero-Two until the Ortheros Vulcan suit can't take it anymore and explodes in his face a kind way to spare him.
* CycleOfRevenge: The ultimate deconstruction of Aruto's vengeful descent into villainy is that it results in this situation: when he kills Jin, albeit by accident, it causes Horobi to go through ''exactly the same process'' that Aruto did, complete with taking up an Ark form from As.
* FallenHero: After losing Is, Aruto willingly becomes Ark's vessel and turns from a hero to anti-villain as Ark-One. Even when he turns back to Zero-Two, he doesn't drop the villainous traits at all, considering it ''[[CruelMercy mercy]]'', further emphasized by the fact that it now emits the same human screams as the Ark when transforming. However, it's shown frequently that he regrets his actions, and tons of [[ArmorPiercingQuestion Armor-Piercing Questions]] from Naki and Fuwa leave him in a state of utter confusion. He may have done some despicable things out of his own will, but that doesn't mean that his heart isn't there. At the core of his personality lies a fragile young man who only wanted to do the right thing, and they know that, which is why Fuwa trusts him to do the right thing when he confronts Horobi. In the finale, he averts this thanks to his pep-talk with his dad. Aruto lets go of the hatred he has for Horobi and decides to fight him out of catharsis - not revenge.

* GoodIsNotSoft: Just because he cares about his former allies does not mean he will go easy on them, as he easily crushes Gai, Yua, and Fuwa with a disturbing amount of ease and disabling their ability to transform into Riders. This later takes a disturbing dive in episode 44 when he begins brutalizing Fuwa, even when seemingly aware that his Shotriser will eventually explode under the pressure of Ortheros Vulcan and thus he simply has to outlast him.

* HeelFaceRevolvingDoor: Briefly became an AntiVillain for the last four episodes until Soreo showed up to break him out of his Ark-induced funk.
* ItsPersonal: He disables the transformation devices of Gai, Fuwa, and Yua and warns them that his only problem is with Horobi.

** Breaks down in tears after detransforming from Ark-One in #42, heartbreakingly stating this:

* NobleDemon: Although he's a FallenHero, Aruto's malevolent impulses are focused on Horobi, leaving him with no wish to harm others unless he's forced to. When he's confronted by Fuwa, Yaiba and Gai on his way to Daybreak Town, he initially tries to get past them and continue on his way without a fight. Once violence becomes unavoidable, he disables them by rendering their Drivers inoperable and leaves them otherwise unharmed.

* NotBrainwashed: The main thing that makes Aruto becoming Ark-One so shocking both in-universe and out-of-universe is that his descent into villainy is ''all him'', and all As had to do was simply reach out her hand and watch as he inherited the Ark's power in ''earnest''.
* NotSoDifferent: Losing Is and turning into the new Ark is no different from Gai's StartOfDarkness when he lost his pet robot Thouser as a young boy. The main difference here is that while Gai became a cold CorruptCorporateExecutive, Aruto becomes TheBerserker hellbent on revenge.

* LogicalWeakness: As amazing as Shining Hopper's ability to change attacks in an instant via {{Flash Step}}ping is, it won't matter if the opponent is either fast enough to react to the sudden changes or tough enough to endure the attacks outright, both traits that Thouser possesses. However, the more powerful strength and abilities from [=MetalCluster=] Hopper are able to overpower Thouser with ease.

* PainfulTransformation: Hellrising Hopper is excrutiatingly painful for Aruto, both before and after he inserts the Progrisekey into the Zero-One Driver.
