* ContrastingSequelProtagonist: Both [[Series/KamenRiderZeroOne Isamu Fuwa]] and Rintaro are {{Experienced Protagonist}}s who are associated with the color blue and are also the main secondary Rider of their series. However, Fuwa got his Rider form at the beginning of his series while Rintaro became a Rider before his series even started. Personality-wise, Fuwa has a HairTriggerTemper and comes off as rash and reckless (though he gradually mellowed after getting his CharacterDevelopment), while Rintaro is far more level-headed, careful, and laid-back. He also instantly got along with Touma at first before their friendship become strained temporarily due to his loyalty in the Sword of Logos before he defects from the organization after realizing the corruption from his superiors, while Fuwa took some time to warm up to Aruto before he finally rebelled from A.I.M.S due to the same circumstances. This even extends to their AnimalMotifs, as Fuwa as Vulcan is themed around the wolf (a canine), while Rintaro as Blades is themed around the lion (a feline).

* BunnyEarsLawyer: She's hyper-energetic and obsessed with social media, but from what we see she seems to be a fairly responsible editor who does her best to make sure Touma stays focused.
* TheChick: She's the emotional center for the swordsmen, [[ShipTease particularly]] Rintaro.
* ContrastingSequelMainCharacter: Both [[Series/KamenRiderZeroOne Is]] and Mei are assistants to the main protagonists of their series. * MissionControl: Is slowly building herself up to be this. She initially appeals her usefulness for the Sword of Logos through her info-gathering skills from her social media, and after she has been accepted as an ally Sophia grants her a book that alerts her for any ongoing Megid incidents, which she keeps at her side at all times since.

* PluckyComicRelief: Her exaggerated reactions to things are a source of much of the comedy in the series.
* PluckyGirl: Is surprisingly eager to dive headfirst and help with any activities or issues the Sword of Logos have going on, regardless of the dangers.

[[quoteright:280:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yuri_75.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:280:The Sword(sman) of Light]]

* AttentionDeficitOohShiny: When it comes to observing unknown things, he has the attention span of a caffeinated fruit fly. Considering he is 1000 years out of the loop, most modern everyday objects are unknown to him. He can't even hold down a conversation around the model landscape in Touma's bookstore.
* BigDamnHeroes: He appears before the Sword of Logos to protect Touma, and subsequently hands them [[CurbStompBattle a one-sided asskicking]].
* {{Catchphrase}}: "Amazing, isn't it?"[[note]]''Saikou da na.''[[/note]]
* CloudCuckoolander: To put it frankly, Yuri is very ''odd'', even with the multitude of other personalities within the show. Modern everyday products fascinate him extensively and he has the attention span of a goldfish when he gets interested in something. And there's something to be said about his ambiguous wordings most of the time. Given that he's been stuck in Avalon for a millennia, this is justified.
* TheComicallySerious: He always maintains a straight face whenever he is engaged in silly antics.
* ConstantlyCurious: Over how much humanity had advanced during the millennium he had been stuck in Avalon, to the point that he will play with almost anything he could get his hands on.
* DorkKnight: He tops Rintaro in this aspect, and due to his lack of social skills he frequently engage in silly antics similar to a toddler and has Mei to babysit him at times.
* FaceOfAThug: Downplayed, of a sort. Yuri looks fairly intimidating at first glance, but once one gets to know him - it's pretty easy to see that he's actually a major CloudCuckoolander.
* FishOutOfTemporalWater: Even more so than ''[[SociallyAwkwardHero Rintaro]]'' when interacting with the human world. Justified, as it's said that he has been stuck in Avalon for ''a thousand years''.
* GenderBlenderName: "Yuri" is usually a feminine name in Japan (though it is sometimes used for males), but a common masculine one in Eastern Europe.
* GoodCounterpart: [[spoiler:His moniker as the "Sword of Light" isn't without reason--he's the ''Kougouken Saikou,'' the ''Kurayami'''s sister sword. Though he wasn't originally the ''Saikou''.]]
* GoodIsNotSoft: He is as dedicated to protecting civilians and striking down the Megid as Touma and the Sword of Logos. ''Unlike'' Touma, [[spoiler:he has no qualms whether or not the Megid in question is human... except that he has ''[[SubvertedTrope no]]'' intention of killing humans. He's fully capable of separating Megid from their human hosts as ''Saikou'', he's just so obtuse that Touma didn't know he could and thought he was trying to kill the victim.]]
* HatesBeingTouched: Mainly towards Tetsuo.
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:Uses his healing abilities to heal the wounded swordsmen at the cost of himself. He ends up vanishing from the world. He returns sometime later after Touma becomes Wonder World's new guardian.]]
* InstantCostumeChange: He can copy the clothes of anyone just by looking at them.
* InTheHood: All of his appearances until the proper introduction have him wearing his hood that helps hide his identity.
* {{Irony}}: He initially mocks a comic book titled ''[=SwordXMan=]'', which features a hero who [[{{Foreshadowing}} looks eerily similar to his Rider form]], for having a supposedly naïve main character he deemed unfit to uphold justice. After witnessing said naivety in action with Touma and its quirks, he takes a severe interest in the comic. It later on even becomes a basis for one of his forms.
* LackOfEmpathy: It's not deliberately malicious on his side; he is just ''that'' oblivious. The beginning of Chapter 17 shows that he is genuinely happy to see Touma and just doesn't seem to notice or understand why the other Rider is freaking out despite standing in the middle of the bookstore he himself broke in and absolutely trashed.
* MysteriousStranger: Both to the audience and to Touma. He played this role for the first 15 Chapters, being an otherwise unseen observer to Touma's actions [[spoiler:alongside Tassel]]. We only get to see his appearance properly in Chapter 15, and he introduces himself to Touma in Chapter 16.
* NoNameGiven: He was merely known as the "Hooded Man" until a press release of Chapter 16 revealed his name to be Yuri.
* NoSocialSkills: This guy manages to somehow top both Rintaro and ''Tetsuo'' in this respect. He has absolutely zero idea on how the human world works and is either extremely vague or extremely blunt when speaking. And there is no in-between. As such, Touma and Mei have a ''very'' hard time understanding what he's trying to say until ''after'' the fact.
* OhCrap: Whenever Tetsuo decides to examine or have physical contact towards him, Yuri reacts with fear.
* OlderThanHeLooks: Yuri has the appearance of a man in his mid-to-late 20s, but being in Avalon for 1000 years obviously changes that.
* PoorCommunicationKills: A side effect of his FishOutOfTemporalWater nature is that he's either speaking vaguely or ''very'' bluntly, meaning a lot of what he tries to say goes sailing over people's heads. [[spoiler:For example, the fact that his attacks as ''Saikou'' can separate a Megid from its human host. His vague, honestly menacing sounding, wording made it seem like he thought the only solution was a ''MercyKill''.]]
* SealedGoodInACan: A self-inflicted kind. Not only did he fuse himself with the Robust Blade of Light ''Saikou'' to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands, he further locked himself away in Avalon for extra protection. It was until meeting Touma there a millenium later that he finally decided to step out of Avalon in order to tag along and continue observing the young man, whom he sees as TheChosenOne.
* SecretTestOfCharacter: In a way, him giving Touma the '''King of Arthur''' Wonder Ride Book was this. He actively encouraged Touma to give up trying to obtain the power and subjected Touma to a test to see if he could handle its power. When Touma succeds in using the Wonder Ride Book, and although still skeptical, Yuri put his trust in the young man. * LightEmUp: ''Saikou'' wields bright light as its Element. It can even control darkness to an extent, given that the two are sibling elements and one can't exist without the other. Presumably, this only extends to darkness its own light creates, and not anything that ''Kurayami'' conjures.

*** Saikou X Sword Man Powerful forms a walls of Manga projection from his Powerful X Sword to protect bystanders from the enemy's attacks.
*** ''X Sword Man'': Saikou delivers a double slash that splits a human from a Megid.
* NinjaPirateZombieRobot: He's an ancient swordsman who turns into comic book armor that he attaches onto his shadow doppelganger to mimic a western superhero.

* {{Catchphrase}}: "Amazing, isn't it?"[[note]]''Saikou da na.''[[/note]]
* HatesBeingTouched: Mainly towards Tetsuo.

** Zooous is one to him, as he was the one who caused his master's death.
** Insulting or even causing distrust to the Sword of Logos is another huge one. [[spoiler:He loses it and attacks Touma when he questioned the organization having a traitor amidst them.]]
* BlueIsHeroic: Besides his Rider form, Rintaro wears a dark blue swordsman garb outside his transformation.
* BreakingOldTrends:
** Unlike most Riders who use regular two-wheeled motorcycles, he uses a three-wheeled motorcycle, a modified [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BRP_Can-Am_Spyder_Roadster Spyder F3T]] of all bikes, as his Rider Machine.
** Unlike many secondary Riders who started off as cold and hostile towards their main Riders but eventually warmed up to them after their CharacterDevelopment, Rintaro breaks this trend and gets along well with Touma from day one. Many secondary Riders started off as an AntiHero obsessed with revenge, but Rintaro starts off as a heroic Rider who's clearly fighting for the greater good.
* BridalCarry: He does this to Mei in Chapter 7.
* CantCatchUp: Played For Drama. Chapter 30 sees Rintaro constantly confronted with the idea
that Shadow dons.
[[InferioritySuperiorityComplex he's inferior to Touma]] due to the latter's developing ability to [[spoiler:separate people from Megid]]. He begins [[HeroicBSOD desperately over-exerting himself]] trying to [[spoiler:awaken his own blade]] and save Mei, which [[ViciousCycle keeps failing and results in more overcompensating]]. He reaches such a RageBreakingPoint he [[spoiler:[[StupidSacrifice willingly offers to throw his life away against Zooous so Touma can save Mei himself]]]]. Touma [[spoiler:saves him instead]], to his complete shock.
* LivingShadow: Well, [[CaptainObvious duh]]. However Shadow truly ComicallyMissingThePoint: He understands that entering with your shoes on is one, considered rude in Japanese culture, so when he meets Touma and Mei for the first time, he's riding on a blue lion inside the bookstore, thinking this is okay. This is forgivable, due to his FishOutOfWater status.
* ConsummateProfessional: He's not nearly to the extent of Tetsuo, but his loyalty is to the guild first and foremost and deviations from that clearly do not sit right with him. As much he cares for his fellow swordsmen, he doesn't tolerate them going out of line for irrational judgements and unruly behavior.
* ConflictingLoyalty: After Touma was labelled
as it a traitor by Reika, Rintaro still wants to understand him but at the same time he refuses to believe Touma's warning that there is born potentially a traitor in the organization and that is mainly due to considering them as his family.
He also instantly got along with Touma at first before their friendship become strained temporarily due to his loyalty in the Sword of Logos before he defects
from the light organization after realizing the corruption from his superiors, while Fuwa took some time to warm up to Aruto before he finally rebelled from A.I.M.S due to the same circumstances. This even extends to their AnimalMotifs, as Fuwa as Vulcan is themed around the wolf (a canine), while Rintaro as Blades is themed around the lion (a feline).
* DefectorFromDecadence: Technically applies to all
of Saikou the swordsmen, though Rintaro's the one that directly plays this out. Even with TheConspiracy (and Reika's emotional manipulation) [[TheUnfettered nipping at the heels of his conscience]], it took [[spoiler:confronting Isaac of his own choice]] to finally [[HeelRealization put the organization's corruption on full display]]. Rintaro's new goal is to [[SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong return the organization to the straight and lifts up narrow]].
* {{Deuteragonist}}: He gets the second most amount of focus after Touma, and goes through quite a profound character arc.
* DorkKnight: Despite being a competent swordsman and far more knowledgeable about the Megid and Wonder Ride Books than Touma, he's also quite a major FishOutOfWater due to the fact that he's from Wonder World and only knows about this world from books he read. As such, he doesn't really know a whole lot about our world and has to rely on Touma and Mei to guide him.
* EarnYourHappyEnding: The betrayal arc was a long beatdown for Rintaro. He was separated from most of his friends, [[spoiler:found out the guild he devoted his life to serving was corrupt and had one of his friends turned into a Megid, by the same figure who killed his mentor to boot]], leaving him with severe self confidence issues. He gets over it at the end of the arc and not only [[spoiler:saves his friend, but also unlocks a new SuperForm and avenges his master by killing Zooous]].
* ExperiencedProtagonist: Compared to the relatively new Touma, he's been working as a swordsman for Sword of Logos for some time now.
* FightingYourFriend: Positive example in Chapter 31. After overhearing Touma [[spoiler:[[ShutUpHannibal reinforce to Zooous his belief in him]]]], Rintaro [[spoiler:challenges Touma to a duel]] to alleviate his [[InferioritySuperiorityComplex feelings of]] [[CantCatchUp inadequacy]].
* FriendOrIdolDecision: Rintaro's personal conflict in the second arc is grappling with his devotion to the Sword of Logos coming at odds with his newfound friendship with Touma. Chapter 20 illustrates this by him attempting to reach out to Touma, having them fight the Megid like old times, only for the attempted reconciliation to turn sour when Touma insists on finding the traitor within the guild.
* FullNameBasis: Befitting his polite nature, he calls everyone by their full name with the appropriate honorific when he first meets them. Otherwise, he usually sticks to calling people by their first or last name depending on the situation. This even extends to him referring to humans as ''Homo sapiens'', the scientific name.
* GeniusBruiser: He has an immense amount of knowledge thanks to reading quite a few books and is an experienced swordsman. In situations with the Megid, his immense knowledge does help; in social situations... [[DorkKnight not so much]].
* HeroicBSOD:
** Has a major one in Chapter 29 where [[spoiler:after finding out Isaac' true intentions and getting beaten by Durendal, Rintaro weeps over having believed his devotion to the guild was for nothing. Touma has Rintaro snap out of it after getting him to admit that he wanted to set the guild straight and stating that they'll do it together]].
** Chapters 30 and 31 has him suffer another one when [[spoiler:Mei is transformed into the Neko Megid]], as the monster keeps [[BreakThemByTalking poking at Rintaro's inability to save Mei himself]] to the point he [[spoiler:almost makes a StupidSacrifice]]. It took a re-affirming duel bewteen him and Touma to snap him out of it and [[spoiler:awaken ''Nagare'']].
* InferioritySuperiorityComplex: Develops one toward Touma in Chapter 30 after [[spoiler:his attempts to awaken the Nagare and save Mei continue to fail]]. It takes [[spoiler:a fierce duel between the two]] in the following Chapter for this to go away.
* ItsPersonal: Has a fierce rivalry with Zooous due to the latter killing his [[ParentalSubstitute mentor]], the previous Kamen Rider Blades.
* LegacyCharacter: Is actually the second person to bear the title of Kamen Rider Blades, inheriting it after the death of his master.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: In Chapter 18, he attempts to finish off the recent human-turned-Megid, [[spoiler:only for Touma to jump in front of the attack and get himself severely injured in the process. Rintaro can only stare in shock at what he just did.]]
* MyMasterRightOrWrong: To the Sword of Logos, due to being orphaned at a very young age and being raised by them. As such, he sees them as a very precious surrogate family and would rather side with them even if their morals are being questioned, and will not tolerate any insults towards them. It isn't until Chapter 29 that he begins to question this, culminating in [[spoiler:a failed confrontation with Master Logos A.K.A Isaac himself]].
* NiceGuy: He's overall very polite, if not a little awkward due to his FishOutOfWater status.
* NoSocialSkills: He's a very polite gentleman, but he's hilariously awkward in socializing while away
from the ground, as if it Wonder World.
* OnlySaneMan: DorkKnight he may be, but he's the one that plays the sane man whenever the others are being particularly ridiculous. In a more serious light, he has no problem calling the others out for their irrational judgement and unchecked behavior.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness:
** The moment that Zooous reveals that he
was the shadow for a humanoid form for Saikou. It can also alter its body being able to stretch, and make itself incorporeal so one that attacks killed his master fifteen years ago, Rintaro drops his composed demeanor and even objects can pass through it.
* NoSell: As Saikou Shadow is a LivingShadow, almost every attack its way will just phase through it. The only way to actually stop it is by attacking Saikou. Saikou Shadow loses its invulnerability when Saikou uses X Swordman.
* YouWillNotEvadeMe: As Chapter 18 demonstrates, you can throw everything you have at Shadow and [[NoSell
becomes absolutely none furious. This even extends to his fighting style: while usually finessed and technical, he regresses to an uncontrolled, reckless style that barely scratches Zooous.
** Despite the appearance that he's JustFollowingOrders from Reika, his genuine anger at Touma and sudden impulsiveness when the latter tries to stand his ground against [[BloodKnight Ren]] suggests there's more to that than it seems.
** Rintaro's defection from the Sword
of it]] will slow, stop, Logos was done of his own choice but not done on his own terms. Needing to [[spoiler:be saved by Touma so many times while being unable to save Mei in turn]] instills feelings of inadequacy in Rintaro that [[spoiler:the Neko Megid]] preys on. The stress becomes so intense he [[StupidSacrifice almost throws his life away]]. It takes a duel between him and Touma to [[spoiler:awaken the Nagare and restore his resolve]].
* RaisedByTheCommunity: He was adopted and raised by the Sword of Logos from a very young age, having no knowledge of who his parents are.
* RedOniBlueOni: A downplayed version with Touma. He's the calm, polite Blue to Touma's fiery, but laidback Red. It's even ColorCodedForYourConvenience. Also inverted, because Touma's fierce nature is steady, while Rintaro's emotions tend to come out in big, self-destructive waves.
* SeriousBusiness: The realization Zooous killed his master causes him to go into NoHoldsBarredBeatdown mode, which actually bores the Megid into [[NotWorthKilling not even]] wanting to kill him.
* SociallyAwkwardHero: In battle, he's a skilled warrior who can take down hoards of Megid with ease. Outside of the battlefield, he really means well, but comes off as socially awkward due to his FishOutOfWater status and lack of true social skills outside of what he read in books.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Before an official spelling came out, no one knew if it's supposed to be Kamen Rider Blades, Kamen Rider Blaze,
or inconvenience it something more obscure like Brace, Braise, or Braze; or even a made-up word like "Blays". It was then revealed to be "Blades" through merchandise.
* StupidSacrifice: Almost makes one in Chapter 30 when his HeroicBSOD reaches a breaking point and he [[spoiler:throws himself at Zooous]] so Touma can make another attempt to liberate Mei. Touma [[spoiler:saves ''him'']] instead.
* SweetTooth: Seems to be attracted to sweets, a fact Mei exploits early on.
* UndyingLoyalty: Is firmly loyal to the Sword of Logos on account of having been raised by them since childhood. This gets deconstructed hard
in the ''slightest''.
second StoryArc, where he still clings to Sword of Logos even as his fellow Riders start to leave on account of the increasing corruption going on within the organization. The revelation that [[spoiler:even the leader of SOL is in on the corruption is what finally [[HeroicBSOD breaks him]].]]
* TheUnsmile: Appears to Touma and Mei with a smile that is absolutely unassuming even though he truly means well.
* ToBeLawfulOrGood: Rintaro struggles greatly with the choice of fighting for the organization he's spent his whole life with despite increasingly sinister implications or joining Touma in unrooting the conspiracy at the expense of the life's he's always lived, growing more anxious as his colleagues leave one-by-one. He ultimately chooses to be Good and defects from the Sword of Logos after [[spoiler:learning Isaac's true intentions]].
* YoureNotMyFather: Says this to Shinjiro in ''Trio of Deep Sin''. While he may be his biological father, he does ''not'' have the loving care of one.

The kick pushes one of the icicles all the way through the opponent's body and sends them crashing back to the ground.

a Megid.
* NinjaPirateZombieRobot: He's
bright flash of light that allows Blades to escape with an ancient swordsman who turns ally in a cloud of water vapor.
* {{Flight}}:
** Blades can fly in the air thanks to the Pegasus and Peter Fantasista books.
** Tategami Hyoujuu Senki can transform its mane
into comic book armor a set of eagle wings for aerial combat.
* ForceAndFinesse: While Touma brute-forces his way through battles due to his inexperience and lack of knowledge of the Wonder Ride Books, Rintaro is far more refined in his fighting style and can clearly handle Wonder Ride Books with a fine control
that he attaches onto Touma lacks.
* HookHand: When using the ''[[Literature/PeterPan Peter Fantasista]]'' Wonder Ride Book, Blades gains a hook on
his shadow doppelganger to mimic a western superhero.
left hand.
* PostModernMagik: ''Saikou'' is an ancient sword KingOfBeasts: His primary form uses the Wonder Ride Book ''Lion Senki''.
** Tategami Hyōjū Senki takes it further
with a massive mane and a visor akin to a roaring maw. It also plays this more literally, as the reason this is the reason he can summon the powers and aspects of other animals in this form.
--> "The battle-worn silver mane carving a path through the blizzard for the countless beasts heeding his path!"
* LandSeaSky: Tategami Hyōjū Senki allows Blades to harness the power of land, sea, and sky creatures. Seen in its debut fight where it uses the flight of an eagle, and the underwater prowess of a shark alongside Blades' typical lion motif.
* LegacyCharacter: Tategami Hyōjū Senki takes it UpToEleven by being the spirits and wishes of Blades' predecessors - including his master - in Wonder Ride Book form.
* MidSeasonUpgrade: King Lion is Blades's first, akin to Vulcan's Assault Wolf. Also they both get guns added to their armor.
* PowerFist: His King Lion Booster functions as Saber's does, though obviously switching the element from fire to water.
* PowerHair: Hyōjū Senki's mane can detach and [[SwissArmySuperpower transform into a select few tools]], including [[PowerGivesYouWings a pair of wings]] and a [[ThreateningShark shark construct for swimming]].
* SetBonus: Blades is the first Rider to have all three of the same Wonder Ride Books together (in Nagare element: Pegasus, Lion, and Peter Fantasista), and this is known as a ''Wonder Combo'' when an Element has a full set. In Blade's case his combo form is called '''Fantastic Lion''' and this form greatly enhances his water element, in addition to allowing him to glide and fly due to both Peter and Pegasus.
* SimpleYetAwesome:
** His first upgrade merely looks like an evolution of his base form, though with more armor and technology, in contrast to Saber going full KnightInShiningArmor. That said, it still works and looks quite impressive and heroic.
** While Tategami Lion Senki has strong abilities in its disposal, Rintaro uses a simple move: flash freezing the ground instantly and disabling his opponents movement. It worked effectively on his rematch on the Shindai siblings especially Ryoga who abuses TeleportSpam.
* SuperMode: Tategami Lion Senki, which is a ''gigantic'' upgrade on all his previous forms in terms of sheer power with the added bonus of [[AnIcePerson powerful ice abilities]] and the ability to turn his mane into a fin for moving fast underwater or [[PowerGivesYouWings wings to fly]]. The only things the heroes have
that existed at least a millenia ago, but Yuri has updated exceed it to use the modern-day ShowWithinTheShow ComicBook ''[=SwordXMan=]'' as a basis for this NextTierPowerUp.is Xross Saber [[spoiler:and ''[[AllYourPowersCombined Wonder]] [[EleventhHourSuperpower Almighty]]'']], and [[RealityWarper those are kind of cheats]].

[[caption-width-right:250:Young Kento]]

* ArchnemesisDad: Hayato betrayed the Sword of Logos fifteen years ago for unknown reasons, which of course Kento has serious problems with. Unknown to Kento, however, when he meets Kamen Rider Calibur in the present, Hayato is long dead and Kamijo has taken up his mantle.
* AntiVillain: Despite being in direct opposition to the Sword of Logos, he intends to seal away all the Sacred Swords all by himself, believing it will save the world from its destruction.
* BackFromTheDead: Subverted in that he was never dead to begin with, but instead sealed within ''Kurayami''. He somehow managed to escape.
* BadFuture: ''Kurayami'' showed him multiple timelines where the world is destroyed because of the Sacred Swords. This is what ultimately leads to him believing that sealing the Sacred Swords will prevent that future from happening.
* BeingTorturedMakesYouEvil: An [[AntiVillain incredibly loose definition]] of "evil," but yes. Being flooded with images of [[BadFuture very grim futures and grisly ends]] has robbed Kento of any hesitation in fighting his friends.
* BerserkButton: Kamen Rider Calibur is one to him due to the actions of his father from fifteen years ago. The button then shifts to Calibur's true identity upon discovering that it is not Hayato under the suit.
* BigDamnHeroes:
** He rescues Saber and Blades from their first encounter with Calibur and is on the receiving end from Rintaro, which he regrets.
** This is how he makes his wondrous comeback, defending Mei from a berserk Touma and knocking the latter out of his transformation with Yuri's help.
** In Chapter 29, he frees Sophia and helps her escape from the Southern Base.
* CameBackWrong: His time within the Kurayami destroyed him completely, explaining his monotone speech and DullEyesOfUnhappiness.
* CannotSpitItOut: Kento's fatal flaw is his inability to collaborate with others, thinking [[IWorkAlone he can solve all of his issues himself]]. This gets him fatally wounded by Kamijo during their final duel. It reaches its peak later on when he returns as Calibur, as [[SecretKeeper he stubbornly refuses to elaborate on any of the Bad Futures he's trying to avert]] despite unexpected changes to the timeline happening in front of his face and Touma's repeated attempts to reach out to him, which [[PoorCommunicationKills makes things harder not just for himself but the people he's trying to save too]].
* CharacterTic: Has a tendency to touch his head behind his ear, the area his dad used to [[AffectionateGestureToTheHead ruffle]] when he was a kid.
* ChildhoodFriend: To Touma and Luna. Unlike Touma, he's never forgotten about her.
* ContrastingSequelMainCharacter: Both Kento and [[Series/KamenRiderZeroOne Yua Yaiba/Kamen Rider Valkyrie]] are the main tertiary Riders of their series that started off as allies to the main rider before turning to the dark side and assuming darker forms of their heroic selves during the second arc; Yua becomes the Fighting Jackal Raider due to her being mind-controlled by Gai Amatsu as his enforcer against Aruto Hiden while Kento takes the mantle of Kamen Rider Calibur during his revival and crusade to seal the Seikens after he was crushed by the repeated bad futures he encountered while being sealed within Kurayami which caused him to clashed with Touma Kamiyama and his allies.
* DarkIsNotEvil: While his goals do put him at odds with his fellow swordsmen and his friend, Kento is not acting maliciously and genuinely intends to save the world. He just thinks the only way to do so is to seal all the Sacred Swords.
* DePower: He can do this with ''Kurayami'', which was made for the purpose of sealing away Seikens. As shown in Chapter 33 with Kenzan, though, he seems to only seal away the Seikens ability to use a Wonder Ride Book's power. In the case of swords such as ''Suzune'', this effectively renders the Seiken useless. In Hayate's case, sealing one of the swords only seals half of the Seiken of Wind's power, hence why Kenzan was still able to transform.
* {{Deuteragonist}}: Arguably is the series most vocal character after Touma himself.
* DisappearedDad: The reveal of Daichi Kamijo being the current Kamen Rider Calibur raises a few questions behind what happened to Hayato, and Kento is determined to discover the truth. Chapter 15 would later reveal that Kamijo killed Hayato during their confrontation fifteen years ago.
* DiscardAndDraw: After Kento was sealed within ''Kurayami'', his personal sword ''Ikazuchi'' came into Touma's possession. He takes up ''Kurayami'' after he manages to escape his imprisonment. When given a chance to reclaim ''Ikazuchi'' in Chapter 35, he chooses to keep ''Kurayami''. Come Chapter 40, he returns to wielding ''Ikazuchi'' and taking the mantle of Espada.
* DullEyesOfUnhappiness: After he escaped from ''Kurayami'', his eyes became lifeless and broken as a result of the sword showing him multiple timelines that end with the world destroyed and his friends dead.
* FaceHeelTurn: Getting sent to Kurayami and back caused Kento to believe the only way to save the world was to seal the Sacred Swords, causing him to go against the other Riders once he escaped.
* GenerationXerox: Ends up not only as Calibur, but also a WellIntentionedExtremist just like his father.
* GoMadFromTheRevelation: {{Downplayed}}, but after his return, Kento is clearly suffering from some form of PTSD and the visions he received from ''Kurayami'' have convinced him that he needs to fight his friends in order to seal their swords away, although it's abundantly clear that he's miserable about having to do the task.
* HazyFeelTurn: Yuri's words to him in Chapter 34 seem to have this effect on him, as he saves Touma and Ren from Bahato when there was no reason.
* HeelFaceTurn: By Chapter 39, his trauma has faded away and he rejoins Touma and the Northern Base.
* HeroicSacrifice: Chapters 36 and 37 reveal this to be Kento's response to the visions he had of Touma dying. He attempts to seal Issac away directly using the ''Kurayami'' at the cost of his own life. Touma intervenes, planning to come up with a way that doesn't involve [[TakeAThirdOption any sort of sacrifice]].
* ItsAllMyFault: He blames himself for Luna's disappearance and Touma's memories fading, all stemmed from the guilt that his father seemingly betrayed the order.
* MagicCarpet: He rides one into Touma's bookstore during his introductory scene near the end of Chapter 2, as befitting his Aladdin-themed token Wonder Rider Book.
* NotSoStoic: He's usually levelheaded, but Calibur starts making him a shadow of his levelheaded self - becoming far more obsessive and erratic as a result.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: When Calibur comes around, he becomes oddly quiet, often putting on a fake smile to please the others. Touma clearly sees through that and calls him out for it. The reason behind the behavior is due to believing his father is Calibur and betrayed them all those years ago. When Calibur is revealed to be Daichi Kamijo, the first Saber, his behavior becomes considerably more erratic and obsessive.
* PetTheDog:
** While he's willing to fight his former friends and comrades to seal away their swords, Kento does still care for them. As proof, he frees Sophia from her captors, allowing her to return to the Northern Base and erect the barrier to defend them from Isaac, Reika and Ryoga.
** When Isaac defeats him and Touma, Kento doesn't seal the Kaenken Rekka despite having a clear shot to do so.
* PutOnABus: He dissipates into black clouds after being consumed by darkness at the end of Chapter 13. At the time the main cast assumed he perished, though in reality Kento was sealed within ''Kurayami''. [[TheBusCameBack He returns in Chapter 25 as its new wielder after he somehow escapes his imprisonment within the sword]].
* RedemptionRejection: Overlapping with CannotSpitItOut above, Kento not only keeps information from his friends, he [[SelectiveObliviousness actively ignores peoples' attempts to get through to him]] - particularly Touma. It comes to a head in Chapter 34 when his stubbornness plays a part in destroying Yuri's physical form. It isn't until a spectre of his father reveals itself do the pep-talks finally begin to sink in and Kento puts his faith in Touma once more.
* RevengeBeforeReason: As soon as Calibur reveals himself to be Daichi Kamijo, the original Saber, he starts to lose sight of the mission at hand, becoming obsessed of getting revenge for his father. This, unfortunately, culminates in him nearly dying by Kamijo's hand as a result.
* SecretKeeper: Kento has a really bad habit of this.
** He previously hid the fact that Calibur was his father Hayato, and that Touma's "dreams" of him and Luna when they were children were real.
** It's gotten much worse now that he's the new Calibur, as his refusal to explain to his friends why or how the Seikens cause the BadFuture [[WeAREStrugglingTogether pits him against his friends]] [[InsaneTrollLogic for reasons only he knows]]. Not even [[StatingTheSimpleSolution Touma directly calling him out on this]] is enough to get him to talk.
* SealedEvilInACan: He intends to be the can in this case, as Yuri learns in Chapter 36 that Kento intends on using ''Kurayami'' to seal himself and Isaac away so Touma won't have to disappear.
* {{Seers}}: ''Kurayami'' allows Kento to see various timelines and futures. Unfortunately, what it showed him were {{Bad Future}}s he is dead set on preventing.
* SignificantWardrobeShift: When he returned as the new Calibur, his appearance consisted of a beige coat and messy hair to signify his turn to darkness. After rejoining the Northern Base he switches back to his original outfit and hairstyle, this time with the turtleneck of his second outfit.
* SpannerInTheWorks: Being sealed within ''Kurayami'' leaves him below the radar for a good long while, leaving Sword of Logos even more unprepared to deal with him when it's revealed that he can seal all their swords now. While they prioritize dealing with the other rogue Riders, he's able to rescue Sophia and take away the one bargaining chip they still had.
* StealthHiBye: His first appearance as Kamen Rider Calibur has him protect Mei from a berserk Touma with Yuri's aid, and leaves just as quickly as he arrives.
* StepfordSmiler: Comes across as the most normal and well-adjusted among the Guild's swordsmen, but actually hides heaps of suffering underneath. Anything regarding Calibur draws it out to the surface and he actually has to strain himself to hide it without raising much suspicion.
* SweetTooth: Not to the level of Rintaro but Kento is fond of eating chocolate éclairs, which is his TrademarkFavoriteFood.
* TheStoic: Downplayed. He's amiable and kind, but he doesn't show his emotions as outwardly as the others and can even appear somber when around the [[LargeHam hammy]] likes of Ogami or Mei. Dialed UpToEleven since his return as the third Calibur, coupled with DullEyesOfUnhappiness after seeing every possible future ''Kurayami'' showed him reveal the heroes fail to save the world and die.
* TakeUpMySword: After Kento's alleged passing, Touma takes up his sword ''Ikazuchi''.
* TallDarkAndHandsome: He is very tall, (with his actor coming in at 188 cm/6'2), dark-haired, and very handsome indeed. Mei's first reaction to him is to comment about how handsome he is.
* TragicKeepsake: According to [[WordOfGod his actor]], Kento views ''Kurayami'' this way, as it used to belong to his father. This is likely the reason why he chose ''Kurayami'' over his former Seiken ''Ikazuchi''.
* TraumaCongaLine: Poor Kento has it rough throughout the entire series. First he learns that his father was killed by Daichi, and that he also betrayed the Sword of Logos, and then gets trapped inside ''Kurayami'', where he is assaulted with images of the BadFuture that implied the Seiken caused it, causing him to go on a crusade to seal all the Seiken and Issac to prevent it from happening until his not-actually-dead father talks him out of it. ''Trio of Deep Sin'' doesn't make his situation any better: [[spoiler:His fiancée, Yuina Tachibana is hell-bent on assassinating him due to her first fiancée dying in the conflicts
of the Sword of Logos, resulting in her becoming the next Falchion, and even when Kento manages to defeat her, ''Kyomu'' punctures her due to her failure to fulfil her deal.]]
* WasItAllALie: Says this to [[spoiler:Yuina upon learning that she intended to assassinate him]].
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Kento is dead set on sealing away all the Sacred Swords. His reasons for doing so is because ''Kurayami'' showed him several {{Bad Future}}s where, in spite of the heroes' efforts, the world is destroyed, with the Sacred Swords themselves playing a large part in it.
* WhenHeSmiles: After a heart-to-heart with his dad (who's now a bird) and rejoining his friends, he's grinning more often and boy, is it heartwarming. Best shown when his friends go out in costumes to reenact the story of ''Literature/{{Momotaro}}'' for him...and
he happily joins in as the pheasant with a huge smile on his face... and then he cheekily adds chocolate éclairs to the tale.
* YouAreNotAlone: Discussed in Chapters 33 and 34. Kento has friends that care for him but he [[HisOwnWorstEnemy actively refuses to allow himself a support network]], thinking [[IWorkAlone he should solve all of his problems himself]]. He only opposes his friends as Calibur because [[SelfFulfillingProphecy he won't allow himself to avert the Bad Future any other way]], [[StatingTheSimpleSolution something Touma and Yuri both call him out for]].

* CallingYourAttacks: Is so far the only Rider to say his finishers' names in addition to whatever the Sworddriver says.
* CoolSword:
** Wields ''Raimeiken'' (Thunderclap) ''Ikazuchi'', the Seiken of raging thunder. It also uses the same blade as Saber's, but with an electric bolt design for the handguard. In ''Trio of Deep Sin'', it evolves into the ''Gekkou'' (Moonlight) ''Raimeiken Ikazuchi''.
** During his tenure as Calibur, he wields ''Ankokuken Kurayami''.
* DarkIsNotEvil: [[Literature/OneThousandAndOneNights Arabiana]] [[SuperMode Night]] Form turns the gray portions of his suit to pitch-black, but this swordsman is still heroic through and through.
* EvolvingWeapon: During the events of ''Trio of Deep Sin'', Kento's resonation with ''Raimeiken Ikazuchi'' causes to evolve into ''Gekkou Raimeiken Ikazuchi'', marking the only time a resonation of a Seiken has it evolve to a newer form, and the second transformation item to evolve after the [[Series/KamenRiderZiO Ohma Zi-O Driver]].
* FashionableAsymmetry: Espada's suit is the reverse of Saber's suit as his right and middle sections are
left blank, while the organization left side has a gold genie lamp on it.
* FighterMageThief: The Fighter

Saber's Mage and Blades's Thief. Espada's fighting style emphasizes a lot more on physical power and brute force, especially when using his character tropes, see Wonder Combo form. It becomes more prevalent during his battle with Calibur after [[spoiler:learning the [[Characters/KamenRiderSaberSwordOfLogos truth about his father from him.]]
* FinishingMove: Espada can do a number of finishers, with his driver or his sword.
** Seiken Swordriver:
*** Alangina Diablo: His rider kick that’s enhanced by lightning energy.
*** Oro Bombadero: Espada covers his foot in lightning energy before doing a flying side kick.
*** Alangina Wonder: has several variations.
*** Espada does a lightning-enhanced slash.
*** Espada summons a magic carpet to ride on.
*** Espada summons an apparition of a djinn.
** Raimeiken Ikazuchi:
*** Trueno Destroda: Has two variations.
*** Espada runs at the enemy before delivering a series of slashes, then a lightning bolt strikes the enemy, finishing them.
*** Multiple lines of lightning appear between enemies in the air. Espada then appears and moves along the lines of lightning at high speeds, slashing each enemy. Back on the ground, Espada delivers a series of lighting slashes to more enemies.
*** Trueno Mil Lanza: Espada summons a djinn covered in quills, then jumps at the enemy and pierce them with his sword, then the djinn shoots the quills, and Espada does a finishing downward slash.
*** Trueno del Sol: has three variations.
*** Espada charges the Raimeiken Ikazuchi with lightning energy and delivers a thunder-enhanced slash to the enemy.
*** Espada charges the Raimeiken Ikazuchi with yellow lightning and runs at the enemy at high speeds before delivering a slash attack.
*** Espada runs at the enemy at high speeds as he delivers a single lightning-charged slashing attack. Shortly afterwards, he delivers a second slash that launches a multitude of hedgehog quills in the target's direction.
** Gekkou Raimeiken Ikazuchi:
*** Arabiana Night: Espada levitates up the air while a projection of the moon appears, right before he dives against his opponent to slash them as a bolt of lightning.
** Shutoku Issen: Espada can scan a book on his to do an attack.
*** Needle Hedgehog: Yellow energy covers the sword in energy quills before Espada delivers a close-range slash at the enemy.
*** Tri-Cerberus: Espada slashes at the enemy, summoning a lightning energy projection of Cerberus.
* FlashStep: His Arabiana Night finisher sees him move so fast that all that can be seen is a bolt of lightning following his movement after the fact.
* GratuitousSpanish: At least two of his finishers (much like his Rider name), Trueno Destroda and Trueno Mil Lanza, are taken from the Spanish language.
* OurGeniesAreDifferent: His primary form uses the Wonder Ride Book ''[[Literature/{{Aladdin}} Lamp Do Alangina]]''.
* {{Lunacy}}: His secondary element aside from thunder is moonlight, powered by the
Sword of Logos]] section. Moonlit Thunder ''Gekkou Ikazuchi''.
* NinjaPirateZombieRobot: Espada is a Japanese Knight with the element of lightning whose powers are derived from a Middle-Eastern fairy tale and his attacks are all in Spanish.
* SetBonus: The final Sworddriver Rider to receive his, Espada's ''Wonder Combo'' is named '''Golden Alangina'''. Besides the raw electrical force all three books provide, he can use Tri-Cerberus's raw strength, Needle Hedgehog's spines and Lamp's mystical abilities in this form.
* ShockAndAwe: His signature element is thunder, powered by the Sword of Thunder ''Ikazuchi''.
* SuperMode: [[Literature/OneThousandAndOneNights Arabiana Night]] serves as the Final Form for Espada.

* AntiMagic: The ''Kurayami'' is revealed to have the ability to seal the powers of other Seiken away, disabling them entirely. Kento plans to make liberal use of this to disarm his friends and prevent the BadFuture.
* CombatClairvoyance: To an extent. Thanks to ''Kurayami'', Calibur can witness events that transpire in the future, which he uses to great effect during the MeleeATrois between him, Slash and Sabela. As it turns out, this is onlt the tip of the iceburg as ''Kurayami'' shows multiple futures to its user.
* DarkIsNotEvil: In contrast to Kamijo, Kento as Kamen Rider Calibur is more of an AntiVillain whose goals put him in direct conflict with his friends, something he's none too happy about.
* FinishingMove:
** Shutoku Issen: Calibur uses ''Ankokuken Kurayami'' to absorb and negate incoming energy attacks from an opponent, and transfer back to it.
** Jaou Hissatsu Geki: Has two variations.
*** Calibur summons a big, purple energy dragon that bites down on the enemy, dragging and crash them into a nearby surface, followed by the dragon transforming into an energy ball and securing the target in place. Calibur then delivers a 360-degree spinning slash to finish off the remaining enemies in sight.
*** Calibur stabs another Seiken's emblem with Ankokuken Kurayami, causing red chains to appear wrapped around the weapon, with the end of the finisher resulting in the Seiken's power being sealed.
** Calibur rushes towards an enemy and delivers a horizontal slash to them.
** Calibur delivers an upward purple energy slash at close range before charging for a short period and swinging the ''Ankokuken Kurayami'' downward, launching a larger energy slash projectile. Both attacks produce a shockwave of purple energy upon striking the enemy.
* GenerationXerox: The first Kamen Rider Calibur was Hayato Fukamiya. The third iteration of the Kamen Rider is his son.
* ThinkingUpPortals: Calibur can appear through dark portals via unknown means, possibly thanks to ''Kurayami''.
* YourSoulIsMine: This incarnation of Calibur demonstrates the true power of the ''Kurayami,'' almost managing to seal away Kamen Rider Solomon, ''[[ClapYourHandsIfYouBelieve a Rider powered by sheer delusional belief]],'' [[GodzillaThreshold single-handedly]]. Intervention from Kamen Rider Saber is the only thing that prevents him from defeating Solomon outright with a HeroicSacrifice.

* BreakTheCutie: Getting [[spoiler:turned into the Neko Megid]] was not a pleasant experience for her. Luckily, she goes back to normal soon after it's resolved.
While Is was a [=HumaGear=] with a lack of free will (though that slowly decreased as the show went on), Mei is just an ordinary civilian and editor. * HappyDance: She does a victory dance in #40 after the Riders beat Solomon.
* JumpedAtTheCall: She is ''very'' enthusiastic to follow the swordsmen and be helpful in any way she can.
* LargeHam: Her reactions can get very hammy really fast. Her facial expressions give [[Series/KamenRiderDouble Shotaro and Akiko]] a run for their money.
* MeaningfulName: Her surname contains the character 頁 (''pēji''/"page"), appropriate for an editor of books.
* MessyHair: After getting blasted by the Ousama Megid in Chapter 20, her hair becomes incredibly messy as if she came right out of a war-zone.
* MissionControl: Is slowly building herself up to be this. She initially appeals her usefulness for

** Throughout the second arc, Mei gradually becomes a bit more serious and quiet as the events become more intense. Ogami even pointed out at one point of how awfully silent Mei was with the discussion.
* PluckyComicRelief: Her exaggerated reactions to things are a source of much of the comedy in the series.
* PluckyGirl: Is surprisingly eager to dive headfirst and help with any activities or issues the

* ThePollyanna: No matter what she goes through, you can always expect Mei to be her cheery self.
* RescueRomance: She shows signs of a crush towards Rintaro after he saved her from a Megid. [[spoiler:After Reika labels Touma as a traitor, her crush gets significantly downplayed as a result.]]
* ShesGotLegs: Wears a lot of outfits that leave her legs exposed.
* SkewedPriorities:
** When she and Touma get trapped in Wonder World, she instantly starts snapping photos of the scenery instead of worrying about their situation. Unfortunately, the photos don't show up on her phone at all.
** She takes every opportunity to usher everyone out of the bookstore whenever Touma gets inspiration to write his next novel, in order to leave him alone to get his next manuscript out as fast as possible for her job. She even drags out an unwilling Sora who insisted on staying while waiting for his father, [[UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom which ended up getting the poor kid accidentally transported to Wonder World]].
* SlapstickKnowsNoGender: She may be a girl, but she's the one on the receiving end of the most of the slapstick in the series.

* AttentionDeficitOohShiny: When it comes to observing unknown things, he has the attention span of a caffeinated fruit fly. Considering he is 1000 years out of the loop, most modern everyday objects are unknown to him. He can't even hold down a conversation around the model landscape in
Touma's group.\\

* BigDamnHeroes: He appears before the Sword of Logos to protect Touma, and subsequently hands them [[CurbStompBattle a one-sided asskicking]].
* {{Catchphrase}}: "Amazing, isn't it?"[[note]]''Saikou da na.''[[/note]]
* CloudCuckoolander:
To put it frankly, Yuri is very ''odd'', even with the multitude of other personalities within the show.
Yuri looks fairly intimidating at first glance, but once one gets to know him - it's pretty easy to
see that he's actually a major CloudCuckoolander.
* HatesBeingTouched: Mainly towards Tetsuo.
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:Uses
his healing abilities to heal the wounded swordsmen at the cost of himself.
* {{Irony}}: He initially mocks a comic book titled ''[=SwordXMan=]'', which features a hero who [[{{Foreshadowing}} looks eerily similar to his Rider form]], for having a supposedly naïve main
character tropes, he deemed unfit to uphold justice. After witnessing said naivety in action with Touma and its quirks, he takes a severe interest in the comic. It later on even becomes a basis for one of his forms.
* LackOfEmpathy: It's not deliberately malicious on his side; he is just ''that'' oblivious. The beginning of Chapter 17 shows that he is genuinely happy to
see Touma and just doesn't seem to notice or understand why the [[Characters/KamenRiderSaberSwordOfLogos other Rider is freaking out despite standing in the middle of the bookstore he himself broke in and absolutely trashed.
Rather interestingly, this also extends to his Wonder Ride Book, which in its basis, ''[[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Honest_Woodcutter The Honest Woodcutter]]'', a tale of a honest person losing a plain but treasured item, and despite being offered a golden, and then a silver version he merely asks for the return of the original, which greatly impresses the being that they're interacting with.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: He delivers one to [[spoiler:Tetsuo in Chapter 18. It has surprising results in Chapter 19, as Yuri's words has Tetsuo decide to get the truth behind Touma's "defection" by duelling him]].
* UnseenNoMore: Although Touma met him in Avalon, his face and existence was otherwise unknown to the audience and the
Sword of Logos]] section.Logos. In Chapter 16, he reveals himself--both to the Sword of Logos and to the viewers properly.
* WasOnceAMan: [[spoiler:Chapter 18 reveals that Yuri was once a normal swordsman and was merely the wielder of the ''Kougouken Saikou'', but at some point, he fused his essence with the sword in order to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands.]]
* WeUsedToBeFriends: As he reveals in Chapter 34, [[spoiler:he and Bahato, along with a third unnamed swordsman, were all close friends up until Bahato killed their friend in revenge for the latter murdering his family and went rogue, forcing Yuri to seal Bahato away]]. When they meet in the present, whatever bond they had then is gone.
* WhatTheHellHero: He holds the ideas and image of what a swordsman should be very highly. As such, he makes his displeasure towards the Sword of Logos known when they [[spoiler:attack Touma and believe Reika's claims when they should be focusing on defending and saving the lives of people they're sworn to protect]].

* AssistCharacter: [[JustifiedTrope Entirely literal]] in this case, Saikou can create a being made of darkness called Shadow to wield it in battle, and otherwise act as its body. It's even called a ''kagemusha'' or "shadow double" in its information. However Saikou can act as this himself...or itself. Either way, any swordsman can wield Saikou as well, in addition to their normal blade.
* CoolSword: The Robust Sword of Light ''Saikou'' is the primary weapon for both Kamen Rider Saikou and Shadow.
* DualityMotif: Present in nearly everything about Saikou. His Wonder Ride Book is ''Kin no Buki, Gin no Buki'' or Gold Weapon, Silver Weapon. He's the Kamen Rider of Light, yet has a being of Darkness to aid him in battle. He transforms to fight with the others, yet can't do much on his own.
* EmpathicWeapon: Kamen Rider Saikou is the full Robust Sword of Light ''Saikou'' itself, with his consciousness stored into the sword and is able to move around to an extent by itself.
* EquippableAlly: [[LiteralMetaphor Yes. Yes he is.]] [[spoiler:He somehow manages to TOP himself upon unlocking X Swordman, turning into armor for Shadow. Or an arm mounted double sword. Or bladed leg armor.]]
* FinishingMove: When Saikou presses the button on the right side, he do a number of attacks.
** Hikari Are: Has four variations.
*** Saikou charges Kougouken Saikou with ivory energy, before he spins and delivers a series of powerful high speed slashes to the targets, leaves a golden particle upon impact.
*** Saikou fired a golden and ivory colored beam from his eyes, to destroy mutiple enemies.
*** Saikou cast a blinding light that can dispel negative effects on enemies.
*** Saikou charges Kougouken Saikou with blinding light and delivers two powerful high speed slashes to the targets, separate a human from the Megid.
* {{Foil}}: To Calibur. Whereas Calibur was a Kamen Rider whose motif and elemental power was darkness, Saikou's is associated with both light ''and'' darkness, although his control is limited compared to Calibur's. [[spoiler:Which makes sense, since ''Saikou'', like ''Kurayami'', was one of the first Sacred Swords ever made.]]
* HealingHands: Can heal minor to moderate injuries with light from his hands. More severe injuries require additional intervention however, as seen with Ogami in Chapter 33.
* HealingShiv: [[spoiler:As it turns out, ''Saikou'' can separate Megid spawned from humans from their hosts by fighting them as any other Megid. Touma only learns this ''after'' having spent an entire episode devising a BatmanGambit to separate Yuri from the Yeti Megid.]]
* LightEmUp: ''Saikou'' wields bright light as its Element. It can even control darkness to an extent, given that the two are sibling elements and one can't exist without the other. Presumably, this only extends to darkness its own light creates, and not anything that ''Kurayami'' conjures.
* MeaningfulName:
** His Rider name translates to "Greatest Light",[[note]]The ''kō'' in his name is an [[AlternateCharacterReading alternate reading]] of the character 光 ("light").[[/note]] and is also a [[PunnyName pun]] on the phrase 最高/''Saikō'' ("the greatest").
** The "sai" in his name is also a reference to [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sai_(weapon) the eponymous weapon]].
* NonStandardCharacterDesign: We've had Riders with primarily non-human forms before, such as Lazer from Ex-Aid, but Saikou's form '''is the sword itself.''' Yuri's essence goes into it when he transforms, and outside of calling Shadow to act for him, Saikou has no humanoid form that we're aware of.
* TheOmnipotent: Saikou, and by extension Yuri himself, is almost this, given how he {{hand wave}}s most issues as resolvable through his light. He's able to teleport, undo almost any Mamono's effects, acts as a HealingShiv for humans-turned-Mamono, summon an AssistCharacter for himself, perform LaserGuidedAmnesia, [[PostModernMagik adapt an ancient power to use a modern concept]], and even [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking produce instant disguises to blend into the public]].
* ThePaladin: While everyone in ''Saber'' is a MagicKnight, Yuri comes closest to being a Paladin, given his mastery of light powers, combat prowess, and healing abilities.

[[caption-width-right:250:''Who is this? Saikou Nishou! Hikari kara umareshi kage! Shadow!''[[note]]Who is this? Saikou: Chapter 2! A shade born from the light! Shadow![[/note]]]]
* DarkIsNotEvil: Saikou Shadow is made entirely out of darkness created by Saikou, and Yuri is on Touma's side.
* FusionDance: Of a type. Upon activating Episode 1. Saikou transforms into full body armor that Shadow dons.
* LivingShadow: Well, [[CaptainObvious duh]]. However Shadow truly is one, as it is born from the light of Saikou and lifts up from the ground, as if it was the shadow for a humanoid form for Saikou. It can also alter its body being able to stretch, and make itself incorporeal so that attacks and even objects can pass through it.
* NoSell: As Saikou Shadow is a LivingShadow, almost every attack its way will just phase through it. The only way to actually stop it is by attacking Saikou. Saikou Shadow loses its invulnerability when Saikou uses X Swordman.
* YouWillNotEvadeMe: As Chapter 18 demonstrates, you can throw everything you have at Shadow and [[NoSell absolutely none of it]] will slow, stop, or inconvenience it in the ''slightest''.

[[caption-width-right:250:''Saikou Hakkou! Get all colors! X Swordman! Episode 1: Full Color de Sanjou!''[[note]]Arriving in Full Colors![[/note]] ''BA-BA-BA-BANG!!'']]
* AnimatedArmor: Technically how X Swordman works across all three of it's forms. Saikou becomes armor that Shadow equips. However it's most applicable in his primary form after activating Episode 1. This fully covers Shadow in armor and allows Saikou to control him, gaining a physical body in the process. This form is named '''Saikou Colorful'''.
* ArmedLegs: Right leg to be precise. This is achieved through the Episode 3, turning Saikou into '''Saikou Wonderful'''.
* BladeBelowTheShoulder: Left arm specifically, seemingly the removable type. Episode 2 turns Saikou into '''Saikou Powerful''', also known as the '''Powerful X Sword'''.
* FinishingMove: When Saikou closes the book and opens it, he can do attacks based on what episode he is in.
** X Sword Break:
*** ''X Sword Man'': has two variations.
*** Saikou flies past the enemy, doing a slash as goes by, before landing a short distance away and delivering another slash back at the enemy.
*** Saikou charges the Kougouken Saikou with yellow energy and delivers a golden energy slash.
*** ''X Sword Man Wonderful'': Saikou leaps forward into the target and performs a roundhouse Rider Kick with the right foot covered in rainbow-colored energy.
** Hikari Are:
*** ''X Sword Man Powerful'': Has two variations.
*** Saikou X Sword Man Powerful runs up to the enemy and performs a double slash with both swords.
* PostModernMagik: ''Saikou'' is an ancient sword with powers that existed at least a millenia ago, but Yuri has updated it to use the modern-day ShowWithinTheShow ComicBook ''[=SwordXMan=]'' as a basis for this NextTierPowerUp.
