* LighterAndSofter:In the anime, Mukotsu is a sadistic poisoner who likes to kill victims, but he also wants a woman to be wedded in a bizarre manner, but still tries to kill them if they refuse and is very self conscious on his {{Gonk}} looks. In the manga, he is a straight up rapist who kills women because he is a HeManWomanHater, but is not above AttemptedRape and his {{Gonk}} looks are his BerserkButton.

* AudienceSurrogate: Oh ''heck'' yes. He/she's the "player character". Not to mention that given that Kururugi can "hook up" with one of the members of the group, he/she's also a "fanboy/fangirl surrogate". [[spoiler: Although that last part's kind of spoiled during the ending when Kururugi is sent back to the modern era...unless it's Kagome's ending, since of course Kagome lives in the modern era as well, so they can meet up pretty quickly.]]

to:

* AudienceSurrogate: Oh ''heck'' yes.yes, and a rather awesome example, at that. He/she quickly becomes very useful thanks to the Shikigami powers and is integral in solving some of the major problems that come up (for example, one of his/her powers is essential to taking away enemy barriers so attacks will actually damage them).

Added DiffLines:

* SchrodingersPlayerCharacter: Some plot details change slightly depending on whether you pick Michiru, the boy, or Kaname, the girl. For example, the senior citizen "Kakuju" whom you meet early in the game is an old ''woman'' if you pick Michiru, and an old ''man'' if you pick Kaname, so Kakuju is always the ''opposite'' sex of whomever you pick as the player character. Likewise, [[spoiler: if you pick Michiru, the antagonist "Utsugi" turns out to be a man, and it's a fake person who looks like your identical ancestor. Utsugi is also your identical ancestor (not really) if you pick Kaname, but Utsugi is female instead. So unlike Kakuju, Utsugi is always the ''same'' sex as whomever you pick as the player character. This is a major plot point; you find out near the end of the game that Kakuju and the real Utsugi were ''lovers'', but Utsugi died and Kakuju created fake versions instead. And since the real Utsugi is your identical ancestor, this is why both Kakuju and Utsugi are each a different sex depending on whom you pick.]]

* [[spoiler: ButNowIMustGo: How his/her story arc ends.]]

Added DiffLines:

* GuideDangIt: It's possible for Kaname (and not Michiru, since he isn't gay) to end up with ''Sesshomaru'' of all people...but that requires a convoluted effort to not only not build up much affection with the other group members but also to do all the Sesshomaru events in the right order when you get them so you don't miss any. ''And'' at one point you have to choose to worry about Rin instead of your friends, but the impact of the choice isn't apparent right away. You'll only know you're on the right track if the "profile picture" on your save file suddenly has Sesshomaru's picture on it instead of one of the group members' pictures.
* LevelUpAtIntimacy5: Michiru/Kaname Kururugi can learn more "team-up" techniques depending on which member of the group Kururugi chooses to spend his/her days off with. (This is also indirectly how the others learn different "team-up" techniques, since if Kururugi pairs up with one of the group, the rest of the group must then pair up with different people for ''their'' days off).

* CallingYourAttacks: Since Kururugi must rely on the powers of Shikigami in order to use any of his/her moves, every attack gets its own phrase.
* CharacterDevelopment: When Kururugi is first sent to the Feudal era, he/she's a fish out of water and is upset that there are no supermarkets around and his/her cell phone doesn't work. Then he/she is granted "Shikigami" powers, and eventually develops into a brave warrior in his/her own right. Also, in another example albeit a more minor case, Kururugi eventually learns (through his/her optional "romance" arc should the player choose to become especially close to a specific member of the group) to be more true to his/her feelings.

*** Point in case? One time he was riding on Kagome's shoulder when a battle broke out. Seconds later, she noticed he was missing, and Shippo seeing Myoga on Miroku's shoulder, warned Kagome to hurry over to Miroku as Myoga is always where it's safest. Miroku was standing about 15 feet away from Kagome at the time. Myoga was not amused.
