*AnimalsNotToScale: Trope. Blue whales are the largest living animals in the world, and this particular specimen... is about as large as an adult guppy, and only slightly larger than a tadpole.
*CrutchCharacter: He's useful for the first few alien attacks in a level, as he can protect your guppies who are still growing from being killed. As you progress, however, this becomes worthless as your economy relies on large guppies and/or non-Guppy fish. Adding to that, he has to contend with Gumbo only a few levels later.

*ObviousRulePatch: In Challenge Mode, Wadsworth falls asleep if the only living fish in your tank are small and medium guppies, preventing the player from creating a scenario where a game over is impossible.

*ShoutOut: His story states that he beat a hare in a race, paying homage to the classic story of Literature/TheTortoiseAndTheHare.

*BlessedWithSuck: Blip's ability to open the shop becomes detrimental when playing Challenge Mode, as it causes the prices to start increasing from the start.

* TheScrappy: InUniverse, he's considered the most useless pet available. Not that he cares at all, however; all he wants is for fish to stay off the damn floor of the tank.

*JokeCharacter: He gives off this impression, what with his absurd design and his snot being the most worthless money type of them all. However, his Sneeze of Power can prove useful when it comes into play.

* WarmUpBoss: He's the first and easiest alien to take care of, having very low health and only being able to eat one fish at a time.

The Carnivore is the second fish in the game. It costs 1000 dollars, and eats baby guppies. It also produces gems worth 200 dollars, but does not have growth levels.
* RealMenEatMeat: They're bigger than guppies, and they're pretty fierce looking.

Star Guppies are adult guppies that consumed a star potion. They produce stars that give 40 dollars, and like adult guppies,

Starcatchers are lavender bucket-like fish that cost 750 dollars. They swallow stars produced by star guppies, and turn them into gems.
* CatSmile: They always have this, unless they are super hungry.
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: Meryl mentions this when hovering over one in the virtual tank shop.

Guppycrunchers are ground-bound fish that cost 750 dollars. They jump up and eat guppies, and they produce beetles worth 150 dollars.
* OneGenderRace: Considering they create living creatures, they're likely all female. Either that, or they turn the guppies they eat into beetles.

Beetlemunchers are tadpole/frog/whatever things that cost 2000 dollars. They eat beetles the guppycruncher makes. They produce pearls worth 500 dollars.

Breeders are Prego-like fish that cost 200 dollars. When they grow, they can create guppies for free, and like guppies, they can grow into teens and adults.
* ExplosiveBreeder: They create guppies at a really fast rate. Especially noticable when you have a lot of breeders.
* OneGenderRace: Considering they give birth, they are almost certainly AlwaysFemale. Still possible for it to be otherwise, though.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: They give birth, they have a large belly, and they have a guppy color scheme. Yep, it's the fish version of Prego.

Ultravores are incredibly large, grey fish that cost 10,000 dollars. They eat carnivores, and produce chests worth 2000 dollars. They also have a unique sound effect when being dropped into water.
* RealMenEatMeat: An even bigger example than Carnivores. They are the largest fish, at twice the size of a Carnivore.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Averted, as they are on your side. Played straight if you're a carnivore, though.

Stinky is the first pet you gain. He's a bottom dwelling snail that collects coins, but hides in his shell during alien invasions.
----
* AllMenArePerverts: He collects money because it impresses ladies.
* CrutchCharacter: Among other coin collecting pets, he's pretty easy to use and has no real downsides other than not being able to collect anything during alien attacks. Should
* LovableCoward: He hides in his shell during alien invasions.

Niko is the second pet you obtain. He is an oyster who occasionally produces pearls worth 250 dollars.
----
* ClamTrap: Averted. He will open his mouth only when he's about to give you the pearl, and he will not eat any one of your fish.
* CrutchCharacter: One of the earliest character that gives you an alternative way to get a good amount of money, but his rate is rather slow and Vert, Sharpnel, and Brink will soon outclass him.

Itchy is a swordfish that attacks aliens. He has the power of a level one laser.
----
* BerserkButton: He gets an angry face when an alien is in the tank. Considering what they did to him, can you honestly blame him?
* BewareTheNiceOnes: He left gash for dead one time.
* CrutchCharacter: His damage value is pretty alright on earlier levels. Once Tank 3 and Psychosquid comes along, he will be outclassed by your laser gun fast.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: An alien ate his friends, and he's trying to return the favor.
* WeUsedToBeFriends: He used to be besties with Gash, until he left the latter for dead.

Prego is a somewhat human-like guppy that gives birth to guppies every now and then.
----
* BabyFactory: This is pretty much the entire point of the pet.
* ExplosiveBreeder: She gives birth to a guppy in less than a minute. She also never stops.
* OutGivingBirthBackInTwoMinutes: When she's about to give birth, she doesn't show much shock beyond a somewhat surprised expression.

Zorf is a seahorse that produces level 2 food for hungry fish.
----
* CrutchCharacter: He's pretty helpful early on for growing fish, but falls out of use when level 3 food is available.
* Expy: He has one in the form of the Peashooter from VideoGame/PlantsVsZombies, where his mouth design is pretty similar to one.
* NewAgeRetroHippie: Downplayed, but the reason why he doesn't produce level 3 food is that the food pills are rich in fat and has boatloads of preservatives, while the level 2 one is organically made.

Clyde is similar to Stinky in the fact that he collects coins. However, he can move freely around the tank, but is slower than Stinky.
----
* TheDutifulSon: His main reason for working around the tank is because he needs money for his mother's hospital bill.

He is a skeleton fish that drops gold coins just like a large guppy, but does not need to be fed.
----
* CreepyGood / DarkIsNotEvil: His codex entry states that people avoid using him because they fear that, him being a product of occult forces, will turn on them. The codex states that he obviously isn't evil because he would drop rat poison if he was.
* CrutchCharacter: He is good for starting in earlier levels where fish are still young and are either incapable of laying coins or can only provide coins worth $15 at a time, but he soon gets outclassed later on when you have multiple fish dropping coins or diamonds at a time.
* DemBones: He is a skeleton fish.
* PerpetualMotionMonster: His main selling point is that he can provide money without the need to eat.

He is a fiddler crab with one large pincers that has a power level of level 6 laser gun, but stays on the ground and will only attack enemies on the surface level (or the one you pushes into the bottom).
----
* DanceBattler: He used to be a dance instructor with his own studio, but becomes a mercenary after a freak accident in the building.

She is a mermaid who will occasionally sing and increases the drop rate of all money from guppies in the tank for a short time. She is also the game's hostess as she appears in the main menu and the fish emporium
----
* GameplayAndStoryIntegration: The Carnivores and Ultravores sees her as nothing but another corporate-sponsored pop star, which is the reason why they are not affected by the rate-up boost from Meryl's singing.
* IdolSinger: When she sings, she will causes the current guppies on an uproar where they will produce coins (and diamonds) at instanteous rate.

* AlluringAnglerfish: He's unlike other examples since he lures fish away from danger.
