** To Chloe, as they're children from the Pokémon world who aren't Trainers, have issues with their parents and seem to have a love of gaming. While Chloe is ''already'' a hero by the time the story starts, Yuri has only been around for less than a week and his first attempt at being a hero ended badly. Both of them are a JerkWithAHeartOfGold who are nicer once you get to know them, but while Yuri learns his lesson and is willing to trust people, Chloe has a bad habit of backtracking on her development and is ''very'' selective over who she trusts. They also have opposite reactions to ''Silent Hill'': Chloe wants to play the games (specifically good-quality copies of ''2'' and ''3'') and has extensive knowledge of them while Yuri ''begged'' his parents to ban him from playing any of them after seeing a playthrough of ''2'' and thus doesn't have as much knowledge on the subject (thus he is unaware of Silent Hill Trio coming from later games). Both of them are known to love video games but Chloe loves horror while Yuri is into games like ''Ragnarok Online'' (given his reaction to Porings) and ''Ninjala''. On the Train, he doesn't seem to be truly invested in getting into Pokémon, while Chloe takes the steps forward with Hewie.

* MouthyKid: As part of his EstablishingCharacterMoment, he is known to be snarky and not afraid to speak his mind.

* RedOniBlueOni: Ends up usually being the Blue Oni in most situations, particularly when partnered with the Red Onis Tony or Chloe.

* HypnoPendulum: Is capalbe of using one such item in order to cast his hypnosis, though he'd really rather not use it at all because he finds it too much of a cliché.

** To Goh: Both of them are obsessed with something to the point they ignore everyone in their lives (Gunpla and anime for Yuri and Mew for Goh). Yuri has an older sister, Goh is an only child. Yuri pays little to no attention to his parents while Goh at least understands his parents work very hard. Yuri goes to school all the time while Goh only goes to take tests. Yuri has no friends, Goh has one in Ash and "another" one in Chloe. [[spoiler:And while both got their own tastes of "nightmare therapy", Yuri makes it out because he had friends to support him whereas Blossomverse Goh was all alone and ended up shattered from it.]]

* HypocriticalHumor: He'll try to give people nicknames if he can help it, but he won't be happy if somebody ''else'' tries to do the same to him (unless said person is his father).

* DramaPreservingHandicap: A Garchomp in battle ''would'' be pretty awesome and make things easier for Sycamore...unfortunately, she got food poisoning from [[LethalChef Shion's]] soup and has to sit out the first raid in the Monster City Car.

* GenderFlip: Has the name of St. Joan but is a male Persona which Yuri lampshades.

* HeroOfAnotherStory: He's had numerous adventures interacting with the Goetias and he also knew Kaito -- back when he was called Kage -- long enough to know that Kaito accidentally got a covenant with Agares.

** He seems to know about the Ars Goetia demons because he freaks out when he sees Chloe's scabbard has Marchosias's seal. This is probably because the demons exist on the Train as denizens. The Cyan Desert Car later reveals that he's actually on good terms with the Goetias, he was a former apprentice to Paimon and he's the current apprentice to Auric, a Goetia going under a fake name, and his adoptive parents were Malpas and Raum.

* AFormYouAreComfortableWith: As a shadow, he can transform himself into whatever his partner desires. However, as ''Rey Mysterio vs the Cosmos'' reveals, that's usually not the case when he took on Kaito's image.
