The Orso siblings are children of the wealthy Orso Mercentile Company. Whilst they are commoners, their family makes more money than most noble houses do. Lene is Claire's beloved maid and trusted confidant, working for the François family to gain their favour. Meanwhile, Lambert is a trusted member of the Student Council.

* ParentalSubstitute: Whilst Claire views Lene as an older sister, it's clear that Lene fills a motherly role in Claire's life, providing her with advice and scolding her for not eating her vegetables.

* {{Hypocrite}}: He rebukes Clair for [[spoiler: showing sympathy with Lene, telling her that a noble can gain nothing from being sentimental. This is coming from a guy trying to overthrow the government to avenge his wife.]]

* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Rei's impact on Claire's life causes the young noblewoman to slowly accept the unfairness of their current society, making her a more well-rounded and selfless person. This eventually causes [[spoiler:Claire to refuse Rei's rescue from the commoner revolutionaries, instead believing that it'd be better for the kingdom that she be executed as a symbol of the end of the corrupt nobility.]]

* BitchInSheepsClothing: She looks really friendly and sweet, but she can actually be ruthlessly pragmatic and willing to eliminate or abandon she doesn't consider necessary. Claire of all people often has to step up to influence her in a better direction. She's hardly a monster, however, and does show genuine concern for characters like Yuu and Lily.

* IdenticalStranger: In the sequel, it's revealed that [[spoiler:the Pope looks identical to Rei, leading to Rei act as a body double for her. As it turns out, people who have Rei/the Pope's faces are rarely born and are thought to have been blessed by the Spirit God, most of whom end up getting taken under protection by the Church. Rei notes that if she hadn't been adopted, the same likely would've happened to her.]]

* TheRival: She was ''supposed'' to be this, competing with Rei for the affections of one of the three princes and intended "capture targets." Instead, she's the target of Rei's affections.

She gets really upset when Rei [[spoiler:quits her job as her maid after losing a bet]] and feels like it's a betrayal, even if she won't admit it. Rei, for her part, ''loves'' to tease her about this by saying her "dere" is showing when Claire doesn't even know what that means early on. She admits much later on that she secretly found Rei following her around to be cute.

* AbhorrentAdmirer: Claire makes absolutely no secret of her disdain for Rei and her constant, open affections. This is partly from her deep-seated self-loathing issues, as she's well aware she's not a very pleasant person to be with on most days, their respective social classes and the society they live in, and the fact that homosexuality is not accepted, to say the least. She eventually reverses her stance.

* HappilyMarried: Effectively. Gay marriage isn't legal in Bauer, but they're married in all but name. This relationship continues amicably into the sequel despite some hopeless attempts at flirting by new side characters.

* BrainyBrunette: Aside from Rei's prior knowledge of the world and how the game's major events are supposed to go, she is astoundingly cunning and clever in general, as shown in her numerous complex, long-term, and ultimately successful plans. A lighthearted example is how she [[spoiler:spends several weeks with Relaire convincing the ladies' dorm and kitchen that it's haunted, so she can con Claire into a dinner date.]] Much more seriously, [[spoiler:she has been planning to save Claire from her bad-end ever since convincing Dor François to become her maid,]] an on-going effort several months long and relying on numerous external factors and actors beyond her control.

* DitzyGenius: Rei acts like an idiot, but she's at the top of the school rankings.

* ObfuscatingStupidity: Rei deliberately plays herself up a Claire-obsessed dope with a masochistic streak. While some of it is her actual character, it hides the fact that she's actually a very cunning person who's not afraid to use her extensive knowledge of the setting and potential future events to her advantage, and is good at playing XanatosSpeedChess when events go awry.
* ObliviousToLove: Somewhere around the early mid point of the story, Claire clearly grows attached to Rei, most likely at least partially in a romantic sense. However, Rei herself is oblivious and has toned down the flirting. She still thinks that Claire is into Sein, when by all appearances she gave up on him quite early in the story.

* SplitPersonalityMerge: Much of pre-incarnation Rei's memories and behaviors dominate her current life, but Rei's parents seem to find absolutely nothing different or suspicious about their daughter's change in behavior, and Rei notes she has memories of the original Rei Taylor. [[spoiler:Misha does notice the sudden, dramatic, inexplicable change and her antics, however, and confronts about it.]]

* WorthyOpponent: Rod considers her one, after she almost beat him at chess, but chose to intentionally lose--something he rather despises. This is especially poignant as Rod has been trained in chess since childhood as a foundation for military strategy, and Rei, a commoner, could not have had the same level of experience nor familiarity with the game. He is ''very'' intent on getting a rematch, though Rei refuses: that would progress his romantic arc, and she only has eyes for Claire.

* DeathRay: Claire's iconic spell, "Magical Ray." It is effectively a laser beam that will melt or outright disintegrate anything it hits. It is possible for Claire to control its power, however, as when she non-lethally uses it to [[spoiler:disuade Rei from trying to rescue her from the hands of the Revolutionaries.]]

* JerkassRealization: Durring the summer, Claire ends up visiting Rei's home and experiencing the wealth gap between the nobles and the commoners for herself. The real kicker though, [[spoiler: is when Louis, Rei's UnluckyChildhoodFriend, turns himself into an undead monster and tries to kill her, Rei and Misha because someone paid him to do so and he needed the money to pay for his ill mother's medicine]]. This event makes Claire realize just how bad poverty can be and how different the standard of living between the aristocracy and commoners really is, which inspires her to stop disregarding the commoner's demands for revolution and start learning how to resolve the poverty gap and other issues the kingdom faces.

* ThanatosGambit: [[spoiler:Dor François has been plotting a ''big'' one ever since his wife was murdered and he began to secretly lay the groundwork for a Commoner Revolution. His death - a public execution that will be a symbolic end showing that nobility has no control or place within the new government - is the final part of his plan.]]

The Minister and Finance of the Baueur Kingdom and Claire's father. He is the very picture of the strict, high and mighty, and untouchable noble but it turns out to be an act, as he is secretly supporting the

* GoodAllAlong: You'd think that he would be the picture of being the BigBad, but he has actually been supporting the revolutionaries all this time, to put an end to the scheming and murder of the aristocracy.
* HeelFaceTurn: After his wife was killed in an assasination attempt and he and his daughter barely escaped with their lives, he finally realizes just how much atrocity the nobility system of Bauer causes.
