!!Troll Ancestors

Trolls who lived centuries ago and share a sign with the ones alive now, who are said to act as benevolent guardians if their descendant troll finds out who they are. Trolls with low-ranking blood colors tend to think of this as a fairy tale, but highbloods usually believe in the concept deeply. [[spoiler:Not only is this belief true, but Karkat actually created the 12 troll ancestors at the same time he created himself and the other trolls we already know.]] The only Ancestors to be seen thus far are Marquise Spinneret Mindfang (who Vriska roleplays as), Orphaner Dualscar (ditto Eridan), Neophyte Redglare (ditto Terezi), and the otherwise unnamed Grand Highblood/Subjugglator, [[spoiler:whom Gamzee imitates the office, if not the person, of, when off the sopor slime]].

* AnimeHair: Spinneret. The Grand Highblood takes it [[http://www.mspaintadventures.com/?s=6&p=005414 to the logical extreme]].
* AwesomeMcCoolname: ''Marquise. Spinneret. Mindfang.'' For that matter, ''Orphaner Dualscar''. Even the Grand Highblood gets in on this, if only with a title rather than a name.
** MeaningfulName: As it turns out, though, the names aren't just for show; the names are, in fact, ''perfectly descriptive'' of each individual Ancestor. Mindfang really can tear into lesser minds at will, and Dualscar very likely did leave a mess of orphans in his wake. Yes, this is [[FridgeHorror just about as horrifying]] as it sounds.
* BlingOfWar: Orphaner Dualscar was ''[[http://www.mspaintadventures.com/?s=6&p=005408 decked the hell out]]'' back in the day, straight down to an incredible BadassCape that is easily ten feet long, and it's clear now that Eridan tries to emulate this with [[FashionVictimVillain varying levels of success]].
* ChekhovsGunman: Eridan first brings them up in the conversation where he explains to Jade how he got his gun Ahab's Crosshairs.
* [[DepravedBisexual Depraved... Troll]]: Mindfang manipul8s a captive slave girl into making out with her while carrying on a casual conversation with Orphaner Dualscar, at least partially as blackrom flirting.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Terezi's ancestor Redglare has a very large fans-to-appearances ratio.
* FamousAncestor
** Subverted if the unnamed slave girl ends up being Kanaya's ancestor, as [[WildMassGuessing is wildly suspected]]. And if Eridan and Vriska are to be believed, anyone "lower" on the hemospectrum than Terezi may not even put much stock in, or care about, the "Ancestor" idea.
** The Grand Highblood may or may not also be famous; [[spoiler:Gamzee doesn't seem to care about his existence, and he may serve more as an example of the office rather as just one person]].
* {{Fauxshadow}}: Mindfang's journalog hints at a big fight [[spoiler: Grand Highblood/Gamzee will kill Orphaner/Eridan, and Mindfang/Vriska will fight Redglare/Terezi]]. It doesn't happen. [[spoiler: Mindfang's dead love-slave/Kanaya becomes a vampire and kicks Gamzee off a cliff balls-first, makes Eridan into sashimi, cold-cocks Vriska, and [=KO's=] Terezi and drinks her blood (just a little).]]
* GenerationXerox: True of almost all the introduced Guardians. Enforced in Mindfang's case; the former sent the latter her diary so that she would gain the necessary tools to deal with the harshness of troll youth. The case of The Grand Highblood and [[spoiler:Gamzee]] is a bit different; [[spoiler:Gamzee doesn't really seem to know (or care) about his Ancestor ''per se'', but rather takes up the ''office'' of the Subjugglators once he isn't stoned on sopor slime]].
* GreenEyedMonster: Orphaner Dualscar is apparently either insecure or possessive enough to get jealous of what his kismesis does in ''entirely different quadrants''. Spinneret seems both amused and annoyed by this.
** In fact, he's so jealous that he has the slave assassinated.
* LadyInRed: Redglare.
* LookingForLoveInAllTheWrongPlaces: Mindfang was ''pimping.'' She was also completely nondiscriminatory, soliciting her ship's slaves while it was too dark to tell their blood color. And yes, she was hoping to find a matesprit among the slaves she seduced.
* MindControl: Mindfang can manipul8 people, and she's a lot more subtle about it than Vriska.
* NiceHat: Again, Spinneret. She is a {{pirate}} after all.
* OrcusOnHisThrone: [[http://www.mspaintadventures.com/?s=6&p=005414 The Grand Highblood]] definitely has the visual down, and seems to be content to sit around and wait for chumps to come to him instead of looking for dudes to slaughter. [[spoiler:This is in definite contrast to his descendant, who is perfectly happy to go find people to subjugglate.]]
* SinisterShades: Redglare. It seems Terezi was not the only one with a thing for red.

Characters from a Saturday morning cartoon show Rose and Jade watched when they were younger. Entirely irrelevant to the plot. * DeadAllAlong: Until it was Jade's turn to do battle with her guardian, the readers were lead to believe he was alive. In reality, she's pretending to fight his ''corpse'', which has been [[NightmareFuel stuffed and preserved via taxidermy like his hunting trophies]].

* Transplant: The stuffed Bunny is the authentic toy itself from ConAir.

* EpilepticTrees: About his true identity. Notably, all of them were wrong, as he turned out to be Jade's grandson.

* WildMassGuessing: In universe! Jade wonders about his parents and more importantly his grandfather.
